Chapter 13: Joyful

Ridhhima is doing fine in hospital. The team reaches there to hear her side of the story as to why she sought Rajat's help. She informs the officers that she is the only heir to 100 crore worth property after her parents passed away and that someone wants to finish her off to inherit it.
"mujhe nahi pata sir ki aisa koi rishtedaar hai humara.. jo property k peeche pada hai. uss din haadse k waqt, aapne mujhe bachaaya. lekin aap nahi jaante ki meri dost meri waje se mari hai. meri waje se. mom dad humesha kehte the ki meri jaan ko khatra hai. koi hume maarna chahta hai. aur uss din bhi- unhe laga woh Riddhima hai, bichari Richa. isliye uske baad jab, hospital mei Rajat sir milne aaye tho maine unki madad maangi. *sobs* mujhe aisa nahi karna chahiye tha- khamokha unki jaan…"
Acp sir consoles her.
"yeh humari duty hai Riddhima, aur Rajat tho kya koi bhi officer yahi karta. apni jaan ki baazi lagaaleta… ab bas iss asli kaatil ko pakadna hai."
The team then makes her lie down as if she never came to her senses. Later that evening a man dressed as compounder tries to kill her by giving her an overdose of a drug.
"ab iss dawaai se tum upper.. aur saari jayezaat meri. Aur tumhare woh Rajat sir jayenge jail mei.. hahaha"
Before he could inject, the figure lying on bed (under the sheets) jumps. The man panics as he sees its not riddhima.
"mujhe upper tu kya bhejega? Tujhe main bhejunga… jail mei!"
"kaun- kaun ho tum?"
The man grabs a knife tries to throw it at the officer, but someone grabs him from behind.
"humare CID officer Vineet ko chaku marogey hei?"
Abhijeet turns the man around and slaps him. Its revealed that the team shifted ridhima to a safe place and the man is Riddhima's mamu who was assumed to be dead by her parents.
"un logon ne mujhe bohot takleef di. Ghar se bahar fek diya. Socha accident mei margaya. Lekin mai zinda tha. Aur main- maine unko hi maardiya! Unki beti ko bhi maar hi deta main-"
"sharm aani chahiye tumhe! Kaise maama ho tum?"
"ab jail mei planning karte rehna.. faasi ka order aane tak!"
And the case closes with ACP sir's trademark lines in the end. And all is well.

Night time-
Rajat is super glad to be out in the open. Being in custody was horrible, himself being a cop. The whole team is glad to have him back. ACP sir pats his back and hugs him.
"Rajat humne tumhe galat samjha. Lekin yeh tho meri aadat hai. uskeliye.."
"please sir! Please! Agar aap sorry bolenge tho muje bohot dard hoga, uss bezzati se bhi zyada.."
ACP sir nods giving his hand a light squeeze.
'aaj ACP sir ko bohot pyar aaraha hai..' Rajat smiles internally.
'pyar tho humesha hai, par dikhaate nahi..' he corrects himself in his head.
The team too greets him. Hugs n apologies follow. Everything is back to normal. Its then he spots her. She's looking at him with watery eyes, smile evident on her lips.
"arey bas sir! Ghar nahi jaana aapko? Mujhe tho bohot bhuk lagi hai, main tho chala bhai.."
Vineet reminds everyone to leave. And they all walk out.
"sir aap dono mere saat chahiye.."
Rajvi get into vineet's car and they drive off.
"meri gaadi comfortable tho hai? waise yeh dad ka car hai.. mera bhi aayega ek din. Uff- sir kya din tha aaj? Kitna kuch dekha humne.. aur aap thik tho hai na sir?"
"haan vineet main thik hu.. woh kehte hai na anth bhala tho sab bhala?"
"woh tho hai sir!"
They reach purvi's home first.
"lo aagaye pari k ghar.. sir aap log baat karte raho. Main abhi kuch zaruri shopping karke aata hu, saamne wali dukaan se. woh kya hai, kambhakt machhar bhi na, kaat-kaat k neend udaa dete hai raat ko.. ab aise main apne dream-girl se kaise milunga sapne mei?"
Rajvi laugh and watch vineet step into the shop. Rajat locks the car and steps out offering to drop her till her doorstep.
As they walk side by side, his hand finds its way to hold hers. She smiles n gives it a little squeeze assuring him she's always there no matter what! He smiles looking at her as they continue to walk.

They reach the elevator. He knows its time to part but just doesn't let go of her hand n pulls her towards himself a little. To his surprise she ends up in his arms hugging him. He hugs her back.
"aaj main bohot khush hu. Bohot khush ki sab thik hogaya. Aur aap mere saat hai.."
He smiles not knowing what to say. He's happy too to be with her.
"waise accha hua ki unhone khud aapko chod diya. Warna main.." (angry expression)
"warna tum kya?"
"warna main- main aap k liye kuch bhi kar sakti hu?"
"kuch bhi?" (teasing)
"haan kuch bhi. aur kisi se bhi lad sakti hu!"
"sure? ab bhi? kuch bhi kar sakti ho?"
"haan baba!"
"chalo fir kiss karo fataafat.." (points to his cheek)
She pauses a bit then smiles, before gently kissing him. He points to another.
"yaha?"
*kiss* (on his another cheek)
"yaha"
*kiss* (on his forehead)
"yaha" (points to his lips)
*smack* "shaitaan hogaye aap!"
"kya karein bigaad diya tumne mujhe!" (grins)
"hmm. Bohot bigad gaye aap. Ab jaayiye isse pehle ki koi aajaye. Aur mera Vinu bore hoke car mei sojaaye, jaayiye aap!"
"naaa.."
"haaann.."
"Purvi ithni jaldi?" *makes a puppy face*
"haan kyu ki its 11:30 pm. jaao aap.."
"thik hai. ek aur kiss mila tho sochunga iss bare mei.." (wicked smile)
"kya ? no hargiz nahi. jaao aap!"
"arey par"
"no. jaao.. thik hai. yahi so jaana huh. main jaari hu.. good nyt.."
She presses the elevator button. He looks away in disappointment when suddenly she kisses his cheek and runs to get into the elevator.
"bye sir good night!"
"good night!"
He returns the favour with a flying kiss n waves her bye. She turns pink at this, smiling slightly. He's sure would remember this shy smile of hers forever..

He walks back to join vineet who's almost dozing off.
"vinneet!"
No response.
"VINEET!"
"huh- kaun hai. accha hua sir aap aaye mujhe laga.. aap dono batein karte rahoge aur subah hojayegi.."
"vineet tum bhi na.. yeh bolo, gaadi chalaa sakte ho?"
"haa haa sir kyu nahi. Aise hi neend aagayi. Aapko nahi aarahi?"
"nahi.."
Rajat sits n they drive home. He smiles still not coming out of thoughts of her. Vineet mumbles something which Rajat doesn't even hear.
'kamaal hai. pyar mei neend udd jaati hai aisa sunaa. Aaj dekh bhi liya..'

That night 1am-
Rajat calls up purvi.
"hi purvi!"
"aap? aapko itni raat ko kya baat karni hai ji? hmm? Abhi kuch ghante pehle hi tho baat hui thi.."
Purvi is super happy to hear from him but tries to hide it n speak in a strict tone. But she fails…
"haan ji. Lekin woh kya hai na ji.. "
"kuch nahi ji.. so jaao ji.."
"waise aap bhi khush ho rahi hogi, mann-hi-mann ki maine phone kia?"
"ji nahi ji.. abhi main rakhti hu" (lying)
"arey suniye ji… woh gaana hai na ji. *sings* Abhi naa jaao chod kar, yeh dil abhi bharaa nahi..'
"aapka dil hai ji, ya Pankaj ka pet kabhi bharta hi nahi.." (laughs)
"ghatiya joke tha huh" (mock anger)
"joking sir. Accha hum kal bureau mei milte hai. Aap mera bahar wait karna. Hum ek-dusre k haat mei haat daalke andar jayenge. kitna sweet lagega na, aap aur main, holding hands.. hum made-for-each-other lagenge"
"sahi kaha.. accha lagega. Jab hum dono aise ek dusre ka haat pakadke darwaze se bureau mei challenge tho-"
"I know.." (smiles dreamily)
"aur fir usee darwaaze se ACP sir hum dono ko bahar bhejenge. Tab bhi haat pakadke chalogi?" (serious tone)
"Sir! Kuch bhi bolte ho! Main thodi na chipakne k liye keh rahi hu. Aap na bohot unromantic ho! hmpf" (angry tone)
"aur nahi tho kya? Naukri se nikaaldenge hume ACP sir!"
"aap mereliye itna nahi karsakte? Mera haat nahi pakad sakte?" (mock hurt)
"arey aisa mat kaho yar. Yeh kya har baat pe gussa? Samajhne ki koshish karo sweety.."
"accha ok baba. Ab good night. Sone do mujhe! mujhe bohot neend aarahi hai.."
'main tumhe bore kar raha hu kya?"
She smiles at his childish question.
"arey nahi sir. Mera tho bohot mann hai baat karne ki. Raat bhar karna chahti hu. Lekin uff yeh majboori-"
He smiles at this.
"accha? lekin main tho tumse roz baat karta hu raat bhar…"
"kya? kaise?"
He playfully answers this.
"tumhare sapne mei.. kyu? nahi mila kya tumhe waha..?"
Purvi smiles shyly at this.
"nahi tho. Kyu ki.. aap tho humesha mujhe meri nazron k saamne hi milte hai..'
She stares at the person sitting right across her. Great! now she sees him everywhere. She shoos off imaginary Rajat n smiles shaking her head and disconnects the call.
There Rajat too goes to sleep with a huge smile on his face.

Next day bureau-
Rajat is early to reach. It felt damn good to enter the building as a senior cop again. All other team members to his surprise are early too. Lovely… if only he found her-
"good morning sir.."
"good morning freddy. Hello sir.. hi everyone"
He greets Abhi, Daya, Sachin, Vineet, Shreya everyone. He keeps looking around for obvious reason.
"sir aaj.. Purvi nahi aayi hai sir.."
Freddy teases him.
"arey main woh aise h-"
Before Rajat can continue, Daya joins freddy.
"haa sahi hai freddy. Tabhi tho main soch raha hu. Chehre ki raunak kyu gayab hai tab se-"
"sir..aap log-"
"bhai manna padega. Tum tho bade chupa-rustum nikle yar. I mean sab kuch chup-chup k manage kar raha tha. Socha bhi nahi ki apne senior doston se kuch share karei-"
Abhijeet too steps in the scene. Rajat tries to explain.
"sir woh main- hum- main bataana… chahta tha sir. Socha ki doctor Tarika k birthday k din announce karenge.."
"accha ji. Ithna planning karliya aur CID koi ski khabar bhi nhi hui.."
"sir please!"
Vineet decides to save his BFF cum senior cop cum icon.
"waise sir.. purvi ne kaha ki aaj woh late aayegi. Usne kaha ki aapko bataadu.."
Rajat who's baffled by the teasing takes a minute to understand this.
"kya- oh.. thik hai!"
He tries to smile while freddy laughs.
"dekha sir! Kaisa chehra laal hogaya Rajat sir ka, purvi ka naam sunte hi.. haha!"
The teasing continues till ACP sir interrupts them. The convo begins again once acp sir goes into his cabin… this time teasing ends.
"sach mei sir. Hum sab bohot khush hai ki sab thik hai.." Shreya says.
"welcome back sir.." Nikhil hugs Rajat.
"iss khushi k mausam mei hume celebrate karna chahiye" freddy suggests.
"hume picnic pe jaana chahiye.." Abhi suggests.
"haan sir picnic thik hoga.."
ACP sir just then comes out of his cabin.
"picnic? Kise jaana hai bhai picnic? Freddy tumhe?"
Freddy stutters while other officers enjoy this.
"freddy yar, mujhe bhi jaana hai. in fact hum sab ko bhi jaana chahiye!"
The team erupts into smiles as ACP sir says this. Abhijeet hurrily leaves towards forensic lab mumbling something inaudible.
"Tarika ji ko bulaana hoga.."
And it's a joyful beginning all over again.
