No Matter What I'll Love You

Chapter 14 - Recovery

JJ was released from the hospital almost two months ago. And since then JJ worked very hard to recover so that when the baby is born everything to be behind her back. Every day is a step further in her recovery. There were bad days and good days. But the important thing was that the good days were more than the bad. Sometimes she worked too hard. And that is when she had a bad day. On that particular day she would realize that despite her hard work nothing can just disappear and suddenly to forget about it. But on this days Emily and Dr. Carter – JJ's therapist, would be there for her and remind her that she should give it more time and that the every progress she made, despite how small and how long it took her, is good. Emily would not stop saying that she loves her and she would never leave her. And that everyone around JJ loves her and would never give up on her, nor will they let her give up on herself.

JJ's parents have stayed for two weeks after JJ's release. They were a huge help with the start of JJ's recovery. No matter how old you are, you always will need your parents. Sandy and Nathan have taken upon themselves to help the girls with everything. Sandy took care of grocery shopping, cooking, laundry. Nathan made sure that the bills were paid on time. They just wanted the girls not to worry about these things. Especially when they found out that they are going to be grandparents. It was the first morning when everyone was home. JJ was coming down for breakfast, when Emily ran passed her to the bathroom. JJ immediately went to check up on her wife. After a few minutes they reappeared in the kitchen, but when they saw the worried looks on Sandy and Nathan faces they told them what was going on. This was the first time Emily saw JJ smile. Like a real smile, not the one that said: "Don't worry. I'm fine.", that JJ has given many times to Emily and the team when they were visiting her at the hospital.

After JJ's parents have left with a lot of reassuring from both JJ and Emily that they will take care of each other, will rest plenty, and if they need them not to hesitate to call them, JJ started seeing Dr. Carter. Even though she has agreed to that the first time Emily suggested it – which surprised her a lot – at first was hard for her to open up. Slowly, but JJ started to share about what she has survived. After the first "bad day" JJ had, Dr. Carter was the one who realized that JJ was pushing herself so hard only because she wanted to be in "perfect" state of mind when the baby comes on this world. While it is a good thing that you have a stimulus, have something to look forward for, in JJ's case it's a little different. She has to get better, not only for Emily, the baby, her family and friends, but and for herself. She has to do this for herself, not only so that she can please the others. After that was established JJ started to make more and more progress.

The team was a huge help for JJ. Their often visits were very good for both JJ and Emily. The team managed to take their minds of everything that have happened and just enjoy their time together. They would watch movies, sports; they went shopping with Penelope and even bought the first things for the baby. Rossi organized an amazing Italian dinner at his mansion. Last week the girls plus Derek and Spencer went for drinks for the first time after JJ's kidnapping. JJ was a little nervous the whole night, but Emily did not leave her side even for a second. It was a big step for JJ and everything went well. The girls' talks with Penelope have a positive influence on JJ. Garcia can make everyone laugh! Morgan was a big help for JJ. He was the one who made her understand that even though everything that have happened to her, it does not mean that they will stop loving her and respecting her. He pointed out that when the team found out Carl Buford nothing changed. On the contrary, everyone supported him and helped him move on.

Emily was next to JJ on every step of her recovery. There were a few times that JJ felt guilty that instead of her taking care of her pregnant wife it was the other way around. But the truth is that they both have been taking care of each other. JJ was on all of Emily's doctor appointments and vise versa. After JJ heard Dr. Robbins concerns about Emily high blood pressure, she made sure that Emily was resting plenty, eating healthy. Right now Emily is four months pregnant and just started to show. During these two months Emily was working from home. She was dealing with the paperwork and only needed to go to the BAU once or twice a week – to bring the done paperwork and get a new one. Now that JJ is coming back to work, she as well will return on full time. But for precaution she will not travel with the team. She will stay with Garcia at the BAU.

Two months after JJ's kidnapping, she was going back to work. Dr. Carter permitted JJ to return to her duties, but still not going on the field. JJ was still working on her nightmares and panic attacks, but even they were getting better. At least now the nightmares were not happening every night and were not as terrifying as the ones in the beginning. But she still sometimes found it difficult to fall asleep after one. And this night is no different. But as always Emily is there to help her.

At first Emily was not sure what have awoken her, but a few minutes later she heard her wife's cries.

"No! Please, stop." JJ cried out.

"Jennifer, sweetie, wake up." Emily leaned over JJ, who was with her back to her, and gently started to shake her.

JJ continued to mumble pleases to be left alone.

"Come on, sweetie. I'm here. I'm right here." Emily said.

"EMILY!" Suddenly JJ screamed.

She woke up and immediately turned to Emily, who welcomed her in her embrace. JJ let the tears and the sobs rack her body freely. All she knew was that she was safe in her wife's arms. Emily held her while she cried, comforting her the only way she knew how, stroking her hair and gently rubbing her back. When her sobs subsided, Emily softly whispered words of comfort, hoping to break the powerful hold of her nightmare. Emily pulled back to look at JJ. She didn't pull herself out of Emily's embrace, and she wouldn't look her in the eye.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Emily asked softly.

JJ wiped her eyes and nodded, "It was horrible. This time Sawyer was holding you. He was ra…" She visibly shook and Emily pulled her closer again. "He was hurting you." And JJ broke down again.

JJ shifted herself, forcing Emily to lie down, and snuggled up beside her, resting her head on her chest. Emily knew there was more than what she was telling her. She squeezed her to her chest a little tighter, offering her silent support.

"There was so much blood," JJ continued, her voice catching in her throat and her shaking increasing. "You were heavily pregnant and... And..." Еmily rubbed, small circles on JJ's back, easing her heaving sobs. "You were screaming for help, because you were losing the baby." She was hysterical now. Emily couldn't help it, but silent tears started running down her own face.

All Emily could do was to hold her tight, while she was crying. Like always, she let her cry, rant, scream, fight and shake. Emily softly started telling her that she was alright and safe, and that she wasn't going to let anything happen to her. After a while when they both have stopped crying Emily lifted JJ's head so that she can look her in the eyes.

"Jennifer, looked at me. I am alright. I promise you. And I'm here, always." Emily squeezed JJ slightly, on which JJ nodded. "I love you so much. No matter what, I'll always love you, Jennifer."

"I love you too, Emily, no matter what." JJ said and pulled herself up so that she can kiss her wife.

This was the first kiss after the kidnapping that JJ gave without thinking that she has to do it, so that she can please Emily. She just kissed her wife, because she truly loves her. The first kiss, which meant something.

Once again JJ laid her head on her wife's chest and spoke softly.

"Just this is the first nightmare in which you were the one that was… I would experience everything over and over again than to see you hurt as in the nightmare." JJ said.

"Shh, none of that. Everything is okay now." Emily soothed her.

The laid like that for a while just enjoying the warm temperature of their bodies. JJ put her hand on the little baby bump and started rubbing it.

"Hey, there little one. I'm sorry that I woke you up, but now everything is good. You can go back to sleep. Mommy loves you and can't wait to meet you." JJ spoke to the baby.

"You sure love talking to the baby. I hear you every morning when you think I'm still asleep. And every night you wish him goodnight." Emily stated.

"Well, what can I say? These are the best one-sided conversations I ever have." JJ said and both laughed.

"Are you still sure that you want to come back to work. You can take some more time off. No one will mind." Emily said.

"Yes, I am. For once I'm sure about something." JJ confirmed.

"Okay, just double-checking." Emily said.

"Anyway, I don't think I can stand anymore the overly protective momma bear." JJ teased her.

"Hey, you are terrible." Emily shook her head.

"Well, you said that you love me no matter what. Be careful for what you wish for." JJ continued.

"You better go to sleep, little devil." Emily said.

"Night. Love you, momma bear." JJ said.

"Love you, too, little devil." Emily replied.

Everything in the Jareau - Prentiss family was starting to get better. They were going to be just fine. And soon they will add a new member to their family who will bring them only joy and happiness.
