Chapter 14—The Appointment

A/N: Please review.

[one week later]

Liz woke up in her own bed in her Mississippi home. She stretched and yawned before checking her phone for calls or messages from Randy. There was one.

Randy 4:17am
Hey babe. I know you're probably still sleeping but I just wanted to let you know that my flight was delayed for an hour. I should be there no later than 8:30. Love you.

Liz smiled at the text and saw that it was almost 8 o'clock. She got out of bed and took a hot shower; she dried off and tried to find something that fit her. She was already four months pregnant and some jeans were too small for her to wear. She decided on a WWE Total Divas t-shirt, black sweat pants, and a matching hoodie. When she was dressed, Liz sat at her vanity mirror and did her make-up. She kept it simple with light powder, a nude lipstick, and minimal mascara.

When she was done, Liz went downstairs to make breakfast for two. She made grits, eggs, bacon, sausage, and blueberry muffins. By the time she was setting the table, her phone rang. She smiled when she saw it was Randy.

Good morning, Randy!

Good morning. I'm almost there. I'm so sorry I'm late.

It's okay, babe. I just finished breakfast. We have plenty of time before my appointment. I could have picked you up from the airport.

It's alright; I took a cab. I'm just around the corner. I'll see you in a minute.

Okay.

Liz hung up the phone and poured some orange juice into two glasses.

"I never realized how domestic you are," Randy said as he walked into the kitchen minutes later.

Liz playfully rolled her eyes and hugged her boyfriend. He leaned down and captured her soft lips with his own. Liz moaned into the kiss but pulled away before things got too heavy.

"I've always cooked, Randy. That's nothing new," she said.

He laughed. "True. This all looks delicious," he said as he sat at the bar. He scooped up some of everything Liz had cooked.

"So what's the plan today?" he asked as he ate.

"Well, my appointment is at 10. I have to sort of figure out what I'm going to do for work," she said.

Randy frowned. "Work? You're loaded, Liz. You've got more money than most of us guys at work," he said.

She shrugged. "I know, but I want to keep myself occupied. I was doing a lot with WWE, and now, I'm not doing anything at all," she said.

Randy nodded. He was a bit quiet all of a sudden.

"What's on your mind?" Liz asked.

He sighed. "I don't know how you're going to feel about this, but I was thinking that you could probably travel with me until it's almost time for the baby to come," he said.

Liz smiled. "That's a pretty good idea. I'd love to travel with you; this whole week has been so boring," she said.

Randy smiled. "Cool. So, when we get back from your appointment, we can figure out a plan or something," he said.

Liz nodded. "That sounds good,"

When they finished breakfast, Liz and Randy headed out to go to the doctor. When they got to the doctor's office, they sat in the lobby after

Liz signed in and waited to be called.

"Elizabeth Caro?" a nurse called out.

Liz and Randy stood and followed the nurse to a little cubby down the hall.

"Alright, Miss Caro. I need you step right here on this scale," the nurse said. Liz handed her purse to Randy to hold while she got her weight measured. When the nurse got an accurate result, she recorded the weight and motioned for Liz and Randy to follow her to the examination room.

"Your doctor will be here in a moment. Miss Caro, you can sit on the examination table and you, sir, can have a seat here," she pointed to a chair in the corner." Randy nodded and sat as the nurse left.

"You nervous?" Randy asked.

Liz shook her head. "Nope. I feel great," she said.

Randy nodded. They made casual conversation until the doctor walked in.

"Good morning, Miss Caro," the doctor said as she walked in. "My name is Dr. Madison White. I'll be your OBGYN throughout your pregnancy." she said.

Liz nodded. "I'm Elizabeth, but please call me Liz. This is my boyfriend, Randy," she said.

The doctor shook Randy's hand. "It's nice to meet you both. Now, let's get a few things covered before we look at the baby," she said.

Liz nodded and waited for the questions.

"Okay, do you work?"

"Not at the moment,"

"Do you have any allergies?"

"No,"

"Have you ever had any abdominal surgeries?"

"No,"

"Do you exercise regularly?"

"Define regularly," Liz said with a slight chuckle.

"Do you do any physical activity for least 30 minutes a day?"

"Yes. I walk on a treadmill,"

"Great. So is this your first pregnancy?"

"Yes,"

"And is this your first child, Randy?" the doctor asked.

Liz interrupted before Randy could answer. "He's not the father," she said almost shamefully.

"Oh. I'm sorry for asking," Dr. White said.

"It's okay. We just recently started dating. It's not like I didn't know," Randy said in an attempt at comedic relief.

Liz smiled thankfully at him. He winked at her to calm her nerves. She held out her hand to beckon him to her. She felt more at ease with Randy by her side.

Dr. White continued her questions.

"Have you had any pain in your breasts, lower back, or legs?"

Liz shook her head. "No,"

"Have you experienced excessive morning sickness?"

Liz frowned. "Actually, now that I think about it. I haven't had morning sickness at all. Is that normal?" she asked.

Dr. White nodded. "Some women are lucky enough to never have morning sickness. It's nothing to worry about," she said.

Liz nodded.

"Do you smoke?"

"No."

"Do you drink?"

"No,"

"Are you currently taking any prescription medications?"

"No,"

"What about over the counter medications?"

"No,"

"Randy, do you smoke?" the doctor asked.

He shook his head. "No,"

Dr. White turned her attention back to Liz. "Do you have any questions for me?" she asked.

Liz bit her lip. "It's a little embarrassing," she stated.

Dr. White smiled. "There is no such thing as an embarrassing question, Liz. I'm sure whatever it is isn't as strange as most questions I get," she said to reassure the first time mother.

"Okay. Um, is it okay for Randy and I to have sex while I'm pregnant?" she asked.

Randy was shocked by the question; he thought Liz still wanted to wait.

Dr. White smiled softly. "Yes, it is. Near the receptionist's desk is a wall of pamphlets. One of them talks about all the different positions that are safe for each trimester of pregnancy," she said.

Liz and Randy nodded.

"Is there anything else?" Dr. White asked.

Liz looked up at Randy with questioning eyes. He shook his head.

"No, we don't have anymore questions," Liz said.

Dr. White nodded. "Okay. Just lay back and and lift up your shirt," the doctor said.

Liz peeled off her hoodie and handed it to Randy. She laid back on the examination table and raised up her shirt. Randy took her hand in his own and kissed it.

"This jelly is water based, so it won't be sticky or greasy. But it will be cold," the doctor said.

Liz hissed when the cold jelly touched her belly.

The doctor rubbed the jelly with the examining wand. "Do you see that right there?'" the doctor asked as she pointed to a spot on the screen.

Liz and Randy nodded.

"That's your baby. You can see the fingers there, the toes there, and right here you can see the baby's head," she pointed out.

Liz smiled; tears started to form in her eyes. "That's my baby..." she said softly.

"Would you like to know the sex?" Dr. White asked.

Liz looked to Randy; he nodded. "Yes, please," Liz said.

"It looks like your first bundle of joy is going to be a little boy! Congratulations," she said.

Randy and Liz smiled at each other. The doctor pressed some buttons on the machine; there was a few beeps before there was silence that indicated the machine was ready.

"This machine is going to let us hear the baby's heart beat," Dr. White said. She moved the wand around Liz's belly until the sound of the baby boy's heartbeat could be heard.

Liz gasped and covered her mouth. "That's his heartbeat?" she asked.

Dr. White nodded. "Yep. It sure is," she said.

"That is so amazing, Randy; there's a baby inside of me!" she said excitedly.

Randy smiled and nodded. "It is amazing, Liz," he said.

"Okay," Dr. White started. "It looks like you're about 18 weeks along. The baby boy is about 16 weeks old; he's about 6 inches long; and he weighs about 7 ounces," she said.

Liz smiled at the baby on the monitor.

"Would you like a 4D sonogram?" Dr. White asked.

Liz nodded. "Yes! Please." she said with a grin.

Dr. White chuckled. "Okay. Let me get you cleaned up and we'll get that sonogram printed for you," she said.

Once the jelly was cleaned from Liz's belly, Dr. White printed the sonogram and gave it to her. Liz stared at the image in amazement.

"You can go to the receptionist to make an appointment for a month from now. Here's a prescription for your prenatal vitamins. I'm also going to give you some samples of anti-nausea medicine just in case you get morning sickness," Dr. White said. She ripped the paper from the prescription pad and gave it to Randy since Liz was still staring at the photo of her baby boy.

Randy helped Liz off of the examination table and ushered her out to the lobby so they could make another appointment. Liz was too enthralled in the photo to even make the appointment herself, so Randy picked a date based on the next time he would have a day off.

He drove towards Liz's house, but he slowed down to ask Liz a question.

"Do you want to stop by the grocery store so we can make dinner tonight?" he asked.

That question brought Liz out of her trance. She nodded. "Yeah, I was thinking about doing a few steaks, baked potatoes, and salads. How does that sound?" she asked.

Randy shrugged. "Sounds good to me," he said.

There was a small moment of silence before Liz piped up. "Can I ask you something?" she said.

Randy glanced at her and back at the road before nodding. "Sure. What's up?" he asked.

"What do you think about me having a baby that isn't yours?" she asked.

He sighed. "I knew that question would come up eventually... I just- I don't know. I just want you to be happy and I want that baby boy to be healthy. I don't really care about anything else," he said.

"Really?" she asked.

He nodded. "Really. Did you think I was going to be mad or something?" he asked.

"Yeah," she said hardly above a whisper.

Randy laughed. "I knew you were pregnant for a while, Liz. If I was mad about it, I wouldn't have kept trying to get you to agree to this relationship," he said.

Liz gave a small smile. "I forgot about that," she said.

"So, no, babe. I'm not mad or jealous or angry or anything else. I'm happy for you. You're going to make a great mother," Randy said.

"You really think so?" Liz asked.

He nodded. "Definitely. You're an awesome caretaker, Liz. I think that's just who you are. Being a mother will be a breeze for you," he said.

She smiled as Randy pulled up to the grocery store.

They got out of the car and grabbed a grocery cart to do the shopping.

"Babe, can you go find some steaks while I pick out some potatoes?" Liz asked Randy.

He nodded and kissed her on her cheek. "Sure. I'll meet you back right here," he said.

Liz nodded as he walked off. She walked around the produce section and put various items in the cart until she was interrupted by a blast from the past.

"Liz? Is that you?" the person asked.

Liz turned around the face the man. "Tucker?" she asked.

"Yeah, it's me! It's been a while. How are you?" he asked.

Liz was hesitant; she paused for while before answering. "I'm good," she said trying to keep the encounter short.

"So, um, I see you're working with the WWE now. That must be awesome," he said.

She nodded. "Yeah it was," she said.

Tucker frowned. "What do you mean, 'was'? Do you not work there anymore?" he asked.

Liz shook her head and unconsciously rubbed her belly. "No. I had to take a break for personal reasons," she said.

He glanced at her belly and back at Liz. "You're pregnant? Wow I can't believe you got married and got knocked up so soon," he said.

Before Liz could say anything, Tucker noticed that there wasn't a ring on her left ring finger.

"Wait. You aren't married, but your pregnant? After all that bullshit about waiting until marriage to have sex you turn up pregnant?" he asked angrily.

Liz couldn't figure out why Tucker was so upset. Sure he broke up with her because she wouldn't have sex with him, but Liz figured he had moved on. Apparently not. She raised an eyebrow to him; Randy stepped in. He put the steaks in the cart and wrapped an arm around Liz waist; he pulled her close to his body as a form of protection.

"Is everything okay, babe?" he asked.

Liz smirked. "I don't know. Is everything okay, Tucker?" she asked.

Tucker huffed and looked at Randy. "Yeah, man. Everything's cool. Have fun with your whore nun," he said before he walked off.

Randy lunged towards him, but Liz pulled him back. "Let it go, Randy. He's not worth it."

He took a deep breath and looked at everything in the cart.

"Is this everything?" he asked.

Liz nodded. "Yep. Let's go check out," she said.

Randy nodded and pushed the cart to the check out lines.

When they got home, Randy helped Liz put everything away. Before all the groceries were in their places, Liz yawned. "I'm going to go lay down for a bit. When you're done here, will you come join me?" she asked.

Randy smiled. "Of course. I'll be up in a minute," Randy said.

Liz nodded and ventured to her bedroom where she fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Soon enough, Randy slipped into bed behind her. He kissed her shoulder and held her as he thought about a travel plan for her.

In her sleep, Liz turned over and cuddled into Randy's body.

Randy smiled. He had wondered what it would feel like to have Liz's body so close to his; it was like heaven for him. The little girl who lived next door wasn't a little girl anymore. She was a mother, now. In only five months, she was going to give birth to a baby boy; a baby boy who he hoped Liz would let Randy call a son.
