Chapter 14 : Next
It didn't take long for Cam to understand that some of the things this criminal were telling her were true. He did know who killed some of these men. To her a dead body was just that it didn't matter to much what he or she did in live it all came down to the flesh and bones laying in front of her right then. But the man beside her didn't want to leave out a single thing he or who had killed the person did to them. Some of the time death had been a quick easy way to go. But for most death had been the welcome change.
"What joy did you take in seeing them die I wonder?" Sweets asked the room.
"Oh it was joy alright. At least after the first three or so that is." The mans words making the already sick feeling in everyone's stomach get a ton worse.
"What could this woman or this young woman have done to you to make their deaths enjoyable?" Cam asked a second later regretting the question.
"Oh yea this mom liked to get dirty she had a thing for going down on men and women. She really did a great head job." His words once again making the doctors in the room wish that they were somewhere else. Any where else but here with him in fact. As he laid out the details of getting his rocks off then taking his time and slowly killing her after he had gotten his enjoyment. He told of the ways he had hurt her. Of how it had taken her so long to bleed out before she stopped breathing. How he then got off a second time using her body as his tool.
By night fall the lab had more then enough to catch some of the men in the gang. However the FBI was not going to let a chance like this get by them. They were going to make sure all the I's were dotted and all the T's were crossed. No matter how long this case took or how many men it would take down.
The next two weeks went by slowly and fast at the same time. The more things the team dug up the more wicked and wacked the man in front of them became. It wasn't long before a number of undercover and on the job agents and officers were being pulled in for questioning. Some of them were falsely accused but some of them were killers. In the end both Booth and Bones were gone for a month. It had worked out that a teacher had gotten relived of their job due to there own involvement in the cases at the lab.
After that month the team was ready for the partners to return and things get back to as normal as they could. However things weren't going to be the same for many months to come. The partners against their better judgment had agreed to take on the rest of the semester teaching these two classes. So that meant that it would be four maybe five more months that the team at the lab would be with out the top crime solving team. It also meant that it was four maybe five more months that they had to go over these cold/unsolved cases. Nothing was every cut in dry with these. Two weeks into them there new team member was chained to a chair from the moment he walked into the lab till the moment he left. Cullen wasn't going to take any chances with him. In fact it got to the point that not only was Sweet's allowed a gun at all times now but another agent who Cullen personally trusted was with the team at all times.
Parker spent a lot of his time with his mom and step dad. He would still spend a week with Booth and Bones then a week with his mom and step dad. The only thing that changed was the time he got up and where he would go before school. With out knowing it Bones had made her dad job to keep Parker safe easier on him. The week Parker stayed with them Max would come by and take him to school while the partners headed out to their own school. To Max's credit it did take Parker the better part of two months to know that he was being followed. If it hadn't been for the bullying Max watched happen Max wasn't sure he would have been found out then.
"Grandpa Max you can come out now." Parker had said when he was sure that the bully had left. Thus letting Max know that his friend was safe and while not alight with being followed he wasn't too mad about it.
"Why are you following me?" Parker had asked him later on that next morning.
"To keep you safe." Was the only answer he gave. However Parker knew that the team was working on something that his dad and Bones weren't a part of so he guessed it had more to do with the lab case then the one the partners were working on.
"Grandpa Max , now that mommy and daddy will still be teaching for the next few months does that mean you will still be following me?" Parker asked the morning after he had been told the change was going on.
"Dose it bother you that I do this?"
"NO, I like having someone close by. IT's just if your here with me then who's..." His un cried tears were in his voice making him stop short of what he was going to say. Max let him take a few minutes to compose himself before talking.
"Parker, let me ask you something okay?" At the boys nod he went on.
"Do you trust me?" Again the boys nod came and he went on.
"Do you trust your dad to keep him and your mom safe?" Some time back in the last few months Max had started to call Bones Parkers mom instead of her name.
"Yes, I trust you both."
"Then why are you worried about who's going to be safe. Booth would move Heaven and Earth to keep the ones he loves safe. You know the same goes for me. But keeping mom safe isn't what you wanted to know is it?" This time no nod or response was given.
"Parker, what is really bothering you?" IT was only after ten minutes of silence his answer was given.
"I'm worried that the man who hurt her the most will get off now that he's helping the team find other killers in Law enforcement. That the man or woman who is suppose to be keeping dad and mom safe is really trying to kill them. That no matter how hard I try no on is safe. I can't hold a gun and shoot them."
"NO, you can't Parker. No one in life is as safe as we would like. Someone is always getting hurt or killed. It's the knowledge that there is something greater then us out there that keeps me sane. "
"You mean God?" His shake voiced asked.
"God or the universe which ever you believe in. I know that Temp doesn't believe like your dad and I do. But there is still something out there she does believe in."
"I don't know what to think." Again the tears in his voice heard but not falling down his face.
"I don't know if I Believe in God or anything higher anymore."
"You do. Son you know I love you. You also know I don't lie to you. Right?"
"Not to sound all Sweet's on you but this past year you have changed a lot. In a lot of ways your incents is no longer here. You have had to endure things that even I have never had to and trust me when I say this I have seen a lot. But there is a God."
"No, there isn't or why did he let this happen to us. Why not find a way to get these cases closed the bad guys in jail and nothing else to go wrong why did he let mom get hurt like that why?"
"I don't have the answer's son in fact you may never know the answers but, I can tell you this there must be a God how else would you explain Temp letting me back into her life. Or that yes she and you were hurt but your both still here to tell others what to look out for. Nothing has happened to make me stop believing that God is there. Sometimes things don't go our way but that doesn't mean he's not there or loving us any less. IT may just be a lesson we have to learn or something that has to happen so that good may come later." Max sat with a silent Parker for the rest of the morning and it was only after dropping the boy off at school that he shot a text to the real person Parker had needed to talk to that morning.
