KIRSTY'S P.O.V.

Lying on the bed in Cubicle Three, staring at the curtain, twiddling my fingers in frustration, I was more than worrying, I was in panicking. In Adam's car, on the way to the ED yesterday, I'd passed out, mainly from my injuries but also from sheer stress. Having awoken when the clock read '04.32', the only thing that had been on my mind since, was Nita. Adam had taken a double-shift to keep an eye on me during the day. He had forbidden me from leaving the cubicle, let alone the hospital and with his personal 5 minute obs on me, I thought I had no chance of making an escape.

My injuries hadn't even crossed my mind. The pain didn't bother me. Adam had informed me that Warren had been taken to St James', but I didn't care. All I wanted was to know where my daughter was. The thought of her running away was one thing but I couldn't even stand the thought that she'd spent the night alone anywhere other than home. I assumed that if she was staying with a friend, I'd have at least had a phone call from their parents. But nothing. Nothing but unbearable thoughts and an empty feeling in the pit of my stomach.

Adam claimed that he had informed the police and that they were searching, but in my mind, in a mother's mind, that wasn't good enough. I needed to know that my baby was safe, she was just a child. Who knows where she could find herself or what could happen to her?

I glanced at my watch. It had been twenty minutes since Adam's last check on me: perhaps he was dealing with an emergency. I knew he must have been busy with something and without hesitation, I discharged myself and dressed swiftly. Peering around the curtain to check that he was nowhere in sight, slipped out of the cubicle and through the ED unseen, taking a detour on the way to the car park.

Adam's office was empty. I was thankful; if he'd been inside I'd have been utterly busted. I felt like a criminal again, taking his car keys but if I wanted any chance of finding Nita before the sun set again, I couldn't just walk everywhere. Now that I had what I needed, I made my way to the car being careful to avoid spotted by Zoe, who was deep in conversation with Dixie and Jeff out by the ambulances.

In the car, as I pulled out, Adam's face suddenly appeared in my rear view mirror. The look on his face was a mixture of relief, shock and worry. What he was relieved about, I wasn't sure. But I wasn't going to hang around to be lectured about my injuries… and probably my sanity.

ADAM'S P.O.V.

I knew that I couldn't possibly understand what she was going through, but I forbid her from leaving her cubicle in the hope that for once in her life she would listen to me. I knew how much she was panicking, I was too, I didn't want to think of Nita alone and in danger, but by leaving the hospital, Kirsty would have been putting herself in danger too. She was too weak.

My checking on her every five minutes seemed to have kept her from wondering but at about noon, my phone rang, and the phone call kept me preoccupied for at least half an hour. It was the phone call I had been waiting for all night. On my way to tell Kirsty the news, I wasn't sure whether it was good or bad but it didn't matter because upon reaching her cubicle, I found an empty bed and not a single trace of her. You just couldn't trust Kirsty to keep her word. She'd promised that she'd stay in bed.

I knew she would have left the hospital but in her state, she couldn't have gotten far without being spotted in twenty minutes. I thought she must have been walking and I figured she'd be going home first. I ran blindly through the department, down the stairs to the east car park. That's when I saw my car reversing and that's when it occurred to me how stupid I had been to assume Kirsty use her common sense. She didn't have a car but she had mine and she was too ill to drive but she didn't care.

"Kirsty! Wait!" I yelled as I sprinted towards the car. I knew she wouldn't listen, if she could even hear me.

I brought my fist down on the boot of the car with impatience as she stopped momentarily and changed gear. But before I was able to open the door, she drove away, avoiding eye contact but she knew I was there.

"They found her." I whispered as I watched her go, clenching my fists in my hair and literally growling under my breath. How was I supposed to know how to find her?
