Chapter 14: Early Extermination:
"Hey Kagome..."
"Kagome...Kagome wake up..."
"Pray that you never have to find out.."
"Here take this belt...this leather belt right here..."
"Kagome are you listening to me?"
"Pray that you never have to find out."
"Listen to me, keep your head down."
"Don't show weakness."
"It will be even harder if you fight."
"Sh...cover that up! Are you crazy! Don't want to get picked do you?"
"Pray that you never have to find out..."
"Huh!.." Kagome yelled as she shot up in her bed, her arms heavy with sweat along with her legs shaking under the covers of the bed. "Ganet..." Kagome said as she looked around the quiet, empty room. "Ganet...I'm...I'm so sorry..." Kagome muttered as she brought her knees to her chest, tears falling from her eyes onto the sheets below.
"You protected me and I never even tried to save you...Ganet...why didn't you tell me...why didn't you let me save you...I could have helped you.."
"Oh god why! Why wasn't I there!" She cried into her hands, the wet tears burning against her cold skin. "We should have fought Ganet, we could have...me and you..maybe you would be alive...maybe you would be here with me."
...
"Kagome I know I'm going to die, but you're not. You won't die because you have me, and I will die because I have you." Ganet said, with a smile on her face and hope in her eyes.
"Ganet I don't understand..." Kagome said, a puzzled look upon her dirty beaten face. Ganet raised her thin boned arm up to Kagome's face, wiping a warm wet clothe across the bruise that covered her left cheek.
"Well you don't seem to listen to me." She smiled, and brought her thumb under Kagome's chin "But that's because your spirit is strong and full of hope. Remember when I said never lose that hope? How women come here and lose it? Well, that's how they end up dying, they lose their hope and stop fighting. When I told you not to fight, that it will be harder, you listened to me. And in a way that is how you fight, you resist the urge to spit in the faces of those who control us, and that is your power."
"But...why will you die because of me then?" Kagome asked.
"Remember my baby Marcus? Remember what I told you about him?" Ganet asked, with rose colored cheeks and bright shining eyes. She looked beautiful, hope filled her face and this was what Kagome was shocked about the most.
"Ganet I do, your two year old baby boy. His beautiful blue eyes, blonde curly hair, and a smile that could make any woman cry with tears of joy and.."
"Good Kagome. Well while you don't hold his physical aspects, you remind me of my baby boy. He was strong like you, but he never got that strength from me that's for sure." Ganet said with a laugh.
"Ganet I-"
"Kagome, it's so late. And my weak body can't miss an ounce of sleep, go to bed child." Ganet said, before turning to lay down on her blankets amongst the cold concrete floor.
"Good night Ganet..." Kagome whispered.
"Good night Kagome." Ganet replied in a hushed tone.
...
That night, Kagome hadn't known it, but Ganet left their sleeping area. She walked out into the hallway, her clothes dragged on the floor behind her as she stumbled through the dark hopeless corridor. A guard called to her, but she didn't listen to him. His demands for her to stop, to turn around, state her name, nope she wouldn't listen. And then Ganet's body hit the floor, like a rock that fell from 50 feet up in the air. The sound she made as she crashed onto that concrete, was ear piercing. The guard hadn't touched her, shot her, nothing. Ganet's heart had finally given out, at least that's what the woman would whisper around Kagome the next morning. But Kagome knew what really happened, Ganet had been giving her food to stuff under sleeping bag. Told Kagome she was working over time to earn the bread and soups, but Kagome had never seen her leave the sleeping area with a guard like she usually did to earn the food. That 2 weeks worth of extra food under Kagome's bed finally made sense, she was going to be the death of Ganet.
Because Ganet wanted Kagome to survive, because Kagome had something Ganet just couldn't hold in her frail body anymore.
Kagome had hope.
"I have hope..." She whispered to herself, her hands clutching her shirt over her heart. She looked at her own arms, and swore she could still imagine the bone sticking out through the skin. Now, her body which was an average size again, seemed to be her chamber. Her jail, a place to hold cold stories and lies that other had told. But Ganet tried to help her anyway, even though her body was what made her vulnerable. Kagome had begged day and night for her body to just give out, for her heart to beat it's last beat. But it never did, and now here she is. So was it really a jail?
Kagome looked over at her alarm clock, the red numbers flashing on the screen as if they were here grave stone. 4:56 AM, In about 4 hours a dark truck will pull into the drive way of Inuyasha's home. And Kagome would leave, to go back to the camp, where once again her hope would be tested.
Kagome smiled to herself and looked out the window at the corner of the room. The sun had begun to rise, and the red sky was a beacon for her to look up to.
"Rest in piece Ganet..."
"NO! NO NO NO! YOU PROMISED YOU WOULD SAVE HER!" Rin yelled as she threw her fists at Inuyasha's chest. "HOW COULD YOU LET THEM COME AND TAKE HER!" She yelled through tears, she probably would have done some serious damage to the half demon if it wasn't for Sesshomaru's arms holding her back.
In the corner of the room on a dark leather seat sat the crying Sango, and the comforting Miroku. The room had the cold brittle ear of death lingering around everyone, the time was 9:08 AM. Hard to believe Kagome was taken only 8 minutes ago...And only Inuyasha saw her off.
"You could have at least let us say goodbye..." Sango hiccuped through her tears. "Why do you always have to be so selfish!" She yelled before standing up to march out of the room.
"You are not the only who loves her!" Rin yelled as she twisted out of Sesshomaru's arms, Inuyasha's face held a cold stare which only fueled the anger that Rin felt. "HOW CAN YOU JUST STAND THERE AND ACCEPT THIS?!"
Inuyasha kept his composure exactly as he entered with it, but the twisting ache in his stomach that had been relentlessly attacking him was causing him to cry inside of his skin.
"SAY SOMETHING!" Rin shouted one last time before dropping her hands to her sides. "Did you ever actually care?" She asked before turning to leave the room.
Once Rin was clear of the room, as well as anyone compromising to what Inuyasha needed to say, Miroku shut the door calmly and Sesshomaru closed the blinds.
"So what's the plan?" Sesshomaru asked.
"The guards that Miroku hired are in place and waiting to take Kagome to her room, were going to have be very quiet about everything we do now. There are about 300 guards in the building she is heading to, and from what I heard security is tighter than ever. They put in cameras and keep the rooms lit, even at night. And Mr. Logat is living on the camp sites now, so I have an easy access to the building. We go way back as friends, once I get into a meeting with the infamous slave trade mastermind, the plan will be easier to execute."
"When is the meeting with Kaiak?" Miroku asked.
Inuyasha looked down at his watch, then back up at the two men with him. "In about 45 seconds."
"Inuyasha what the hell why so soon! Shouldn't you have left already?!" Miroku shouted.
Inuyasha smiled and shook his head "You guys should probably get dressed and head to the camp."
"What about you?!" Miroku asked, looking towards Sesshomaru who just shook his head.
"Okay, what does everyone know that I don't?" Miroku demanded.
And then, the doorbell rang.
