There's just one word that can describe all of my readers: astounding. I can't believe I got all of those reviews /favs/follows from a single chapter. I am truthfully grateful and happy for the positive reviews. Thank you so much guys, that really means a lot to me.
Although I told Peeta that we're going to take our time slowly, I can hardly stop myself from staring at his lips as we continue practicing in the water. Every time he starts to move those lips whether by talking or laughing, I have to restrain myself from jumping down into the water and shove his mouth into mine. The most problematic thing is that my body doesn't just want to kiss him, but do something more and I'm scared of that thing because I might regret what I'd do.
So every time those lips start to work their effect on me, I purposely slip on some water on the board, fall down into the water and cool myself down. And I'm very grateful that he is a very nice man. Instead of scolding me like any ordinary teacher, he takes things very slowly and patiently. That is just one of the reasons why I like this guy. He is beautiful, smart, funny and patient. No girl can resist this guy's charm. I feel so lucky that he likes me to the extent that he wants me to be his girlfriend.
But then guilt rushes into me and I feel kind slightly awkward being around with him after his confession and then act as if nothing happened and we're just friends still learning about each other. Which is kind of true because that's what I said to him; we need to more about each other to start a relationship.
"I think that's enough for today," he says which breaks me from my thoughts.
"What?" I say.
"I have to get back. I, uh…" he says, "need to make sure that there is enough bread stock at the bakery."
I nod and understand why he needs to leave. I'm sure he wants some time alone to accept my answer for his question earlier. I too, need a bit of time on my own. It's not that I have to spend my time solely thinking about a guy, which never happened before.
"I'm pretty busy for two days," he tells me sadly, "So if you want to practice on your own, you can just bring my board with you. I think you're good enough to do that." And he gives me a convincing smile.
"Is that okay? I'm not sure if I have the time since I've got work as well," I say while tying my braid back after letting my hair down just now.
"It's fine. I also have ball practice for a week since the tournament is coming soon."
And then we swim back to shore and that's when I realize it's almost 3. Wow, time does fly. Peeta and I head to the shower room and take a separate shower, of course. Being a girl, I take much more time in the shower because once I get out he's already standing there, waiting for me. He now wears a tight black tank top that hugs perfectly his muscular chest and torso while I'm wearing my previous clothes. Holy crap, I would like to touch those firm chest and- shit. What the hell am I freaking thinking?! Stop thinking like a sex crazed bitch, idiot! I think and mentally beat myself against the wall till I bleed.
"Hey, ready to go?" he asks as he sees me and passes me the board.
I nod. "Yeah."
"Do you want me to give you a ride home? I'll bring my bike over if you want," he offers.
I shake my head quite too fast. "No thanks. I'm fine and I'm pretty sure you're in a hurry anyway." I hope I don't a clear sound like I want to get rid of him.
"Okay. I'll see you in two days for more practice."
I give a small smile. "I'd like that."
With that, he walks away while I continue to ogle his strapping back. This time, I really hit myself on the head with the board he just lent to me and groan. I need some distraction so I head home to watch TV, hoping that might help. When I reach at Haymitch's house, I find out that the door is locked. Oh god, no way. I look through the window and sure, no one's home. I knew I should've brought a spare key but I didn't have the slightest idea that he'd be gone somewhere. And I don't know where to start looking. I circle around the house, searching for any crack hole that can fit me but I find none.
Giving up, I lean back against the backdoor and I hear a knocking sound made by a hammer coming nearby. Scanning my surroundings, I see Haymitch hammering his boat at the dock nearby his place. Judging from his slow and tired movements, I can tell he's done this quite a while. Putting Peeta's surfboard down, I walk towards him and was about to call for him and ask why is he destroying his already collapsing boat. But once I get close enough, I realize that he's not destroying it. He's fixing it.
"What are you doing?" I ask which makes him to notice my presence.
"Oh, hey sweetheart. Didn't see you there. Just fixing my old junk here," he says, looking at me with a smile.
He then continues to hit some nails that are screwed into a white metal on the deck. I start to wonder if he only starts to do this because I snapped at him the other day but I choose not to ask him that.
Instead I ask him, "Where did you get all this stuff?" And I point to a pile of metals, glasses and some other stuff that he might need to rebuild his vessel.
"A friend of mine, Chaff had some spares in his garage so he lent me some to bring this cruiser back to life. I reconsider your opinion about going back to work and I think you're right. I need to do something about this thing before she gets thrown away. Besides, maybe drinking on a boat isn't such a bad idea," he says and then puts the hammer down to look up at me. "So what do you think, sweetheart? Do you think she looks better than before?" He then raises his arms as if it's a luxury boat.
Happy with his attempt to restart his job, I chuckle and tell him, "Honestly, maybe just this tiny better."
"Well, of course, she's gonna take more time to return to the beauty she used to be. By the way, sweetheart. You wanna give a hand?"
He hands me the hammer, and I gladly accept it. This should distract me from thinking about Peeta. "Why not?"
I step on the boat and squeal when I was about to fall into the water due to not getting used to the wobbly condition, before he manages to grab my hand on time.
"Whoa there, First Mate. You wouldn't want to fall down on your first day, right?" He laughs.
I quirk an eyebrow as he pulls me up on the deck. "Am I your crew now?"
"Better start recruiting as soon as I can. Besides, a female First Mate is something I might need to attract some attention." He winks and I playfully hit his chest.
"Shut up," I say but still smiling.
He leads me to the deck and points at his half-finished work. "Right. Chat time is over, work time has begun. Now, you start hammering on the floor here while I go measuring the windowsill over there. C'mon now, lass. Chop, chop!"
We start working and as he joked around, I forgot when the last time I had fun with him was. By 4, Prim comes back home and I call for her. I can tell she's delighted to finally see us together without arguing. She walks into boat and starts helping us by hammering another hole on the deck, though I told her not to, worried if she'd accidentally hit her delicate fingers. That late afternoon, we go back into the house exhausted but happy because finally we found something that we can enjoy together.
*sigh* Nothing is better than family bonding. I hope you liked this chapter. I think Haymitch should start working so that he can fulfill his duty as Katniss and Prim's guardian, and help him to stop drinking (which is quite impossible). Maybe at least lessen the amount alcohol he consumes. Anyway, reviews make me smile.
