The sound of an alarm was piercing through the safe space she'd created. It was like her phone was screaming at her for being a fool. Arizona reached over to her bedside table and turned the noise off. As she did the arm around her body held her a little closer. She allowed herself to be pulled close to the other woman's body but tried to explain that they'd have to get out of bed soon.

"The alarm means we need to move."

There was no verbal reply, only a kiss to her neck. The lips lingered there and Arizona almost convinced herself, if even just for a second, that this wasn't a big deal. She'd left Seattle five days ago. She'd watched Callie as the elevator doors had closed. Little did she know what a catalyst it would be. Now she was naked in bed with a woman she had believed she would never sleep with again.

Her head was spinning.

What did this mean?

"Relax." The voice spoke from behind her. "I told you last night that we'd figure things out. I want to be with you. You said that you wanted this too."

"I know."

"Did you mean it?"

"Yes."

"I love you Arizona." It was a promise.

"We're gonna have to face the rest of the world."

"It's none of their business."

"I don't want to confuse Sofia anymore. It's not fair on her."

"She'll be okay. First we focus on you. You should tell Haynes about the dream."

"Oh crap. I have to tell her that this happened."

"Yeah." The other woman agreed as she pulled Arizona onto her back moved her body over her. She smiled down and watched Arizona physically relax and return the smile.

The peds surgeon raised her hand and pushed a couple of locks of hair back behind her lover's ear before kissing her slowly. She pulled back after a moment.

"I need to go get ready for work." Arizona pointed out.

"Take a day to spend with me."

"I have an appointment with Haynes anyway. Besides board members can't just "take a day"."

"Fine." The woman above her relented. "I'll go get Sofia ready." Before she could get out of bed two hands gripped her shoulders and Arizona kissed her again.

"I love you Calliope."

When Arizona got back from visiting her parents, the evening before, she had intended on going straight to bed. However just as she had gotten changed there was a loud knocking on her door. What she found on her doorstep was Callie holding her daughter. As soon as Sofia's feet hit the floor she was running around talking to nobody in particular.

Callie though wasn't saying anything and Arizona just blinked at her. The brunette clearly wasn't ready to explain why she was there. They hadn't planned on when Sofia would next spend the night with Arizona on account of her being away.

Eventually the blonde decided to focus on Sofia and wait for Callie to explain. She sat on the sofa and pulled the little girl onto her lap. The ortho surgeon finally entered the house and also sat in the living room. She watched Arizona talk and laugh with their daughter, both catching the other up on the last five days. When Sofia grew tired she watched Arizona lead the girl upstairs. She noticed the blonde was struggling slightly on her prosthetic and was visibly in pain but she kept a smile on for Sofia.

After a while Callie followed them to Sofia's bedroom as she realised that in her silence she'd not said goodnight to her daughter. She stood in the doorway.

"Goodnight baby girl." Arizona said as she kissed her forehead. "I love you." She left the room and let Callie say goodnight.

The brunette found her wife in her bedroom. She had removed her pyjama pants and leg and was sat on the bed. Still saying nothing Callie moved into the room and knelt in front of her, placing her hands on the sore muscle. It took Arizona by surprise.

"What are you doing Callie?"

"Just let me." She replied, lifting her eyes to meet the blonde's. When there were no further questions she began to massage the flesh but she didn't take her eyes away from Arizona's.

There was silence between them. Arizona was confused as to what was going on. She did not know what was going through Callie's mind. She had wanted space. Things had gotten heated when they last spoke. Now though she had turned up on her doorstep and not just to drop of their child. Callie had stayed. She was closer to Arizona than she had been in months, physically at least and the blonde was unsure how to act. She knew what she wanted to do but she also knew that she couldn't. Her wife was no longer her wife. It wasn't the same even if Arizona recognised the look of love in those dark eyes. Something told her that Callie wanted to talk. That she had something to say but as of yet had been in no hurry to share it.

Slowly the hands stopped their healing work and Callie failed to blink back a tear.

"Arizona..."
