Hello dear readers. Today we branch away from the original storyline. Today, and for the next few chapters, we glimpse into the past of... Leif!

"Leif….. Leif, babe, it's time to get up." I groaned softly at the gentle voice. There was a soft giggle from the warm body beside me in the bed, her tail softly draped over my hip. I opened my eyes and smiled at the beautiful young lucario I was so lucky to call my mate. I smiled softly as I nuzzled her, then pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek. She giggled once more in response. "It's about time you got up, we'll be lucky to get breakfast now."

"Hmmm…. Sorry love. You know I sleep like a rock when you're here to cuddle." I laughed out. She smiled that little smile of hers. Oh Arceus how that smile made my heart flutter. I pulled her into another gentle kiss, pulling her onto my lap as our tongues danced in her mouth. As we pulled apart, she nuzzled into my cheek with a soft humming in her throat.

"We'd better move, don't wanna piss Alakazam off…again…" She giggled out. I nodded my agreement; we had an assignment in the Focus Valley today. It was important that we get this done on time, lest the client get injured. Some goofball machoke had gone and gotten stuck in a valley full of psychics. It made me want to laugh. We rose out of bed gently and started to pack for the trip. Our teammate, a blaziken named Charlie, picked that moment to wake up.

She stretched out, the flames of her wrists flaring up briefly as she yawned. You'd think a fire/fighting type would be more energetic, but not Charlie. She was probably the laziest damn blaziken I've ever met. Still, she was a great fighter and a better friend, and the federation would feel pretty damn empty without her. As we finished packing, she slung her already prepped bag onto her back, obviously pumped at the prospect of work. We hadn't had an assignment in weeks due to a few injuries we'd gotten. Nothing serious, but it was enough to keep us off our feet for a while.

We decided we'd start out after a quick walk around town, make sure we were fully prepared and all. As we came to the market, we saw one of our friends, a flareon named Allen, shopping with his little brother. I smiled, going up to the two and kneeling in front of the eevee.

"Hey Max, happy birthday" I greeted cheerfully. As usual, Max hoped up onto me, climbing into my mane like a zorua would. That kid, I loved him like my own little brother, who had passed in the same fire that took my parents a few years back.

"Thanks leif!" he cheered, then grinned mischeviously. "So, what'd ya get me, huh?" I smiled wider, setting him back down and grabbing my pack. A little digging later, I found what I was looking for.

"Here." I said quietly, tying a red, silk scarf around his neck. He looked at it a little disappointedly.

"Um…leif….why'd ya give me a scarf?" He whined. I frowned, then sighed softly.

"It was mine…. I used to wear it all the time after I first joined the federation." I turned it so her could see the design of Azelf imprinted on it. "Azelf represents the willpower to do what's truly important. I was gonna give it to my little brother when he reached your age but…." I trailed off at the painful memory. The wound was still fresh.

"Oh…" he said quietly, then smile with determination. "In that case, I'll cherish it always, and make sure nothing ever happens to it." I couldn't help but smile t that. The boy would be a great addition to the federation some day. As the brothers walked away, we left town. We were ready for anything Focus Valley could throw at us…. Or so we thought.

so, are you all excited to see what happened to Leif to make him the way he is? Well you'll just have to wait :3
