Chapter 14
Before taking off, Sahara had one last stop to make. She had to see her mom and dad before saying good bye. This time, it was going to be forever but, she was leaving them with her money from her marriage to Simon. She stole his debit card and withdrew all that he had in there from several ATMS. Grand total amounted to over twenty-thousand dollars in cash.
Walking up to their front door with a large bag of cash in one hand, Sahara drew a deep breath and knocked softly. It didn't take long before she heard her father's heavy foot steps. She waited as he slowly opened the door and once he looked at her, his jaw nearly hit the floor as tears weld up in his tired eyes.
"Hey papa" she spoke very gently and wrapped her arms around her father. It had been a while since she cried and the tears fell heavily as he wrapped his arms around her.
"Honey, it's our baby girl" he cried for her mother as he brought Sahara inside their home.
"Sahara!" came the sound of her mother's voice from the kitchen. She practically sprinted into the front room and wrapped her arms around the two of them.
"Oh mama! Papa! I've miss you both so much" she cried as she looked at how frail they had both become since the last time they saw her.
"We've missed you too!" her mother said as she ushered for Sahara to sit down.
"I can't stay for very long. I just came by to say good bye and to give you this" She said as she sat down and nudged the bag over to her parents. She hoped that it would be enough to help them out.
"Why? Where are you going?" her father inquired as he grabbed a hold of the bag that his daughter was handing to them.
"Simon is dead and I will be the one to take the blame. So, in order to protect you, I have to leave. You won't see me again after tonight" she stated in a solemn tone of voice.
"Where will you go?" her mother asked.
"I'm heading to Yautja Prime. I'm actually leaving the planet in order to keep you safe and keep your soon to be grandchild safe too" she rested a hand over her abdomen and waited for her parents to get over their shock.
"A grandchild? Leaving the planet? How?" her father asked.
"Little Knife is the warrior who rescued after Simon left me in the woods to die. I'm leaving with him. I don't have much of a choice. If I stay, the state will take my child away from me and put me jail for murder. If I leave, at least I'll be able to keep my baby and hopefully later on he or she will be able to come visit you when they're old enough" Sahara felt dismayed by the fact that she couldn't stay but, it was the only option.
"Can you at least call or write?" her mother was being the practical one.
"I'll do what I can. I have to go now. I love you both" she stood up and hugged both her parents.
"I hope what I've given you will help. Keep it secret" Sahara softly spoke as she winked before heading out the door. She could hear them opening the bag and gasping once they realized their financial problems were finally over. She smiled to herself as she heard them crying.
"Are you done here?" Little Knife questioned from the shadows.
"Yes. I am. It's the only way to keep them safe" she stated as she made her way into the shadows with her mate.
"Are you sure?" he wanted to make sure she understood the choice she had just made.
"Yes. Let's go home" she held out her hand and he grasped it. They hurried into the night, across town, and back to the woods where the ship was parked. The sun was just starting to rise as they took off into space.
Sahara was staring out the front window of the ship and whispered a prayer for her parents as they quickly excited Earth's. She felt Little Knife place a hand on the back of her shoulder, reassuring her that he would always protect her and their child.
