So I've finally decided to update this old fic, it's been a few months since this was even touched. Who knows when it will be updated after this, right now I have little to no inspiration to write fanfiction. I'm actually working on an original story about cats, well a really old story about cats that I just got back into. I've been drawing scenes from it almost everyday for the past week, yet I haven't uploaded a thing to deviantart (this won't even be uploaded there, since no one reads this story on that site). If any of you are interested in what I've come up with so far, check out my deviantart. It's under the same name as here and the folder is titled "Lament of the Heavens".

Well anyway, before I go on rambling, this chapter was interesting and fun to write, you'll see why if you chose to keep reading. I wish all chapters could be like that. Anyway I hope you enjoy it and hopefully I'll put the sketchpad aside for a little to actually start writing. I'll try to at least lol.

Thank you all for the favs, follows, and reviews this story has gotten so far! It makes me happy to know that somewhere out there someone likes my writing, even though I personally think I'm not that good. Anyway, thanks again and enjoy!

Shared Minds

Once Ed had calmed down Al released him. The chimera was still glaring at the colonel, who was a safe distance away, sitting at the base of the stairs. He was glad to see that Ed's eyes looked clearer, burning with that familiar fire.

"Was that really necessary?" The chimera growled, raising one misshapen paw to his throat as soon as he was finished. He let out a small cough, as though he were clearing his throat, confusion lighting his gaze.

"Are you okay brother?" Alphonse asked from where he was seated beside his brother. Ed looked at him and his confusion turned to understanding.

"I'm not quite used to this body's vocal cords." He lowered his paw and sighed.

"You didn't seem bothered by it before the transmutation. Are you sure nothing is wrong?" Al glanced at Mustang who just shrugged.

"The transmutation was only to separate the minds, it shouldn't have an effect on his body. I'm guessing that his fully human mind is finding it hard to comprehend how this dog body works." The colonel sat up a little straighter, wincing as the room spun around him. Ed nodded in agreement.

"Its fine Al, really it is." Ed placed a paw on Al's leg, "I'll get used to it again."

"Can you still remember what happened before the transmutation?" The armor asked, relaxing at his brother's touch, even though he couldn't feel it. Ed froze eyes widening as he tried to remember. He let out a small whine and flopped down on the couch, burying his head in a nearby pillow.

"Everything's fuzzy but I remember." He said, voice muffled by the pillow. Al put a hand on Ed's shoulder but he didn't respond.

"Brother, what's wrong?" Al cried, making Mustang get to his feet. The colonel stumbled over to Ed's side, ungracefully sitting down onto the floor by the couch.

"Edward, it you're hurting please tell us. I need to know that you're okay after what happened." The chimera flinched and raised his head, muzzle still resting on the pillow as he fixed Mustang with his golden gaze.

Suddenly unknown thoughts and feelings overtook him. He bowed over at the force that they had entered his mind with. Very grainy images of movement and dull colors flashed behind his eyes. He could feel the memory of intense pain, could see the dull, gray, colors glow white. From beside him he heard Ed groan.

"Are you two okay?" Al's voice cut through the cloud of strange thoughts in Mustang's head. He could feel pain and fear, could smell the scent of stone, he could even feel the rough texture rubbing against his hand. Then the images slowly faded, and with them the agony and terror. He blinked a few times, chasing the last of the images away, and raised his head to look at Ed.

The chimera had his paws over his head; eyes squeezed shut as he spoke through gritted teeth.

"It felt like someone scooped everything out of my head and replaced it with someone else's thoughts." He growled, slowly opening his eyes and lowering his paws. A strange feeling overcame the colonel, but whether it was his own or not was a different matter.

"The same just happened with me. I could feel different things and I even saw some blurry pictures." Ed's eyes snapped towards his direction, full of confusion. "But I think I know why it happened."

"Well let's hear it genius." The chimera growled, shakily sitting up with his shoulders hunched and his head hanging low. Never did he break eye contact with the colonel.

"Our minds were linked for a short time during the transmutation, during that time the same thing happened to me, did it happen to you as well? Were you seeing images that weren't in your head before?" Ed nodded and Mustang continued. "What happened just now was that our thoughts got switched like before. It must be a side effect of the transmutation."

"So what you're saying is that we just read each other's minds?" Ed let out a disbelieved snort when the colonel nodded. When he saw that Mustang was serious he just let out a sigh, raising a paw to brush a stray hair that was tickling his nose. "But then again stranger things have happened, why should this be any different?"
