The team walked through the glass doors of their headquarters, a little down trodden that their partner wasn't with them. They knew they had a huge job ahead of them and none of them wanted to disappoint each other. Danny was the heart of the team, the friend they all have relied on in the past to help when times were rough. They knew he needed them more then ever now, and no one was going to leave any stone or fleck of sand unturned. They walked through and were confronted with two people they would rather not see on these day of all days. Stood in front of them was the tall and imposing figure of Danny's ex wife Rachel. Sat on a nearby seat, Grace was playing with a small handheld games console. The three officers looked at each other and then at Rachel.
"Rachel?" Steve tried not to sound nervous or shocked. "What are you doing here?"
"I am trying to find Daniel. He is not answering his phone. He was due to pick Grace up from school so I have a few choice words for him, he..." She stopped talking when she noticed the looks on the faces in front of her. "Is something wrong? Where is Daniel?" Steve stepped forward and thought he could see tears in her eyes. He turned back to Kono and Chin.
"Why don't you take Grace and get some juice?" He suggested. Chin and Kono nodded and led the young girl away. Steve led Rachel into his office.
"Steve what is it?" Rachel asked, slowly sitting down. "Is he..."
"No, no." Steve knew Rachel's train of thought and didn't want to add to her forming tears. "Right now, we don't know where he is."
"What?"
"He was abducted from the hospital this morning." Steve said softly. He knew Rachel still had some feelings for Danny, despite the never ending battle of words and custody hearings.
"How? Why was he in hospital? Who would take him?" The tears started to run down her cheeks. Steve handed her a tissue from the box on his desk. She looked in shock and the colour started to drain from her face.
"We took him back to the hospital for his ribs, we were caught in an explosion at a scene this morning. While he was resting in hospital, some men grabbed him and we don't know why." Steve explained, knowing being honest was the best thing to do with Rachel, she was still Danny's family after all.
"Oh my god." She exclaimed. Her hands started to tremble and Steve reached out, cupping his hands around hers.
"We are not going to rest until he is back home. I promise you."
"How am I going to tell Grace?" She asked through her tears.
"Grace is just like her Dad. Strong and resilient. She will be okay and will be here ready and waiting with that smile of hers, when we bring her Danno home."
"The one fear I had when we were married was me having to tell my little girl her daddy was never coming home. I had in my mind what I was going to say to her I..."
"Hey Rachel, there is not a chance I am letting that happen. I have spent too much time and effort with him..." Steve smiled at her. Rachel forged a small smile, looking up to Steve.
"Any idea on who could have done this?"
"We have some possible leads. Someone planted the trap in the house we went to this morning and a car tried to run us down. We are just not sure who. Has Danny said anything about any problems he may have had?"
"No, was someone threatening him?" Rachel asked.
"We are not sure." Steve replied. "Being who we are, enemies can come from anywhere."
"What do we do now?"
"The team is working on it. You just need to be with Grace. As soon as we get any news we will let you know."
"I can't go..."
"I know you want to be here but you have a family to care for. Grace needs you." The two glanced over to the glass doors, looking out to the centre of the office. Grace was leaning over the centre console as Chin and Kono were showing her some fun graphics.
"Would you stay with me while I tell her?" Rachel asked him. The question shocked Steve. Rachel had always been so strong to Steve. He never thought of her as wanting his help.
"Absolutely." Steve reassured her.

Every time Danny closed his eyes he saw the beautiful smile of his gorgeous daughter. Right now, he wished he could just hold her hand, brush her hair, watch her play. He had faith that his friends would find him, but something deep down was tearing at him that he might not see his amazing little girl again. Danny knew he had to play this just right. He had no idea who these people were and what they might do to him. The one who Danny believed was in charge was pacing in front of him. The man had made one of his sidekicks pull out Danny's cellphone and now he was looking at it.
"Now she is one sweet little thing." The man said. Danny's stomach almost fell to the ground, he knew the man was looking at the pictures of Grace. He continued to flip through the personal photos on Danny's phone. "What is she, 9, 10?"
"She is 8." Danny replied.
"Well she is one sweet little girl. I wouldn't want you to miss seeing her grow up."
"Like you care." Danny replied. The man stopped and looked at Danny.
"Oh I care, I wouldn't want you and that sweet girl to suffer for McGarretts mistake." The man said. Danny looked at him with a surprised look on his face.
"What?" Danny asked him. The man reached over and grabbed a nearby chair pulling it closer to Danny. He placed it with the back to Danny, he straddled over it, leaning on the back of the chair.
"Your partner, friend is responsible for the loss of someone very close to me. He needs to understand the pain and anguish of losing someone close."
"You obviously don't know him that well then."
"I know all I need to know about him. About his lack of regard for the lives of people around him and for the love he feels for his friends, for you."
"You don't know him!" Danny raised his voice. "He cares for people, he saves lives. He has saved mine. How dare you imply he has no regard for people's lives."
"And does he think of the lives he takes when he shoots someone?"
"Its part of his job, our job. When people threaten the lives of others it is our job to act. That doesn't mean any of us disregards a life."
"So you think its okay just to shoot someone, run them over, chase them into the path of a car..."The man raised his voice but stopped himself when he saw the expression on Danny's face change. The detective had remembered something.
"That guy, Fowler? You knew him?" Danny asked. The man stood up, kicking the chair over as he did. It clattered to the ground, almost hitting Danny's leg.
"Knew him? He was my son!" The man yelled. "And that precious partner of yours killed him."
"It wasn't like that." Danny was almost pleading with the man, trying to calm him down from the rage he was slowly building into. "It was an accident. Accident's happen..."
"Accidents happen! Right!? I guess it was an accident he accused him of murder and chased him down like a criminal!"
"We only went to talk to him, ask him questions. Then he ran. It was an accident." Danny pleaded again.
"How do you know? Because your partner told you right? For all we know he pushed him in front of that car."
"Not a chance!" Danny called out. His captor hovered over him and in a spilt second grabbed Danny's hair and pulled his head back roughly. Danny winced as the pain shot through his extended neck.
"He killed him, and he is going to pay." The man snarled.
