A/N: Welcome back to another chapter of Smashventure! As some of you may know, there has been some dlc for Mario Kart that was released a while ago. If you haven't heard of it, then now you have. It includes two characters from other video game franchises. I think the majority of you can figure out which ones just by reading the title. Anyways, this chapter revolves around that. So stay tuned, cuz when we come back, the show will begin!
Chapter 14: The Legend of Kart Crossing
Today was a beautiful day in Smash-City. It was tha week after Halloween, and mostly everybody was still sleepy after partying hard and eating tons of candy at the annual FrightParty. A lot of things happened that would've been cool to read about if the author of this book wasn't so lazy and planned Halloween chapter ahead of time. But he didn't, because apparently the so called author was unlucky and had his/her schedule booked because of school. But whatever.
It was the perfect temperature to go outside and have fun. What could be more fun than hunting for poor insects to add to your collection? Two people were getting ready to explore the large expansion of grass plains in Smash-City: Villager and Link. They both collected bugs as a hobby. Even though they had alterior motives for catching bugs, they still did it together. Villager sold them to his town for bells, and Link infused the bugs' guts into his weapons to somehow make them stronger and offered them to his "friend." Yes, that's what he called her. I think.
They were about to head out for adventuring, when they were stopped by a toad wearing a blue mailman suit, with a brown bag slung over his shoulder. "Well hey there Link!" He said, in a deep, full voice. Like chocolate milk.
"Oh, hi." Link said, dusting his big net. "Who are you?"
"Well, I am the town messenger!" He said, waving his arms. "I take vocal messages and transport them to their recipients!"
"So... What's the bag for?" Link asked, pointing to the bag.
"Tips, duh!" The toad said. "Oh, I take my tips in advance." He held out his hand. Link sighed and gave him a blue rupee.
"Alright, here's your message. And it's from none other than Mario!" The Blue-clad mushroom man cleared his throat. "Well, hey there Link!" He said, imitating Mario's voice perfectly. "We have some very important things to discuss, so please head over to our house right away!"
Link groaned. "So... I guess I gotta
go to the Mushroom Household then." Link said, scratching his head.
"Hey Link!" Came Princess Peach's voice from the toad. "Pease hurry! I baked some cake for all of us to eat! I know how much you love my cake!"
"You better head there soon." The road said. Don't want to upset the Princess, now, would ya? Well, I got more messages to deliver, so I'll be going now! See ya!" He waved, and headed out.
"Man... Guess we'll have to postpone the bug catching thing for now, Villager. But on the bringer side, I do love me some cake." Link said.
"Dang it! It's the perfect condition to find iredescent glint beetles!" Villager sighed. "Well, I guess I'll have to come with you then!" He said, cheering up.
"You think she'll mind if you tag along?" Link asked.
"Oh yeah! I'm a great house guest!" Villager said, smiling. Link looked at the piles of rubbish around all of Villager's house. "Eh, why not?"
"Yeah! Now let's go!" Villager pulled out a Lloid rocket, scooped Link up in his net, and blasted off for Mario's house at fifty miles an hour.
"Ding Dong." Link said as he knocked on the door to the Mushroom Household, where Luigi, Mario, Peach, and Yoshi stayed. Villager was standing behind him, digging holes in their yard with his shovel.
Mario opened the door, and saw Link. "Link! Good to see you got the message!" They shook hands and gave a quick bro-hug. No homo.
"Yeah... So what do you guys want to discuss with me?" Link said. Then, he looked behind Mario, and saw that there was a mini race track on the table. He didn't remember that from the last time he visited, which was to meet with the Green Team. Who's in the Green Team? I'll let you guess. More than two. But why do they meet? Long story. Not really though. Well, maybe. I don't know.
Anyways, Link pointed to the race track. "Woah! That's cool! I didn't see that last time I was here! What is it?"
"Well...!" Peach said, popping out from nowhere between Link and Mario, making them both jump. "It's a race track, dummy! Don't you see the road? You race on these!"
"Uh..." Link and Mario shrugged off the shock. They've been through weirder stuff. "Doesn't that track seem a bit small to be racing on?" Link said, jokingly.
"You're an idiot..." She said, "But an acceptable one. Now, come on!" She grabbed his shoulders, "We need to speak!" And pulled him inside. Neither Mario nor Peach noticed Villager, who was sitting behind Link. "What about me...?" He said.
"Oof!" Link said as he was pushed onto a sofa by the Princess. Mario and Peach were standing in front of him, to his right, in front of the track.
"Well..." Mario said, getting Link some fire flower dew, "As you noticed, this track wasn't here before, and it is indeed important to what we want to talk to you about."
"Yeah... Why is it there? Is it to commemorate some racing event?"
"Exactly!" Peach said. "Next week is the start of the Mario Kart tournament!"
"So... What does that have to do with me?" Link asked, getting suspicious. "Hold on... Are you gonna make me be the water boy?" Mario and Peach looked at him funnily. "I knew it!" He said, plopping his head down deep into the sofa pillow.
"No, no. It's not like that at all!" Mario said, chuckling. "I'll just say it: we want you to participate in the tournament! We can't let the other Smashers know yet, though, or else they'll want to be in the tournament too."
"Me?" Link said. "Why? I'm not in the Mario franchise!" He was frightened, but excited at the thought of racing a vehicle with his friends.
"Yeah, but you've visited other franchises before!" Peach said gaily. Yes, I meant that in the old-fashioned way. "Like, remember when I watched you sleep in Super Mario RPG?" Peach said, getting up in his face.
"Err... Yes. All of you did. Creeps." He poked Peach away. "But... I wouldn't stand a chance!"
"But what about the time you were in Soul Calibur?" Mario said. "You beat everyone there!"
There was a ding coming from the door across fro Link. "Oh! My cake is done!" Peach yelled, running through the door from which the ding came from.
"But that was different." Link said. "That was fighting, and, not to toot my own horn, I have a lot of experience in that."
"Well... Maybe someone can teach you!" Mario said. "I can't, of course. I need to help prepare for the opening ceremony. But I'm sure Luigi or Peach would be more than happy to help. You seem to get along with them a lot." Mario said.
"I don't know..." Link didn't know why, but he was getting a sort of jealous vibe from Mario at that moment. But the vibe quickly went away as Peach entered the room again, holding a really delicious cake, with a triforce inside a racing wheel on it.
"I brought cake!" Peach yelled.
"Cake?" The voice that said that came from outside, and the next thing the three of them knew, the door to Mario's house was being cut down by Villager and his axe. He ran across the room, and jumped right for the cake, snatching it from Peach's hands.
"Haha! The cake is mine!" Villager yelled, midair. He looked forward, and saw a wall quickly approaching him. "Oh sh-" He smacked face first into the wall, getting cake everywhere.
"Noooooooo!" Peach yelled, her masterpiece destroyed. "My masterpiece, destroyed!" She ran out of the room, mourning the cake.
"...Oops. Sorry." Villager said, scratching his head awkwardly. He got up, dusting himslef off.
"Now look what you did!" Mario said, putting his hands in the air. "Wait... How did you know about the cake?"
"I was behind Link when you opened the door, but you didn't let me in, so I just listened to what you guys were taking about from outside." Villager said, between mouthfuls of wall frosting.
"Oh... I'm sorry." Mario said, feeling sorry for the young boy. "Hey, why don't you join the Tournament too?" Mario asked.
"Really?" Villager asked, wide eyed. "That'd be amazing! Thank you!" He ran up and hugged Mario. It would of been a sweet moment if Villager wasn't getting white frosting all over Mario.
"Maybe this wasn't such a good idea..." Mario said, wiping his nose.
"Well, you can't back out now! Or I'll tell everybody about the tournament!" Villager said.
"Yep." Mario said. "The more the merrier, I always say! Unless you're it's more than you two." Mario said, pointing at Link and Villager.
"Well, I guess it's time to get started!" Mario said, clapping his hands together.
"Wait, now?" Villager asked. "But me and Link still have to go on an epic adventure catching bugs!" He whined.
"It's fine, Villager." Link said. "Think of this as an adventure in itself. Not many people get to race go-karts with the legendary Mario Bros!"
"Yeah, you're right!" Villager said, looking up at Link. For some reason, the younger Smashers, like Ness, Lucas, and the Ice Climbers, all looked up to Link like he was their father. In a similar fashion, they looked up to Peach like she was their mother. Weird.
"So... When do we start racing?" Link asked.
"Well, first you have to build your ride, and then you have to learn how to drive." Mario said.
"Well, neither of us have our drivers license." Villager said. He was too young, and Link was too old fashioned.
"You don't need a license to drive a go kart." Mario said, smirking. "Now, let's head up to Professor E. Gadd's laboratory across the block, and start building your Kart."
"Alright, thanks!" Link said, and the three of them headed out for E. Gadd's place, to start their driving careers...
A/N: Sorry for the semi-short chapter, guys. I wanted to end it off here so that this one wouldn't be too long. The rest of the Kart saga will be posted in the next one or two chapters, probably. Anyways, down to business. So, A Smashing Time is a story idea that I had. It revolves around Smashers in different time periods, having adventures. Like, in one chapter(s) they would be Pirates, and then the next, 80's surfers. No, they're not time traveling, it's just different story arcs in different time periods throughout history. No story arc will involve more than one time era. It might sound confusing to some, but it'll be explained if I ever write the story. It'll be the same style of writing as Smashventures. So, what do you guys think? Yes? No? Leave your opinion on this, please! That'll determine whether I write it or not! Anyways, until next chapter!
