Author's note: Ok, everything which happens in this chapter is totally made up by me. It has nothing to do with the real catching of the Yotsuba Kira beside the catching itself. I never wanted to describe it in the way it was worked out in the real story, after all. And here it's not really important who the third Kira is, he's never named.

'This fucking Shinigami doesn't want to tell me the name of our third Kira' Light snapped in anger. 'He knows who is the murderer but he won't share this knowledge with me. Sometimes he is so useless!' He and L were sitting in a car going to the Yotsuba Group's headquarters with the initiated part of the investigation team - Watari, Soichiro Yagami and Mogi.

'Are you sure that he really knows, Raito-kun?' L asked chewing his thumb.

'100 percent of my sureness, Ryuuzaki' Light gritted his teeth. 'But Ryuk claims that telling me is against the Shinigami rules or something like that.'

'I have my suspicions, Raito-kun. It has to be enough.' L said slowly.

'This is our only chance of getting him' Light snorted. 'If we don't succeed, he will be prepared for the next time and we will be probably killed by him then.' The boy sighed clenching his fists. 'The only thing I know for sure is that he doesn't have the Shinigami eyes.'

'What makes you as convinced about it?' The detective took a look at the teen sitting next to him.

'If he had, then Watari would have been already dead. He would have been already eliminated. Yet, he still is among the living.' Light explained.

'So this means good news, I assume' Ryuuzaki replied trying to ignore the uncomfortable pressure of the suit he was forced to be wearing. They were supposed to pretend to be the group of journalists willing to interview Yotsuba workers because of the amazingly high rating of their stocks - they were the only one corporation which had achieved that much during that year. The other companies were constantly drowning in losses and debts.

'Relax, Ryuuzaki' Light said calmly noticing the detective's discomfort. 'You have to act naturally so that they won't realize before it has been too late for them.'

'I know' L said harshly. 'There won't be any problems with it, I can assure. It's just... that bloody suit' he blurted out. 'It's so damn uncomfortable! How Raito-kun is able to remain untouched while wearing something like that?'

Light chuckled pecking L's cheek and grasping his hand.

'You are here the only one who claims so, Ryuuzaki. We all are completely used to dress up in elegant clothes. Personally, I don't even mind suits. But you look quite unusual, L. I really have to admit it' he clasped their fingers still smiling and observing the detective in black pants and jacket, white shirt, tie and leather shoes. 'Remember about not huddling when we go there' the boy reminded. 'You have to look professionally.'

'I've already told Raito-kun not to worry' L mumbled turning his head away from the teen and looking through the darkened pane of the window.

I am not as socially retarded as you might think, Light.

...

'Let me be the one who will be talking' Light asked staring intensively at the ravenous detective. 'You know how good at it I am.' They were slowly approaching the big skyscraper of the Youtsuba's Group headquarters. 'You can concentrate on searching for Kira while I'm distracting those cheaters.'

'I know what I am supposed to do, Raito-kun. You'd better focus on your part and I will be grateful' L snapped. He had never been that uptight before.

Light decided not to fall for the catch knowing that it wasn't a good time for starting a row and decided to keep his mouth shut. He and Ryuuzaki were going as the firsts and the rest of the team was following them carrying all the recording equipment. Light was holding a microphone because he was to lead the fake interview. Everybody but L had wry smiles across their faces pretending to be just a group of journalists willing to question a bit the leading company on the stock.

'And remember: do not huddle or chew on your thumb' Light whispered by a corner of his mouth.

Ryuuzaki barely prevented himself from an unpleasant comment keeping in mind that the boy only wanted to be helpful. Yet he didn't like being told what to do. The gate opened before them and a man in a suit came outside with a smile plastered to his face.

'Ah, you must be the Sakura TV crew, am I right?' His voice was filled with excessive joy. 'Let me escort you to the room appropriate for interviewing...' He made a gesture of welcoming and led them through the enormous corridors to a room with long conference table. 'Prepare yourself and I'll come for our president. I am sure he's already getting ready for the interview.' Saying that the man with fake smile left the room.

Light looked around and quickly noticed two cameras in the corners of the room. He couldn't be sure but it was highly probable that they could register sound as well. It does not benefit us..., the teen thought narrowing his eyes.

'I want it to be already over' he suddenly heard from behind his father's voice. The boy turned around to face Soichiro.

'It soon will be' Light smiled softly hiding away all his doubts and giving his dad a restorative look. It must have occurred quite convincing because the man smiled back with hope in the eyes.

At this time a tall man in elegant clothes entered the room. He seemed not to be very old, around 40 as Light estimated. His hair was blond and he had a slight bristle. He wasn't Japanese for sure, the boy suspected that he could be German.

'Good morning, gentlemen' the president said loudly with heavy accent which confirmed the teen in belief that the man came from Germany. 'What a lovely day for an interview, wouldn't you agree?' He sent them his perfect smile. 'Shall we start then?'

Light put on his charming smile coming closer to the man and starting his questions. During that time Ryuuzaki was observing closely the German from behind the camera. The more he was watching him, the more his conviction of the innocence of this man was growing. He seemed to be completely harmless.

That means that our Kira is hiding somewhere else..., the detective thought maintaining stony expression. But where he could be...?

It's high time for the plan B.

L gave Light the prearranged sign letting him know that the president of the company wasn't their criminal. The boy understood and brought to life their next tactic.

'Maybe we could go for a walk a little?' He asked with a charming smile. 'This building is completely breathtaking. Everybody would love to see more than just this room...' He used his low tone knowing full well that absolutely nobody could stay insensitive for his charm.

The German man wasn't the exception and widened his smile agreeing at once, falling into the teen's trap. Light already knew that he got him at his feet.

Ryuuzaki made a pressing gesture to the rest of the team, urging them to follow the boy with the president who'd just vanished behind the door.

'I am truly amazed by the splendor of this décor' Light did his best not to wince and maintain the stony expression but it wasn't easy providing that the German man was sending him curious looks and was walking way too close to the boy.

'Oh, yes. This room is our true pride' the president grinned proudly peeking at the huge chamber.

'Am I seeing correctly? Are there weapons in the show-cases?' Light pointed across the room at the little exhibition. German turned to the right direction and slowly nodded.

'Perfect sight, as I can say. Yes, indeed. It's only for decoration but I can reveal you that they all are loaded...' The man bent forward the teen blinking meaningfully. Light barely prevented himself from a shiver as he felt the other's breath over his face. Jesus, what a hideous pervert!

'Can I have a look?' The boy asked bravely backing carefully to a safe distance.

'Actually, why not?' The German chuckled and led him closer towards the show-cases.

Ryuuzaki was clenching his fists until his knuckles became completely white. He wanted to break the fucking nose of that German guy who was obviously trying to seduce his Light. He couldn't stand the sight of this blonde pervert leaning to the teen but had to compose his anger so it wouldn't bother the most important thing - finding Kira.

'And you say that they are truly loaded?' Light asked being actually really interested.

'Yes, they are. But you know...' The man's voice turned into a quiet whisper. 'This is rather a secret, you understand?'

The teen nodded, quickly withdrawing from the disgusting pervert and feeling that his heart was speeding. But in the opposite to the usual reason for that (Ryuuzaki, of course) this time wasn't pleasant at all - it was rather scary.

At that moment someone new came into the room.

'Excuse me, Mr. president but we have an important call for you...' The rest was muffled by a sudden rushing of the blood in the teen's ears.

Oh, fuck..., he thought seeing who was standing behind the back of the newcomer...

He'd known beforehand that he was going to meet her again but still it was quite shocking to see that figure just in front of that man.

'Rem...' He whispered turning pale on the face. Once she had been Misa's Shinigami but when the girl had resigned from the Death Note, she'd lost her memories connected with the Death Goddess and the ability to see her. Because Light had once touched Rem's Death Note, he was able to see her and thanks to that he gained the conviction that the man who had just entered the chamber was Kira.

Yet, it wasn't improving his own situation because this Shinigami hated him heatedly because of that matter with Misa. As weird as it sounds, she was in love with the girl and had been suffering of a broken heart since miss Amane has lost her memories. She had never admitted it but Light had figured it out a long time ago.

She should be grateful, the boy thought. No Shinigami was allowed to fall in love with a human if they didn't want to die... But apparently it had appeared that instead of feeling gratefulness, she had come to hate the teen and promised herself that one day she would get her revenge by taking away his happiness.

The Death Goddess goggled her eyes recognizing the boy and her face quickly turned into a grimace making her even uglier than she already was.

'What is it?' He barely heard L's question not being able to turn his sight away from the Shinigami. She was following Kira like a shadow, her horrifying eyes were piercing through the teen with pure fury. Light involuntarily grasped Ryuuzaki's hand feeling dryness in his mouth.

And only then he realized his great mistake when it had been already too late.

Rem noticed their clasped hands and slowly her lips widened in a cruel parody of a smile. She whispered something to the Death Note keeper not turning her sight away from the frozen boy. Her eyes were shining madly and her sharp teeth became visible between her slightly parted lips.

When Kira raised his head looking directly at them two, Light knew what was going to happen but still couldn't move as if he'd been under an influence of some hard spell.

Kira's lips widened in a malicious grin and he nodded quickly reaching for something from his trousers' pocket. A little piece of white sheet...

Light had no time to waste. It was way too late to call for anybody's help - there was only him who could prevent the catastrophe. Without any farther thinking, he dropped the microphone pushing L away and turned to the show-cases. Not caring about self-harm, he raised his fists and hit the hard glass with all the power he'd managed to gather. The pane broke into a million of tiny pieces. Each of them sharp as a knife. The boy screamed in horrific pain as the glass cut deeply his hands and wrists but ignored it reaching for a gun and feeling the buzzing adrenaline filling his veins. He didn't even notice the streams of blood flowing down his arms and sinking into his shirt's sleeves, dying them crimson red.

But when he turned around again with a loaded weapon, he realized the terrible truth - he was late. Kira was already writing that name on the paper.

The teen screamed piercingly firing at the man but the bullet missed its target. He didn't even notice that Rem was already burning slowly turning into ashes.

It didn't matter. All that mattered was the fact that he'd missed and that L was falling down onto the floor with eyes tightly shut.

'No!' Light dropped the gun falling onto his knees near the unconscious detective feeling that everything was spinning around. 'No, L, no!' He grasped Ryuuzaki's pale cheeks feeling huge drops flowing down his cheeks and a sob caught in his throat.

Why is it so cold here...?, he thought swallowing the immeasurable amount of tears. All he could see was the pale face of L who was lying still on the floor. Soon, he stopped seeing even that terrifying view. Everything went dark. Light lost the contact with reality falling heavily near the detective.

He had no idea what had actually happened. He hadn't noticed that Kira had been already dead because of being shot in the chest. And he had no idea that the murderer had died before he'd finished writing that name...
