Hello! This is just a fluffy little scene that I love and really wanted to write and share. It's not necessarily important to the story, but I love the completely unrealistic fluffy stuff, so I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Enjoy!
Disclaimer: I own nothing that you recognize from the Twilight Saga, which belongs to Stephenie Meyer.
On Tuesday night, Bella, Charlie, and I were over at Billy's, enjoying some wonderful food, when Emily, Embry, and Sam joined us. Emily brought a cake that made Charlie instantly love her.
Charlie had never met Embry before, something I had been avoiding. I hurried forward and took his hand, leading him over to Charlie.
"Dad, this is Embry Call," I said. "My boyfriend."
Boyfriend seemed like such a weak word. Embry was my soul mate, my future husband, 'boyfriend' didn't even cover it.
"Hello, sir," said Embry. He was calm as he held out his hand and Charlie shook it. "It's good to meet you."
"And you, Embry," replied Charlie. "You'll have to excuse me for being wary of my daughters' boyfriends: the last one didn't exactly work out well."
His eyes flickered to Bella, who was laughing next to Jacob.
"I completely understand," replied Embry. "But you don't need to worry. I'll never hurt Bianca the way that Bella was hurt."
He said it with such conviction that Charlie seemed taken aback for a moment. Then he attempted to fix his features into a scary-father look.
"Good."
The conversation was ended when Emily asked if Charlie wanted cake.
After Charlie walked away, I headed outside with Embry. Jacob and Bella followed. Embry and I went for a leisurely walk in the rainless sky, while they headed back to the garage.
We were silent for awhile, our interlocked hands swinging between us. It was companionable silence, no speaking necessary. We were just enjoying each other's company.
"You know," I said into the silence, "I think he might just like you."
Embry smiled. "I'm not so sure. He seemed to hate me."
"Well, duh," I said, rolling my eyes. "No girl's father is going to love her boyfriend. It's principal."
"Oh?"
"Mm-hm," I said matter-of-factly. "But, Charlie's just going to get used to it, especially since we're going to be together for a long time."
"We are?" he asked.
I pretended to be offended and dropped his hand. He chuckled and reached out, pulling me close to him as he turned to face me.
"Of course we are," he said. "And I have something for you. Just to prove it."
He let go of me to reach into his pocket. He pulled out an intricately braided bracelet. He motioned for me to put my hand up and I obliged as his long, thin fingers tied the bracelet to my wrist.
"What's this?" I asked, touching the beautiful bracelet and studying it.
"This," he said, taking my hands, "is a Quileute version of a promise ring. It's a promise to love you forever, no matter what the future brings."
I felt a smile creep across my face. "Embry, it's beautiful."
He smiled and leaned down to kiss me softly. I lost myself in the kiss, feeling my feet lift off the ground and my fingers grasp his short hair. He was soft and warm, everywhere, and I knew that I'd never be content anywhere but in his arms.
Well, review on the fluff. The drama of New Moon begins in either the next chapter, or after that, not sure.
