In a Land Far, Far Away
A/N: I know a lot of people are still waiting on the next chapter of "The Princess' Rogue", but I needed a break from that story and this is what happened. This is my entry for the RWBY Summer Contest 2015 being held on Deviantart. Due to the nature of this drabble, expect some minor OoCness from our favorite characters. XD
Just a warning, there is some mild language in this drabble.
Enjoy!

Guest – Sorry for the delayed reply. As you can see, I'm still writing for this, but it's just on hiatus at the moment. You have an interesting idea going on there. While I will consider it, I can make no promises. I already have a back log of one shots for this drabble that I intend to write, so I'm not sure I'll ever get around to that. Thanks for the reading! :)
Disclaimer: The characters and the worlds I write in do not belong to me. The stories that I write are intended for entertainment purposes. I do not make any money from them.
Summary: It was the first day of summer. And it was hot. For everyone else except a certain blonde bombshell named Yang Xiao Long, that is. Then Blake walked out of the shower, and Yang realized she wasn't so immune to the heat after all. Yang x Blake. Humor.
*** ~ In the Heat of the Summer ~ ***
It was the first day of summer.
And it was hot.
For everyone else except a certain blonde bombshell named Yang Xiao Long, that is.
Having a semblance which usually manifested in the form of fire and brimstone, Yang quickly found she was immune to the effects of extreme heat, the brawler often teasing her teammates about their inability to do the same.
So when the air conditioning system for the entirety of Beacon decided to die on this particular day, for who knows what reasons, it wasn't all that surprising when Yang began heckling her teammates about the heat. It was just unfortunate for the W in Team RWBY, the Schnee heiress being the first of Yang's victims this afternoon, solely because she was the only other person in the dorm aside from the blonde currently.
Well, that wasn't exactly true. Blake was in the shower just a few rooms away, but the Faunus was not here as in this-very-room-right-now here, so the sword wielder didn't count.
"What's the matter, Weiss?" Yang said, the blonde sitting atop her bed, a magazine in hand. Wearing her typical sleep wear, that being her yellow tank top and black shorts, Yang grinned at the heiress from above, not the least bit repentant.
"Hot under the collar?"
Dressed in a similar outfit to her fiery counterpart, that being a light blue tank top and white shorts, Weiss glared at the brawler from her desk chair, an array of papers and textbooks covering the top of the rapier wielder's desk. With the air conditioning out of commission for an undisclosed amount of time (Beacon's repair staff were working on the issue, or so they were told), locks of platinum white were done up in a messy bun for a change, a means of keeping most of Weiss' hair away from her neck. Couple that with the occasional breeze which blew through the team's wide open window, that left Weiss as cool as a cucumber despite the circumstances. Or at least, she tried to be. Sadly, the last time a breeze had graced their dorm room was almost ten minutes ago, a sheen of sweat now visibly seen on the white haired girl's pale skin.
"Don't you have more important things to do right now?" Weiss snapped, irritated. "Like say that history paper due for Dr. Oobleck's class in two days?"
"Nah," Yang said, waving at Weiss dismissively. Her gaze quickly returned to her magazine again, the blonde turning the page.
"Why waste my time doing that now when I can read about The Achieve Men instead?"
Too hot to argue right now, Weiss rolled her eyes as she turned back to her homework, the white haired girl muttering under her breath about the stupid heat, stupid boys and their stupid bands all the while.
"Oh put a sock in it, Princess," Yang said, giving the shorter girl a look. She may not have been able to decipher the heiress' grumpy mutterings, but it didn't take a rocket scientist to know Weiss was no fan of the summer heat.
"Stop your whining and deal with it. Ruby will be back with our drinks any moment now. And when she does, we can all sit down, and you can just... chill."
A shit eating grin.
"Yang-" Weiss said nearly growling, her frigid glare once again fixed upon the boisterous blonde. Before any further verbal barbs could be traded however, the door to their dorm room opened, revealing a freshly showered Blake Belladonna.
"Heya Blakey!" Yang greeted, pulling her gaze away from the fuming heiress. Opening her mouth to say something punny, Yang forget everything she was going to say the moment she locked eyes with her partner.
There were many ways to cool down in this heat. Ruby went to get the team smoothies from the cafeteria, with Zwei in tow. Weiss opened the window to let the breeze in. Yang did nothing out of the ordinary. But Blake, the cat Faunus opted to take a cool shower, one which left Yang absolutely stunned.
Dressed in her usual pajamas, that being her black yukata with grey and white accents, Blake was the epitome of beauty, especially now that her blasted bow was nowhere to be seen, her feline ears being shown off in all their glory. This, of course, was nothing Yang hadn't seen before (Blake showered every day after all), yet something was definitely different about the Faunus right now, something Yang couldn't quite put her finger on. Trying not to be a total creep, Yang fought with herself not to gawk at her partner for longer than necessary. Yet, despite her best efforts, she still did, Yang staring shamelessly as her gaze followed the former White Fang member around the room.
Using the white towel wrapped around the back of her neck to dry off her still wet hair, Blake gave Yang a brief smile and nod at her greeting, the ninja quietly closing the dorm room door behind her. Secure in the privacy of their room once more, the Faunus walked passed their shared bunk beds in favor of the mini fridge they had, somehow completely oblivious to Yang's blatant ogling. The mini fridge, which sat next to the closet on Ruby and Weiss' side of the room, was a gift from Taiyang, it also coming in the mail just weeks after Zwei did.
Yang swallowed thickly the moment her partner and teammate bent over to open the mini fridge. Currently containing a wide assortment of chilled drinks including juice, soda and water, there was no doubt in Yang's mind it was the latter of the three which Blake sought as she reached inside the small appliance. What the black haired girl inevitably chose in the end Yang wouldn't remember, the brawler currently too distracted with the full and clear view of the Faunus' flawless legs (ones Yang swore went on for miles) and cute bum. Had her partner also had a tail on her, as some Faunus did, Yang would have passed out right then and there from a full on nosebleed. Thankfully for her, the gods were merciful to her, and that was not the case. Weiss' presence on the other hand, had been entirely forgotten at this point, the white haired girl having not said a word since the B in Team RWBY entered the room.
Her magazine now forgotten, Yang watched opened mouthed as Blake straightened up, twisted off the cap to her bottle, and tilted her head backwards to gulp down large mouthfuls of water. The motion of swallowing drew Yang's hungry gaze to the exposed skin of the Faunus' throat, the brawler almost forgetting how to breathe when a drop of condensation (which had quickly formed on the bottle after it was taken from the fridge due to the heat) fell from the bottom of the water bottle and splashed down on the middle of Blake's partially exposed chest.
Surprised by this sudden drop of coldness, Blake shivered mid swallow, Yang's throat going dry as her partner's well-endowed bosom jiggled in that action. Unblinking lavender coloured eyes stayed with the water drop as it continued its journey down the Faunus' chest, the condensation eventually disappearing between the valley of Blake's breasts. Unconsciously licking her lips, Yang both hated and envied that water drop right now, hated how it had the audacity to touch her beloved partner in such a manner, and envied it because of the same reason.
Blake, having had her fill of water for now, lowered the half empty water bottle after a few seconds, the Faunus licking her lips as she capped the bottle. Just like with the water drop, the moment Yang spotted that small pink muscle, her gaze was immediately drawn to it, the blonde seriously wondering if her partner's tongue had the same texture as a cat's. Realizing how quickly her thoughts were going downhill, Yang immediately tore her gaze away from the black haired girl, heat blossoming across her cheeks. Pulling at the front of her tank top, she swiped at her sweaty forehead with the back of her hand, her breaths coming out heavier than normal.
Whew-wee! Was the temperature outside rising or what? Usually the heat never bothered Yang, but she was really starting to feel it now. Maybe she wasn't as immune to it as she originally thought. Or perhaps, there was a different reason for this kind of reaction.
For months now, Yang denied her growing feelings for her partner. She hadn't realized what was happening at first, the brawler simply chalking up her attention to the little details of Blake's life (like her favorite foods and what type of books she often read) as simply getting to know the Faunus better. But rather than stop at that, Yang quickly found herself willingly spending more and more time with the sword wielder, often feeling a spark of excitement when they occasionally brushed hands as they walked side by side in the hallways or bumped shoulders when they sat next to each other in class. It wasn't until she caught herself doing everything she could to make the former White Fang member smile and laugh did she realize just how deeply she had fallen for her partner. And ever since that day, she battled to keep her growing affections a secret, Yang too afraid to confess to the girl she loved, out of fear she'd ruin their friendship if Blake didn't feel the same way.
Bah! As if that was the real reason she was feeling all hot and bothered right now. Yeah right! It was probably just all this stagnant heat.
"Yang?"
The said blonde jolted backwards with a yelp, suddenly finding herself face to face with her partner, not even an arm's length separating them. So caught up in her thoughts, she failed to notice when the ninja closed the distance between them, the Faunas now using her own bed as a step ladder of sorts to look at Yang level in the face.
"Yang," Blake repeated, her brow furling. "Are you alright? Your face is red."
Yang would have answered that question if she could, but between the heat getting to her and the up close and personal view she was getting of her partner's gracious chest, stringing together a coherent response was just a bit difficult. Maybe she was seeing things, but Yang could have sworn Blake was showing more skin than usual, the neckline of her partner's yukata lower than Yang had ever seen it before, the hem of the garment riding up the Faunus' thigh high enough for the brawler to see the edge of the girl's black, lace panties.
"Yang?" the cat Faunus said again, frowning even more. "Are you sick?"
Hoisting herself up onto Yang's bed in one fluid motion, the blonde watched gobsmacked as the black haired girl slowly and agonizingly (to Yang at least) crawled up to her on all fours, Blake's thighs eventually straddling Yang's own, the Faunus only stopping her advance when she was close enough to press a hand to Yang's forehead. That was the straw which broke the camel's back however, Yang taking one look at Blake's breasts (a mere two inches away from her face she instantly noted), the Faunus' chest just a hair away from spilling out of her yukata, before she lurched backwards and away from the sword wielder in a panic. Misjudging the width of her bed, Yang quickly tumbled over the side of it and hit the floor on her back not even two seconds later.
THUD!
"Yang!" Blake exclaimed, the Faunus' head and upper body quickly popping over the edge of her bed to look down at her.
"I-It's all good!" Yang said, shooting up to her feet again, jittery. "I'm fine! N-Nothing to worry about…"
Yang's heart pounded maniacally in her chest, her thoughts jumbled and all over the place as she tried to make some sense of what was happening.
"Are you sure?" the cat Faunus questioned, bringing up her legs to the edge of the bed to jump off.
Yang's response was immediate. Skittering backwards until her back hit the wall, Yang bolted around their makeshift bunk beds the moment the black haired girl was airborne, ending up on the opposite side of the beds with the beds between them by the time Blake's feet touched the floor.
"O-Oh yeah!" Yang stuttered, her cheeks burning hot. "N-Nothing to worry about. I'm just... uh... just hot. You know? Man, is it hot outside."
Faux fanning herself with her hand, Yang backed up a few more steps to maintain the distance between herself and her partner, Blake wasting no time in walking around their beds to meet the brawler in the middle of the room.
"Yang-" Blake started, reaching out a hand to the clearly frazzled blonde.
"I need to shower!" Yang exclaimed, pointing in a random direction to her side. Looking momentarily to the right, to Yang's relief, her finger was aimed directly at the dorm room door, the blonde's gaze quickly snapping back to her partner the moment she noticed movement in her peripherals.
"Well," Blake said, giving Yang a half smile.
Yang's heart fluttered in her throat at that smile.
"If you're sure," the Faunus continued, unaware of just how badly she was affecting the brawler.
"Oh I'm sure!" Yang said almost immediately, the blonde doing an about face and walking face first into the corner of Ruby's precariously hanging bed in her haste to escape.
With a hand on her now red and throbbing nose, she quickly turned back to her partner with a sheepish smile, Yang giving the Faunus an awkward half wave before she sprinted to the dorm door only pausing long enough to yank it open. The moment the door was out of the way, Yang was off running again, the blonde not stopping until she made it to the communal shower room seconds later. Immediately making her way to the farther stall from the main door, Yang quickly turned on the shower, drenching herself in frigid water, clothes and all. Sucking in a shuddering breath, and not because of the temperature of the water, Yang vowed not to leave this place until all the cold water ran dry.
Contrary to popular belief, the summer heat didn't bother Blake so much.
"You did that on purpose."
Sure, due to the colour of her hair and often her choice of outfit, the heat could be uncomfortable at times, but it was not like Blake hated it completely. Not when her partner reminded her so much of the sun.
Pulling her gaze away from the gaping wide open dorm door, Blake turned to face the only other person still in the room with her. A one, currently unimpressed, Weiss Schnee.
"I don't know what you're talking about," the ninja said, a small smirk stretching across her lips. Readjusting her top, to prevent her chest from actually popping out any moment now, Blake deftly unrolled the hem of her yukata not a second afterwards, the garment now hanging just short of her knee as it should be.
"Oh please," Weiss said, the heiress setting her pen down and turning to face her teammate. "You're not as subtle as you think Belladonna."
"Oh my," Blake said, her smirk blossoming into a full blown Cheshire grin. "Using last names are we? This must be serious."
"Spare me the act," Weiss said, clearly annoyed. "You're a much better book worm than you are an actress."
The black haired girl chuckled at that comment, Blake rubbing the last remnants water out of her hair with the towel still hanging around her neck.
"Fine, you got me," the former White Fang member said. "So what? What about it? You have a problem with that?"
Weiss sighed in exasperation, rubbing her eyes with her thumb and middle finger.
"Honestly," the white haired girl muttered. "I don't know who's worse. You or your brute of a partner."
Blake laughed again, dropping her towel in favour of walking over to her desk to nab her half full bottle of water from where she had left it.
"Please," the sword wielder said twisting her drink open again. "Compared to some of the things Yang, and Ruby might I add, have already gotten up to this semester, this was nothing. And it wasn't like Yang wasn't asking for it either. You of all people knows what she is like."
Blake took another gulp of water before setting her bottle down on her desk again.
"Besides," the Faunus continued. "It's not like you're any better."
"Excuse me?!" Weiss exclaimed, twisting around to face her teammate again, the heiress having been in the middle of turning back to her homework. "And just what is that supposed to mean?"
Blake grinned, the type of grin which raised alarm bells in the rapier wielder's head.
"I've seen the way you've looked at Ruby as of late," the ninja said, Weiss' eyes widening at that statement. "See something you like?"
Weiss nearly choked on her tongue at that comment, the white haired girl frantically fighting back the flush creeping up her cheeks.
"I-I've no idea what you're talking about," the sputtering girl said, once she got her wits about her. The heiress crossed her arms across his chest in defiance, looking to the side, refusing to meet Blake's amused gaze.
"Uh huh," the Faunus said, clearly not buying the act. "Sure you don't."
"Are you calling me a liar?!" Weiss rounded on Blake, those brilliant blue eyes filled with fury.
"Nope," Blake said nonchalantly. "Not at all. It's just that-"
"It's just what?!" the white haired girl cut her off, Weiss' cheeks puffed out indignantly.
"Oh nothing…" the former White Fang member said, a smile gracing her lips. "I'm sure I'm just imagining things. You know, because of the summer heat."
A/N: Well... that was a thing. Lol.
And just how did the entire AC system for Beacon go down? I'll let your imaginations figure that one out. :P
School in Canada does not end until the end of June. With Summer officially starting June 20th, I modelled the girls' school term after the Canadian education system. And hence why they are still doing work into the Summer.
For those of you wondering, "The Princess' Rogue" next chapter will be posted up next weekend.
On another note, this drabble series is still on hiatus until I say otherwise.
