guys. i am so sorry. life has been hectic with exam prep and stuff. i honestly have no idea how regularly my updates will be until after june 12 (last gcse!). anyway, heres a happy chapter for you all, with a little bit of Posen drama at the end :)
"MOMMY!"
Beca looked over her shoulder at the front door to see her daughter running towards her. Rising, she bent down to envelope Lexi in a huge hug
"Mommy, I missed you! Where were you?"
Beca sighed, not wanting to have to deal with the question so soon. She looked up at Chloe, who Beca had asked to watch Lexi while she was in the hospital
"Did you tell her anything?"
"Only that you had to go away for the night. I think you should tell her the truth to be honest. Not all of it about him, just where you were; but that's just my opinion."
Beca smiled at the ginger, letting her know it was alright. Looking back at Lexi, Beca stood up, holding her close.
"Mommy, where did you go? You weren't there to tuck me in"
Beca sat back on the sofa with the little brunette
"I was in the hospital, sweetie"
"Are you alwight Mommy? What happened?"
Beca chuckled slightly at her daughter's concern
"I'm fine now sweetie, but a very bad man hurt me, so I had to go to the hospital for a little while. But I'm all better now!"
Lexi smiled and hugged Beca again. She then flopped down onto the floor to play with the toys she had brought to Aubrey and Chloe's apartment. Chloe bounced down next to Beca
"How are you feeling, about all of this?"
Beca sighed "I don't know really. I'm definitely handling it better than last time, but I'm still kind of shaky. How do I get better, Chloe?"
Chloe pursed her lips and studied Beca's face
"Well, I would suggest talking about it, with Bree that is. Not that I'm unwilling to listen, but you should talk to her first. And maybe see a therapist? What did you do last time?"
Beca sighed again "I was a total mess for about a month. But then I found out I was having a baby which gave me something to focus on; a reason to get better"
Chloe grinned "You still have that reason. You've got Lexi, and Bree, and you've got lots of friends this time round as well"
Beca laughed "And I have my best friend"
Chloe frowned slightly "Luke?"
Beca full on laughed at this "No, he's like my bro! I was talking about you, if that's okay with you obviously"
Chloe blushed "Am I really your best friend?"
Beca beamed and grabbed Chloe's hand "Of course you are, Chlo. You're the bestest friend in the whole widest world"
Chloe giggled, leaning into Beca slightly "Thanks! But you do sound like a five year old when you say it like that"
Beca smirked "Seriously though, you are my best friend. You're the first person I talked to here" Beca thought for a minute "Unless you count Kimmy-Jin giving me a death glare, which I don't so…yeh, best and first friend!"
Before Chloe could say anything, Lexi started tugging on her sleeve "Auntie Chloe, I'm hungry, can we have pancakes?"
Chloe smiled, ruffling the young girls hair "Of course we can kid, let me go get everything. Would you like to help me make them?"
Lexi nodded quickly, dashing into the kitchen. Beca and Chloe laughed at her antics before following her.
(howdoyouevengetlinebreakstostaywhenyouuploadnothingIdoworkseveritssofrustratngohmygod)
"So, where's Bree?"
The trio were sitting at the kitchen table, happily munching on pancakes. Beca swallowed her juice before replying
"She has classes today, she should be back by about 2 though, I think"
"Well, what shall we do in the meantime?"
Beca smirked slyly
"Well, you could always tell me about your new girlfriend?"
Chloe blushed, suddenly seeming very interested in her pancakes
"Umm…"
Beca giggled
"Come on! I know you like her, and I know she likes you! Plus, me and Aubrey saw you talking while I was in there. Soooo?"
Chloe seemed to hesitate before everything came pouring out
"Oh my god, Becs. She perfect, like, everything she does is just so heartfelt and kind I'm just drawn to her. She's really friendly and kind and loving and she was so sweet when I had my nodes out. She understands what it's like to feel like you can never do the thing you love again, and I like her. I really do like her, as in I want to be your girlfriend, like her. Do you think, if I asked, she'd say yes?"
Beca smiled at her friend, grateful that she was feeling happy again
"Of course she would. You do have to think this through though, remember that. She's dying, to put it bluntly, and you know that. She might say no at first, she won't want to 'tie you down' as she put it, and you may have to convince her to say yes. She won't say no, because she wants this as much as you do, but she may not say yes outright"
Chloe narrowed her eyes at Beca suspiciously
"Okay, either you asked her out, or she talked to you"
Beca chuckled "She talked to me about you. She wants to be with you, but she's afraid of hurting you"
Chloe nodded, she knew. They had talked about this when Aubrey was talking to Beca. Chloe knew that being in a relationship with Thirteen would have it's ups and downs but she was willing to take those risks if Thirteen was.
"Okay, okay. Okay. I'll go to the hospital this weekend and ask her out. I can do this."
"Yes, you can. Okay, so what shall we do know?"
Beca laughed "Not a clue. We've got 5 hours and absolutely nothing to do"
Chloe thought for a moment before grinning excitedly at Beca
"Oh my god we could play Pictionary!"
The brunette rolled her eyes at her friend's childishness
"What are you, eight?"
"Nine and a half, actually"
They laughed before cleaning up the table. Beca turned to Lexi
"Sweetie, do you want to go and watch some cartoons while Chloe and I wash up?"
"Okay Mommy. But will you come and watch with me afterwards?"
Beca nodded before turning to help Chloe. After a few minutes of cleaning in comfortable silence, Chloe turned to Beca
"So how are things with you and Bree? I've never really had a chance to ask"
Beca's whole face lit up, her eyes sparkling
"It's amazing. She's so sweet. Last night, I had an, insecurity, for want of a better word, and she just instantly made me feel better. She sang to me, and it was the kindest thing anyone has ever done for me, I nearly cried she was so sweet about it. I mean, I never really got to see this side of her before we started dating, nobody did, except you obviously, but I'm so glad she let me in, she's just perfect for me. I'm really falling for her"
Chloe looked at her friend
"I think you already fell, Becs. You fell, and she caught you"
Beca nodded
"I guess, isn't it kind of quick though? I mean we haven't been dating that long"
Chloe shook her head, laughing
"You haven't been together that long, but the attraction started long before that. You've been falling for her since day 1. And you know what, she fell for you too"
Beca looked startled "She did?"
Chloe nodded "Yup. It wasn't obvious, not at first anyway. She would rant about you all the time, pacing up and down. Which was understandable at first, you were kind of annoying, no offense"
Beca laughed "Annoying is putting it politely, carry on"
"Anyway, soon she would just find the slightest thing to talk about, like how you shirt didn't match what colour 'ear monstrosities' you were wearing or something stupid like that though"
Beca looked intrigued now "So how did you figure it out?"
Chloe laughed "It was quite funny really. One day, she came home and started ranting about how much time you spent at the radio station. And I just thought she was going to go on about how the time could be spent learning the choreography or something. But then I realised you'd only told me that you worked there, and I certainly never told Aubrey"
"How did she find out then?"
Chloe smiled impishly "This is the fun part. I asked that and she blushed. She frickin blushed and looked at her feet. And I was just staring at her like 'what the fuck is going on'? And then I got it. It was never about the time at the station, it was about who you were at the station with. She was jealous. Aubrey is never jealous. She never actually told me how she found out you worked there"
Beca just stood there, grinning like an idiot. Her girlfriend had been jealous because of who she worked with. This would be good blackmail material at some point
"-tell her please?"
Beca was jolted from her plotting
"I'm sorry, what?"
Chloe huffed "I said, just don't tell her, please?"
Beca sighed "Okay, fine"
"Mommy! When are you and Auntie Chloe going to watch cartoons with me?"
Beca raised her voice so her daughter could hear her "Coming sweetie!" then to Chloe she said "Come on, she may be a good kid but she's still a toddler, her patience won't last forever"
"Let's go watch some cartoons then!"
Grinning, they both left to go to the living room.
3 hours later and they had progressed from cartoons to a Disney movie marathon. Beca was mildly miffed at this but she could still appreciate the musical content of some of the classics. They were watching Aladdin now, a favourite of all 3 girls. Lexi had watched it so many times that she now knew the words to all of the songs and most of the dialogue as well; something both Chloe and Beca found to be rather impressive. When the film ended, Lexi twisted herself round to face her mother
"Mommy, when will Bwee be back?"
"Right now! Hey guys"
All 3 girls whipped round to see Aubrey standing in the doorway. Lexi, the first to move, jumped up and ran to give Aubrey a hug
"Bwee! We're watching movies, do you want to watch too?"
"Of course Lexi. Let me just get settled"
Lexi ran back to the sofa, seating herself on Beca's lap. Beca then half twisted to look at her girlfriend
"I thought you had classes until 2?"
"I did, but the professor for my last class called in sick, so after waiting for half an hour we were all told to go home! I'm ahead in that class anyway…"
Chloe laughed at her friend "Is there any class you aren't ahead in?"
Aubrey pondered this question for a moment
"Actually yes" The other girls raised their brows in shock "American History. I suck at it, I'm at the same level as everyone else"
Beca huffed at her girlfriend "That's not sucking, that's being the same as everyone else. At least you're not behind"
"True, true. So! What have you guys been up to?"
Chloe answered "Well, we had pancakes for breakfast, Beca and I did some talking, and then we watched cartoons and have been watching Disney films for the past…3 hours…ish?"
Aubrey simply nodded before putting in the next film, Sleeping Beauty. She then sat herself down on the other side of Chloe, not wanting her to feel excluded. A while into the film, Lexi had climbed off Beca's lap and into Chloe's wrapping her tiny arms around the ginger's waist. Although Chloe's facial expression didn't change, Aubrey could see she was glad. She could see Chloe's arms tighten ever so slightly around the tiny brunette, her eyes still trained diligently on the screen. This told Aubrey just how much Chloe wanted someone to call her own. And, only time would tell, but maybe Thirteen could be that someone.
When the final credits rolled, nobody moved. They were all content exactly where they were. Lexi curled up on Chloe's lap, half asleep. Beca and Aubrey holding hands over the back of the sofa, and Chloe in the middle, surrounded by her favourite people. Aubrey broke the peaceful silence first with a soft voice
"What did you guys talk about when I was in class?"
Beca smirked at Chloe who shot her a warning look
"Oh…lots of things"
"I'm warning you Beca"
Aubrey frowned at the pair of them. Beca continued to smirk gleefully at the girl between them
"I had my fingers crossed, Chlo"
Chloe just glared at Beca before glancing worriedly at the blonde
"Well, first we talked about Chloe and Thirteen, which was nice as they're both my friend and I really want them to get together. Then we talked about me and you, which I will tell you about later, it is not a conversation I want my daughter to hear. And then, this is the good bit, we talked about how you realised you had feelings for me"
Beca saw her girlfriend pale significantly before she shot a look at Chloe, who seemed to shrink under her gaze. Seeing this, Aubrey softened a little
"Hey, it's okay Chloe, I'm not mad, it just means that Beca and I need to have two deep conversations by the sound of it"
Smiling softly, Aubrey clasped her free hand with Chloe's, smiling reassuringly at the bubbly girl next to her. Seeing her friend's move improve, Aubrey glanced down at Lexi and found her asleep. She stroked the toddler's hair gently, not wanting to wake her. Suddenly, Lexi shifted slightly, stirring in her sleep
"…mommy"
Beca smiled "That's not mommy, sweetheart, that's Bree"
"S'what I said…mommy"
Aubrey gasped, looking at Beca
"Did she just-"
Beca just nodded, her eyes filling with tears. She had been waiting for this
"But we've, I…oh my gosh"
Chloe grinned, nudging Aubrey with her shoulder
"Look Bree, you're a mommy now"
Aubrey just smiled slightly and nodded, completely at loss for words. Then she spoke, her voice cracking slightly
"Will…will she remember when she wakes up? I mean, she was half asleep, and she's gone again now"
Beca reassured her "She will. She asked me if she could call you mommy a few days ago, I just didn't know when it was going to happen"
"You knew! And you didn't tell me?"
"She asked me not to, she wanted to surprise you. You're officially part of the family now"
Aubrey grinned again, completely happy. Suddenly, her face dropped
"What's wrong? Bree?"
"My dad"
Beca looked confused whereas Chloe paled considerably, the colour draining out of her cheeks
"Oh god, your dad"
Beca just looked confused again
"I don't understand, care to explain?"
"He wouldn't approve of you. Don't get me wrong, he's not homophobic or anything. He doesn't approve of…sex before marriage"
"Oh. I see"
"Yeh, you see my dilemma now. I mean, I'll still introduce you and Lexi, if you're okay with that?"
Beca paused before answering
"You said sex before marriage. Do I fall under that category or…?"
"I actually have no idea, um"
"I have no problems meeting the guy, I can handle him, but I don't want him saying anything to Lexi"
"I'll call him, he should be at home now. Chlo? Can you take Lexi into the bedroom?"
Chloe nodded, explaining to Beca before she left that this could get ugly very quickly. Once she had left, Aubrey dialled the phone.
"Hey dad, I um, I have some news"
Beca couldn't hear what was being said on the other side but it didn't sound like much
"I have a girlfriend, her name is Beca"
Deciding to try and hear, Beca stood up and wrapped her arms around Aubrey's waist, leaning her head onto the blonde's collarbone
"She sounds okay, what major is she doing?"
Aubrey sighed before looking down at Beca who mouthed the answer back at her
"She's doing a music major and a minor in business and marketing"
"Good, intelligent. What do her parents do?"
"Her dad teaches English Lit here at Barden and her mom is…" Aubrey glanced down at Beca again "A singing coach at Julliard"
Beca could hear Mr Posen's murmur of approval over the line. He liked the sound of her so far, now the deciding factor
"There's something else as well, dad…"
"Oh yes, what's that?"
Aubrey breathed in sharply before replying "She has a….daughter"
What Beca was not prepared for was the explosion she heard
"WHAT?! She has a child! Aubrey Posen, I thought I raised you better!"
"Dad! Dad calm down. It's not like she got herself knocked up…she…" Aubrey paused here, looking down to Beca to see if it was okay to share her private life
"Well? I'm waiting Aubrey"
After feeling a nod from her girlfriend, Aubrey continued
"She was assaulted, dad. It wasn't her fault"
"…"
There was complete silence on the other end for at least half a minute and then
"When?"
"Wait, what? What do you mean when?"
"When was she assaulted? I don't want to meet a screaming child"
"Almost 4 years ago. Lexi is very well behaved, dad. I think you'd like her"
"Lexi?"
"Oh yes, that's her name. It's short for Alexis"
Aubrey grinned down at Beca, it was going well. Seeing Beca grin back, Aubrey felt elated, this was going well.
"That's a very nice name. Well, I should very much like to meet this potential granddaughter of mine, and soon. I'll have to rearrange some meetings, but I should be able to fly up in time for your singing finals though"
Aubrey bounced slightly on her toes "That would be amazing dad! I'm sure Lexi would love to meet you"
I'll see you soon sweetheart, I love you"
"I love you too daddy, see you soon!"
Aubrey hung up the phone and wrapped Beca in a hug.
