Josh had accepted Tamzin's request of a change in partner to keep the peace at the ambulance station, for a few upcoming weeks my partner now would be Sam Nicholls and Tamzin had been crewed up with Iain in the meantime while Josh tried to sort the partnering issues out. Sam returned from the burger van parked on the side of the road and handed me my flat white coffee as she climbed in the passenger seat

'There you go Jeff'

'Thanks Sam' I replied, taking a small gulp of my drink. 'Can I ask you something Sam?'

'Sure' she replied, blowing over her hot cup of coffee

'Is it still easy for you to work with Dylan even after many years you guys divorced?'

'Yeah I'd say so Jeff but I don't really speak to him much other than outside of work matters'

'Do you still care for him now tho even after that time apart?'

'Course I do and still love him a little Jeff. We were together for a reason in the first place I mean that's why we call them couples we were happy at one stage in our marriage'

'So when does it become easier Sam? To see your ex-partner around and work with them I don't want to be like this, all anger and sad and emotional when I see Tamzin from what we been through'

'Everyone is different in how long it takes to get over it and accept that the marriage has run its course and be in that good place where you both want to be happy for each other and move on'

'I mean I've asked Tamzin for a divorce but I don't know if I really meant it or not'

'How do you feel about her Jeff when someone brings up her name?'

'I don't know Sam'

'Ok let's test this theory out then, tell me what you think of her when I say her name. You ready' she replied to which I nodded immediately. 'Tamzin'

'I feel….love for her still and anger that we sorta stopped communicating with each other when we lost our son and a lot of regret' I admitted. 'Regret that I spoke a lot in anger to her when our son was fighting for his life and the days after when she left'

'Ok wow I didn't know that about our son. I'm sorry to hear that Jeff'

'It's ok Sam' I sighed heavily

The radio on the intercom starts to chirp to life with the details of our next shout to attend quickly, Sam takes the details while I merge back on the road and hit the blue lights

'We can talk more about this if you like Jeff'

'That would be great thanks Sam'

We arrived to our destination to see a few units have been called but not all crews were needed to a fire at a warehouse in one of the industrial estates. We climbed out of our ambulance to see Iain & Tamzin were already here also as back up units to the shout

'What the full S.P. Iain' I enquired

'A small fire around the back by the bins, only a handful had smoke inhalation from the fumes by we've been stood down by the other crews'

'Oh right'

Tamzin came out of their ambulance with a radio in hand and showed her face around the corner of the door and hiding behind it

'Come on Hot stuff we've got another shout' Tamzin informed, giving him a cheeky wink before nodding hello to me

'Coming Princess' he pouted while winking back at her

My blood boiled fire angry red from their pet nicknames they gave to each other and the looks they gave one another just then, it got me so angry that she looked at Iain like that and not me anymore like we weren't a thing before, I found it hard to just shake it off and move on from that stare which I knew I didn't have the right to that jealous feeling anymore since we weren't together no more

'You ok Jeff' Sam enquired

'I'm fine Sam' I sighed heavily. 'Let's just see what our next shout is on the radio'

We walked back to our ambulance and climb into our seats, taking another swig of our coffee drinks before setting off on the road again…..

After another gruelling eight more hours on shift we bumped into Tamzin and Iain at least another five more times during the day on call to assist them or give them back up if needed. My mood hadn't changed from the first shout of the day with them and just got my foul on each run in, I couldn't stop giving them the angry jealous stare as they flirted openly in front of me and hadn't noticed the sexual connection they were giving off each other.

Back at the ambulance station locker room they had both asked me if I'd like to join them for a drink to which I declined, I enter the lounge area to find that Sam was waiting for me to appear

'What do you want Sam?' I groaned

'I think we need to talk don't you'

'About what'

'You know what it's about Jeff' she stated. 'Tamzin'

'There's nothing to talk about Sam, were both fine at the moment' I proclaimed, sitting down in one of the bar stools

'Really? You don't look fine at all' Sam admitted. 'You seem too much on edge and pissed off at Tamzin. I'd see the looks you've given her today around Iain, you don't seem to happy about them working together do you'

'Why would I be? Seeing my mate and wife flirting in front of my own eyes everywhere we've been with them today'

'I'm sure there's nothing going on between them, just some harmless flirting'

'Didn't look that way to me Sam' I admitted, sighing heavily. 'It looks like she wants him and making a point of it in front of me, that's how we first got together with some harmless flirting'

'You're reading too much into this Jeff I know Iain and he wouldn't do that, not to mate at least'

'That's really reassuring Sam, good night' I exclaimed, getting up from the bar stool and getting ready to leave

'Wait Jeff' she called out

I turned to face her and Sam got up from her stool and followed me out of the lounge and the ambulance bay doors into the cool night

'You not coming to the pub then for a drink?'

'I think I'm gonna head home for the night'

'Fancy getting a bag of chips with me then'

'With ketchup' I asked, raising a brow

'Of course Jeffery' she pouted, nodding her head approvingly

'Well then lead the way' I smiled as Sam linked her arm through mine and we headed to her local chippy for a takeaway treat….
