Those 100 Things We Do Together

40. Sight –

"Animals aren't allowed in restaurants."

She glances to her left, a smile forms on her face. "It's a seeing-eye dog, Gary. They're allowed."

"But they're animals," he persists.

"It's okay," Rachel nudges him to look at its owner – she's holding a white cane. "Because they're helping their owner."

A few weeks later, the lights have gone out in the building.

"Hold on to me," Rachel intertwines his arm with hers. "I'm going to listen for the guards and lead us out of here."

He grasps her arm more tightly, bringing her closer.

He'll be both her seeing-eye and guard dog.

41. Temptation –

Hicks isn't the only person in the office that's good at repairing things.

Gary doesn't boast when he applies a little shoe goo onto Nina's heels – saving her favorite pair from disuse.

Nor does brag when he 'reprograms' Bill's cable box for the premium sports channels (for free).

Gary likes fixing things – DIY is bookmarked.

He's still waiting for his mom to allow him to buy a radical arm saw.

Oddly, she says no.

The one thing he can't fix is the look on Rachel's face when she closes her phone – her mother unreachable.

That doesn't mean he doesn't try.

42. Whisper –

"I'm not allowed to have processed sugar."

"It'll be just between us."

His brow furrows, "So it's like a secret."

"Yup."

"And friends have secrets," he says slowly. "So that means we're friends?"

She nudges his shoulder, giving him an exasperated look, "We've been friends, Gary."

He suddenly looks down at his intertwined fingers, a soft smile on his face.

Rachel sees his lips moving and thankfully, her hearing is abnormally good even when she's not using it to its full capability. She feels a warm, gooey sensation in the pit of her stomach as she hears him whisper, "Good."

SS: Almost at the 50 mark. I will get this done. Although it better not be before the new episodes come out. I need more inspiration! Btw, P.M.H, feel free to use my drabbles as prompt. Just give me the credit whenever you use it. It's a little humbling that you like them so much! haha
