Stefan, Elijah, Klaus, Rebekah, and a very pregnant Hayley were in the emergency waiting room waiting for Elizabeth's diagnostic. Klaus had practically, ran to the hospital and thrust her into the first doctor he saw, not that he trusted any of them, but since he couldn't use vampire blood to heal her, the doctors were the next best things.
They had deposited Elizabeth into the hands of the doctors almost an hour ago and they still had no news. But they were far from being patient.
Rebekah couldn't stop crying and was getting on everyone's nerves.
Klaus looked like he wanted to murder everyone in the room.
Elijah kept tapping his foot.
Stefan kept looking at his watch every five seconds.
The only calm one seemed to be Hayley who sighed, tiredly. "Guys, you worrying won't speed up the process," she said. "From a human point of view I can tell you that Elizabeth will be just fine."
Klaus tried to control his temper towards the future mother of his child, not that it was easy. "Hayley, sweetheart Elizabeth tried to commit suicide, when a person does that is because they want to ensure that they no longer live. It's not as easy as you think it is."
Elijah rummage a hand through his hair. "Niklaus, be nice you biting everyone's head off isn't helping the situation."
Elizabeth had actually killed herself. The phase ran though everyone's head like a silent mantra. They knew that Elizabeth was worried and anxious because she was slowly dying of old age and developing Alzheimer's, but they hadn't thought that she would have been desperate enough to kill herself.
Klaus turned to Rebekah suddenly and scowled. "Stop crying, this is all your fault."
Rebekah wiped her tears. "How is it my fault?"
"You have been the only one besides Stefan that has spent enough time with Beth! You should have known what she was trying to do!"
"Are you seriously trying to blame this on me? What about you Nik, if you hadn't been too busy trying to take over New Orleans then maybe you would have worried about you family sooner."
"I'm trying to give everyone a home! Is that wrong? I've done more for Elizabeth than you, sister. At least I don't chase every man who calls me pretty."
"ENOUGH!" Elijah's voice boomed and then he lowered it when he saw people staring. "You two bickering is not going to solve anything. It wasn't anyone's fault. It was Elizabeth's decision."
Stefan leaned back into his chair trying to ignore his pounding headache. "Well, it has been the most stupid decision she has ever made." How could he have been so stupid? He knew the kind of person Elizabeth was, she was stubborn and independent and there was no way she would just sit around and wait until death claimed her. Stefan had seen how Elizabeth had looked at him, when she had told him to leave because she didn't want him to see her die.
Her brown eyes had been full of sadness, despair, and hopelessness. Stefan really was the worst boyfriend on the planet. If Elizabeth died, he would never forgive himself.
"Relatives of Miss Elizabeth Mikaelson."
They stood up and glanced at the doctor. A short, stocky man that was at least a foot shorter than all of them glanced at them. Apparently the mix of crying and murderess expressions made him nervous. He cleared his throat. "I have some news."
"Well, you've been in there for an hour, so I should hope so." Klaus snapped as he approached the doctor. "Now speak up."
The doctor smiled nervously. "Your sister came with some grave injuries, if I may ask, what did she attempted to cut her wrists with."
"A knife." Rebekah said tightly. "We already told the nurses."
The doctor nodded as he looked back at his clipboard. "I see. Your sister came in with very grave injuries, she came near death." He paused. "But we managed to save her, we gave her several blood transfusion and she is very weak but alive. She lost a lot of blood and she is on a lot of pain medication. But we found some other problems."
Stefan's heart skipped a beat. "What kind of problems?"
"Her organs are failing, her brain is shrinking typically this happens from Alzheimer's." He gulped. "We don't know why this is happening to her. I'm sorry, but I-we don't think she has much to live."
"Surely, there is a drug, a sort of treatment- Elijah's voice trailed off. But even he knew that Elizabeth's case was far from easy.
"Like I said, we have never seen this before especially in a teenager." He looked uncomfortable. "We need you to sign some papers. You can see your sister in the morning."
Flashback 1920's.
"One, two, three." Elizabeth clicked her glass against Stefan's before they both finished the shots. Stefan finished much quicker than her. "How do you do that?"
Stefan smirked at her. "Practice."
Elizabeth pulled out an unlit cigarette. "Well, you're going to have to teach me."
Stefan pulled the cigarette from her hand as he kissed her. "My please, Miss Mikaelson."
End of Flashback
Elizabeth blinked twice, before she opened her eyes. There was a warm sunlight coming from the window. The sun was barely starting to rise. She looked around and saw that she was in a small hospital room. She was wearing an uncomfortable white hospital robe with tiny blue ribbons. She felt like crap to say the least. Her throat felt chalky and her mouth dry.
She looked down and saw that her wrists were covered in heavy bandages, though there was some blood still on them. Someone had strapped restrains on them, probably to prevent her from trying to commit suicide again.
The heart machine next to her let out a soft beep sound, indicating that her heart was still beating. Elizabeth leaned back against her pillows, she craned her neck to the side and for the first time noticed that Stefan was sleeping near the window in a chair.
She let out a small smile and simply stared as she closed her eyes.
