Chapter 14: Artificial Heart: One Day
Disclaimer: I do not own Total Drama or Danganronpa.
I made a mistake with one of the rooms which no one noticed. The third room is now called the dining room not the dining hall. Dining hall refers to the place where the students eat on the first floor :)
Hopefully it's not too confusing!
There might be a few mistakes since I did this all on my phone on Pages, but i looked it over and it looks fine. Please tell me if there are any mistakes. :)
Noah slowly opened his eyes finding himself underneath the familiar ceiling of his room. He got up and looked around his room, feeling the same amount of oppression he had been feeling for the week and half he had been stuck in the school. He sighed and quickly grabbed a book from his shelf and tucked it under his arm. Walking over to his door, he extended out his arm to the doorknob intending to open it, but froze when he heard a sudden knocking coming from the other side.
"Noah?" Dawn's desperate voice echoed from outside. "I need your help."
Noah opened the door and stared into Dawn's face. "What?" he asked, coolly. "In case you couldn't tell I'm busy-"
"It's Lindsay," Dawn interrupted. "She's gone missing."
Noah rolled his eyes. "Check her room?" he suggested, not one to go on a pointless search for someone.
"Already checked," she said, impatiently.
Noah grimaced, and action that didn't go unnoticed by Dawn. "Please," she begged. "I'm afraid. What if someone's killed her?"
That sparked Noah's attention. "I guess you're right," he grudgingly admitted. "Where should we look?"
Dawn immediately brightened, which didn't help Noah feel any more happier. "I already have Izzy looking through the rest of the dorms and Brick and Sam to help look through the rest of the first floor."
"So that leaves us with the..." Noah thought for a moment. "The second floor?"
Dawn nodded. "I'm pretty sure she's not going to be in the weight room and dance room because..." She hesitated. "Of what happened with Sierra and Cody."
Noah frowned. "So all we have to check are the three new rooms and the medical center," he muttered.
Xxx
He and Dawn walked up the stairs to the second floor of the school. Looking around, there was nobody around. "Where is everyone?" Noah wondered aloud.
"Probably hiding in their rooms," Dawn pointed out. "Pretty sure everyone's a little troubled by what Monokuma gave us yesterday."
Noah rolls his eyes. "Try a lot." Yesterday after the meal, everyone had been shaking in their shoes aside from a couple of people. Noah guessed that most of them hadn't been able to sleep. "Getting your darkest secret revealed is a big deal."
"But if we just tell each other them then, isn't it possible that-?" Dawn started to ask, before Noah cut her off.
"No," he said. "I doubt anyone's going to share something like that. Even if it's to avoid killing someone."
Dawn pursued her lips. "Do you mind if I ask what yours was?"
"So what room do you want to check?" Noah said, hastily changing the subject.
Dawn glanced over at the medical center. "I'll check there first," she offered, before glaring at Noah. "But don't think this discussion is over." She walked into the room.
Sighing, Noah went over to the extravagant doors of the locked dining room and found them locked. He pulled at the handles, forcefully.
"Hey, hey, hey!" Monokuma jumped out of nowhere, startling Noah. "What are you doing?"
"Ah!" Noah jumped back, before composing himself. "What the hell?"
"That should be my question!" Monokuma extracted his claws. "Why were you trying to break the doors?!"
"I wasn't trying to-!" Noah tried to protest.
"Shut it!" snapped Monokuma. "I don't need all your stupid hormone excuses. It's pretty obvious why you wanted to get in there." Monokuma suddenly turned red and placed his hands over his heart. "You wanted some time for you and your girlfriend to be alone."
"What-?" Noah said in surprise.
"Don't try and hide it!" Monokuma growled. "Because of your indecency, I feel like its important to make a new rule!"
Noah blinked. "New rule...?"
The bear nodded erratically. "I'm pretty sure you're all beary excited for it." He looked expectantly at Noah. "How was that for a joke?!"
"Great," Noah said sarcastically. "Now about this new rule..."
"I'm getting on that! Sheesh!" Monokuma disappeared. Just a few seconds after his disappearance, Monokuma turned on the intercom and said, "Because of a certain someone I've decided to add another rule into the rule book. Please check your IDphones for confirmation. That is all." The intercom shut off.
Noah felt his IDphone vibrate and he took it out, before opening to the rulebook. "Rule number 12," he read. "This rule states that no student may break into a locked door." He glanced at the dining hall doors. "I'm guessing Lindsay's not in there..."
Noah turned around and looked at the other two rooms, debating which one to go into. After a few seconds of debate, he walked into the art room. Looking around, he noticed that Lindsay was no where to be found. He shrugged, and went over to the door that led to the back room and tried to open it. He blinked. "Wait..." He tried to open the door again but it was locked.
"The key..." Noah looked around but couldn't find the object anywhere. His eyes landed on a plain white sheet on the ground. He stared at it for a few seconds before kneeling down.!he extended his hand, ready to pick up the sheet and check what was beneath it.
"Noah." Noah froze and quickly turned around to see Scoff looking at him in confusion. "What are you doing?" The farm boy asked.
Noah stood back up and patted the dirt away from his clothes. "N-nothing," he stammered. "What do you want?"
Scott frowned. "Dawn asked me to come and get you." He jabbed his thumb at the door. "She found Lindsay."
Xxx
Lindsay was sitting in a corner hugging her knees. She was staring blankly at the floor not even acknowledging Dawn, who was next to her speaking softly.
"What's going on?" Noah asked, whispering his question to Scott.
Scott held his arms up in defense. "Sorry," he apologized. "But I don't know what the hell is wrong with her."
Dawn noticed the two of them and came up. "Good you came," she said, relived. She looked at Lindsay with worry in her eyes. "I can't seem to snap her out of... whatever she's got."
"And what makes you think I can help?" Noah pointed out dryly, giving Lindsay a wary glance.
Dawn glared at Noah. "You helped me out that time," she reminded. "I just thought..." She faltered.
Scott nudged Noah. "My pa always told me that you should always help a lady," he hissed. "I think you should help her."
Noah raised an eyebrow. "When did you get so nice? Weren't you technically the bad guy in season 4?"
Scott just shrugged in response.
Groaning, Noah walked over to Lindsay and knelt down so he could be face to face with her. "Hey..." he greeted, unsure of what to say next.
Lindsay didn't respond.
Noah sighed. "Listen... Is there something wrong? I'd be happy to he-"
Lindsay started to cry, with the tears falling into her lap. "I miss Tyler...!" She sobbed.
"I've already asked her that," Dawn said. "I don't know who Tyler is..."
"Tyler is..." Noah thought a moment before it clicked. "is Lindsay boyfriends," he finished.
"I miss him," sobbed Lindsay. "I-I wish he was here!"
"Tyler..." Scott frowned. "Wasn't he that clumsy guy who always got injured or something?" He winced when Lindsay's sobs grew louder. "Sorry."
"He's not here," Noah said, bluntly. "You have to deal with that." He hesitated before speaking again. "But if you don't get out of here then you'll never see him again. Think about that." Noah got up after those words. He looked back to see that Lindsay hadn't moved at all. He went up to Dawn and Scott and shrugged. "I tried."
"What-?" Dawn placed her arms at her hips. "You didn't try!"
Noah shrugged again. "Sorry," he apologized. "I think she just needs some time by herself."
"But she misses her boyfriend!" Dawn argued. "You could've said something more."
"It's not that easy," Noah protested. He gazed sadly at Lindsay. "I'm pretty sure she's completely lost it. Tyler may be a factor in her problems but she can't stand being stuck in the school."
"But-" Dawn looked like she was ready to argue some more, but just sighed. "Fine. I'll be downstairs if you need me," she walked away, her hands hanging limply at her sides.
Noah glanced at Scott, who was awkwardly looking between them. "Thanks," he said.
"No problem." The farm boy shivered. "It's been torture with Courtney. She thinks she's going to be some big thing!" He gave a short laugh, before seeing Noah's confused face. "She's in her room," he explained.
"Oh." Noah suddenly felt a lot tired and he yawned. "Sorry, but I think I'm going to go to my room."
Scott shrugged. "It's fine," he said. "I have some stuff of my own to do."
Noah nodded and walked down the stairs.
Xxx
Noah walked into the dining hall to find Gwen and Dawn, deep in conversation. They noticed him, and stamped over. "Noah," they both said at the same time.
He took a step back and raised his hands in defense. "What?!"
"Did you lose something too?" they asked at the same time, pushing their faces closer to Noah, to the point where Noah had to lean backward.
"No," Noah quickly answered. "I haven't lost anything-My book!" he realized. He glanced around. "I must've left it in one of the other rooms!"
"So you didn't lose it?" Gwen asked, apprehensively.
"I guess not, but I'm not sure..." Noah narrowed his eyes at the both of them. "Did you lose something?"
Dawn nodded. "I lost..." She blushed and hesitated, before muttering her next words. "The rose you gave me."
Gwen looked between the two. "Did something happen between you?" she asked, with a raised eyebrow.
"No!" Noah protested thinking back to the incident. His face reddened when he remembered what had happened. "Nothing!" he repeated.
"It was nothing," assured Dawn, with a forced smile. "He just helped me through something I was having a problem with."
Gwen still looked suspicious. "You know it wouldn't be surprising for the two people, who aren't part of the overall group, to hookup." She giggled at their flustered faces. "I'm just kidding." She got serious all of a sudden. "Maybe we should ask Monokuma if he's seen our stuff."
"You called?" Monokuma popped up.
"Good." Gwen turned to the bear. "We've lost some stuff. Do you know where they are?"
Monokuma was silent for a second before saying, "LOL."
Gwen frowned. "Excuse me?"
"LOL," Monokuma repeated.
"Maybe he's broken," suggested Noah, staring at their headmaster with wary eyes.
"D:, Monokuma stood still.
"Huh?" Dawn gazed at the bear. "I think you're right, Noah..."
"No I'm not!" Monokuma finally screamed, raising his paws over his head. "I was trying to appease your teenage personalities, by saying all those fancy words and emoticons." He turned around his shoulda slumping from despair. "And here I thought you guys would finally start to relate to me..."
"We asked a question," Gwen said impatiently.
Monokuma turned back around with surprising speed. "I don't know where you're things are. Stop being lazy and look for them yourselves!" He disappeared.
Noah yawned. "Well that's that," he said.
"If he doesn't know where they are, then..." Dawn looked worried.
"Don't worry," Noah said. "It'll pop up eventually." He yawned, again. "Anyway, I'm tired. These past few days have been really tiring."
"I'm going to look some more," Gwen said. "I don't think we should let this matter rest."
Noah frowned. "What makes you say that?"
Gwen grimaced. "A feeling."
"Well sorry but I'm tired." He raised a hand. "Bye."
"Good night..." Dawn said.
Noah nodded and walked out of the hall only to stop in front of the bathhouse. Hesitating for a moment, he walked in and, after making sure no one was around, he grabbed Alter Gwen and eagerly opened it.
The laptop slowly turned on, with its screen slowly flickering. Alter Gwen appeared, smiling that contrasted to how Gwen usually was. "Hello!" she greeted.
Noah began to type in chat. "Hello," he typed. "Can you tell me if you found anything else about me?"
Alter Gwen's smile quickly dropped and she shook her head. "No," she answered. "Unfortunately all that I could find about you so far is the picture." She suddenly looked determined. "Of course I haven't stopped searching!"
Noah let his fingers rest on the keyboard before he started to type again. "How about Dawn? Anything on her?"
Alter Gwen took a while to answer, but when it did it changed nothing. "No."
Sighing, Noah thanked the computer program and slid her into the locker. He walked away and into his room. Collapsing on his bed, he felt sleep overtake him and soon he was completely asleep.
Xxx
Noah woke up to a fist banging on the other side of his door. Groaning he got up and opened the door, to find DJ standing there. "What?" Noah asked, sounding annoyed.
DJ glanced carefully at the camera in Noah's room.
"Hey, you want to take a bath?" asked DJ, hopefully. "The bathhouse is open and most of the guys are already there."
Noah blinked his eyes tiredly. "Why would I come?" He yawned. "I'm not interested at all."
DJ leaned in uncomfortably close to Noah. "It's about Alter Gwen," he whispered into his ear.
That got Noah's attention. He straightened his back and walked out of his room and closed the door. "Never mind," he said, keeping up the act for the cameras. "I'll come with you. It sounds like fun."
DJ nodded and followed Noah to the bathhouse. "Is it that important?" Noah whispered out of the corner of his mouth.
DJ silently nodded, just before they reached the doors to the bathhouse. He walked in with a dark shadow cast over his face.
Noah stood there for a couple of seconds feeling a bit confused. Had something happened? Something to Alter Gwen? Noah glanced around the hallway, sensing a strange layer of despair in the air. It didn't feel right to him. It felt as if something was about to happen and he didn't like it at all.
Swallowing his worries, Noah followed DJ inside.
Xxx
Noah was greeted with several worried faces when he walked into the room. They all confirmed the same thing. "I'm guessing this has to do with Alter Gwen?" he asked. When no one answered him, he sighed. "Knew it."
"She's gone missing," muttered Sam, who was one of the several people inside.
"What?" Noah frowned. "When was this?"
Scott shrugged. "I came inside to check on it, since Monokuma seemed to be suspicious. When I came inside the laptop was missing."
Dawn nodded. "Some people are already searching the first floor, and I was thinking of having everyone else search the second floor." She looked at Noah. "What do you think?"
"When did I become the leader...?" Noah wondered, but instead of saying that he said, "Why not? We should split up into groups of two. And try to be as inconspicuous as possible."
Dawn nodded. "I'll go with you."
Noah sighed, wondering if she knew the numerous ways everyone could interpret that one statement. "Right," he said. "Where should we look first?"
Dawn smiled. "Maybe the second floor again?"
Xxx
Noah followed Dawn up the stairs. "Why would someone steal it?" he grumbled to himself. "It would've helped us. And I doubt Monokuma found it or he would've punished us by now."
"Don't worry, Noah." Dawn said. "I'm sure we'll find your book if we look at the places where you last left it."
"Oh yeah... my book." Truth be told, Noah had completely forgotten about his book after he had learned that Alter Gwen had gone missing. Even now, he wondered where it was. It wasn't like he had put it in a place where it could disappear.
Absorbed in his thoughts, Noah didn't notice that Dawn had stopped walking. He bumped into her back and stumbled back a bit, surprised by her sudden stop. "What's wrong?" he asked, looking at her.
Dawn had her eyes wide staring a certain something. Noah followed her gaze to the locked doors of the dining hall. Except it wasn't locked anymore. The wooden extravagant doors were now broken with one door hanging from its hinges and with a big hole near the bottom. "What happened...?" Noah heard Dawn whisper.
Almost feeling the pressure of the situation nearly crush him, Noah slowly inched himself towards the wreckage and his hand closed around the handle of the other door that was intact. He silently prayed that nothing had happened, but knew deep inside that it was futile.
"Open it." Dawn had silently crept up behind him without him ever noticing. "Better do it now than never."
Noah didn't reply back and instead slowly pushed the door open. The scene in front of him caused his mouth to fall open.
The walls of the dining hall were covered in blood with several stains going across the wall in smears. Several stains were also strewn along the floor, with no pattern at all. And in center of all of it lying on top of the main dining hall was...
...
...Duncan, his lifeless body looking almost peaceful as it lay there with an amazing amount of blood on its chest.
Noah's knees were shaking, as the intercom crackled to life. "Ding dong!" Monokuma said, saying his usual body discovery announcement. "A body has been found. After a set period of time, which should be used for investigating, a class trial will commence!"
And Bam! Duncan is dead. Pretty sure none of you expected that did you. ;)
What did you think of this chapter? I didn't know how to extend it so I had it end there. I'm not sure if I should've added some more, but maybe I could've. If so I'll do it in the next case. :)
