Chapter 14
The Epilogue
Hermione awoke, her back sore and her body fatigued. She rested a hand on her swollen stomach. The spot beside her was still slightly warm, but Draco was nowhere to be seen, and then she heard the loud call of her name. "Mum!" she heard, and then the door opened to reveal Draco and their son, Scorpius Abraxas Malfoy, a tribute to Draco's grandfather. "Hey, sweet pea" Hermione said, managing to pull the covers off her and having Scorpius crawl beside her.
"How's bed rest going?" Draco asked, kissing her forehead. "Good," and then Twinky appeared, old in age, but still loving her service. She carried a small tray of breakfast and that made Hermione eternally grateful.
"Thank you, Twinky" Hermione said and the house elf did a small bow and disappeared. Scorpius crawled in beside Hermione, grabbing for the food, and quickly snatched a piece of fruit before leaning down and resting his ear against her stomach, listening as the baby moved within her.
She felt it kicking against her stomach. Or rather, she felt her.
They had agreed to never forget their Aurora, and now with her name, they had done just that. Her name was Rose Aurora Malfoy and it was beautiful.
"How's Rose?" Draco asked, making his way to sit beside Scorpius, whom he quickly snatched, tickling his sides. "She's great, been having a bit of contractions though" Hermione admitted. The due date was close, with Rose being born in April. It was perfect, a Rose born in spring.
It was almost the beginning of April, where little Rose would be born, and it would be perfectly amazing.
She was scared to say the least. She had been horrified with fear of failing when first
being pregnant with Scorpius, but now, pregnant with Rose, new fear bubbled beneath the surface. Was she going to be able to protect her? What if she ended up helpless like with Aurora?
Being so helpless was something she had feared throughout her whole life, even as she strode to be the best, she couldn't help but feel useless sometimes, with the great Harry Potter by her side. Slowly, she remembered how Draco, surprisingly, had helped her work through it, as she had helped to prove his prejudiced self wrong.
They had helped each other so much over the years of them becoming friends.
Then, the day passed, hours slowly going as Hermione spent time with her family, then, the first contraction came.
She wasn't bothered, used to the different contractions of the pregnancy, but then came another a few minutes later. She paid more attention to the next one and gripped the Muggle phone she owned to go to the contraction app.
Scorpius and Draco sat beside her talking and chatting, and Hermione didn't want to alert them if it was a false alarm, and quickly began timing the contractions.
When they began to come regularly, she found herself calling Pansy, her best friend. "Hey Pans?" she asked, listening for the voice on the other side. "Yes?" she heard Pansy say, another contraction racking through Hermione.
"I think the baby is coming, could you come and watch Scorpius?" Hermione asked, gripping the couch beside her.
"Oh! I'll be right over!" Pansy said, hanging up, and Hermione knew she wouldn't have to wait long. She turned to Draco, who looked at her with confusion and then she quickly told him, to which he began to freak out and grabbed the bag they had prepared for St. Mungos.
"Okay, Pansy will be here an second!" Hermione said, standing as Draco strolled in with the bag. Then, she felt a trickle down her legs and realized that her water had broke, and then the next contraction came.
It was almost tripled in pain and caused her to cry out slightly.
Draco rushed to her, and they prepared to drive quickly, the floo or apparation too much for the task of labour.
"Hurry up!" Hermione called, or rather, yelled. She was rubbing her stomach as it sent pain through her body.
Draco was going much faster than the speed limit, and it worried him, but not as much as having his baby in a car.
Then, they made it to St. Mungos and he helped Hermione of the car. They rushed inside and she was practically whisked away. She was set up in a room and her favourite flower, a Peruvian Lily, could be found in a vase and her hospital bag was set on the chair where Draco could sometimes be found.
Instead though, Draco was by Hermione. He sat holding her hand to which she had a death grip on.
The doctors came in only a few minutes after she had begun to cry, a few stray tears falling down her face. They had checked her, then they realized they had to begin right away, which seemed to be odd considering how long Scorpius' labour was, but they didn't disagree and instead the room was filled with Hermione's screams.
An hour later, when Hermione was exhausted and sweaty, they greeted Rose Aurora Malfoy into the world. She was a crying mess, her cries almost as loud as Hermione's screams had been.
However, when Rose had been placed into her mother's arms, she instantly quieted, calmed by the heartbeat of Hermione.
Draco had helped and held her throughout it, and she was more than grateful. Now, they sat as one whole family. Scorpius had been brought only a few seconds ago to greet his new sister and now, they were the picture of a perfect family, and Hermione cried again. She was so thankful for her amazing family and amazing life. "You know, Ginny's baby can be friends with ours." Hermione had mumbled, tired from labour and Draco only laughed kissing her forehead. "You're wonderful, Mia" Draco said as the rest of the family came in. The Weasleys, Harry, Theo, Blaise, Pansy, and Lucius had all came to greet little Rose.
They had a party, celebrating the little life, which had also brought Hermione to tears. Her hormones were crazy, that's at least what she told herself.
Then, she stared down at the little child she had created with their love, and her eyes open and all she saw was the stardust Draco had once hidden beneath clouds.
