Hello, it's Lilith, and I've stalled yet again. Shame on me. Anyways, here's another chapter to keep this up for a little while longer. I've been having serious writer's block on how to do the final battle phase.
So, as usual, I don't own Valkyria Chronicles, but the OCs are mine.
Read my story, review, let me what you think, but flames are not allowed here.
William Tell
It took us about a week and a half for us to make preparations for the final battle against the Sable Eye, what with having to organize the equipment we have left and getting everyone motivated for the fight and Alonzo recovering from his injuries. Thankfully, for a boy only in his teen years, our sergeant had a lot of endurance underneath that meek body of his; he was well on his way to fighting another day, but he was still cautioned to be very careful out there or else he would possibly reopen his wounds or receive other forms of damage that would worsen his conditions. To be honest, I constantly worried about him considering how long and hard he fought against Scarlett Briggs before.
Speaking of which, when Isabella and I last visited him in the infirmary, Scarlett was the very person we spoke about. He described to us what it felt like fighting an opponent one-on-one, and what the mood of the scene was, and never left out what Scarlett said to him before engaging in combat with him; then, he went deeper into details about what her last words were, and what she had told him regarding how to destroy the Ragnagun. He had a guess that the reason Scarlett told him this is because she knew that the Sable Eye will be crushed sooner or later at the hands of the Militia, and that beneath her devotion hid a spark of doubt and concern for the mixed bloods that worked along with their leaders Genesis. Alonzo's explanation of the situation brought out a small amount of relief and grief to Isabella, but she did her best to keep her composure despite her own personal hellish despair over the kin she cared for so much. Even I am aware that we're in for the battle of our life and that all the lives of Europa are on the line. I can only hope that we will be able to stop Genesis from accomplishing his mad plans in time.
After the first battle
I don't have much time to write, but I will do my best to tell everything I can remember from the first strike.
It took us time to reach the three-way border between Gallia, the Federation, and the Empire; but when we got closer and closer, we could see that the Sable Eye was certainly preparing to go to war and awaiting the opportunity to raise the Ragnagun from its hiding place once and for all. However, something in the back of my head warned me that there might be a few soldiers among the enemy side that saw us coming and are making further preparations for the fight. Genesis was nowhere to be found, and that confounded me for a moment; but then I made a guess that he is probably below ground somewhere working out the old mechanics of the underground facility that housed the Darcsen weapon for a thousand years.
Once we know we're in a safe zone, Welkin gathered us together to map out the strategy on taking out the Ragnagun and the Sable Eye. He followed the knowledge that Alonzo gave out at the briefing, and once he explained what must be done to save the continent, many of the soldiers feel motivated to fight – and possibly die – for all of Gallia. We worked through the early mornings organizing all the weapons, tools, and supplies for each of our militia, and we prearranged a place of refuge for the base of operations once we march out into battle. Soon enough, we were on our way to face against one of the most dangerous enemies we have ever encountered since the Imperial invasion and the civil war. It bothers me that we are attacking people that we knew about up till now, but we have to do it because the soldiers we're facing mean harm on all mankind.
Once the morning light had fully risen from the sky, which was when the battle began. The infantry began to move, using not only their firearms but their own superhuman powers as well to hinder us. We had to work around the abilities of the mixed bloods, but with Isabella's foresight powers, we were able to learn what the weaker units intend to do to stop our advance. Add the fact that Alonzo is back on the field with us, and we know that we can do anything if we just pool our strengths together through our most difficult fight ever.
Throughout the entire first day, we had to deal with breaking through the defenses of the infantry and other troopers behind them; but in due time, though, we were able to push them back from their original positions and force the remnants to retreat while their comrades were being quickly gunned down without a word of warning. By the time twilight had reached the sky, we were able to steal the first line of defense from them and settle down the moment night had arrived; the Sable Eye had retreated to their second line of defense. There's no doubt that they're trying to protect the entrance to the underground chamber where the Ragnagun was being held. If Genesis is down there, then he's probably searching for the weapon by now.
