Chapter 14: Will she be okay, Miss Ashlee?
-Ashlee's POV-
She let out scream. A scream that sent shivers down my spine. A scream that no Pokémon, or human, would ever be able to utter. But she did it all right.
Kate screamed as all the energy that she once had disappeared out of her body. But it was in the worst of times. When she lost all that energy, that drive, she was in the battle. A battle that would either be life or death.
And it was a horrible time, when the tides had turned for the enemy's favor.
She lay limp on the ground, taking every brutal hit and throw the citizens of Legend town throw.
"KATE!" I scream, over, and over, and over again. Until my throat becomes numb.
Tears streak down my face as I am helpless, held back the Kecleon brothers. Despite my protests and pleas they hold strong, keeping an even face. But every now and then when Kate would take a brutal hit, sympathy would appear, and then as fast as it appear it would disappear.
"You know?" Kate manages to choke out. "Killing me wouldn't help this world. This forsaken world. Nothing can ever help you. Not even the legendries. So go ahead. Kill me. I deserve to die, apparently. And then you will finally see I am not the enemy here. SO just go ahead and get it over with!" She coughs and a red liquid is splatted on the ground. But the air is already thick with metallic scent.
The Pokémon seem to hesitate at her comment.
But then Gengar comes along to ruin it all. "Kekekekehehhehehe! What are you all waiting for? She even said it herself! Now is your perfect chance! Kill her!"
When the Pokémon don't move, Gengar pushes them aside and raises his hand to strike.
But his hand is not his usual purple one. Slowly it glows a sinister neon blue. Then he does in for the kill.
I scream, knowing that playing out before my eyes will be Kate's death. My only best friend will die right before me, and it will be all my fault. Because I couldn't do anything to protect her, I'm sorry Kate. Even though I made a promise to you, no, a promise to myself, that I will always protect you. I have failed, and I'm sorry. Please, please forgive me. I scream again.
Gengar's hand is swooping down from above, almost about to kill my only friend. When….
"STOP!" A voice thunders through the crowd. And when Gengar's strike is about to become deadly, it hits a barrier. Someone used protect, preventing to the blow to strike.
Gengar turns and instantly becomes pale. "Alakazam, sir."
The ultimate psychic type walks in, with his team mates; Charizard and Tyranitar.
"W-what are you doing here sirs?" Gengar stutters.
"There seems to be a disturbance." The psychic type replies.
"Yes sir, that exactly it! You see, we were just trying to fix the little problem." Gengar mumbles.
The protect wears off and Alakzam walks over to Kate. He stares down at her bloodied body.
"Whose idea was it to kill this poor girl?" He asks, not looking at anyone.
No one says anything.
"But sir, she was the human of the Ninetails legend! She must be killed!" Gengar protests.
A single tear streaks down Alakazam's face. But then as soon as it appeared it is gone. "If that is so. She must be terminated."
The crowd grew into an uproar with joy.
"But." He interrupted. "We give her a day."
"A day?" Snubbul asked. "For what?"
"A day for her to live. A chance for her to prove she is not the human from the legend. A opportunity for her to live to see another sun rise and sunset." Alakazam answered simply.
"But why?" Lombre countered.
Alakazam turned and stared at Lombre. "If you her, wouldn't you want a chance to prove yourself. To prove you are not who everyone says you are?"
"Well…..Yeah. When you out it that way." Lombre responded.
"Then it is settled. Tomorrow morning this Charmander is no longer a friend. But a criminal. Wanted under any circumstances. Dead or alive." He finalized and turned away, walking away from the scene.
"You two are relieved of your duties. Release Miss Ashlee at once." He said to the Kecleon brothers.
They let go and immediately I ran to Kate's side. She was in worst condition then I thought.
"Kate." I nudged her. "Kate, Kate, please, wake up. Please. Please. Kate."
Her eyes remained closed, and not a muscle moved. I knew that no Pokémon alive would help. Not after the whole scene. But what would I do? I pressed my ear against Kate's chest, faintly, very faintly there was a heartbeat. She wasn't dead, well, not yet.
"Kate." I nudged her again. "Please wake up."
There yet again was no response.
Tears began to rain down my face and land on the dirt below.
"Kate, please…" I cried.
"Come on dear," A voice said soothingly from behind me.
"Miss Ashlee, why are you crying?" Another voice asked.
I quickly wiped away the tears, and turned to face the voices behind me.
Butterfree and Caterprie stood there, looking up at me concerned.
"Do you need some help dear?" Butterfree asked.
That was when I broke down into a sob.
"Please, please Miss Ashlee don't cry!" Caterprie said, trying to cheer me up.
"Yes." I replied in between sobs. "Yes I do."
After that we all managed to drag Kate back to base, without causing her anymore pain that she was already in.
I let out a sigh. "Thank you."
"I better get going before any of the other Pokémon see me helping." Butterfree confessed, and then left.
"Is she going to be okay?" Caterprie asked, all innocent.
I put on a fake smile, "of course Caterprie, why wouldn't she be?"
"Well…" He pondered.
"Don't you think it's a little late to be out? You know your mother is going to worry. Don't you think you better head on home?" I asked, trying to get him to leave.
"OH gosh!" He exclaimed. "Look at the time! I better get a move on! Bye Miss Ashlee. Bye Miss Kate!" Then he disappeared out the door.
I quietly took Kate's hand, it was cold and was covered in dried blood.
"Please, Kate. Wake up." I softly wept.
"Ashlee….?"
