A/N: Since the previous chapter was Ladybug inspired by a Light's song, I felt it only fair to do a Freezerburn one next. This chapter is based off her song "February Air." Enjoy!

Chapter 14. Winter Air
Weiss loved the wintertime.
She loved how it always made things appear brighter, brighter than they ever could be in the other seasons. The brightness of spring focused on color, the brightness of summer was almost uncomfortably blinding, and the autumn lacked an overall brightness – at least in her opinion.
But not the winter.
There was just something about the way the sun's rays cut through the buildings in Vale, or the trees in the forests. They made the shadows darker, but the actual object much more vibrant and full of life.
It was a season of contrast, one where the sunlight reflected off the snow could separate the dark from the light in a clear-cut manner, a manner in which was unmistakable.
Weiss loved that subtle forwardness, for few things in her life provided such a pleasantry.
Even at night in the darkest hour, the snow still shown in a soft pinkish glow, highlighting the sky.
She loved the wintertime so much she often neglected to remember its frigidness, the harsh breezes and cutting winds that made the top layers of fallen snow drift up once more, misting around her in a temporary haze of white sparkles.
The wind made the icicles clinging to the sides of the school building overhead shake, and they weren't the only things that trembled presently.
In her haste to get going, Weiss hadn't thought out her wardrobe very well.
She was thankful she'd covered her legs with boots, leggings, and a small skirt, but her blue blouse exposed her pale white arms, and there was nothing she could do about that.
She would have gone back inside to fetch a jacket had she not been waiting here for someone.
Perhaps you could call it a date. If you'd asked her, Weiss would never have admitted it, not even to herself.
But she was waiting for a teammate, one who was still in classes likely scrambling to get the notes because she'd fallen asleep during a lecture.
Weiss had informed her she'd be waiting outside, and that Yang should get to her whenever she could.
Of course at the time, Weiss had only assumed Yang would be a few moments tardy, but here she was fifteen minutes later, still trying to remain composed and not to shiver in spite of everything.
She crossed her arms in front of her chest in an effort to clearly show the passing students on campus that she was irritated and waiting for someone who was late.
Not cold. Definitely not cold. Never.
A shudder ran through her, but she quickly covered it up with a fake sneeze, then cleared her throat as she straightened up again and looked toward the school building, waiting.
It was another few minutes yet before she found whom she sought, dressing in a brown jacket and garish orange scarf with her golden hair catching every beam of sunlight.
"Weiss!" she called out when she was within earshot. "Sorry 'bout that!" Yang came to a halt just in front of her, putting her hands to her knees as she caught her breath. "I just wanted to change clothes and stuff." She straightened up again to find Weiss huffing a breath of white air while her sky-blue eyes gave an unconvincing glare.
"It's fine. I haven't been waiting for t-too long..." she mumbled, ignoring the stammer in her own voice. "Let's just go-"
"No, I gotta make it up to you!" Yang declared. "Sorry for makin' you wait, Weiss!" She reached out and wrapped her arms around Weiss, pulling her into a tight, big-sister hug.
The heiress couldn't stop herself from letting out a white breath of relief, feeling the warmth seep into her cold skin and start to melt away the invisible layer of ice that had seemed to form there. She sighed, shuddering slightly as she adjusted to the new temperature, absorbing Yang's natural heat into her body. Weiss' heart thumped when Yang tightened her told, and the heiress couldn't help but nuzzle into her scarf.
Her arms certainly weren't cold anymore.
But it was only a few seconds later when Yang pulled away devastatingly, leaving Weiss exposed to the elements once again.
"Alright!" the blonde cheered. "Let's get going!"
"You idiot!' Weiss snapped, grabbing the sleeve of her jacket. When Yang turned back to her with a curious look, Weiss lowered her voice as she explained herself. "Don't let go so quickly..." she muttered.
Yang understood instantly.
But for once, she held back on the teasing comments, not wanting to wound Weiss' pride or spoil her attitude toward their little date.
So the brawler simply smiled as she hugged the girl once more, rubbing up and down her back softly as she felt Weiss squeeze her in return.
"Sorry," Yang murmured, and her lips brushed Weiss' hair. She felt the heiress huff again, and waited a moment longer before the little shivers died down.
Slowly, Yang pulled away, but only to remove her jacket. Weiss watched her with curious eyes as the blonde carefully draped it over her shoulders instead.
"Yang, please," she said. "I don't need this."
"Well neither do I," Yang said casually. "I mean I'm wearin' sweatpants and a sweater and I still got this scarf, not to mention my semblance and stuff. So I don't need the jacket."
"...You're certain?"
Yang grinned.
"Positive."
With another small huff, Weiss slipped her arms into the sleeves and adjusted the jacket around her chest, mumbling how they "couldn't just leave it there so she might as well wear it." When she was finished, she looked back up to her teammate.
"Alright. Let's be off then," she said.
Weiss turned and started walking. Yang quickly followed, reaching out to take the girl's hand. Weiss paused, though she didn't pull away.
"What are you doing?"
"Well, y'know," Yang hummed, squeezing her fingers gently. "I just don't wanna lose hold of ya' out here!"
Weiss rolled her eyes, things like "I can take care of myself, thank you very much" just on the tip of her tongue. But she swallowed the words down and simply sighed again.
"Fine. Come on, then."
Yang grinned, and she knew she'd seen Weiss' lips curve into a smile as well.
Together, they headed off at a leisurely pace through the winter air.
