Alejandro didn't make any romantic advances on Heather throughout the next few days, unless she specifically asked for something. He'd still kiss her, and hold her at night, and occasionally call her pet names in Spanish, but the true nature of his actions seemed to revolve around making sure Heather was as comfortable as possible. As he had the week before, he let his sleep patterns get messed up by being in sync with Heather's, and stayed with her most days. Of course, there were times when her family came into her room, but before the door was fully opened, Alejandro would have already disappeared out the window, and would return the second Heather was alone again.
On Wednesday and Thursday, Heather was slightly worse than she'd been the week before. On Friday, she was slightly better, and even managed to get out of bed and not feel like she was on the verge of falling over. By Saturday, she was still shivering and sweating, and she felt weak, but everything else had gone, and she was back to normal by Sunday afternoon.
"Okay, this really has to stop." she told Alejandro on Sunday morning.
"What does?" he asked, although he knew what was coming next.
"Let me put this simply: Tuesday night, go somewhere else." Heather ordered. "I don't care who it is, just let someone else get sick every week! I'll admit that I...tolerate your visits now, but my blood is no different to anyone else's, so let me get through at least one week with no blood loss!"
Alejandro had no intention of feeding on anyone else until there was no blood left in Heather's veins, when she would become a vampire like him. So he sidestepped the question. "Your blood may not seem any different to anyone else's," he said, "But I've tasted so many different people's over the years, and none of them are quite like yours. Remember when I told you that Bridgette tasted like sushi with wasabi?"
Heather was sidetracked. "Speaking of which, I know someone who said she had puncture marks, just a week before me. You wouldn't happen to have drank from anyone called Courtney?"
"Oh, I remember her." Alejandro answered. He grimaced. "Not my favourite feeding, but it was good to be the one controlling her. A friend of mine used to date her, and he told me how over-controlling she was. She tasted like sour cherry ice-cream."
Heather frowned. "Are you telling me that everyone's blood tastes different? How come?"
"I've thought about that." Alejandro answered. "I usually can pick up on a girl's personality. Bridgette was vegetarian sushi because she's an honest and nature-loving person. Courtney was sour cherry ice-cream because she's a sour cold person."
"You got that right." Heather muttered. She only kept Courtney close to hold more control over the school – she'd never really liked her. Then a thought came to her. "So what makes me so special?"
Alejandro moved close to Heather and put his arm around her. "Remember when I told you that your blood is to me what gourmet food is to you?"
"Yes..." Heather frowned.
"Well, your blood fits your personality, too. You...you taste like both sugar and spice. The spice proves just how fiery you can be."
Heather scowled. "Right...and I suppose the sugar means I'm sweet?"
"I'll admit that I don't see it that often," Alejandro admitted with a sly smile, "But it is there. It's the side that you keep hidden from the world. And that, Heather," he gave her one of his rare genuine smiles, "Is why I like you. I like that you're such a strong person, but that you have another side to you."
Heather crossed her arms. "Whatever." she huffed. She was well aware that there was a sensitive side to her that proved she wasn't really as bad as she made herself out to be. But if her experiences as an unpopular awkward middle schooler was anything to go by, showing sensitivity or kindness only led to pain. The last thing she wanted was to have someone tell her her sensitive side still existed, when she worked so hard to keep it hidden. But in this case, she realized, after saying that, that...she didn't mind as much as she should have. She minded, all right, but only a little bit.
"Anyway," she said, having completely forgotten her original aim in the conversation, "You don't have to stay here any more. I'm not sick any more. Besides, you look overworked." she finished teasingly.
Alejandro's eyes flickered to Heather's dresser mirror for seconds before he looked back at her. "Actually, I still look as gorgeous as always." he retorted playfully.
"You're delusional." Heather laughed. "But seriously, go get some rest. You've been doing everything for me for the last four days. Besides, if you really want to talk to me, you still can." She pointed to where the mark shimmered. "It's not like I'll be doing anything."
"Well, you do look like you've recovered." Alejandro said, looking at her carefully.
"Who are you, my dad?" Heather snapped. "I have recovered, you don't have to treat me like I'm going to relapse any second. In fact, any relapses in this are your fault."
"I suppose I'll see you tonight, then?"
Heather shook her head. "Oh, no. No way. I have been feeling lousy for nearly five days and you think you can just come over, like things between us are all fine? Give me one night alone, at least. "
"Come on, Heather." Alejandro pressed. "Since you've been feeling so awful, would you permit me to turn that feeling around tonight? I promise I won't wake you up on Monday." He didn't need to use compulsion much any more, but he was close to it, when Heather finally gave up.
"Or Tuesday?" she said.
"Of course." Alejandro answered, truthfully enough. He had no intention of not feeding on Heather on Tuesday, but he only said he wouldn't wake her up. He hadn't woken her the last four times, and there was no reason to start now, when he could get whatever else he wanted one of the other six days of the week.
"Fine." Heather sighed.
"Farewell, but not for long." Alejandro smirked as he kissed Heather goodbye briefly and then leapt out of the window gracefully.
There are going to be changing effects as the number of times Alejandro feeds from Heather increases, but as if I'm going to explain what they are now. Wanna review?
