Mostly a comic relief filler chapter, but it's Mr. Chubby Beak! Everyone loves Mr. Chubby Beak, right? He's a bit of a derp for shiny things, including glasses. Pretty eyes!
"I want you to go out and find the Lunatic. You don't have to bring her back to me, just make sure she's safe and report back to me. Maybe if you're lucky, she'll teach you how to murder things. She's good at that. Unlike you. Okay? Go, my little killers!"
Mr. Chubby Beak and his sisters flew out into the bright outside-place. Mommy wanted them to find the human. Mr. Chubby Beak hadn't exactly paid attention when they were supposed to be studying the human's face, so he just followed his sisters.
Eventually they found a trail through the yellow tasty grass. They followed it until they reached the human nests. Chubby Beak tilted his head at Marshmallow and Luna. He didn't know which human nest they were looking for. Did they?
"Which one?" Mr. Chubby Beak asked.
"Don't know. Check everywhere," Marshmallow replied. She and Luna flew off in different directions, leaving Mr. Chubby Beak alone.
Human nests were big, he decided, perching at a window. Window? That's what those things were called, right? It was weird, but so shiny! And he could see through it into the human nest inside. Ooh, there was a little human!
"Hi little human," he cawed, tapping the glass.
"A crow? What are you doing here, huh? Come to give me a bad omen or something? Nah, you're just a baby, aren't you?" The little human opened the window and reached out a hand. Chubby Beak hopped onto the hand and examined the human's face. His eyes were so big and shiny!
"Your eyes are pretty!"
"Are you looking for food? I think we have some leftover sandwiches. You're not picky, right?"
"Dib! Who are you talking to?" Another small human was yelling. She was sort of scary. Was she even a human? Mr. Chubby Beak was getting a weird feeling about her. But, since he hadn't actually met many humans, maybe that was normal?
"Just a fledgling crow, Gaz." The male human carried him to another part of the human nest and moved him from his hand to his shoulder, washed his hands, and held out a piece of bread and squishy nut stuff. "Here, it's peanut butter."
"Thank you little human!" He ate the nutty butter thing. It was delicious. "I like you, small human. I don't think you're the human who I'm supposed to be looking for, but you're nice and I like your shiny eyes." Mr. Chubby Beak nuzzled the human before winging back out the window to find his sisters.
"Did you find her?"
"Yeah, no thanks to you," Luna chirped. "Let's go home. Mommy's waiting."
