Celestial Flames Ch. 14 Story: War of the Damned
Alright, people here is the new chapter it a lot shorted than I usually would like but still I think its pretty good anyway enjoy.
"How many times must I tell you not to overexert yourself, while injured!"
"Let me be, old women!"
"Quiet you!" the elderly pink haired woman yelled throwing powerful punch over the old man's head. "Uh... Miss Porlyusica, don't you think your being a bit too harsh on the Master?" Mest said sweat-dropping trying to save the master from farther abuse. The woman snapped at him with glowing eyes, "You have no say in this; it is his fault for walking on his own after the recent incident. A few days ago, he jumped off the cliff to watch those nuisances fight! Now, unless you want the same treatment, I'd advise you to meet up with the rest of your halogen human guildmates." Mest was sweating with a nervous smile, then nodded, as he gave Makarov a sympathetic smile before flashing away. Leaving the old man with an utter expression of betrayal on his face. Now the elderly master and medical woman were left alone in the guild's recovery room.
Makarov sat in one of the many beds still expressing his betrayal while Porlyusica walked over to a table and began to make a medicinal potion. "You know, you'll end up killing yourself," The pink haired woman said softly in her hoarse voice. Her voice was quiet; almost unable to be heard, yet at these words Makarov became serious. "My children, they've been through so much…" the 8th said looking down at his lap as if glaring at it, "I want to show them that I'm fine, I'll carry their pain for them. For them, I have to be-" "Dead?! Dead, because at this rate that is what you'll be! If you do not stop with the tricks as if you were a young man!" yelled Porlyusica, "You'll end up giving them more pain to add on! Think you fool!" This time though her anger was not comedically instead it was deadly serious.
"Makarov, how is it possible for you to help with their pain if you refuse to allow your body to recover from the damage it was put through. Makarov, we are not in our thirties, let alone in our teens. We can't do everything for ourselves anymore. We did our part when we were young and now its time to retire. Apart from Warrod, we are the oldest two in the guild."
"Porlyusica if you just-"
"No! You listen to me this time! We do not have the physical strength we once had, even if our magic power is still just as strong, what good will it do when we can't do anything with it. We couldn't use our magic for long periods of times without bending over with a stroke. How could having a stroke in the middle of battle help the guild members in an emergency!" The healer said slamming down her mixing bowl on the table. She then walked over to Makarov's bed taking a seat at the foot of the bed. She spoke in a calm voice, "Makarov, look at this guild, look closely at each and everyone. They are still young, yet they have more wisdom than most of those old farts so-called wizard saints. All that thanks to you; you've raised them as your children and as the saviors of the world. They have the power and intelligence to lead the magic world into an age of peace and pure…well fun. It is time to hand that heavy burden off our shoulders and onto theirs."
Makarov closed his eyes imagining all of his children. One by one each appeared, each with a smile. Lastly, Natsu showed up, 'Grams it's our pleasure, now relax, it on us now!' Tears began to flow from his old eyes and down his cheeks before speaking, "You're right. They have grown strong and wise. We have been at this far too long without a real rest." Then a rare but genuine smile appeared on Porlyusica's face, "Just because we retire doesn't mean we won't be around to help our guildmates."
[In the Fairy Tail's gym]
"Big sister Lucy!" yelled an overly excited girl upon seeing her sister. "Michelle!" Lucy replied just as excitedly opening her arms to hug her sister. Natsu, Wendy, and the two Exceeds watched as the two sisters hugged each other lovingly. Upon pulling away, Michelle asked Lucy about why she had asked for her. At this Lucy smiled and began to fill her in on what they had discussed during their meeting with Erza earlier that morning.
"Wow, that's so cool that you'll be going to the spirit world!" said the girl while jumping up and down excitedly like a cute child. Lucy smile slightly changes as she mentions, "Actually, we have not talked with the Celestial Spirit King yet." Michelle looked confused, so Wendy cut in, "Michelle, we were just about to ask one of Lucy's spirits if they could get the message to the Spirit King for permission." "Ohhhhh," Michelle said innocently. Lucy awws her in affection as she exclaims hugging and nuzzling her sister happily, "You are just so cute Michelle!" "Yay!" Michelle exclaimed like a toddler. Carla giggled at this displace of affection from Wendy's arms, "they both are really like siblings." "Aye! Like real Family!" Happy yelled jumping in the air. Natsu, on the other hand, remained quiet and thought with a smile, 'Lucy, is just too loving…'
Once more pulling away Lucy took her stance with a golden key held out in front. "I call upon thy, gates of the Lion and Maiden, duel gates open, Loke, Virgo!" Lucy enchanted with two keys in her outstretched hand. Ding! Dong! With a flash of golden light, a pink puff, two glowing spirits appeared before team Natsu. "Princess, you called?" both Loke and Virgo said in sync. Lucy smiled happily and spoke, "Hi, Loke, hi Virgo!" Both spirits smiled widely at their wizard as they knew how happy she felt whenever she summons them. To her they were her family, they were her friends, so a bright smile was simply wonderful to receive from her. "Hey, Loke!" Natsu said greeting his guildmate with a hi-five. "Natsu what's up man?" Loke grinned at his fire mage friend.
"Virgo, it's nice to see you as well," Carla said to the maiden. "The pleasure is mine," Virgo said with a small smile. "Ooh Virgo what's it like in the spirit world!" Michelle suddenly asked. They all erupted in a conversation each catching up on recent events and happy life. Lucy smiled a mile a minute before speaking, "Loke, Virgo?" Both looked up turning to their wizard, "Yes?" "I was wondering if you both could send a message to the Celestial Spirit King for me?" The maiden and the lion looked at each other then back at the blonde wizard. "That would be no problem princess, may I ask what for?" Virgo said calmly. "Well, to ask permission to allow us to enter the spirit world just until mine and Natsu's mating season lasts (She blushes). I was also wondering if it was possible to spend time with all my spirits. Even though we've been through so much together I still want to know more about you guys as people, " Lucy explained to her spirits. She gazed over to the Lion spirit, who wore a serious look on his face, "Uh…um…Loke is everything alright?" "Hm?!" Loke said snapping back, "Oh, nothing wrong I was just thinking of something. Anyways, how many of you would be going to the spirit world if you got the go ahead?" the ginger questioned. "Apart from Luce and I, Wendy, Carla, Happy and Michelle would be coming along," replied Natsu pointing out all those who would be joining them.
"Very well, Dragon prince we shall deliver the message to our king," Virgo said bowing before she and Loke began to sparkle a gold shine then disappeared. Wendy and Carla sweat-dropped at hearing what Virgo had just called Natsu. "Eh, Dragon…prince?" the little dragon slayer said in confusion. "Ye-Yeeeah, Virgo's been calling Natsu that for a while now…though I haven't been able to get her to stop," Lucy respond shrugging her shoulders, "Anyways while we're here might as well train."
[Celestial Spirit World]
"Mmm…" hummed the Spirit king thoughtfully sitting within an enormous golden hall. Capable of holding even the largest of Spirit with ease. Joining him was his celestial court. This court was the supreme authority in the Celestial Spirit world which consisted of the Celestial Dragon, Draco. The bird of flaming rebirth, Phoenix. The centaur of wisdom, Centaurus. As well as the 13 Zodiac: Leo, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Pisces, Ophiuchus, and Aquarius. Finally, the Celestial Spirit King as the head of the court. He is the highest authority, even over the court. All were sitting in seats with a large empty area in the center. A small wall made of pure gold divided the seats from the center area. All but two seats were being occupied, which were those of the Lion and Maiden were empty.
Suddenly, within a flash Loke and Virgo appeared in the center of the hall. "Leo, Virgo, please take your seats once more," the King said as the spirits nodded as they obeyed. Having taken their seats the king spoke again, "Was our human friends in trouble?" "No, your majesty," Leo replied nodding his head, "Also, please forgive our departure during this important meeting." "Normally, I would not allow this as you all know," the tall spirit spoke calmly, " however, your wizard is an old friend of mine, I do not mind." Hearing this Centaurus and Phoenix gave a bewildered look, while Draco seems to gain interest. In Draco's opinion, he found the Celestial Mage interesting now, if the Celestial Spirit King allowed a wizard to summon a court spirit during an imperial meeting, which he had never done before, meant she was held in high praise.
See, all of the spirits, except the king, had a physical key and all those who have a physical key can potentially have a wizard, including the recently contracted Dragon spirit. However, Phoenix and Centaur were the only spirits that have not been contracted with a celestial mage in centuries. Draco, Phoenix, and Centaur had, since the beginning of contracts, been mainly without a human wizard. Their keys were rarer than the rare Zodiac keys. The reason for this was that just below the Spirit King, they three alone were the most powerful spirits in the Celestial Spirit world with the Zodiac just beneath their power. Now, in Draco's view, Lucy currently owned ten of the twelve (or thirteen) Zodiac spirits, including his key, and having opened the gate of the Spirit King, in that itself was impressive.
"Your majesty, I understand the importance of this meeting, but if I may ask why you hold a human in such praise as well permit two Zodiac to be summoned out in our meeting?" The Phoenix asked the king out of curiosity and slightly annoyed, "I understand that this young lady had taken a key role (No pun intended) in saving his majesty and our world, but to interrupt our governing court meeting? Is it not too much praise for a single human?"
The Spirit king turned to the firebird nodding, "You are right, it does seem excessive. See, though I speak highly of Lucy, I also hold Yukino, wizard of Libra, Pisces, and Ophiuchus, in high regard. I understand that I have not held two celestial wizards in such praise before, but none have shone genuine care and worry for our kind like these two young ladies. Other humans have also care, but unlike the ladies, they do not practice our magic."
"So, do they possess the power to open our gates?" Centaurus questions in a calm voice. At this Draco spoke in place of the king, "I believe they can. As of now, they are capable of summoning two or more golden gates at once for a longer given time. They've also proven to be capable of donning their spirit's power via Star dress. I am not sure of young Yukino, her spirits may know, I can speak for my wizard. She is of the Heartfilla bloodline. She has reached the level of power once only obtained by her ancestor, Anna Heartfilia. Lucy, like Anna, can open three golden Zodiac gates for long periods of time, along with star dress active, she had more than proven to have the power to open one of our gates. After all, you know that the Heartfilia maiden has opened the gate of the king as well."
All the golden gate spirits remained silent as their three higher-ups discussed, still feeling exceptionally proud of their contracted wizards. After all, it wasn't every day both Celestial Mages were spoken of highly by their king or one of the tri-spirits. "I understand your point, Draco. Still, I believe that we should train Miss Lucy and Miss Yukino. If I recall, they are the few celestial spirit mages remaining. It would be wise to train them ourselves, then they may teach our magic to future generations," Centaurus said with his hand to his chin. The bird of flame remained silent in thought. The bird knew of ancient things, about wars long before the Celestial Terran War. They knew of a time when an advanced civilization with technology that had use science and magic to create items. Memories of the machine name in her image. The mechanical Phoenix was there greatest weapon of said civilization. Such power corrupts allowing for one man to unleash it to destroy the world and have it, and it alone rises from the ashes. That is how present day Earthland came to be.
The Phoenix knew that having such power was dangerous if bestowed on the wrong person. After all, those who had built the mechanical phoenix were killed by their own creation. Later on, it destroyed Earthland to ash many times over, until it was sealed way in the Phoenix stones. The spirit felt ashamed to know that something made in her image had destroyed Earthland many times over. "Draco, if what you say is true than why not bring one of these young ladies to the spirit world and train her to truly master the art of summoning Celestial Spirit magic?" the Phoenix suggested to Draco and the king, "There are many risks when it comes to humans or any intelligent beings when given such power, especially that of Celestial Spirits." "Mmm…" hummed the King, arms crossed, a stone-serious expression on his face. "Your majesty if I may intercede," Libra spoke calmly and seriously without her usual accent or speech; receiving a nod from the Spirit King, "I agree that there is a serious risk when allowing a human to hold immense power, but I believe that Lady Lucy, as well as Lady Yukino, had proven their worth as well as genuine love for all spirits no matter how they act or appear."
"Sir, it is safe to assume the worst at time but when they had fought for you and by us, its our responsibility to honor their sacrifices," a voice of a woman come causing everyone to turn in her direction, "Since the day in which we began to make contracts with humans, the first day after the end of the Celestial Terran War, we've only given a part of the knowledge of Celestial Spirit magic to human, in fear that it might corrupt."
"Yet the humans have proved that even though there are corrupt humans, there are also those who will stop them to keep the peace. By the treaty we made to the humans we must help them in their effort to stop those who become corrupt," finished a gorgeous light blue haired mermaid. Having finished her speech, all the spirits turned to the King for his response and final decision. "Mmm," the king hummed once more, "Before I give out my final say, Virgo may you tell me what our human friend asks of you?" "Yes, my king," the pink haired woman bowed before continuing, "Miss Lucy asked if we could relay a message to you." "What might this message be?" "Lady Lucy would like to request permission to enter the spirit world with a group of friends in order to wait out the fire dragon prince's mating season. Also, I quote princess Lucy, "Even though we've been through so much together I still want to know more about you guy as people,"
"This is a perfect for this situation," the king said, "I propose a plan…"
[Somewhere in Earthland]
Darkness could swallow the entirety of the hall. It was as if a three-dimensional cavern had been broken into an enormous cube. Each cube was decorated eerily by bones of the dead. Bones and skull of human, animals, and magical creatures, all the same, covered the cubes. There were skeletons of humans who died hanging from the cube, others tied by the wrists. A few were given an even less dignifying death by placing them hanging by their feet. Bones broken and chipped, even stained yellow or red depending on how recently they had been killed. In the center of the caver, a cube larger than the rest stood. Far beneath the cube molten magma flowed as boiled water. Heatwaves emanated from the bottom of the cavern. On top of the cube was an altar with three tall simple candles. Dark flames erupted from the candles as the crackling sound that echoed through the room. Each flaring crackle was amplified into a sound similar to that of a horse malicious laughter.
There before the flames, a figure enshrouded in black robes was bent over in prayer. His prayer was said in a broken way. Prayers interrupted by heavy breathing. Breaths sounding like hissed and wheezes. Words of adoration crawled for their chapped lips; Lips as if deprived of water. Sweat fled from his skin in streams quickly taking what little water was within the body. The figure rocked back and forth, shaking under the cloak as if shivering. Once more the flames erupted with a bloom that as it died down sounded like screams of utter agony. "T-Torture, T-Torture! My liege you are too merciful, he, he," a horrid voice ripped through the sound of agony, "Please, place more torment over you fate-faithful sl-(Coughs)-ave! Ahaha! REX SPIRITUUM AFFLIGUNTUR DAMNATI!" Upon saying such words, the flames formed into large arms wrapping around the figure. "AHRRG!" screamed the slave in extreme pain as the fiery fingers burned straight through his clothes to their skin.
Red eyes widened in pain. The skin in contact with the fire began to redden, then to form large puss filled blisters, for little water was present in their body, then the bulges exploded due to the heat. More screams escaped the man's mouth with each blister popped, then as if solid a flame claw punctured a small hole in follower's arm drawing blood. Dark scarlet liquid poured on to the stone beneath. Having done this the flames allowed the weak burned body to drop to the stone beneath. The crimson liquid pool in a puddle before flowing towards the three candles. As if defying gravity the blood flowed up the candle completely enveloping the candle before proceeding to feed itself to the large malicious flame. The fire released a sound as if content with the blood of a mortal. "Ye-Yes, my liege, please yourself on my blood use me to satisfy your hunger. Soon you'll have the blood of humans, animals, and magical c-creatures," the servant whispered in a raspy voice, then getting up on shaky legs.
They could barely keep their balance on their legs. Whispered voices rang through their head, causing a wicked smile to cross over their face. "Your will is my command!" With that, they shoved their blood covered arm into the heat of the hellfire. "Aaaah! Such glorious pain! Aahhaha!" the cultist exclaimed slowly pulling out their arm and within his hand were a simple iron key, "I will unlock the hidden keys of your army…" they turned around and walked out of the cavern. "Gather up my men, we're going to open the gates of hell!"
[Outside the village of Shinpi, at base of Shinpi-Tankini Mountain]
"Drill!" yelled a blue haired girl aiming for a large group monkey like creature. With a yell of pain from the forest Vulcans, they all fell to the ground defeated! "Yes! I did it!" she exclaimed once more happily raising her fist into the air. "Great job, shrimp!" a tall man grinned proudly. Behind him stepped up a large black panther/human looking Exceed who had a grin just as big, "Levi, well done!" Currently, the three Fairy Tail wizards were here in order to investigate the recent anomaly that including the mysterious appearance of their Edolas pals. Now, it's not like Earthland Fairy Tail dosen't trust them, it's just that it should be impossible to open the way to a world devoid of magic, I mean shouldn't it? (Let's not focus on the science of it, hehe, at least not yet) With the last of the forest Vulcans down and out; they made their way into the Village where they were greeted by the locals, especially the children. "Are you really the Fairy Tail wizards?!" a little boy exclaimed wide-eyed. "Can I see your emblems?" asked a little girl. Another boy jumping exclaimed, "Can you show us you're magic?" "Can you teach us about magic?" "I want to be a wizard!" "Me too." "Same." Levi giggle at the kids' excitement, after all, how often did you have a bunch of adorable little kids wanting to know about magic. "We sure are. We're from Fairy Tail, see," said the girl showing her Fairy Tail mark followed by Gajeel and Lily now in Exceed form. "Ah, welcome, Fairy Tail wizards we are glad you've come," an elderly man spoke in a warm tone, "I mean not to sound rude but will truly be investigating the recent events that have been happening, as those that came before you left before doing so."
"Oh, yes," Levi said bowing, "I apologize for our friends who came last time. When they discovered who you had in your custody they thought it would be best to return to the guild as soon as possible. I, along with my teammates, will be finishing the request as they had some pressing matter that needs urgent care. Please don't hold it against them if they were to visit." Seeing this the old man simply smiled before telling her stand straight. "There is no need to apologize, I had a feeling something like that were to happen, I am just thankful you came as I am worried for the safety of my people," he said with a weak smile. "Mind telling us what exactly is going on? I'm afraid your request was quite vague," the black cat requested walking up to the old man. The man thought for a minute to formulate the words, "A few months ago in the center of the village by the stone statue, (He point to it) a strange circle appeared. It looked like a hole opened midair. It looked like a cloud of blue dust caving into itself. Then out of nowhere a beast come through then proceeds to inflict damage upon our homes. Once the thing had done its work it fled into the forest, and soon after other creature and people began appearing all over the village and forest. Some peaceful others not so much."
Gajeel nodded, "Don't worry old man, we'll get to the bottom of this." With that, he made his way to the destroyed statue the Elder had mentioned. The statue looked more like it had been melted or distorted in a way. Levi dismissed herself from the conversation with the elder they ran over to her mate. The iron dragon walked around the statue looking at it with a frown. He noticed that the statue had a strange scent. It kind of reminded him of the strange scents he got from the Anima. "Did you get anything?" Levi asked the man next to her as she places her glasses on. He growled aggravatedly before sighing, "This rock has a strange smell, it's not something Earthland usually has. The odor reminds me of the Anima." The blue haired girl nodded keeping her focus on a notepad she was writing in, "Ok, if you say it has a scent similar to the Anima it would make some sense to explain the small energy pulses the statue is emitting."
Lily placed his fingers on his chin thoughtfully, "Could these pulses be the residual energy of some sort of portal? Maybe somehow an Anima was opened?" "It might be…but I don't understand how the portal could have been open. This doesn't seem like teleportation magic. Though this energy does have a slight resemblance to Lucy's spirit gates," Levi noted writing everything down. "If that's the case then maybe we should track whatever came through the portal. They may be able to tell us what happened," Lily said stepping closer to the statue and touching it. Gajeel took in the scent once more and began to follow the trail. Levi who had been too focused on her notepad looked up to see her guildmates in the distance. Quickly she ran after them yelling for them to wait for her. (Cue the creepy music)
"Elder why did you not tell them about the mountain," a nervous-looking woman asked. The elder frowned making it difficult to decipher whether he wore a face of anger or nervousness. "Well, we cannot say for sure what they will find. Hopefully, this matter will be solved within our realm for I fear that if it is not then we might be looking at a war greater than this world could ever know…" "Elder what does the prophecy say?" a young boy questioned. Then a girl spoke up, "Does it have to do with why the mountain is forbidden?" The adults all looked at each other with worry before gulping and nodding their permission to the Elder. "Children lets head inside and I shall tell you," the old man replied requesting everyone to head towards the meeting hall.
Once everyone was inside and sitting the elder took his seat up front with an emotionless face. "Please get comfortable and near someone, you feel safe around. For this story has been long since forgotten by time. It begins eons ago. Ages before even the Black Wizard and Acnologia took to rein in the world. Even before the war with the dragons that created dragon slayer magic. A time where humans and other creature of this world had extensive knowledge of magic as well as science. We know that magic dominates our world, but back then science and magic were equals, both incredibly advanced and powerful. All the kingdoms and races lived in a world full of the knowledge of how the universe worked; having technologies unconceivable and magic unimaginable. At the time, many powerful races existed like dragons, fairies, demons, angels, gods, celestial Spirits and even among those humans as well. Peace was a staple of this past world, though they still had enemies like the demons and angels or the dragons against humans."
"Even though many races disagreed often with each other they still remained at peace. Most of these powerful races did not even live within the Terran plain we live on. Many like the angles, demons, gods, and celestial spirits lived in their own world apart from ours. Earthland would even come to have a sister world by the name Edolas. As it were, it would seem that their worlds claimed to ours as in if our world did not exist neither could theirs. Still, they were all considered themselves one world of power. Eternal laws place for all races to abide by an effort to keep peace, laws that would respect all's rights and opinions. Sadly, when great power is obtained many can fail to remain content with that they receive. Soon a massive war broke out amongst the races. A war that was initiated by a spirit. This spirit was immensely powerful and powers of persuasion incomparable. It was unknown for what reason said spirit cause such calamity, but what was known was that the spirit was cruel, heartless a true monster. The spirit created an army with warriors and allies form every race. The spirit convinces the race to go against each other. Even convincing them to fight their own. The spirt used his warriors as double agents to cause the armies internal damage. Tapping into the ethereal and natural energies to use at their whim."
"The war raged on for hundreds of years with total chaos until ancient spell created by the dragons and gods were created as well as magical technologies were made. Magical technology like the Phoenix, or spells like the dragons' secret arts and the Celestial spirits Urano Mentira. All these were magical machines and spell used in horrible excuse that it scared and unbalanced all the worlds. If not for the fairies no one who has known about the traitors nor would they have been able to come together to confront the evil spirit and his army of savages. And so, the war continued on; sometimes battling in a world not their own. Cities, temples, forests, even mountains were destroyed. Hurricanes and tornados spun uncontrollably, tsunamis and rivers filled cities, a quake shook the worlds. Droughts, magic radiation decimated crops. Many animals went extinct, storms brewed, and battles waged throughout every corner of the worlds."
"Eventually, the war had been one. Every race had suffered great loss, but none like the humans. Being that human, unlike other creature, was not meant to wield magic as originally humans were born without magic power. So, they had to meditate and bring magic into their bodies; due to this it proved that the human body was not as durable as the other creature born with magic." (This I suppose would explain why humans in Edolas are not born with magic power.)
"Punishment would have been difficult to inflict as many of the traitors were immortal or had long-lasting lives like the dragons. Once more all races came together to form a new world of punishment for those who were evil. All those who aided the evil spirit would be stripped of their mortal bodies and condemned to that world which would be known as the Damned spirit world. With the evil spirit as their king. Eventually, the demons were given the task to watch over the damned spirit world. Eventually, over time the demons took a role much like the angels who when good mortals died they would guide them to heaven; the demons would take the evil mortals to the damned spirit world. Beings who had accomplished many great and good things for the world were sent to the Celestial spirits world, not as a gate spirit, but as an honored spirit. As a way to help mend the ties between the races, the two most powerful of the races sent two mediators to negotiate peace between all the worlds. From Earthland the Twin Dragon Flames where sent, while from the Celestial Spirit world, Spica Stella was of the harvest was sent."
"Unfortunately, with such destruction, much of the technologies and magic were lost to time. Having lost a lot of knowledge cause humans and magical creature to fear magic which eventually led to the dragons' rein over Earthland for millennia, a time when humans were nothing more than a source of protein. With many races returning to their own world knowledge of their existence vanished or became nothing more than fairy tales. Before the evil spirits were sealed away forever the damned spirit king vowed that he would rise again with power unlike any war or damage the world would ever see..."
