Chapter 15
Break-in and Break-downs
"I realized that I don't wanna lose you." He said quietly, looking at the table. Mitchie's heart fell. What did he mean?
"I- I don't understand…" then she saw a small tear fall from his eye.
"Mitchie… you're my best friend… I love you, Mitch… I don't wanna lose you…" then she got it. And Mitchie knew that Nate saying he loved her was pretty big. Good thing he meant it as friends. In less than a month, the baby would be born. But there was a chance that Mitchie wouldn't survive, which she had forgotten about. Apparently Nate didn't. Then Mitchie started crying. He looked up at her.
"I'm so sorry, Mitchie… You wanted me to tell you… I'm sorry…" he said, crying himself. Good thing that they were behind a pole in the corner. She looked up at him as he took her shoulders.
"Y-you're not g-going to lose me, N-Nate… I'm strong… you know that."
"Just… just don't leave all of us... okay?"
"I promise…" Mitchie replied, tears streaming down her face. He pulled her into a hug.
Her phone rang again. "Hello?" she asked. Luckily, it was who she always needed. "Where are you babe?" Shane asked.
"We'll meet you at the shoe store." Then she hung up. She whipped her tears, and so did Nate. Soon enough, it didn't even look like they were both crying.
Mitchie started cracking up out of nowhere. "What?" Nate asked, grinning because of her laugh. "Look at us! We just had a moment Nate!" he rolled his eyes and started laughing with her.
They walked to the shoe store and found Shane and Caitlyn. When she saw Shane, she smiled. No one could make her happier. But what bothered her, was Troy. Why doesn't he just give up? I'm already married! She thought.
"Okay. Let's go home." Mitchie stated. The two couples met up with Jason and went to the beach house. Caitlyn got the key out of her purse and put it in the lock. She turned it and pushed the door. Nothing.
"It won't open…" she said. Shane turned the key as well, nothing. He looked at Nate and nodded at him. They both ran at the door. Something fell from behind it, and the door swung open. Everyone's eyes widened as they saw a chair bouncing to the floor. Why would someone block the door to the beach house?
Shane walked in first, going very slowly and looking in every room. No sign of a person's being in the house was visible on the first floor. Jason, Nate and Caitlyn went down to the basement with a phone, just in case. Mitchie and Shane went upstairs with the other phone. Mitchie squeezed Shane's hand when they walked up the steps.
They looked in each room, still nothing. They came down the stairs, and found Caitlyn, Nate, and Jason standing in the kitchen.
"We didn't find anything." Nate reported.
"Us either." Shane put his arm around Mitchie. But she was staring out the window. Shane looked too, and saw someone jumping the back fence. Everyone gasped and ran outside, but the man was already long gone.
"What that Troy?" Jason asked. Everyone looked at Mitchie.
"No… that wasn't him… but then… who would come in our house?" Mitchie asked confused. Nobody responded.
Caitlyn sighed hugely and dramatically. "Well… let's just look through the house one more time… and if we don't find anything we should call it a night. But if we do find… something… we'll call the police." What a plan.
They switched places to search. Shane and Mitchie went downstairs while everyone else went upstairs. Once again, they found nothing. After that, they all looked on the main floor again. Because there was no one in the house, they all went to their rooms to sleep.
Shane laid next to Mitchie and pulled the covers over them. They smiled at each other and kissed. "I love you, Shane." He kissed her again. "I love you more!" he said cheekily. Mitchie rolled her eyes and went to sleep.
She was running through the woods behind the beach house, farther away from the ocean that she loved so much. Mitchie had a lovely baby girl wrapped in a blanket in her arms. She ran and ran farther, tripping along the way. After a while, she fell down. Mitchie made sure the baby wouldn't get hurt, so she landed on her back, and felt her ankle crack. She would've screamed, but if she did, he would find her. Mitchie looked down at the sleeping baby. She slowly got off the ground, struggling to walk. Tears were streaming down her face rapidly. She said aloud, "SHANE!" Mitchie screamed. She was going to die without him anyways. Now he was gone, and Mitchie only had the baby left. Suddenly, footsteps were coming closer. She had no time to hide, and he found them. He pulled out a knife and-
"AHHHHHH!" Mitchie screamed as she bolted up in bed, sweating like mad. Shane woke up at the sudden noise and started panicking.
"Mitchie! Are you okay?! What's wrong?!" He took her shoulders and shook her. Her eyes were sealed shut, but tears were running down her cheeks. But Shane finally got her to talk to him. "What happened?!" he asked franticly.
"N-Nothing… I-it was j-just a d-d-dream…" She said, breathing hard. He hugged her. He was here, Shane was here. That was all that mattered. She hugged him back, and never wanted to let go.
Still hugging, she said, "Shane… w-we need t-to notify the p-police about h-him…" Mitchie couldn't bare to say the name. He pulled away from her.
"Tell me the dream first." He demanded cautiously. Mitchie sighed and repeated what she remembered.
Once she finished, fresh teardrops were dripping down her face. He hugged her again. "That won't happen. I promise." Shane reassured her.
"I love you, Shane…" she cried. "I love you too, Mitch." He replied.
She felt her stomach, now the baby was kicking harder than ever. Then she felt like she peed her pants. "Shit! Shane my water broke!"
