A/N: Okay, final chapter. Thanks to everyone for reading this and leaving comments.
Things haven't been quite the same since the whole ordeal. Everyone was still shocked. Grim seemed to be in some kind of perpetual depression, Torn and Ashelin were tense, Keira, Samos, Daxter, Sig and Jinx now had different views on things, and Jak got changed the most. Since no one was around when the explosion happened they don't know all the details. But Jak saw it all, and refused to share all the details. What he told everyone was simply this: There was a massive explosion and a bright flash of light. He didn't remember much, just that he was lying in rubble with smoke all around. Krag was nowhere to be seen so he figured he was dead. He found the others not too far away from the site, and they all headed back to the hideout.
Everyone had believed him too. But the story he told was far from the truth. As soon as the crystals touched the Eco, it all blew up. Jak didn't assume Krag was dead, he saw him get vaporized. Not only that, but the Dark Eco waves washing over him from the device made the voice louder than ever. It tormented him for what seemed like years when it had only been seconds. It said a lot of horrible things too. All the different ways it would murder his friends and everything like that. After it was over Jak had a killer headache and felt alone. He became a bit reclusive and didn't talk much to anyone except to tell his lie and thank Grim for everything that he'd done. Surprisingly, Keira was the only one who knew there was more than what Jak told. The others didn't because he had lied so well. About a week after the incident Keira decided she was going to get answers out of Jak whether he liked it or not. She finished helping Ashelin and Torn-they had been working on reforming the Krimzon Guard to something much more reliable called the Freedom League-and went to hunt down Jak.
At the pumping station it was peaceful as the sun was slowly beginning to set. The sky was a beautiful pink-orange and it was reflecting in the water, adding to the peaceful scene. Jak was sitting atop a platform, eyes closed, just trying to clear his head. "Hey Jak!" He turned around to the source of the voice and saw Keira climbing up to the platform he was on.
"What are you doing here?" He turned back around because he had a feeling about what she was going to talk about.
"Hey. How come you've been avoiding everyone lately? Don't give me some lie because I know something's up." She sat next to him and watched the sun retreat to the bottom of the sky.
"Nothing's up."
"What'd I tell you about lying? Something more happened than what you told us, didn't it?" She placed a hand on his shoulder and he sighed.
"Fine. I'll tell you. But keep this from the others."
"I promise. Even Daxter?"
"For the moment, yeah." He took a deep breath and started his story.
As soon as the crystals hit the Eco, it all blew up. Both Jak and Krag were thrown back by the force. Krag was screaming in pain until the blast literally fired him. He was vaporized right before Jak's eyes. Jak was much more fortunate. Sort of. While he survived physically his emotional state was once again damaged. Everything had gone black. He was still conscious, but all he saw was blackness. The voice suddenly filled his mind, it's malicious laughter echoing. "Still think you should fight? Face it, you're hopeless. You want to be rid of me but it will never happen. You'll never be able to control me. I'll control you. I will make you create your worst fear."
"N... no. You can't." Jak was so weak he could barely fight. He already missed the calming affect the Light Eco crystals had. He wondered why the remnants of Light Eco weren't affecting him now.
"I can make your worst fears a reality. And do you want to know why? It's because I am your worst fear!" The voice laughed again and Jak faintly felt something hitting him the stomach. Probably some rubble. "And I know you're wondering why the Light Eco isn't helping you. It's because I'm too powerful for it. Don't worry, though. You've got some time before I strike. The power from this burst of Dark Eco is already wearing off. But I'll take control soon enough." The voice suddenly disappeared, and Jak opened his eyes. He hadn't realized they were closed. He was lying in what was left of the device and some parts that were blown off the building. Jak groaned, got up, and went to look for his friends. He paid no mindto the people giving him shocked stares and whispering to one another. He already knew what they were saying. It was most likely, "Look, it's that Eco freak" or "Oh my gosh! Did he seriously survive that?!"
"That's terrible, Jak." Keira moved her hand to Jak's and squeezed it. "But I still don't understand why you're avoiding us."
"It's because I'm afraid the Dark Eco really will take control of me and kill you guys. I don't want that to happen."
"So how's avoiding us gonna help? It seems to me that if it did take control it would find us anyway." He looked over at her with a slightly amused look.
"You always have to ruin my foolproof plans, don't you?" He squeezed her hand back and she smiled.
"Yes. Yes I do. But only because my plans are better." She started to lean, and so did he. Their lips were about to meet when...
"HEY! I knew you two would try something." Jak and Keira instantly broke apart and tried to act as if nothing had happened. "Guess I've got excellent timing huh?"
"Daxter..." Jak turned away from the ottsel to hide the fact that he was blushing.
"Honestly. I don't know why the rat insisted on finding you two right away. You seemed to be just fine." Samos winked at Keira and she blushed deeper.
"T-thanks daddy. I can't believe you're okay with... with what almost was." She shot a glare at Daxter while speaking the last part of the sentence.
"After everything you've been through, I don't really mind. Just don't push your luck you two."
"Of course not!" They shouted simultaneously. Daxter smirked.
"We came looking for you guys because we were worried. Why've you been dodging us, Jak? You can trust me. Ol' Green Stuff too."
"What the fur ball means to say is that you can always tell us what's wrong." Jak thought about it for a moment before deciding it was best to just tell them the truth like he had Keira.
After he was done with his story Samos nodded. "Now it all makes sense. Jak, you should have told me this before. I could have helped you. I could have-"
"No, Samos. You couldn't have done anything. I remember something the Oracle told me. 'You must have the darkness in order to have the light.' It makes sense now. The Light Eco made the Dark Eco lose its influence. I had complete control even in Dark mode."
"Aaaand, what's that got to do with anything?"
"It means that if I ever got Light Eco powers or something that I'd need Dark Eco to cancel it out so it's even."
"Ah. I understand."
"So do I."
"I don't. But whatever. As long as Keira and Samos get it." Daxter hopped up on Jak's shoulder while Samos stood next to his daughter.
"You know, Jak, your adventures are nowhere near over. You've still got many more trials ahead of you."
"Oh? Now you decide to tell me about that? Before you seemed pretty reluctant."
"Well don't get used to it. I was just doing a bit of foreshadowing. But your next problem should be obvious. Count Veger has been trying to turn the whole city against you. He's been saying you were the cause of everything that's happened."
"I know. What I don't know is how everyone can believe him. The problem was obviously Krag."
"Yes. But Veger has ways of convincing the public otherwise. I sense he will become a very serious threat. We'll have to watch him."
"I suppose so."
"Huh? Why are you so calm?" Keira looked at him and he smiled.
"Because I already know I can't stop what's coming. So I'm just gonna enjoy the time I have now. Like watching this sunset." A few moments later the sun set completely, and the four of them started watching the stars appear in the night sky.
A/N: Well that's that. Tell me how it was. I feel like it was rushed and a little bit cheesy. But like always, please review. And thanks again for reading and commenting.
