Chapter 14: Let the Problems Begin
I sat behind my desk, occasionally hearing a scratching sound coming from the door. I smiled, realizing that it was most likely students from the class signing up for one of the competitions. I glanced over the few papers that Calem and I had received, a little disappointed that not many students caught any new Pokémon. However, I was surprised to see that Draco had caught an Eevee during his time in the woods.
I looked up from the papers to watch the Lake Trio float around the office, trying to find places to hide that they may have missed. Finding nothing new, they floated over to me, pulling on my blouse.
"You wanna float around the castle?"
They gave cries of encouragement as I stood from my seat and slipped on the shoes I had under my desk. As soon as the door was open, the brothers quickly made their way toward the stairs.
'I've never seen them move so fast,' I thought and, not wanting to think about what it could mean, I ran after them.
My heart pounded as I raced up the moving staircases, nudging between students in order to reach the trio. 'Please don't let this be what I think it is,' I prayed.
The trio finally stopped a matter of feet away from Umbridge's classroom door. 'Of course it has to do with her,' I sighed.
A few feet past the trio, two Eevees were against the wall, and, of course, Umbridge was in front of them. But something wasn't right, the Eevee that was closest to the wall seemed injured, with the other standing in front of it in a defensive manner. I started to run over to them, pushing my way past students wondering the hall or watching to scene.
"Filthy animals," she spat, bringing her leg back.
I dove onto the ground, wrapping my arms around the small Pokémon. I felt Umbridge's pointed shoes collide with my ribs. I groaned, looking up at Umbridge with a glare. She was completely unfazed by what she had done.
"Professor," I heard two voices yell. None other than Draco and Hermione were pushing their way through the crowd of people now surrounding me and Umbridge. Hermione dropped to her knees, taking the smaller Eevee in her arms and keeping her close. Draco kneeled next to me along with his Snivy. Both were checking over the other Eevee. I gave a small smile when I noticed worry in Draco's eyes. 'He's growing,' I thought proudly.
"What do you think you're doing, Miss Bellamy," Umbridge's sickeningly sweet voice inquired, cutting through the tense silence.
"What am I doing," I repeated bitterly, standing up, "what the hell were you thinking?" I took a slow step forward, my blood reaching its boiling point, "you think you have any right to do that to a living creature?"
"It was going to attack me," she said sweetly, but there was no regret or anger in her voice.
I stepped closer to her my self-control slowly breaking. "Oh what, did it walk in front of you? I'm sorry your highness, I didn't realize that we couldn't be within a foot of you."
"I'm sorry Professor," Hermione said, looking at Umbridge with emotionless eyes, "she had wanted to play with Draco's Eevee and I lost track of them."
"Don't apologize to this toad, Hermione," I spat, looking Umbridge in the eyes, "she doesn't deserve it."
Umbridge looked at me indignantly, "excuse me, but my life was in danger."
"Oh please," I drawled, rolling my eyes, "there's very little that those two Eevees could have done to you. By the look of it, they can't be more than a level ten, and Draco and Hermione haven't had these two long enough to have really started training them."
"They're still filthy creatures that have no right to be in this school," Umbridge spat before turning to the Lake Trio that had floated over to me, "and neither do they."
I snapped, my self-control completely gone now. I felt my hand ball up as I wound up for a punch. My hand started to come forward, but another hand grabbed mine. I turned behind me to find Calem grabbing my hand, a cold look on his face directed at Umbridge. I heard footsteps in front of me, only to find the Weasley twins between Umbridge and I. I looked at the crowd around us and found that the vast majority of the students were from our class. The Gryffindor and Slytherin students were glaring at Umbridge, which almost made me smile over the fact that the two houses actually agreed on something. The Ravenclaw students were looking between Umbrudge and myself, waiting for something else to happen. The Hufflepuff students all wore shocked expressions. Calem slowly released my hand before joining the Weasley twins and, to my surprise, Neville and Luna stepped forward to join the wall in front of me.
"I would suggest you, Umbridge," Calem said coldly, "before you cross another line."
Umbridge shoved past the students, returning to her classroom and slamming the door behind her. I turned back toward Draco and Hermione, placing a hand on each of their shoulders. "Come to my office and I'll see what I have for these two. I can write you a pass to your next class."
The two nodded before standing with their Eevees wrapped in their arms. Calem, Hermione, Draco, the Lake Trio, and I made our way to the dungeons in silence. Opening the door to our office, the Lake Trio floated toward my desk before sitting on top of it. I followed them, sitting in my chair and looking through my drawers. I gathered various medicines for the Eevee duo. I worked in silence, Calem leaning against the wall near my desk. Draco and Hermione watched how I used the various medicines, before I handed some extras to the two trainers. "Just in case," I said quietly, writing passes for them. Draco and Hermione returned their Eevees, thanked me, and walked out of the office. Without even looking at Calem, I walked into my bedroom, the Trio right behind me.
During our next class, Umbridge decided to drop in for a visit. The students had asked for specifics on Pokémon moves and move sets, which Calem and I had no problem sharing the knowledge that we had on the topic. Umbridge, not even having the decency to knock, came barging into the classroom, clipboard in hand. Calem and I stopped our lecture as Umbridge made her way to the front of the class.
"Hello children," she said sweetly.
To say that the students occupying the room were unamused by her presence was an understatement. Their looks ranged from disgust to emotionless and everything in between.
"I'm looking for students to join my Inquisitorial Squad," Umbridge said sweetly, "it will be considered extra credit if any of you are interested."
"I'm sorry Umbridge, but I don't think that any of my students are interested in joining your little mafia."
"And would they not want to join my Inquisitorial Squad, Miss Bellamy?"
I leaned in so that my face was mere inches away from her face, "because my students actually have morals."
"What exactly are you insinuating, Miss Bellamy?"
"I'm insinuating that you don't have a soul," I said with a shrug, leaning away from her, "I thought that it was pretty obvious."
Umbridge huffed, making her way out of the classroom. Calem and I then finished our lecture and released the class.
'If she's gonna keep this up, I don't know how much longer I'm gonna last,' I thought, running a hand across my face.
I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter, even though Umbridge was a complete douche in this chapter. Poll results at this point and Teams are all on my profile. Dumbledore still doesn't have a type specialty or any Pokémon yet and a lot of the students still only have one Pokémon, so if you guys want to add your opinion on the matter, please PM me or let me know in your review! : ) Thank you for all of the support!
