Shippo's Deepest Wish:

Shippo sat at the small fire that the Goddess had made for him. It had been several days since his adopted mother had entered the cave and there was still no sign of her. It worried him…she was all he had left. He had never actually known his birth mother. She had die giving birth to him and his father was dead. He had died so cruelly at the hands of the Thunder Brothers. If it had not been for Kagome, he would have never gotten revenge. The Thunder Brothers paid for what they had done to his father. Shippo tried to remember what his father had looked like…and the only thing that came to his mind was the face of Kagome. She had become his world from the moment she had taken his hand. It was almost like his soul had seen what she would do for him. She cared for him like a mother. Well at least like he had always thought a mother would act. She made him meals, and made sure he was warm at night. She kissed his boo-boos and praised him when he did something good. He really wished that she was his real mother and not just his adopted mother.

"Shippo…what is your deepest wish?" The Goddess asked taking a seat next to the small fox demon.

"All I have ever wanted was a mother…after meeting Kagome I knew that I wanted her to be my mother. She is my world and I know that I am hers. But I have always been afraid that if she ever had actual children from her body she would forget all about me. So I wish that Kagome was my mother by blood. That was the only thing I want." Shippo said refusing to meet the Goddess's eyes. He knew that he was being selfish but he could not help it. It was how he truly felt. He did not know what he would do, if he ever lost Kagome. He was not sure his soul could take anymore abandonments.

The Goddess looked at the fox demon…she then noticed the tears that had fallen from his green eyes. Seeing him like that made her heart break... So much pain for someone so young. It was cruel of the other gods! She was not the most powerful goddess, nor was she actually a true goddess. She was not born from the mating of a god and a goddess, but rather a created goddess. She was created to humor a god who had gotten bored. If not for her escape, she would still be at his mercy…the thought made her shiver and she knew that she would help the little fox. After all Kagome had made her a believer in happy endings.

"I will help you… It would be an honor to help. It would also make another of Kagome's wishes come true." The Goddess said placing a hand on the auburn hair of young Shippo.

"You think Kagome wants to be my mother by blood? Truly? I had hoped that I was not just me…" Shippo said wiping his tear stained eyes to look at the beautiful Goddess beside him.

The Goddess gave him a gentle smile and pulled him into her arms. She tried to comfort him but what he really needed was his mother.

The mist surrounded her new body, she was still getting use it. She could smell the fires from the village she had just passed. She could feel the damp cold in the air. Winter was fast approaching and she wanted to reach her old village before it set in. She knew that if she went there she would be able to see InuYasha once more. And that was her true goal; she wanted to remind him of his promises. All the promises he had made to her, before and after her death. He had to know that she would force him to keep them. She may not be a priestess anymore but that did not mean she was without power. After she had taken over this body she had realized that she no longer had them, but she also noticed something else…the owner of this body had been a dark witch. And the tattoos were still covering her body, making it possible to tap into the power she had left upon her death. As she walked through the forest she felt a pull…almost like it was actually pulling at her soul. However, that would be impossible sense when she was reborn into this body she had regained her original soul and as far as she could remember she had never been this far north before. However she was never one to ignore something like this, so she turned from the direction of her old village to follow the pull.

Her feet hit the ground making a small crunching sound out of the leaves that covered the dirt. With each step her heart seemed to actually feel lighter. Where ever the pull was taking her new body seemed to know very well… Almost like she had walked this path many, many times before. With each passing second she grew excited. She could not wait to see what was waiting for her at the end of this small side journey.

Kagome let out the breath she had been holding, she did not know how much more of this she could take. It felt like she had been locked in this cave for years. Her feet ached and her stomach burned from the lack of food. She had no idea when all of this would be done… her body cried out in pain and agony begging her to allow it to rest, but until she reached the end of this trial she would not allow it.

"Young Priestess, you have passed the expectations of all. You have proven yourself to be the true holder of the jewel. All before you were weak…weak in body but mainly in spirit. You have passed a test that most gods cannot pass until they have reached their 500th year. Be proud of yourself and never let anyone tell you that you are weak. Hold your head high and know you have the powers of the gods in your blood." A male voice said in the darkness that surrounded Kagome. She tried so hard to find where the voice was coming from but it sounded like it came from everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

Kagome took a step forward when the voice spoke once more "Keep walking forward and soon you will reach the mouth of the cave. Beware you have changed the people may not know you but fret not the land and its life will know you."

Kagome nodded her head and finally allowed her tired body to begin its final steps of the trial.

Kirara looked up from where she was resting to stare at the small fox demon. She knew what it was like to have no family, but she had been a full grown demon when she had lost her mother and father. Kirara took to her feet and walked over to Shippo; she gently rubbed her head against his leg and began to purr.

Shippo sat at the entrance of the cave, for some reason his small body had moved on its own and would not allow him to leave its spot. It was almost like his body had a will all its own. Sense he was a demon it would be stupid to ignore his own instincts. So there he sat… waiting for his mother to return so that her scent of honeysuckle and sunflowers would fill his nose once more. While he was thinking about this he began to pet Kirara.

The Goddess had decided to move their camp, she could not leave the little fox without protection…Kagome would kill her. It had been three days since Shippo had walked to the cave and had refused to leave. The Goddess was not use to seeing a child sit still for long hours at a time, it was sad to see the hyper Shippo just sitting there.

A small rumble filled the small area causing Shippo and The Goddess to turn and look at the entrance of the cave. Just then Kagome stepped out and into the sun.

"Oh my gods, what happened to you in that cave Lady Kagome?" The Goddess said as she took a step back.

Shippo looked at the woman he called his mother that was when he noticed how she looked. Her one blue-black hair now had blonde streaks mixed in it. Her once ocean blue eyes where now an ice blue that seemed to pierce into your very soul. Her once somewhat childish body was now thinner and seemed to have more muscle making her eyes stand out even more. Her school uniform had been replaced with a dark blue kimono that had a small pattern of cherry blossoms on the hems and seams. She looked so beautiful…but if The Goddess had not called her Kagome…he would not have even realized that it was his mother. She looked so different and even her scent had changed. He did not know what to make of this new Kagome…however his body did not care how she had changed as he ran to her and jumped into her waiting arms.

Kirara watched the small reunion and let out a small meow in greeting.

"Oh my precious baby boy…how I have missed you! I never want to leave you like that again. My heart and soul called out to you many times while was stuck in that blasted cave." Kagome whispered to him as she rubbed her cheek on his head breathing in his scent.

"Mama, I missed you sooo much. I was so worried for you." Shippo cried as he clutched her tighter afraid that it was all in his mind.

"Never again Shippo… we will be with each other from now on." Kagome said. Just as Kagome went to kiss the top of Shippo's head a fierce pain hit her body. Kagome dropped to the ground still holding Shippo, and let out a pain filled scream.

Shippo jumped back from his mother and watched as Kagome brought a hand to her left breast and curled her body into a ball. The night was filled with Kagome's screams and tears streamed down her face.

"Mama, what is wrong? What is going on? Mama, do not die! Please do not die!" Shippo screamed as he fell to Kagome's side.

The Goddess watched the scene in front of her. She did not know what to do…her only friend was in pain and there was nothing she could do for her. All she could do was watch and wait.

Shippo was so scared. His mother was in pain! She could die! Shippo looked to The Goddess and what he saw relieved him of some of his fears. While The Goddess looked worried she was not freaking out so that had to be a good thing. Shippo laid his hand on his mother's head and rubbed it. While he was doing that he whispered words of love and comfort. Just like Kagome did when he got hurt. He then whispered his deepest wish into her ear and he told her how The Goddess said she could bind them as family.

Kagome could hear the words her son was saying but the pain prevented her from being able to speak. As suddenly as the pain came it began to fade…the pain faded until it was nothing more than a dull throb. Very slowly making sure that the pain was actually gone, Kagome rose from the ground to her knees. Kagome smiled trying to make Shippo feel better. Then she rose to her feet and looked at the spot where the pain had come from.

"What the hell?" Kagome whispered when she noticed a tattoo on her collar bone.

The Goddess started to laugh and walked over to Kagome.

"Lady Kagome it is ok…it is a mark that tells everyone that you carry the blood of the gods in your veins." The Goddess said as she reached out and touched the tattoo.

Kagome looked at The Goddess and then looked at the tattoo…boy was her mother going to kill her.

"Mama, I think it is pretty. It looks like a sun with gold and silver." Shippo said as he smiled at Kagome.

Kagome realized that Shippo was right. The new tattoo on her body was a circle with silver and gold in it…it kind of looked like the yin-yang symbol.

"You are right Shippo…but enough about that…Shippo do you really want to be my son?" Kagome asked looking into Shippo's eyes.

Shippo looked at the dirt at his feet and rubbed his toe into the ground, then he whispered "Yeah I want that more than anything."

"Then that is what we will do." Kagome said reaching down to take Shippo into her arms.

The Goddess stared at her friend and her son and knew that out of everything she had ever done this was truly the most wonderful.
