The nurse looks us both up and down.
"Look, why don't you get your stories straight while I go get a coffee." She says, and walks away before we can explain.
"Well, I'm officially confused." Warrick says, taking a seat.
"Not even I can follow this drama." Catherine says, and sits. Grissom follows the suit. "So you guys are saying Sara has a daughter?"
"Yes." I say, reaching into my wallet. I pull out a picture of Hannah Marie, in a Cinderella dress, a tiara lodged in her curls. It was her Halloween costume. I hand it to Catherine.
"Oh! She's so cute!" Catherine passes the picture to Warrick and Grissom. Warrick smiles, and Grissom just looks lost. "So, this is really Sara's daughter?" I nod.
"Trust me, I was there when she was born." I say, directing my words at Nick.
"Well, she's my daughter, so it really should have been me there."
"Look, Nick, pretend all you want, but Hannah Marie is mine. And I've been more of a father to her than you ever will be."
"Well, you haven't been much of a help to Sara. And last I checked, didn't you want both of them out of your life forever?" I clench my teeth and ball my hands into fists. Lifting one of them, I hit Nick square in the jaw. He lifts one hand up to the throbbing spot and raises the other. Before it hits flesh, Warrick grabs it, and Grissom pulls me back.
"Calm down guys! Sara is in there, fighting for her life, and your sitting here punching each other? Is this what she would want?" Grissom yells. I've never heard such a fury in his voice. "Do you not get the gravity of the situation? Never mind, apparently not. Forget about who the father is. Hannah Marie may no longer have a mother.
