Yugi had impatiently been bugging Anzu for the rest of the day following her phone conversation with Kaiba. Though he hadn't asked and she hadn't bothered volunteering the information, Anzu was pretty certain Yugi had his suspicions. Yugi had been short and snappy with her and even told Jounouchi to leave them alone when he was asking Anzu a question about homework. Despite Anzu's recent issues with the blond, she felt bad for him being dismissed so rudely and called Yugi out on it.
"Yugi, I know Jou isn't the best at school but there was no need for you to tell him to go away. That was uncalled for, completely." Anzu put her hands on her hips, looking serious.
Yugi rolled his eyes. "Anzu, what time are we meeting after school? I'm really looking forward to seeing you after school." Yugi was also looking forward to possibly copping a feel later that afternoon.
"Sorry, Yugi. I have after school plans."
Yugi raised his voice in a completely uncharacteristic fashion. "Damn it! We're through Anzu! You can just go screw Kaiba who is second best by the way in case you missed that fact." She opened her mouth to try to somewhat defend herself or at least calm her friend down.
"And don't even try to say you're not going to see that bastard. I know that's the only person that could make you rush out of class to talk to him looking like a complete idiot." Yugi turned to walk away meaningfully.
What is with him? What is with everyone lately? Anzu couldn't help thinking. She was pissed but Yugi had rushed off before she had a chance to reprimand him. Her phone rang again. "Hello" she answered kindly.
"Hi if you still want to come over I'm free for the rest of the evening. My headache didn't slack off either so no more work for the rest of the day, Mokuba's orders." Kaiba also added in a softer voice which Anzu barely heard. "And you don't have to make me soup, earlier I was just teasing."
Anzu laughed lightly. "I'll be there soon. And don't worry! I'll make a big pot of soup so everyone can have some."
"Bye." And Kaiba disconnected.
Since Anzu didn't have a car she elected to walk to Kaiba's instead of asking for him to send the limo. She wasn't a brat and a short walk wouldn't hurt her. Chou hadn't come to school since the incident in the Food Store parking lot and come to think of it neither had Honda for that matter. For her it was mostly out of sight out of mind in that respect, still Anzu made sure to check behind her every now and then and not to go in any dark creepy looking alleys.
When she got to the Kaiba manor gate she took her cell out to call him to let her in, but the wrought iron gates mysteriously swung inwards before she could highlight Kaiba's name in her contacts. She walked hesitantly through the gates. Regardless of who was doing it, being watched was still creepy.
Mokuba was standing at the door of the manor clearly happy to see her as he practically jumped into her arms as she leaned down next to him. When he pulled away from her, however, she noticed his features were crinkled in worry.
The look on her face must have shown her question clearly enough for Mokuba responded readily. "Seto hasn't been feeling well at all today. I came home early from school when I found out from one of the butlers. I'm considering calling the doctor Anzu-nee."
Her eyes widened at the term of endearment. "Nee?" She queried.
Mokuba laughed, "Yes! As in nee-chan. Like sister."
She colored slightly. "I know what it means. I was just shocked you called me that. Anyway, where is your brother now?"
"He's lying down in his bed and I'm pretty sure he has a fever, but he won't let anyone take his temperature. Would you at least try? And help me decide if I need to call the doctor?"
She smiled at the worried younger brother. "Sure I will."
"Kaiba, it's me Anzu. I'm here with some soup and to take your temperature." When the bundle beneath the covers didn't stir much she pursed her lips. His laptop lay forgotten on the bedside table a further sign that he was feeling very poorly to actually put aside his work completely.
I guess he really is sick.
Anzu set the soup down on the table after moving his laptop to a safer location. She pulled back the covers and was shocked at the sight. Kaiba was sleeping but he was sweating heavily and his skin was unusually pale. She placed the thermometer carefully into his mouth and just waited.
The beeping of the thermometer signaled his temperature had been recorded accurately. She glanced at it then nearly dropped it when she saw the number flash across the screen. 104.2?! That can't be right! She redid the procedure, getting exactly the same result.
I better tell Mokuba.
She exited the room hurriedly grabbing his half empty cup of coffee to drop by the sink. "Mokuba, has your brother eaten or drank anything today?"
Mokuba continued to look worried. "As far as I know he didn't have breakfast. He just had his morning coffee." He gestured to the cup by the sink Anzu had just placed there. "It wasn't long after that that he went to lie in bed saying he didn't feel very good."
"Did he have anything else?" Anzu pressed.
"I'm not really sure why this matters Anzu-nee, but wait, that's right. He had another cup of coffee." He went to the sink and pulled out another one that had coffee residue in it. "This one is also from today, I'm pretty sure anyway."
Anzu bit her lip. "I'm going to ask you not to freak out Mokuba. But we do need to contact Kaiba's doctor. His temperature is rather high. It's probably just a cold but I want to be sure."
"How high is it? Anzu-nee I'm not a little kid anymore. I can be told important information without freaking out I swear."
Anzu grimaced. "It's 104. High enough to concern me plus my aunt is a nurse, so I know a little bit about what is a "nothing to worry about temperature" and what is a "call a doctor temperature."'
Mokuba nodded. "I'll call him right away."
A/N: This chapter may feel a bit forced, but a wise author once told me "good writers write even when they don't feel like writing." I'm not saying I'm a great writer, but at least I wrote. XD
