"Sir, the Agent is in the vehicle. He's ready with the Inkwhip."
"Is he protected?"
"Yes."
"Is there a backup plan if it is destroyed?"
"Of course."
"Perfect. Now we wait."
—
Rose was getting ready to head out for the day. Based on what she had seen, Callie hop in that kettle alone if the others were late.
She found her Hero Suit and felt something in a pocket. The document from yesterday. It was also coded, so she had to take it to the Outpost.
—
As she entered the manhole, Agents 1 and 2 were already there. Of course.
"The ink on the document dried up."
Agent 2 began to translate it.
—
Name: Akash Octrope
Date: Feb 5
Subject: Agent 3
Dr. Kraker has finished the weapons. They have been tested, and they work perfectly. The Inkwhip will be a valuable resource for us. The vehicle he will pilot is also a devastating weapon. These Agents will cower in fear at them. We shall rule.
—
"Inkwhip?" asked Agent 4.
Agent 1 was already pressing the muffle button on the globe.
"Okay," said the DJ. "First of all, WHAT THE SPLAT IS THAT!?"
He was staring that the Eagle, standing not too far away.
"You don't know?" said Agent 2. "It's called the Eagle."
"I never told them to build this! Is this one of Akash's 'hidden weapons'?"
"Probably, it's powered with Golden Eggs," said Agent 2.
"Anyway, what do you know about the Inkwhip?" asked Agent 4.
"Oh, that I know about. It's like a normal whip. It's 10 feet long. Besides the handle, it can go through anything. It can all instantly splat enemies."
"Oh, that's encouraging," Agent 2 remarked.
He kept reading the document. "About this vehicle, it's probably another hidden weapon."
"Then we have to target the joints," said Agent 1.
"That's all I know. Can't believe I'm saying this, but good luck. That Akash guy always seemed to be a menace to even my own people. You get him out, and I might consider trying to end this war."
This surprised all of them.
"Octavio, what made you say that?" asked Cap'n Cuttlefish.
"Just another incentive to get rid of Akash. The more I hear about him, the more I hate him. Anyway, it wasn't even me who started the war. It was my great-uncle."
—
The Agents stared at the Kettle. It was still labeled "Lab."
"You ready?" agent Agent 1.
They nodded in agreement. They went through the grate.
"The lidded Kettle was straight ahead and up a staircase," said Agent 2.
They proceeded through the hallway, passing the door and the branching path.
There was only one Octoling. Agent 2 splatted her once again.
They looked around to find a glass door with a Kettle inside. Sure enough, the lid was gone.
"Let's go."
The Agents went through the other kettle.
—
They landed on a respawn pad sticking out from another circular arena, twice the size of Octavio's arena.
The entire place was surrounded with a wall, but there was still a dark pit between it and the arena.
There were two other metal strips protruding from the arena. One led to what looked like a cell. The other went into a hallway.
These area were quickly covered with a metal door similar to the ones in the Lab above.
"They saw us," said Agent 4 one the doors came down.
Agent 1 looked up and saw something flying down from above. She instinctively placed down a Splash Wall.
This thing that was falling was the size of Deca Tower itself and bore resemblance to an Inkling. It was metal, similar to the Eagle. It landed kneeling, with its arms spread out. It hopped up, ready with a cylinder in its hand. The platform was covered in purple ink.
The way it landed meant nothing to Agent 4.
However, the other two Agents saw more than a few poses. This was the exact way that Agent 3 landed on a respawn pad.
The Inkling turned around, revealing that its head was clear. It was shaped like an orb.
Agent 1 saw who was in the orb, piloting the menace.
He was wearing armor and a familiar pair of Shades.
"Are those..." said Agent 4.
Agent 1 interrupted. "They're the same pair."
The one known as Agent 3 was smiling as he activated the Inkwhip.
The Inkling's cylinder did the same, with an extremely long string of concentrated ink appearing from it.
They heard a voice from it. "I was expecting you."
It went on after a pause. "You know, it's been a while since I saw the two of you. As for the third, is it another random kid from off the street? Pathetic. Anyway, you're not staying here. Either you three leave, or I make you."
Agent 1 was clearly hurt. She gripped her Roller tighter.
Agent 2 was furious. She took aim with her Charger and shot it. Nothing happened.
Agent 4 noticed the joints of the Inkling were glowing. "We need to shoot the joints again. We have to shred it from the bottom up."
The giant brought its hand back and swung it at the area where they once were. Little did he know, one of the Agents already swam under it using the trail made by Agent 2.
She stored her charge and jumped out of the trail, shooting the ankle. It didn't break, but it was weakened.
Agent 1 made her a path to get away with her vertical flick. She noticed that the Inkwhip brushed against the ankle and left some ink on it.
Agent 3 focused on them, but didn't know that Agent 4 was dodge rolling to avoid being stepped on.
She got behind it again and destroyed the left ankle. The foot flew off into the abyss. It stayed upright somehow.
This did not go unnoticed. He turned around and spun the Inkwhip, narrowly missing Agents 1 and 4.
He splatted Agent 2, who quickly respawned. That was one of the three they could use. Somebody could get splatted once more.
Agent 1 drove the Roller into the other ankle. The other foot flew off.
It could still hobble around on its legs.
The knees were higher up. Agents 2 and 4 could reach them easily. The giant swung the Inkwhip around, but the dodge roll was too good. Agent 2 retreated back to the outskirts, where Agent 1 was covering the area with green ink.
Agent 4 finished off both of the knees simultaneously, with the shins flying off into the abyss as well.
"Okay, that's enough!" said Agent 3. The next joint was connecting the thighs together and joining them with the torso. He protected it with a sheet of metal, which appeared from the giant.
"Yeah, I see why he would protect that area of all places," mumbled Agent 2.
"How do we shoot it now?" said Agent 4, while dodging the Inkwhip.
Agent 1 ran to her, leaving ink with her Roller. It began to focus on Agent 2, who was swimming in the ink that Agent 1 left.
"We have to get the Inkwhip there. It left some ink on the ankle, and it goes through everything."
Agent 4 nodded and ran to the thigh, then she shot it. The giant turned around, and she ran under it. The Inkwhip followed her, and even tried to catch her as she super jumped to Agent 1, who was waiting on the other side of the giant. The Inkwhip went around it and went through the joint.
Agent 1 winced, as she heard that hurts, especially for male Inklings. She hoped Agent 3 was okay.
Apparently he was, as instead of walking, the giant began to use a thruster to fly. The thighs fell into the darkness.
The rest of it flew up. It began to speak again.
"You know, that third one is smarter than she looks. You must've trained her well. Good luck getting up here, this thing is twice my height."
The Agents gathered as he went on about something irrelevant.
"The only way to get there now is to super jump," said Agent 1.
"Good thing its neck is huge," said Agent 2.
She swam around, leaving a few Beakons.
Agent 4 used one to distract the giant. She used the dodge roll to quickly fall back to the ground when the whip was close
While she did this, Agent 1 jumped over the head and swung her roller sideways, covering half of the back with ink.
Agent 2 did the same, but covered another part with ink.
This went on for a while. They were too fast to get hit by the slow Inkwhip, which was still massive.
Finally, when there was only a small bit left to cover, the giant flew to the wall.
"Can't jump over me when I'm out here!"
Agent 2 swam to the edge of the arena, placed a beakon, and jumped straight up.
"We don't have to."
She released the trigger, demolishing the joint and letting the torso fall to the abyss.
The head began to activate a thruster. They heard a voice again.
"Using emergency power, requesting backup."
A portion of the wall folded open like a garage door, and the clear head flew through.
Three ride-rails appeared in a line, leading through the new area.
Agent 1 was first there. Agent 4 was next. Agent 2 was last, as she had the range to stay in the back. They could all easily jump between the ride-rails.
They looked around. They were rushing through a white paneled hallway. The head was in the distance, but turned around and saw them.
Agent 3 activated the Inkwhip again. It left no ink on the orb, which was apparently uninkable.
Other ride rails-appeared from above them. Octolings with Octo Shots appeared on them. They began shooting.
The front two dodged most of the shots by jumping around.
Agent 2, however, could reach them. They were quickly splatted.
A noise was heard. They looked ahead and saw the head rushing towards them. It missed, but the Inkwhip grazed Agent 1's Hero Suit, ripping off a sleeve.
The ceiling abruptly became lower once the Inkrails ended. The Agents jumped off of them onto a small square-shaped platform and prepared for what was coming.
The head rushed at them again, missing them again. It tried to fly up to an opening in the roof, but the thruster sputtered, and the head fell.
It shattered.
The force of the impact stunned all of them. Once the glass fell, Agent 3 walked over to them.
The shades were clearly malfunctioning, as they had sparks flying out.
He fell forward, crushing the Hypno-Shades.
Agent 1 gasped at the sight of this. Agent 2 ran over to him. Shards of the shades were left on the ground.
Agent 2 removed the rest of the shades and the string fastening it to his head, revealing a familiar face.
"He's alive and breathing. I guess he was just knocked out."
"How do we get him out of here?" asked Agent 4.
"Simple. We carry him. No other option."
Agent 2 handled carrying him. She fastened her Charger to her waist.
Inklings could easily carry each other, considering they could use Rollers with little struggle.
They found a door leading to a hallway. Agent 2 stayed in the middle, while Agent 4 was at the back.
The hallway curved and didn't have much. There was nothing of interest.
They opened another door and walked into another hallway.
What they saw amazed and frightened all of them.
The tall hallway was covered with cells. Each held an individual Inkling.
"No..." Agent 4 was horrified.
Agent 2 said "If Akash is willing to do this, who knows how many he has!?"
Agent 1 found a button that said "Open All."
The cells opened. Confused Inklings from each looked out before jumping down. They would do anything for freedom.
Each was wearing a set of prison clothes. They still oddly looked fine physically.
"Attention! We are here to rescue all of you. Follow us," said Agent 1.
Alarms went off. They had to be fast.
Agent 4 still stayed at the back. The next door led back to the arena, but was locked.
They went back through the door to the hallway. They took another path leading up a long staircase
Agent 1 dropped another Splash wall to give them time. Agent 4 threw an Autobomb which began to walk... somewhere.
Octarians began to chase them, but the Splash Wall stopped them. Agent 4 spatted them easily.
They saw a light and emerged from a building. It was near the Lab Kettle.
"Come on! We need to get farther."
They ran for a while. The Octarians wouldn't be willing to go this far away from the base.
They stopped a distance from Inkopolis Tower.
"Okay. We should be safe here," said Agent 1.
"Are you all okay?" asked Agent 4.
A few nodded, while others didn't respond.
One, however, began to cry. "Thank you, thank you so much. I was down there so long. I began to forget the sun. It's been so long since I've seen the surface."
Agent 4 was in for another shock. This Inkling looked familiar. She said nothing, though.
She walked over to the one that was crying and asked her, "Will you be okay if we asked you a few questions? We're trying to stop the new leader of the Octarians, and we need all of the information we can get."
"Yes, okay, just give me a moment. I was the first they got."
"Do you all have somewhere to go? If so, you may leave." asked Agent 2.
Most of the Inklings thanked their saviors before leaving the area.
Agent 3 was still asleep.
Agent 4 asked the first prisoner, "You ready? We have to take you somewhere alone. Don't worry. You can trust me."
She lowered her sunglasses a bit. The prisoner's eyes widened in recognition.
"I trust you."
