Emotion, right and wrong, these are some of the few things that separate us from animals. Take these away and you become devoid of humanity, a mere husk that is numb to the joys life gives you. It is because of this that we have friends and family, and it is also why we cling to the memories we have with them. This is what we do to suppress the feeling of emptiness, and loneliness, but take both away and a man will become a monster.

Ch.14 Resonance: My partner hates me
"Um Deedee, I do not mean to question your methods, but what did thou do beneath that car?" asked Hollow, wanting to know why his partner had just cut something that was making the car leak. Hollow was very cautious to ask though, since Deedee had found out he tried to get rid of her, she had been nothing but angry and hateful towards him. Deedee only glared at him before answering, "Because that's our targets car. If he should try to get away, the car will come to a dead stop before it even makes it out of the parking lot."
Hollow nodded his head, and said, "That is truly smart thinking." Deedee just gave him a cold stare before replying, "Don't be such a suck up. Let's just get this over with." Hollow only nodded and followed close behind her as they entered a strip club in Death City. Hollow really had to wonder how many places there were in the city, because it seemed that if you searched the whole place top to bottom, you could just about find anything. The city, heck the world was just so different now, it always seemed that one moment things were bright and sunny, and the next moment things were dark and cruel. Back in Lordran, there was only ever one mood set in the realm, ever, and it was always struggle, strife, and, survive.
Indeed, for Hollow the human race has changed so much since he had arrived here not so long ago. Honestly, everything for him just felt insane, while he alone felt normal yet out of place. There were undead in this world, his new friend Sid was proof enough of that, but this world just didn't feel right with himself in it. Hollow just didn't understand how humans would act, one moment they're happy, one moment they're sad, one moment love, the others hate. It was much like day and night now, there was good, and then there was evil, but for Hollow he didn't know where he stood.
"Hello, dumb dumb, you in there?" asked Deedee waving her hand in front of Hollow, who then snapped out of his thoughts. He then just shook his head, and decided he would ponder on his place in the world later. Right now he had to fulfill his duty as a protector to the world that never seemed to get old for him, and despite the hatred his partner was now feeling for him, he would see it through.
Inside Gentleman club
"Hehehehe, damn girl, you are one of the most sexiest women I've ever seen." said a man with dark afro hair, dark skin, and wore a dark suit. The man then went on to say, "Girl you got legs that can make any man feel small. You got the curves of the goddess Aphrodite, while your 2 girls there could make any man call you mama." Deedee only gave the man a glare, while Hollow just stood idly by, hoping that Deedee didn't take out her frustration on the man. "And you...guy." said the weird looking man, "A man like you should only be lucky to be working or go anywhere near a goddess like her, especially with that creepy ass armor."
"Ahh not really." said Hollow, trying to find the correct words to avoid any problem. The man just cocked an eyebrow at Hollow before saying, "What you talking bout boy, you should bask in this woman's gorgeous body, unless you on the other side?" Hollow just sighed, and denied what the enthusiastic man had said and replied, "No it is not that, the woman is simply not that attractive to me, I do not see-" Hollow could not finish, Deedee had knocked him upside the head.
"God damn, that woman got a temper, I think I know why-" At that moment Deedee's arm took the form of a scythes blade and held it to the man's throat. "Listen you piece of garbage, if you ever disrespect me again like that, I'll cut off your freakin head." The man only looked at the woman's arm before replying,"God damn, there's no need to cut off Rufus.D's head, I was just complimenting that sexy booty of-" Deedee's arm just got closer to Rufus's neck, shutting the pimp up.
Deedee then took out a picture of their target and said in a cold tone, "Alright, time to put those 3 brain cells to work scumbag. So where can we find the man Peter Lyodd?" The pimp took the picture, and gave it a closer look before saying, "Peter Lyodd, girl I do not screw with that freak. He's probably in the back with one of my girls, I would do something about it, but I don't wanna get blood on my suit." Hollow just gave Rufus a glare from behind his mask, the man was just pure scum. He knew what was going on with his workers disappearing, and didn't do anything to stop it, for Hollow it was just pathetic. It seemed as far as chivalry, and kindness went in this age, it was nearly dead, these people were only lucky that the people from the DWMA existed to keep order.
Deedee then took her arm away from the pimp, and just smiled, saying, "Thanks for your time, Hollow can pay you back for it, even though he doesn't have any money." Hollow, who was still rubbing the side of his head, just gave Deedee a glare as she made her way to one of the rooms in the back. "God damn boy, she always that serious?" asked Rufus, while he rubbed his neck. Hollow only sighed as he answered, "As of late." Then Hollow heard running, and when he turned he saw a kishin with short dark hair, light skin, and was a little big on the belly, run past him. The sight of the kishin shocked Hollow, the thing had the face of the Cleric Petrus, someone Hollow had killed back in Lordran.
"DAMN IT HOLLOW WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" yelled Deedee, with a cut on her leg. Hollow then snapped out of initial shock, and looked in worry at Deedee's wound. "You are hurt." said Hollow, Deedee only glared at him before saying, "Don't be a wuss, I've dealt with things like this before. NOW MOVE." Hollow just did as Deedee said and ran to the parking lot, where the kishin tried to drive away in it's car, only for it to come to an abrupt stop. This caused the kishin, who hadn't put on his seat belt, to hit his head disorienting it.
Hollow seeing that Deedee's plan had worked, began to run to the car, only for Deedee to stop him. "What are you doing? He is right-" Deedee only walked past Hollow ignoring what he had said, and began to drag her arm, that was still a scythe blade against the asphalt. When she saw a line of the leaked car fluid leading to the kishin's vehicle, she came to a stop, while the kishin fell to the ground next to it's vehicle. Deedee then created sparks from scraping the ground, the sparks then formed a line leading right to the kishin's car.
As soon as the fire reached the car, there was a moment of silence before the car had exploded. Hollow just stood there in both shock and terror, at what his partner had just done. She then turned to him with a creepy smile, while Hollow just stared at her in disbelief. At that time Rufus ran out to see what the noise was and shouted, "GOD DAMN, MY LOT, OH MY GOD." Deedee only gave Rufus the same creepy smile she gave Hollow before saying, "No need to thank me." Deedee then went to the side of the burning car, and retrieved the kishin soul, while Rufus just turned to Hollow with a face of pure terror. "God damn my man, and you have to deal with that?" he asked, still not believing believe what had happened.
Hollow just sighed and nodded his head, "Well...thanks for the help, you're more than welcome at my little sanctuary, just as long as you don't bring her." said Rufus, wanting to at least thank one of them. "Hollow, let's go." said Deedee, as she began to walk away from the strip club. Hollow just did as she said, and ran to her side not wanting to make her anymore angry.
Streets of Death City
Hollow was deep in thought at what had happened back at the club with the kishin. Deedee had brutally executed him without thought of how inhumane that made the academy look. What bothered Hollow more was that the kishin looked like Petrus, this was another face that Hollow remembered from his pilgrimage to Kiln. Petrus was a despicable man, who had betrayed his covenant and tried to kill an innocent woman named Rhea, and all because she was of higher birth. Hollow had discovered this shocking truth when he went to rescue her in the catacombs, and after words Petrus fell to his blade.
In all truth, Hollow never really understood why people did what they did. To Hollow the idea of someone killing another person because they had something you didn't, made absolutely no sense. Hollow's thoughts were interrupted when he had accidentally bumped into Deedee, who then turned around and gave him a glare. Hollow just looked at her blankly, not really knowing why Deedee was so angry. Okay he did know, but he thought by now after he had apologized so many times that she would get over it.
"Deedee", began Hollow knowing that this would probably make things worse, "Why art thou so angry, I had not done anything?" Deedee just gave him an angry look before answering, "That's exactly why I'm angry, you didn't do anything." Hollow's eyes only remained calm while he grinded his teeth at what the woman had said. "So tell me Hollow, why hadn't you done anything?" Hollow just remained quiet for a moment before answering, "He reminded-" "No stop" interrupted Deedee, "I don't want to hear anymore excuses, cause I honestly don't care what you have to say for yourself or for anything else you're doing in that matter."
"So what I say does not matter to you." Hollow confirmed, only to get a nod from Deedee. Hollow just sighed, and began to walk again until he was punched in the stomach by Deedee. This caused Hollow to kneel on the ground, and clutch his stomach in pain, while he gave an angry glare at the shingami responsible. "WHAT HAD I DONE NOW?" he yelled, Deedee only blushed before saying, "I want you to take back what you said about me in the strip club." Hollow then got to one knee, still clutching his stomach with one arm, while he replied in an angry voice, "Did you not just say, that what I have to say about anything is not important to you?"
Deedee then thought about it, blushed, and answered, "Well...I did technically...oh shut up." Deedee just pouted, and crossed her arms, feeling embarrassed for what she just did. This made Hollow look at her wide eyed, right now Deedee was reminding him of... "Could you not make that face." said Hollow, who's eyes were now looking to his right as he blushed behind his mask. "You are reminding me of someone." Deedee just cocked an eyebrow at him, and shrugged as she started to walk away. 'Great' thought Deedee, 'Now I'm giving him flashbacks.'
Death's house
"Deedee" began Hollow, "WHY ART THOU IN MY BED?" Deedee just rolled her eyes as she sat back up in the bed. "God why do you have to complain? I mean really, most guys would be happy to sleep with a woman." Hollow just glared at her before replied, "Oh I wouldn't call thee a woman. In fact I sometimes wonder." This just made Deedee's jaw drop, she could not believe what Hollow just said about her. "I'll let you know that I am a woman, and proud of it." said Deedee, as she got out of the bed and looked Hollow right in the eyes.
"Really" said Hollow sarcastically, "Because I am looking at you in your undergarments, and I cannot see anything special about you. Do not forget I am so much older then you, and therefore I have had more experience." This caused Deedee to blush in embarrassment as she looked down at herself, and tried to find what was wrong with her. Hollow seeing Deedee despair at his words continued on saying, "I even once met a goddess named Gwynevere, now she truly deserved the title of goddess. Compared to her, you are nothing but the average woman."
Deedee just held her head down, completely hiding her eyes beneath her hair that was now loose for bed. "What did she have that I don't?" asked Deedee, as a creepy smile formed on her face. Hollow just remained quiet, he knew what that smile meant, and it usually would mean his partner would do something extreme. Deedee then looked at Hollow with one eye completely wide, while the other was half-shut, needless to say, Hollow didn't like the look at all.
Deedee then quickly grabbed Hollow's hand, and held it tightly in a death grip. Hollow just stared wide eye at her, fearing what she would actually do to him, 'Please' he thought, 'Not another headbutt.' Then the fear he felt turned to complete and utter shock as Deedee guided his hand to her legs. "Were her legs longer then mine?" she asked, Hollow just shook his head no, not believing what was now happening. Deedee then guided his hand to her waist, as she asked, "Did she have nice curves?" Hollow only shook his head again, now fearing what Deedee would do to him if answered any other way.
Finally Deedee moved Hollow's hand to her breasts, and asked, "Were her's bigger then mine." Hollow though did not hear the question, he was deep in thought about how Deedee felt. 'Well' he thought, 'They are pretty firm, and they are not really small like other women's.' Then Hollow realized what he was doing, and snapped himself out of the trance as he pulled away from Deedee. "Aha" said Deedee, as Hollow pulled away from her, "So you do like how I look, just goes to show, even someone as neurotic as you has a breaking point."
Hollow just tried to deny what Deedee was claiming, but the woman wouldn't let it go. She even started to point out what Hollow's flaws were, and said in a mocking tone, "Sorry but women like me don't go for guys like you, and I'll gladly tell you why. Now let's see, you're creepy, have no sex appeal, neurotic, have too many scars, too serious, and lack any muscle on the body. Really, your mother must have been ashamed of you." Hollow just steeled himself, and repressed any thought of killing Deedee right where she stood for bringing his mother into it.
"Your tits are too small." said Hollow, wanting to hurt Deedee. Deedee just widened her eyes before saying, "What did you say?" Hollow only smiled before going on to say, "Your tits are small, your arrogant and annoying, you have no self esteem, and your father's ashamed of you." Deedee was just shocked and left without words at what Hollow had told her, she had to wonder if what he said was true. "You don't know that...your lying." Hollow's smile only grew wider as he went on to say, "You are right, I don't know, but this is how I feel about you."
When Hollow had said that, he noticed that Deedee looked like she was about to cry. Instead she just screamed, "SCREW YOU, WHAT WOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT ME, REALLY YOUR NO DIFFERENT FROM ANY OTHER TYPICAL MALE." 'Ehh' thought Hollow, 'Humans are so noisy.' He then went on to say, "Why are you so angry? You said nothing I say was of any importance. So what does it matter what I say?" He then looked past Deedee to the bed, and said, "The bed is yours, now go to sleep."
Deedee just looked at Hollow and pouted like she did earlier, which enraged Hollow. "Go to sleep." said Hollow as he grinded his teeth. At that moment Deedee punched Hollow in the face, knocking him out. "You really are a cold heartless dead man." said Deedee, as she left the room, not even caring if she hit Hollow too hard.
A few hours later
Hollow awoke from his blow to the head in the middle of the night, and rubbed his bruised face. As Hollow picked himself off the floor, he noticed that Deedee was not even sleeping on the bed. 'Must be out, laughing about this." thought Hollow, as he rubbed his right eye, which was stinging. Hollow just really didn't know what to do, if he hit her back there would certainly be consequences, but if he didn't then he would have to deal with Deedee's nonsense, really the moment just happened too fast to even think. It was all just frustrating, Hollow had never before been in such a position.
Back in the cave Hollow promised to stay by Deedee's side, after learning that she herself had struggled in life. But now he was wondering if he should even try, Deedee already hated him. Heck she would make him apologize for trying to replace her, she fought with him about petty things, and she would whack him every time he stood up for himself. Their whole relationship was more like slavery then it was a partnership, really never before had Hollow have to deal with a comrade who didn't like you, but wanted you there. 'Human's are so confusing.' thought Hollow, wondering what to do now that he was awake, because he certainly would not go back to sleep when he felt like he had a concussion.
Hollow then decided that he would just check his armor to see if he could fix any damage he may have obtained from a kishin, and try to calm himself down. When he got up, and went to the drawers, he saw that his armor was gone. 'What' Hollow thought, as he looked around the drawer. When he couldn't find it in there, he decided to check the entire room, until the headache he now had stopped him. 'Where is it?' he thought, growing more frustrated. Then he stopped his search and came to one logical explanation, 'Deedee' Hollow thought grinding his teeth. Deedee was still trying to get back at him, even though she had already hurt him.
Despite only being in his tattered robes, Hollow opened the door to the hallway, and quietly made his way through the mansion. Though Hollow had been in many dark places, he found it hard to navigate through the huge house in the dark. 'Really' thought Hollow, 'Who needs a home this big?' Then Hollow heard noise come from the end of the hall, which he remembered was Liz and Patty's room. Hollow quickly dismissed it, and thought that they might have been awake in there. "Oh Hollow, come hither." said a voice, that sounded a lot like Deedee's.
"Deedee?" called out Hollow, hoping he didn't wake anyone, but there was no reply. Instead he heard humming come from the room, like someone was waiting for him. As Hollow got closer to the room, he felt a feeling of dread, it was as if the very house was against him. When he reached the door, Hollow felt a cold shiver run up his spine, as he touched the doors knob. The whole door felt icy cold, like there was a huge blizzard behind it, 'How do those 2 sleep in there?' thought Hollow.
When he opened the door, before him knelt a woman that he thought was Deedee from the shape of her body. "Deedee" whispered Hollow, "Hey Deedee." but there was no reaction, she just ignored Hollow's call. Hollow just glared at the kneeling form, and said in a voice loud enough, "Stop ignoring me, where did you put thy armor?" In response to the question, the form began to tremble and weep, as if she thought Hollow had just yelled at her. Hollow just ignored this and repeated the question, "Where is thy armor?"
This time though, the figure's head snapped up, and looked at Hollow through the darkness. The figure then began to stand up, and as it did, Hollow realized that this person was not Deedee at all. In fact the figure was actually getting much bigger as it stood up from the ground, until it stood at its full height. The figure was a giant of a woman, that was now looking down at Hollow, who just stared wide eye at her. The figure then said through a sad voice, "Why did thou leave me? I had thought thee had loved me, was I wrong?"
"Pri...Priscilla?" said Hollow, as he tried to look at her face to confirm who he thought he was talking too. The figure just ignored this as she went on to say, "I knew I was a fool to love you, I cannot believe how naive I was when thou had promised to always be by my side. Now here thou art, and with another woman who looks as I do." What the figure had said, confirmed Hollow's suspicion, but instead of wondering how and why this moment was happening, he just smiled.
"Priscilla, my one true love, I would never betray thee. I still keep true to the promise we have made to each other, do not think because I am forced to cooperate with another woman that looks as you do, that I have forsaken my vow to be with you." said Hollow. Hollow then walked up to Priscilla's still form, not even caring if she was real or not, to him whether he was dreaming or not did not matter, he finally had the chance to speak with her. Before he could get any closer, Priscilla's scythe slammed down right in front of him, as she screamed, "LIAR YOU ARE WITH HER, DO NOT DENY IT. I KNOW HOW YOU LOOK AT HER, YOU ARE WITH HER BECAUSE SHE IS HUMAN." Hollow just looked between the scythe and Priscilla, as he stared wide eye at them.
"Priscilla I-" Hollow didn't get to finish, Priscilla just kept slamming her scythe into the ground as she screamed. "LIAR, LIAR, LIAR, LIAR, LIAR, LIAR. YOU PROMISED ME THAT WE WOULD BE TOGETHER, THAT YOU WOULD NEVER LEAVE ME ALONE. I TRUSTED YOU, I TRUSTED YOU, I TRUSTED YOU, AND HERE YOU ARE WITH HER." Hollow just kept trying to calm her down, but the crossbreed wouldn't listen to reason. He tried going up to her to calm her down, but she just kept slamming her scythe on the ground.
Then Hollow Realized he wasn't in Death's house anymore, he was in Priscilla's tower, inside the painted world of Ariamis. Hollow just stood there terrified, he was somehow back in the painting, and there without any armor. As this shocking truth hit Hollow full force, he looked up at Priscilla's face, which looked more monstrous then he remembered it. She now wore dark robes, had sharp teeth, her hands had become claws, her back had spikes erupting from them, and her feet had become much like a dragons talons.
"Priscilla.. what happened to you?" asked Hollow, who was now in a state of disbelief at what had become of the sweet, kind hearted, crossbreed. She then stopped slamming her scythe, and smiled at Hollow, and said, "You ruined everything, you thief." Hollow just started to back away as he saw Priscilla walk toward him with her scythe at the ready. Hollow then tried to make a run for the exit to the painting, but found his way blocked as 2 hooded figures stood before him. "You bloody thief, did you really think you could steal my life from me twice without fear of consequence." As the person who said this, took out a dagger, the other hooded figure stopped him while saying, "Whoa easy there, we still need him alive, you don't want to disappoint the boss do you. Besides the thief will get whats coming to him eventually, and I would know, I knew him back when he was alive, and I can tell you it did not end well for him."Hollow just ignored the conversation, and watched in terror as the 2 hooded figures before him revealed themselves as Petrus and Patches, an assassin that Petrus had hired to kill both him and Rhea.
The 2 looked at him with cold dark eyes, that no longer had any light within them. Patches then began to laugh queerly, as he looked upon Hollow who was in complete terror at what was happening. As Hollow looked back he saw Priscilla slowly making her way to him, with the same eyes the 2 before him had. "Alright you 2." said Patches, "You both made your point, he knows we'll be coming for him and his precious little school." said Patches, as he walked toward Hollow. He then picked Hollow up like he was nothing, and held him high, as he faced what appeared to be a bottomless fall into darkness. "We'll be "seeing ya real soon, now wake up." with that Patches threw Hollow off the tower as he began to fall into the darkness.
In reality
Hollow had woken up screaming, as he soon realized he was on the floor. He then calmed down as he realized that he had just had another nightmare, and this being the worst he ever had. 'Thank the lords, it was only a dream.' he thought, as he rubbed his bruised face. Hollow then remembered that Deedee had knocked him out cold, and thought, 'Maybe that's why I had such a nightmare.' That was it, it was all Deedee's fault, and when he found her he would make her pay. His thoughts were interrupted as he heard light breathing come from the bed, and realized Deedee actually went to bed after knocking him out cold.
Hollow just glared angrily at Deedee's sleeping form, until the bruise on his right eye began to sting. He then decided he would get back at Deedee later, but for now he needed to treat his eye. Hollow then went to the bathroom, and turned on the water to the sink. The water's feel helped numb the pain, as he kept splashing his face with it, to make the swelling go down. After a few moments, Hollow no longer felt the stinging pain he did in his right eye, and looked into the mirror to see what the damage was.
Instead Hollow was greeted with the terrible sight of his own hollow form, smiling at him with an evil toothy looking grin. 'Hello me' the reflection greeted, Hollow just closed his eyes and shook his head to make the image go away, but it was still there. 'You won't get rid of me that easy this time.' it said, while Hollow just glared at it. "What do you want now?" asked Hollow, growing more irritated at the advice the voice in his head had to offer. The hollow reflection, then pointed toward Deedee, and said, 'Why do you not just slit her throat.'
This made Hollow eyes widen, not believing he himself would even come up with such a terrible thing. 'I do not see the problem in doing so.' began the voice, 'Thou hath taken other lives for lesser reasons, what is the life of another. Besides this woman deserves it, she makes you look like a fool in front of your students, hurts you when you try to be nice, and taunts you by sharing the same face as someone we love. Someone like her is definitely deserving of death, do you not agree?' Hollow just glared at the reflection before replying, "No, she does not. Now go away, and leave me alone."
The reflection only growled before reaching out of the mirror and holding Hollow by the throat. 'Why can you not be as simple like you were, before you made that promise to that foolish sunlight warrior?' Hollow just glared at the reflection before answering in a cold tone, "Because he opened my eyes, and made me realize the fate that lay in store for me if I did. That if I actually had listened to you, we would be a mere husk waiting to steal humanity, an undead who's soul purpose was to kill others for something we did not have, we would have become a simple thief again, and only you know how that fate ended for us." The reflection only made a disturbing chuckle before replying, 'What can I say, old habits die hard.'
It then let go of Hollow, and disappeared back into the mirror, as if nothing had ever happened. Hollow then decided he would go to the DWMA, and try to find a different partner before the voice in his head would suggest the same thoughts he just heard. He then quickly dressed himself in his armor, and decided to bring his broken weapon Dex along with him. Hollow then quietly made his way out of the house, being careful not to wake anyone.
On the streets of Death City
It was only a few hours before sunrise, as Hollow walked along the city at night. As he walked he could only gaze in bewilderment at what he saw filled the sky. They were stars, actual stars, Hollow had never been able to see what they really looked like since the day and nights in Lordran were only illusions. He had only heard about them from other undead, such as Logan, and Solaire, oh what he would give to actually see little suns light up the dark of night.
Sadly this did not happen, and Hollow could only blame himself for what happened to Solaire. He had gotten so hungry for power and humanity that he did not listen to Solaire's warning as to what would happen. Hollow just smiled at the thought of his friends possibly being up there among the stars watching him, for he had not only fulfilled the promise to the knight that had rescued him, but fulfilled his promise of delivering them and the world, into something better. Hollow now realized because of his actions, that the world now had beauty and happiness in it, and better yet a sun that Solaire had always wanted.
Though Hollow had to wonder if these stars had been in Lordran the whole time, or if these were the result of him rekindling the flame. If these stars did exist in Lordran, then Hollow could only imagine the many stories those light in the sky had seen. Yes, for Hollow the stars also meant stories and ancestry, to be able to think that someone else from a time long past, or far in the future, would see the same stars. To be able to imagine what heroes fought under their sight, and watch them all from beginning to end.
Hollow couldn't help but feel depressed at this simple truth. The stars reminded him that all his friends and companions, the ones he had met on his pilgrimage were all gone. That these very stars watched their stories end, while his went on in another time, far off from theirs. For Hollow, to know that they had all died long ago, just made him feel alone and forgotten, and he was so sure that rekindling the flame would help him reunite with them. The fact that it didn't, just made Hollow feel disappointed, not only because he wouldn't be able to see them again, but also because he was all that was left of their time.
Though for Hollow, this wasn't the time to weep, or feel sorry for himself. No, the past was the past, and he didn't have the time to regret his past decisions. Besides he never asked for any of this, or had thought this was all possible, so Hollow came to one simple conclusion as to why his fate was a joke to possibly some new god that reigned over it. This thought, this belief was that if anything, he had not chosen death, but that it was death that chose him.
At DWMA
"Hello Hollow, what's up?" asked Death in his regular happy voice. Hollow then took out his broken weapon Dex, and held it out to the shinigami. "I can not deal with your daughter my lord, so I beg of thee, please find a way to repair my old weapon." Death only looked at Dex, before replying "Is Deedee acting crazy again?" Hollow then glared at Death, realizing that he knew this would happen, and paired him up with her anyway. "You knew this would happen?" asked Hollow in an angry tone.
Death just tilted his head, before saying, "Know what? What exactly is she doing?" Hollow just glared at him before answering, "You know what I am talking about. You knew she was mad." Death just sighed before replying, "She's not mad, just confused." Hollow just rolled his eyes before he said in a louder voice, "Confused, my lord you are mistaken, she simply hates me." Death then replied, "She doesn't hate you, she just feels betrayed. If she did hate you, she would have just left, and told me this was a bad idea."
Hollow only cocked an eyebrow before saying, "Alright if she does not despise me, then why the bloody hell is she hurting me?" Death just tilted his head before asking, "She's hurting you...how?" Hollow then tried to think of times Deedee had really made him angry, and answered, "She had disrespected me in front of my students, shows lack of care toward anyone's well being, doesn't listen to a word I say, and proceeds to hit me every time we argue."
This time Death cocked an eyebrow, before saying, "Hollow I don't really see the problem, if anything this is normal for a meister and a weapon. And you must realize by now that you are and have been her only partner." Hollow just glared at Death and was going to retort, but Death had continued saying, "And Hollow, don't think I haven't heard about you trying to replace her, if anything, her anger towards you is justified. Haven't you realized you were the first person besides Kid and I, that she had decided to actually trust and believe in."
Hollow just looked at Death wide eye before saying, "But my lord, I had apologized to her, and promised ever to hurt her again." Death again only sighed before replying, "Hollow, do you remember what Kid had told you about her in the cave?" Hollow just mentally smacked himself as he thought, 'So it was the boy who ratted me out, looks like Spirit and the other 2 are not to blame.' He then answered Death's question with a nod, and let Death continue. "So you know that she has had a tough childhood, that she alone faced many evil kishin, and have seen many terrible things."
Hollow just gave Death another glare before replying, "My lord, I to had suffered and have seen many things one should never see, this does not excuse your daughter. In my age, we had to face the pain, in my age-" Death just held out a huge finger as he interrupted Hollow saying, "That's precisely my point Hollow, this isn't your time. The people of this this time aren't raised to be warriors, or any other type of person who doesn't feel when they must kill one another. No the people that usually would kill without thought or remorse, are the kishin or animals. This is what separates us from them, how Deedee is feeling is no surprise to me."
"Well then" began Hollow, "Please fix my weapon, I do not want one that feels as I slay my enemies. I am a warrior, I did not join this place to teach children or deal with anyone's drama." "So why did you join Hollow?" asked Death, "I understand that you need souls to survive, but you can't expect people to ignore you, like they had probably done in your time. No people feel, and they connect, and when you work in a school, no matter what you teach, there is always bound to be some type of drama. For instance when you saved Soul and Maka, Maka felt in debt to you, and believes you can help her and her friends. Or when you told Spirit the truth no one had bothered to tell him after he divorced his wife, he realized the truth, and thought of you as a honest and true friend. So I'll ask again Hollow, why did you join, and what did you expect?"
After hearing everything Death had told him, Hollow couldn't think of anything else beside this one answer. "I just want it all to be over. I do not belong or fit in this world, humans are just too noisy and surprising to try and understand. I honestly do not care for their squabble. My only purpose, both in this world and mine had been to destroy, hunt, and survive, like any other undead. Aside from that, all I really want is quiet, all I really want is to be at peace, because I have had enough of the endless bloodshed."
"See" said Death, "You aren't completely dead to the world, what you just said sounded very human." Hollow after hearing that just blushed from embarrassment, and tried not to let Death get to him. "Now that this is settled, it's probably best you get to the training grounds, it's now opening time." Hollow just ignored this as he tried to think of a comeback, but he couldn't think of anything. "Oh and Hollow" said Death, "If you ever need to vent again, I'll be here, you don't have to suffer alone anymore."
