Alicia's POV
13 months later
Low hanging tree branches softly caressed my skin as I ran. The wind whistled past my ears and tangling my hair. I didn't stop. The boiling hatred and self loathe kept me running at an unholy speed. Away from Italy. Away from the Volturi. Away from Caius. He turned me into a monster. An indestructible, blood lusting, killing machine. He couldn't understand my refusal in adapting to their lifestyle. It was cruel and disdainful. After many exhausting arguments I left. It didn't take long for them to realise that I was gone. Demetri was already onto me but I decided to lead him on somewhere before I made my scent disappear entirely making me invisible. I'm excellent at hiding. (Hint hint. Her gift) I was already past the borders of Germany before it was I deemed it to be necessary to cut off my scent.
…
Days later I found myself in a forest on the outskirts of Romanian when I saw a flash of white hair and the other I glimpsed had dark hair. I spun around and around but couldn't see either of them anywhere. I looked up into the canopy of trees. Two male vampires sat along the branches observing me. Their cold eyes calculating if I were a threat or not.
"Hello." I greeted them quietly. One of them, the blond one put his head to the side. While the other gracefully pushed himself out of the tree landing a foot or so away from me. Their skin was strange. These vampires had the same sort as the Volturi leaders. They must have been old. The closeness of him intimidated me.
"You reek of the Volturi." The closest one hissed in a thick Romanian accent. The other jumped down. Though he stood further away.
"But of one in particular." The blond drawled in the same accents. Suddenly I found myself pinned up against a tree behind me. Shards of bark flew everywhere from the impact. I could feel this vampire's breathe on my neck. His scent was strange but strangely delectable. I turned my face away from his. His grip on my neck tightened making it hard to talk. Little cracks began to form up my neck.
"I am not one of them. In fact I'm running from them. So if you don't mind I would appreciate it if you removed yourself from me." I almost hissed. My air supply running low.
"hmm." The one holding me hummed in indecision. A moment later he let me go.
"My apologies." the dark haired one said though he didn't seem very remorseful only suspicious.
"Can't be too careful. My name is Vladimir and this is..."
"Stephan." The dark haired now known as Stephan answered.
"I'm Alicia." I introduced myself.
"I'm afraid I have to keep going..." I continued less than pleased with my meeting with them.
"Why not stay?" Vladimir asked suspiciously, he stood closer now.
"We have been on the run from the Volturi's clutches for over a millennium. " Stephan said somewhat smugly.
"Italian scum." Vladimir added disdainfully. I couldn't quite place their accents. But my thoughts never stayed on one thing, they always flickered to another. I was getting angsty. Most likely because I haven't fed for almost a month. I remembered my first feeding.
*Flashback*
I opened my eyes, my mind disoriented. I sensed someone in the room with me. I turned to find Caius leaning against the door. The only exit. My attention then flitted to another noise other than Caius' even, steady breathing and cold expression, a soft pattering noise that made my mouth water. I swallowed and suddenly my actions were no longer my own. I didn't even register the terrified face of the woman over my uncontrollable urge before I sank my teeth into her neck. I almost moaned of the flow of blood in my mouth and as it soothed the burn that flared in my throat. The taste mere heaven. The thought that I was killing this poor woman never having crossed my mind until it was too late. Too late to stop what I had already done. I had killed her. My mind cleared of the blood lust state I was in. Caius did this. He let me kill her. I was overcome with grief and guilt.
"Better? My Love" he asked cockily. I snarled and launched myself at him. He made no sign of moving. Instead he grabbed me as I made contact with him. I was hurt .I trusted him
"It gets better with time!" he said in my ear as he pressed my back into the door and licked the blood from the corner of my mouth...
*end*
Vladimir and Stephan broke me out of my memories. I had a feeling they didn't trust me very much. Nor should they. I tried repressing the memories that threatened to flood her mind. If I thought of him too much I may just crack and return to him, consequences be damned. I shivered in anticipation at what those consequences might be. I found he doesn't take to kindly to disobedience. I focused on what Stephan began saying to me.
"You are thirsty." Stephan stated noticing my restless movements and the colour of my eyes. I bet they were darker than on a moonless night sky.
"Clearly but I haven't really had a chance to feed." I rolled my eyes in good humour.
"Why are the Volturi after you?" Vladimir said rather demandingly. I found their accents greatly amusing for some unexplainable reason. I expected this question and answered without hesitation.
"I offended them. Let's leave it at that." I said grimacing. Another memory creeping its way into my thoughts. 'I was wrong to trust you and only now I realise what a fool I've been. I've had enough of your cruelty and your lies.' I whispered in his ear. I held in my flinch as my heart ached at the thought of him. I needed to feed; at least it would take my mind of him. I noticed Vladimir's dark eyes as they danced with laughter, they lingered with curiosity.
"Come with us!" Stephan said gently grabbing my arm and pulling me away from the tree I had still been leaning on. His grip much gentler than previously and for that I was grateful.
"We know a place." Vladimir said, his voice held a smile in it. I smiled at them in what I hoped was a non threatening way. They seemed to be charmed by it.
"Thanks but you don't have to..." I told them sincerely. The Romanians. Caius had mentioned them once. The enemy. He had described them. Another lie it would seem.
"Nonsense!" Vladimir reprimanded
"You are new to this world." Stephan finished. They raced off, pushing themselves of trees trying to beat each other. I laughed as I followed them. In a matter of minutes we found ourselves in front of a burlesque club. I stared in shock. What?! Vladimir smirked at me, with my windblown hair and what I imagined to be my utterly shocked expression.
