Chapter 13
The next day, after breakfast, while the children are off playing all the adults are preparing for their dance lesson. Adella, Attina and Alana are off to one side, talking while they wait.
"I wonder what this is gonna be like, I mean, we've only just mastered how to walk with feet, now we have to dance" ponders Adella.
"I know right"
"This is gonna be like a major disaster"
"No it won't" says Ariel who had overheard her sisters and so came over.
"Come on Ariel, you seriously want us to learn to how to dance"
"Yes I do, it's only one dance and it's the simplest one there is, it's called a Waltz. Besides you're gonna fine it easy, me and Eric will teach you"
"If you're sure" murmurs Attina.
"I am, because I have faith in you, we just gotta wait for Eric to get here and then we can start".
A few minutes later Eric arrives and they all pair up, with one of the slightly older maids pairing up with Triton.
"All right, so me and Ariel are gonna show you the basic steps of a Waltz right now, all in one go and then we'll break it down for you"
Eric and Ariel then get in hold and move around the floor while everyone else watches in amazement, wondering how they'll do it. When they have finished Ariel and Eric turn to the group, who applaud them.
"There are a few important things to remember with the waltz, they are:
The man has to lead,
There has to be rise and fall,
There has to be a good hold and posture and
You have to make it seem less and elegant when you dance around the room".
"Is that all! exclaims Aquata.
"Okay, we'll just go through it step by step"
Over the next two hours each couple stumbles, trips and falls numerous times but by the end of it they can at least stay on their feet.
"Okay, well we have 3 days before the ball, so there's plenty of time to practice, but in the meantime I think Grimsby is serving tea in the courtyard, why don't we all get changed and meet outside in say 20 minutes".
"Sounds like a plan"
Meanwhile all the children are on the beach and Melody is teaching them to swim with legs instead of fins and Tip and Dash are helping.
"So Melody, what exactly is it that our parents are doing in there?" asks Mariah.
"My mom and dad are teaching your parents and grandpa how to dance the waltz ready for the ball on Friday".
"What's a waltz?" asks Merrick.
"It's a dance, you know, to music, all the men wear suits and all the women wear really nice dresses".
"I got a pwetty dress" says Kailani.
"Yes you do, don't you"
"I hungry"
"Oh you are you Mariana?"
"Yes"
Then a woman comes up to them, she's dressed in a maid's uniform.
"Excuse me your highnesses"
"Oh hi Juliet, is something wrong?"
"No not at all, I was just tasked with fetching you and your cousins for tea in the courtyard"
"Oh well thank you, come on guys, Tip, Dash, we'll see ya tomorrow"
"Ok Melody, see ya"
Melody and her cousins then follow Juliet back up to the castle.
