Chapter 14
Storytelling
"English."
Thoughts.
"Elvish." (Even if it's written in English.)
A/N: So, this chapter did not end up as a hope, but to the better, and I hope this is worth the waiting.
Disclaimer: This is a work of fanfiction so I own nothing except my OC. and the changes I am going do in the story. It turned out that I don't even own the name Nienna;;-;;
Nienna P.O.V.
I and Argon had walked back to the rest of the fellowship and Merilwen, and I was now standing before them, they looked at me, Merilwen whit hope in her eyes.
"I have made my choice. Merilwen, you are… not going to join us."
"What?!" She, Legolas and Gimli exclaimed in course.
"Why?" Merilwen said.
"Yes, why? She is a good fighter, lass. We can need her." Gimli said.
"She is the woman born of fire." Legolas said.
"And she is the last free moon elf, except from me." I said and that made everyone quite.
"You can't force me." Merilwen said and looked very pissed off.
"I do can. I am your queen. I am ordering you to stay in Lothlórien until the day that the rings is destroyed, and I or my brother return."
"And if you do not return? What then?" She snapped. I took a deep breath still not sure if this was the best thing to do.
"I, Nienna Súrion the queen of the moon elves, I front of these witnesses declare you, Merilwen heir to the throne, in case of mine or Calanons' deaths."
everyone was quiet, you could probably heard a needle fall. I heard footsteps behind me.
"Lady Nienna, I wish to speak with you in private." The lady of the light said.
We got to her talan and sat down in separate chairs.
"What did you wish to tell me, milady?" I asked and looked at her.
"I wanted to tell you not to have Merilwen as you heir." She said.
"Why is that?" I asked, but I already knew the answer.
"That is not the reason why I don't want Merilwen to be your heir." She said and ro. She walked over to a bookshelf and took out an old looking book. The tittle was.
"Fae!" I exclaimed. "Was she not the youngest of the children, had the greatest and most terrible powers of them all? But, what Merilwen has to do with her?"
"Read and find out. You will have more than enough time to both read it and reconsider your dissection." The lady said and gave me the book. I looked at it before I gave it back to her.
"I cannot reconsider it, I said it in the rule as the queen." Her eyes flashed by anger before she got back to the neutrality of the elves.
"You should read it anyway. It could be useful." The lady said with annoyances still colored her voice. I quickly rose and left her tallan. I had gotten at the bottom and I walked on the path to the talan I the rest of the fellowship was staying in when Arya came running towards me.
"Milady, the lady of the light has informed me that you are going to make a portrait, and you needs to go to the seamstress and fix your dress." Arya said and pulled my arm so that I could fallow her.
"I am not doing to do it, yes I am a queen, but not a real one. I just have the tittle but I don't have any people to rule over." I said and jerked my arm from her grip. She stared at my back, when I walked away and back to the fellowship.
When I got I saw that no one was there. Good, then I can read in peace. I sat down by the edge of the platform opened the book and started to read about Fae.
I was cut up in my book and didn't realize until a hand placed itself in front of my eyes. I looked up and saw Pippin looking at me.
"Oh, hello Pippin." I said and closed the book. He looked at the tittle and frowned.
"Fae, what does that means?" He asked.
"It means 'sprit' in Sindarin." Frodo said. "Am I right?"
"Indeed you are." I said and closed the book.
"Wasn't Fae on of The Five?" Merilwen asked. I Nodded.
"What do you know about our globe of light?" I asked Merilwen.
"It contains out light and nothing more." She said.
"Will you hear the story about how we got our light and powers?" I asked.
"You know I will." Merilwen said.
"The five was the children of Adarlae and Melda, the first Moon elves. There was only four in the beginning, and their children were Ceven, Gwelu, Hûr, Nend, Water, Earth, Fire and water. They was cold, calculating and a little evil, they tried to do anything to be the heir to the throne of their parents. Time pasted and Fae was born. Fae was different from her elder brothers and sisters, she was not evil or cold, she was good and she had a light the others were missing. Her power was spirit, she could give life to things that was almost dead, she could talk to animals and with big effort she could control men and elves, and that mad her dangerous."
I took a deep breath, to see if anyone had a question. No one had so I continued.
"But there was a backside of her powers, when she gets angry she lost the control over her powers, and animals or men got hurt or in rear cases died." Once again I took a break when I saw Merilwen sit beside the hobbits. I took one deep breath and continued.
"Time passed and Fae learn to control her powers and when other elves can to visit the moon elves on their island Fae fell in love with one of them. But she was not the only one Nend did to, in the same ellon. The ellon chose Fae, Nend in her moments of envy told the ellon what Fae was capable to do and the feelings her had towards her was you the work of her powers. The ellon angry and terrified fled from the island, only leaving a letter. When Fae found the letter her heart broke, she somehow knew this had been the work of Nend. She did the only thing she could think of."
"Did Fae kill Nend?" Pippin asked.
"No she did not, she did not have the heart to kill her sister, even after what she did."
"Why? Nend had taken away the person she loved." Pippin asked again.
"I will tell you Pippin, Fae did not kill Nend because Fae love her sister."
"Even after what she did?"
"Even after what she had done."
"What…" Merry cover Pippins' mouth.
"She did not kill her sister, she did something that was going to hurt even more. So the same night when everyone was asleep, Fae took Nend's hunting dagger ran away to a cave and took her own life. "
"Why? How could that hurt even more?" Pippin asked.
"Because Fae knew that Nend and her siblings deep inside love her and each other."
"What happened when they found Fae body?" Sam asked.
"It was her parents that had gone to search for her, and when they got of the cave they did not found a body. Instead they found the cave full of small balls of lights. They found the dagger, a letter and four wooden pedants. What the letter said, no one but Adarlae and Melda knows. Adarlae and Melda walked back to the house they lived in got the rest of their children, gave them one pedant each and showed them the cave. The moment they entered the cave four of the light balls flue to each child and into the pedants."
"What happened then?" Frodo asked.
"I think I know." Merilwen said. "The light in the pedants made their eyes glow and so that they instead of being cold and calculating, they got warm and caring and knew for the mistakes they had made, especially Nend."
"Yes, that happened."
"How did Fae's sibling die?" Merry asked.
"In the same cave as their little sister, and moments after their hearts had stopped beat, their bodies disappeared into the light balls that held their powers." I said.
"And when a moon elf's life is soon getting to an end they can chose if they want to die in the cave or not." Merilwen said. I nodded.
"And when a moon elf are born someone brings the elfling to the cave with a pedant so that he or she can get the light from a previous moon elf."
"I didn't know that!" Merilwen said.
"Can I ask something?" Sam asked unsurely. I nodded. "How can you that an elf is a moon elf?"
"We are a little different…"
"Nienna means that an elf with the power to control an element looks a little different from an elf with spiritual powers." Merilwen said.
"But we all are born with white hair and grey or blue eyes and in rear cases violet. When an elfling gets their globe of light, the hair and eye color can change. Depends it they gets an elemental or spiritual power." I said.
"If an elf gets a spiritual power, the hair stays white and the eye color stays the same. If an elf gets an elemental power the hair or eye color chance. If one gets fire as the power, the hair color chances between golden blonde to red and the eyes chance to a golden color. If one gets earth the hair changes into a brown color and the eyes brown or green. If one gets air the hair can change in to gray color or it stays white and the eyes usually turns grey. If one gets water the eyes turns in a blue color and the hair stays white."
"Nienna, how did your parents look like?"
"Well, my mother was born in Rivendell and she had light brown hair and her eyes was green and honey colored. Before she wed my father her eyes had just been green." I said.
"Why did they change?" Merry asked.
"It's too complicated, I barely understand it." I said in hope that they would not ask more.
"And how did your father look like?" Pippin asked to my relief.
"My father had Snow-with hair and purple eyes, and my twin brother had golden blond hair and honey colored eyes." The hobbits nodded and Merilwen cleared her through.
"Nienna, I have thought about what you have been saying about me stay here, and I have accepted your decision. I have too decided to help you with the elemental training. I need to train with it and I think you need too." Merilwen said.
"That is good Merilwen, I am glad that you have accepted it." I said, she smiled, I noticed that the smile did not reach her eyes.
Merilwen P.O.V.
Fool, you just gave me the perfect opportunity. The perfect opportunity to… I cut the thought of there. Don't think about it, hold your façade of goodness up. I had to be careful with my thought while I am in Lothlórien so that the lady not stops me.
I and Nienna had walked back to the training grounds.
"How good is your fire controlling?" I asked her.
"I have not used it so much." She answered. Oh, hate that 'nice' speaking.
"Then I suggest that we begin with the element of fire."
I explained to her that fires fuel was the air, and that it came from the breathing. She wasn't so good at it. Good, a weakness. Her connection with fire is not good. I taught Nienna the bases and what to think for when one used fire. I noticed that Nienna got more and more frustrate as time passed. After a while she got pissed off, she screamed and slammed to big rock together so hard that they broke in to many small pieces.
"I think we should do something else." I said and looked at the sky. "It's supper soon, so how about we eat something, awaits the darkness and see how good we both are to fight in the darkness."
"That is a really good idea." Nienna said and walked over to me.
We walked over to the tallan where everyone was eating. We meet the rest of the fellowship. Peregrin saw us, smiled and waved at us. I grabbed Niennas' hand and dragged her over to the fellowship. When got over to the table I dropped her wrist and sat down beside Legolas and Nienna beside Peregrin. We eat and talked about only Fae knows what. I talked to Legolas about what I could remember of my homelands and him about Mirkwood. I noticed that he didn't really look at me when we talk, it looked like he looked at Nienna. It was something in his gaze that told me that Legolas was in love. That's too good to know.
When everyone was done eating Nienna and I dictated that we'll meet each other 3 hours from now and we walked our separate paths. I walked to the most crowded place I could find so that I could think without the lady listen to them. I thought about how I could get out from Lothlórien. Hum, sneak out? No, that's stupid. I have to sneak around and eavesdrop and see if I can catch something that might help m. But I could try to keep the plan that I am willingly to learn how to fight. I keep play that I am bad, because since I have not fought in years. And if I or someone get to leave Lothlórien going to a great battle I can do my fighting better and then I can join the leaving elves. That sounds like a good plan in the absence of information. I looked up in the sky and saw that time had passed faster that I wanted to. If I didn't walk know I was going to be late. I walked to my talan and got my to daggers and hid them, then I took my leave.
When I got the training grounds, a little late, I didn't see anyone. I looked around, but I didn't see nor hear Nienna. I was about to call her name when something hard hit my between my shoulders. I spun around and saw an arrow with a white bundle in the tip. They I heard sound from one of the bushes and Nienna aped from it. She had another arrow notched on it, but this time it was a pointy one.
"So Merilwen what are you up to?" She asked darkly and aimed the arrow between my brows.
"I am not planning anything, my queen." I said innocently.
"I know that you are planning something that is going to let you gain power." She said and walked a little closer. "I know that it was you that killed rhîw."
"You don't have any prof." I said and moved my hands towards my daggers.
"I know something that you don't." She said and started to smirk. I glared at her and took out my daggers.
"If you knew, why make me your heir?"
"That was the only way I could think of that forced you to stay here." She said. It looked like she starred at me and I saw that her eyes had become very dark. I felt fear built up in my stomach.
"Nienna, you are not yourself, put down the bow. I said tried to reason with her. Lady, something is terribly wrong with Nienna and I need some help! NOW! I thought to the lady in hope that she heard me. I started to back away from Nienna and her bow. I looked at the fingers that held the arrow in place and saw her relax them a little. I ducked just in time to avoid the arrow Nienna released. I heard the arrow hit a three as Nienna notched a new arrow, she smiled darkly. She was about to release the arrow when I heard the sound of elves running towards us. And right behind Nienna was Legolas, he was sneaking as quiet as he could, I quickly darted my eyes back to Nienna and her bow. She had aimed at me again where I was sitting, when her whole body got limp and she fell into Legolas arms. When I saw the bow lay on the ground I realized that I was not going to die, and with that realization the tears came. I'm alive, I am not going to die. I started to sob and I felt someone lay his arms around me.
"It's over now Merilwen, you are in safety now." Haldir said softly to me. "Legolas, take Nienna to the Lady." I looked at Legolas as he picked Nienna up and left me with Haldir. "Merilwen, what happened?" He asked. I took a deep breath to calm myself and told what happened.
A/N: Well, here is the chapter. I hope you folks like it. I really want do guys to tell me what you think, you like how the story goes? Is it confusing?
