Day 21 – prompt from Spockologist: Holmes has a new toy. And it's incredibly annoying.

Note: CRACK AHEAD. Couldn't resist.

Further Note: If you click to my profile, you'll see another brand-new Sherlock Holmes Christmas story: It's a Wonderful Life, Sherlock Holmes. It's based upon the Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century cartoon, but even if you've never seen the cartoon, it shouldn't be that hard to follow (and Wikipedia and IMDb can help you out). Please check it out!

==Day 21: The Toy==

"Holmes?"

"Holmes…"

"Holmes!"

"Oh, confound it! What, Watson?"

"What on earth is that thing?"

"It is called a Game Boy, Doctor. Mycroft says his department is testing them out as a method of building problem-solving skills."

"…I seeee… And you, ah, need aid in building problem-solving skills?"

"Don't be daft, man. It is a complex little machine with the most intriguing scenarios programmed into it."

"…programmed."

"Yes."

"I see. It is… rather loud."

"Ah, yes. Unfortunately, the inventors have yet to design volume control."

"…volume control."

"Quite so."

Ten minutes later…

"Holmes, I am trying to write—would you please stop playing with that thing?"

"Game Boy, Watson. Oh, very well—I'll take it into my bedroom."

"Thanks awfully."

Twenty minutes…

"Half an hour. Half a bloody hour, and I am already being driven insane. This flat is not, as the Americans say, big enough for me and that bloody machine."

The next day…

"Watson, have you seen my Game Boy?"

"Afraid I haven't, old man! Did you look downstairs?"

"No. I'll do that right now. I can't think where it might be…"

One minute later…

"…I'm sorry, Holmes, truly, but it was a matter of that toy or my sanity. Just please don't kill me once you realize what has happened."

Author's Note:

*snickers* Ever read My BFF Watson? It's one of KCS's collabs—I would have used a cell phone here instead of a Game Boy, but she and her collaborator beat me to it. ^_^ Anyway, so… yeah, Game Boy is actually Japanese—picky, picky, picky… Artistic license. Sue me.

Aww, poor Holmes! He didn't mean to drive Watson crazy! And Watson can just be devious sometimes, can't he? *is still snickering*
