"Doctor?" Rose called down the corridor "Doctor?!"

"What is it?" he called back from the console room.

"Mickey just called and said there was something strange going on down at one of the local schools. He said we'd better check it out" he moved into the console room with her phone in her hand.

The Doctor looked up as she approached and smiled at her "So what does Mr Mickey think is wrong?"

"Apparently the school has ridiculously high test scores...like alien high" she wiggled her fingers at him and he laughed.

"Well it might be worth a look" he took her phone from her and looked at the information on the screen "This might actually be rather interesting".

"There see" Rose held out her hand for her phone "Mickey isn't completely useless".

"I never said he was" the Doctor's voice went a little bit higher as he defended himself.

"Oh but you were thinking it" she snatched her phone back and grinned at him with her tongue between her teeth. She didn't know why, but she had started to think that that very grin was a little more flirtatious then she intended it. Not that she was complaining, with it she managed to make a certain timelord completely speechless for a few moments, which was of course an advantage when he started to ramble.

"Alright so let's go see Mickey then" he managed to say after several minutes of staring at where her tongue had disappeared.

"Great, I'll go get changed" she raced from the room and down the hall to her room.

The Doctor only had to wait a few minutes before she was back and they were ready to go "So you and Mickey are all good then?" he asked after several moments of her fixing her hair.

"Oh yeah" she brushed off the fresh shirt she'd just put on and looked up at him "Some things just aren't meant to be".

"And some things are" he grinned at her and held out his hand, wiggling his fingers.

She laughed and took it as they stepped outside into London. "Rose!" came the call of a familiar voice as Mickey came running from around the corner.

"Mickey!" she grinned and gave him a hug "How you been?"

"Great!" he exclaimed happily "Things have actually been going a lot better for me now".

"So I don't even get a greeting then?" the Doctor asked sounding hurt.

"Yeah hi Doctor" Mickey smiled stiffly at him and wrapped his arm around Rose's shoulders and pulled her to him in a playful and jokey way "Anyway before we get down to business I thought we could go to the chip shop down the road and catch up".

"Sounds great" Rose grinned at him.

At that moment the Doctor let one of his walls down and allowed himself to confront the emotions he was feeling. Firstly he was feeling that Mickey was standing far too close to his Rose, secondly he was feeling annoyed that Rose wasn't objecting, thirdly he was feeling glad that Rose hadn't given Mickey the same brilliant grin that she usually gave the Doctor, he felt that that one must be reserved specifically for him and fourthly that...well he didn't know really...he was feeling jealous. 'Jealous! Oh no no no that's not how it works!' he argued with himself 'He didn't feel jealous, let alone for some stupid ape like Mickey!' There had to be some other explanation.

"Doctor?" Rose asked suddenly, pulling him from his thoughts when he realised just how close she'd gotten to him "Are you alright?"

He let out a long shaky breath "Yeah I'm fine" he pulled her into a hug for a moment before continuing to walk, feeling very satisfied with the irritated look on Mickey's face.

When they all sat down in the shop Mickey told them about the school and why he found it suspicious. The Doctor agreed that there was definitely something going on there and that they had better have a look.

"So are we gonna go undercover?" Rose asked excitedly.

"Yep" the Doctor pulled out his psychic paper and grinned at her.

"One thing before we go Doctor" Rose raised her hand before he could start to ramble about jobs "I am not being a dinner lady so we're either both teachers or I don't go".

The Doctor stared at her for a moment "But what would you teach?" he asked frowning "Like what...what..."

"You think that because I didn't finish school that I'm stupid?" she asked, cocking one eyebrow.

"N...no of course not..." he stammered.

"Good, anyway I'd teach art or something" she sat back in the booth and folded her arms against her chest.

"So let me get this straight" Mickey interrupted "He's going to teach what? Physics? Chemistry? And you're gonna teach art".

"Yep, that's the plan" Rose nodded.

"So are you guys gonna be like husband and wife or what?" It was obvious to both Rose and the Doctor that the idea bothered him.

Rose looked at the Doctor to find him looking at her questioningly "Yeah, yeah sure" she nodded her head "It would make things easier".

"Alright then so it's settled...wife" he teased her.

"We better go get ourselves some jobs...husband" she grinned at him.

Two days later Rose was sick and tired of having paint thrown everywhere. Most of her lessons were spent cleaning everyone up and warning them that they'd be sent to the principal. That threat of the principal seemed to work and Rose knew that there was a good reason for that, even though the children didn't know he was a Krillitane they still had an instinct about him.

Rose wandered down the corridor to the staffroom; she tried to avoid the teachers as much as possible, especially those she knew to be Krillitanes. When she entered the room she saw the Doctor reading through a bunch of the previous teachers notes.

"Hello" she sat down next to him and grinned.

"Hello" he grinned back at her for a moment before another teacher came up to them.

"So are you two newlyweds?" he asked politely.

"Oh yeah" Rose grinned and showed him the ring that the Doctor had got her for the operation.

"Then why aren't you two off on some adventure together" the teacher exclaimed "Young ones like you, it should be all romance and sunshine".

"Well we do like romance" the Doctor grinned and pecked Rose on the lips leaving her speechless for a few moments.

"So where did you two go on your honeymoon?" the teacher asked now grinning at them as well.

"Well...I'll let you tell him honey" the Doctor smiled at Rose.

'Oh great' Rose thought to herself. The Doctor was probably afraid he'd say the name of a planet by accident "Barcelona" she smiled politely at the teacher.

'There you go, easy' Jack teased and Rose could picture his grin.

'Easier than I thought, yes' she agreed.

"Oh lovely" the teacher clapped his hands together.

"Anyway I better get back to my class" the Doctor stood up "Can't leave those students to teach themselves physics now can we?"

"Hold on" called the teacher as he started to walk away "You didn't kiss your wife goodbye, goodness me man if I ever forgot to do that to my wife she'd probably kill me" he laughed.

The Doctor nodded and raced back over to Rose giving her an apologetic look before he gave her a lingering kiss on the lips "See you later" his voice was husky and Rose was yet again speechless.

"Uh...yeah" she forced herself back into character "Love you" she blew a kiss to him and he winked before exiting.

Several minutes later the headmaster arrived with Sarah-Jane and Rose froze from a moment before grinning and getting up to meet her "Sarah-Jane Smith!" she grinned excitedly.

"I'm sorry, do I know you?" she asked politely.

"No...well in the past in the future" Rose laughed.

Sarah-Jane looked around for a moment before lowering her voice and speaking to her quietly "What did you just say? Do you mean you're from my future?"

"Oh Sarah-Jane" Rose found herself grinning again "I dunno why but for some reason I can just feel all his excitement and how he's gonna feel when he sees you again".

"Who?" Sarah-Jane asked puzzled.

"That's the question isn't it" Rose nodded and grinned again "But Doctor who?" she hinted.

Sarah-Jane's eyes went wide and she stared at the woman "Who are you? You can't be here with the Doctor?!"

"Come on outside and we can talk" Rose led her out of the staffroom and out for a walk on the school sporting oval.

"So who are you?" Sarah-Jane repeated once they were sure they were far enough away to not be overheard.

"Alright so I'll start at the very beginning" Rose paused "So I'm Rose Tyler by the way" she held out her hand and Sarah-Jane shook it hesitantly "I began travelling with the Doctor when I was nineteen years old. He's regenerated probably about six times since you last saw him, but I'll leave that for him to tell you. The Doctor and I have been through a lot as I'm sure you and him have also, he's regenerated since I met him and even though he changed it only made me fall for him harder and don't tell me you didn't fall for him because I know you did" she grinned at her again and Sarah-Jane blushed slightly "Anyway as things like that always go, we were separated. Separated between parallel universes to be exact" she sighed sadly and Sarah-Jane studied her closely "My friend came back for me, he'd 'borrowed' timelord technology and found a way through to me. He told me he would take me back in time so that I could relive my life with the Doctor and I could prevent the separation from ever happening".

"But you're going to have to leave him anyway so what was the point?" Sarah-Jane asked a little more rudely then she'd intended.

"Well that's the other thing" Rose stopped for a minute to find the right words "That friend of mine told me that unless it had been one hundred per cent necessary to the universes survival; he wouldn't have been allowed to come and get me. You see I looked into the heart of the TARDIS, into the very heart of time itself. I was dying from the power but the Doctor saved me, giving his life for mine. I became the Bad Wolf; it just seems to be the name that I called myself when I had all the power, I spread the words throughout the universe to send a message to myself or to the Doctor. Anyway since I was taken from this universe the hole I left has been...growing I guess you could say. Basically from what I was told, if I don't make it past our separation and the universe can't heal then we are all doomed. The hole I left will turn into a big black hole and suck in the whole universe and the first thing to go will be the Doctor because of the time vortex he still contains inside him from saving me".

"I don't understand" Sarah-Jane murmured after several minutes of quiet thinking "What makes you so special? I don't mean it rudely of course but really you are just like all of us, an average human being".

Rose shook her head "Not anymore, you see when I relived the moment when I took in the vortex I actually absorbed it properly. He Doctor still thinks he got it out of me and that he saved me but really this time I became powerful. I can do anything I want simply by wishing it".

"Then why haven't you just done that with what is happening at the school?" Sarah-Jane asked, confused "I mean not only do you claim to have the power but you have seen the future and know what will happen".

"Because it messes too much with the original timeline" Rose shook her head "No I can't change it that much, I can enough to save a life or two and to make my meeting with you a little more tolerable" she grinned "but I can't alter big events".

"Was I really unpleasant the first time?" Sarah-Jane asked with a hint of a smile in her voice.

"Well not unpleasant just...indifferent, you really didn't like me and you treated me like a child" Rose laughed.

"That does sound like something I'd do" Sarah-Jane admitted with a sigh before joining Rose for a laugh "So when can I see the Doctor?"

"Well last time you were sneaking around the school at night and you found the TARDIS I believe" Rose frowned thoughtfully "I'll tell him you're here so that we definitely come back later".

"Thankyou" Sarah-Jane stood up and shook her hand again with a genuine smile "I'll be certain to come back later".

"And I'll be certain to tell our timelord friend that you're here" Rose grinned at her. The two women went their separate ways, Sarah-Jane went to pick up her son from his own school and Rose went straight to the car park where she knew the Doctor would soon be waiting for her.

"Hello" he greeted her cheerfully as she approached "I'm sorry about the whole thing earlier" a slight blush was present on his cheeks.

"Should have known it would happen being husband and wife and all".

"It's alright Doctor" she assured him "It's not as if it's the most unpleasant thing I've ever had to do" she raised an eyebrow at him "and it's not as if we haven't done it before".

"Yeah Weeeeellllll..." he trailed off and tried to avoid looking directly at her.

"Anyway I have something important to tell you" she knew that would get his attention "I met someone today..." she saw him visibly shrink slightly.

"And you want to end the marriage façade so that you can go out with him?" he tried not to show his disappointment but it leaked through anyway, why had he always just assumed that Rose was his when she clearly wasn't.

She shook her head and laughed causing him to look up at her again with wide eyes "Oh you're a funny one Doctor" she giggled "No I met this lady today who knows you and her and I had a good chat".

"Oh really" he became serious "Who was she?"

"Her name is Sarah-Jane Smith, one of your past companions" Rose smiled when she saw how his eyes lit up in excitement.

"Sarah-Jane Smith is here?!" he asked excitedly "Oh I haven't seen her for years, that was regenerations ago!"

"She's here to do a journalist report but she's doing a bit of investigation work in the side".

"Of course she is" the Doctor picked up Rose in a playful embrace, spinning her around before realising just how close they were to each other. They looked deeply into each other's eyes and the temptation to kiss became stronger and stronger as they both in turn wet their lips.

It was Rose that looked away first and the Doctor set her down gently "She says she'll come back to the school tonight" Rose continued to speak "I thought you might like to see her again".

"And it doesn't bother you to meet one of my past companions who has moved on with their life?" he asked her incredulously.

"Of course not" Rose grinned at him "I knew there'd been others but you just don't seem to talk about your past so I never brought it up".

"Yeah well...I really didn't know if you'd be happy knowing that there were others" he looked down at his shoes which had suddenly become much more interesting.

"Don't worry Doctor" Rose laughed, coming closer and bending down so that she could look up into his face which was still focused intently on his shoes "It really just makes me feel like I'm in some sort of VIP club if I'm honest, we're all special in some way to you...at least I hope we are" she grinned at him and he couldn't help but crack a smile.

"Of course you are!" he exclaimed happily hugging her again.

"Maybe you could tell me about some of them sometime" she suggested hopefully.

"Maybe" he said sounding very nonchalant "But for now we have a school to explore" he grinned at her and they both headed back inside the building as the sky got darker outside.

Mickey insisted on coming along and they split up to search different areas. Rose had told him about the oil, making up some explanation for her being there. She headed down to the kitchens to get it feeling a little uneasy about the shadows she kept seeing.
The Doctor walked down the corridor the Finch's office and saw movement up ahead. Sarah-Jane Smith was making her way along the corridor and something made him hide. He watched her go inside the storage cupboard where he had parked the TARDIS and he rose from his hiding place, waiting for her to come back out.

She backed out slowly and breathed deeply, she knew Rose had been telling the truth but seeing the truth was a whole different matter. She turned around and there was suddenly a man a few steps away from her. She vaguely recognised him from earlier that day when he had been rushing a long a corridor.

"Hello Sarah-Jane" he said softly.

She gaped at him, of all the men he could have been of course this was him. His style was a little crazy and she had heard him say that his name was John Smith.

"Doctor" she let out a sigh and smiled at him "It's really you" she stepped forward hesitantly "You've regenerated".

"Oh half a dozen times since we last met" he gave her a small smile.

"You look incredible" she shook her head slightly as if she still couldn't quite believe it.

"So do you" he smiled back at her.

"Oh I got old" she shook her head.

"I'm much older" he grinned and she rolled her eyes.

"What are you doing here anyway?" she asked, the authority in her voice was back.

"Oh Rose didn't tell you?" he asked frowning.

"Well sort of" she shrugged "That's one special girl you've got their Doctor".

'No Sarah-Jane, he can't know about my powers, not yet' hissed a voice inside her head and she froze for a moment.

The Doctor grinned "Yeah well, as she said earlier today you're all special to me".

She smiled for a moment until her emotions got the better of her "I thought you'd died".

"No I survived" his smile faded slightly "Everyone else died".

"What do you mean?" she asked stepping closer.

"Everyone died Sarah" he let out a sigh "I'm all alone in the universe".

"You've still got us, you've definitely got Rose" she smiled again "But I...I still can't believe it's actually you". Mickey's distant scream sounded in the air and they turned their heads towards the noise "Ok now I can" she grinned excitedly and they ran towards the source of the noise.

They ran along the corridor and ran straight into a flash of blonde in front of them "Did you hear that?" Rose asked them panting "Oh hello again" she grinned at Sarah-Jane who gave her a small smile.

The Doctor watched in wonder as the two companions smiled at one another. He'd half expected them to be...oh well not rude, probably just forcibly polite to one another. He wandered along behind them, keeping up but giving them a bit of space.

"Did you send me that message?" Sarah-Jane whispered quietly to Rose.

"Yeah" Rose nodded "With some help from a friend but that's a story for later".

"I didn't know the Doctor was the last timelord" Sarah-Jane sighed "Now I know why you having all that power is important, you don't want to leave him alone".

"I couldn't" Rose smiled at her "Even if I wanted to I couldn't".

"Why can't he know?"

"Because if he did it would drastically change to timelines" Rose whispered urgently back and Sarah-Jane nodded in understanding.
"I'm sorry, I'm alright it's just me" Mickey held up his hands as they approached him "All of these rats just fell onto me".

"And you screamed?" Rose laughed.

"Like a little girl" the Doctor added gleefully.

"It was dark and I was covered in rats!" Mickey objected.

"I'm thinking nine maybe ten years old" Rose took the words right out of the Doctor's mouth and he stared at her for a moment before continuing.

"Pigtail, frilly skirt" the Doctor gesturing with an irritated tone to his voice making Rose laugh.

"This is wrong though" Rose nodded to the rats "Rats in school".

"They dissect them though don't they" Sarah-Jane couldn't help the little bit of triumph she felt to correct the Doctor's newest companion.

"No not anymore, they haven't done that for years" Rose shook her head but spoke kindly.

"Anyway we better go and check out the headmaster's office" the Doctor tossed the rat back that he'd just picked up. He was a little bit worried that Rose and Sarah-Jane would unleash their hostility towards one another, it was clear that it was there but they just pushed it aside.

"So the missus and the ex aye?" Mickey threw an arm around the Doctor's shoulders "Welcome to every man's worst nightmare".

The Doctor ignored his comment and soniced the door to the headmaster's office "Oh" he whispered when he got inside "Well this explains why you never see any of the teachers leave" he opened the door wider to let everyone else in.

"No way" Mickey ran back down the corridor and Rose, Sarah-Jane and the Doctor followed behind him, a little slower.

"So there are giant bat people in the school, just fantastic" Mickey was doubled over catching his breath when the others walked calmly out the front doors.

"Oh I have to go back to the TARDIS" the Doctor turned to go back inside "I have to analyse that oil Rose got".

"I can help you with that" Sarah-Jane said excitedly, leading him over to her car.

The Doctor lifted up the blanket and exclaimed happily "K9! Rose Tyler, Mickey Smith allow me to introduce K9 mark three".

"He looks fantastic" Rose grinned at the metal dog "But what's wrong with him?" she asked, noticing how the metal plating was off him on one side.

"I don't know" Sarah-Jane said sadly "He just stopped one day".

"I'm sorry but could you guys stop talking about the tin dog and get in the car" Mickey said a bit rudely "I just don't want to get eaten by bat people".

They all reluctantly got in the car and drove to the nearest café, Sarah-Jane and the Doctor sat together while he worked in K9 and Rose and Mickey waited for Rose's order of chips to arrive.

"I can't believe this" Mickey shook his head "I've lasted over an hour without saying 'I told you so'".

"I knew this was coming" Rose shrugged.

"I have prepared a little...wait what?" he frowned at her.

"I'm rewriting my timeline Mickey, I knew that Sarah-Jane was coming" she sighed.

"Wait you're rewriting your timeline?!" he asked with wide eyes.

"Keep your voice down" she chastised him "The Doctor can't know".

"So all this has already happened to you?"

"Yeah" she sighed "You see the Doctor and I get separated between parallel universes in the future but because of the power that even the first time he didn't completely take out of me I became important to the universe. With me missing it created a black hole and eventually this universe would collapse on itself".

"Because you're missing?" Mickey asked sounding amazed.

"Exactly, anyway jack came to find me in the parallel world and he brought me back to relive my life with the Doctor and to make sure the separation never happens, that's why I'm calm when stuff like this happens".

"Alright so if you're telling me the truth then tell me what sort of alien those bat people are" Mickey challenged her.

"They're Krillitanes and this" she held out the jar of green goo "Is Krillitane oil, just you wait". They both looked up when they heard the Doctor exclaim happily.

"Ok now we're in business!" he grinned at K9 who spoke to him straight away "He recognises me! Rose can I please have the oil?" he called to her and she got up straight away with a wink at Mickey.

She gave it to him and he dipped his fingers straight into the jar. K9 processed the oil and they all sat waiting in anticipation, particularly Mickey who needed to know if Rose was correct.

After stuttering for a moment K9 spoke "Substance is Krillitane oil".

Mickey stared open-mouthed at rose who just grinned at him. "They're Krillitanes" the Doctor murmured seriously "They're a composite race" he continued after seeing the look of confusion on everyone's faces except Rose "Just like your culture is a mixture of different traditions from different countries, people you've invaded or been invaded by. The Krillitanes take physical aspects as well, they take the best bits from the people they destroy that's why I didn't recognise them, the last time I saw Krillitanes they looked just like us except they had really long necks".

"Then they've got to be doing something with the children then" Rose piped up.

"Yeah" he nodded his head and let himself slip deep into his thoughts.

"Alright Mickey" Sarah-Jane addressed him "Would you please help me carry K9 back to my car, you know Smith team and whatnot".
He grinned at her "Sure, I'd be happy to help you".

Rose stayed with the Doctor for a while "So how many companions have you had?" she asked innocently.

"Does it matter?" he sounded a bit frustrated.

"I was just wondering" she held up her hands defensively "Don't worry I know I'm just one in a long line" she rushed out the door and was almost halfway across the car park when he caught her arm.

"As opposed to what?" his eyes bored into her.

"Don't worry Doctor" she planted a fake smile on her face and kept walking.

The façade didn't fool him for a second and he grabbed her arm and held her back again "Rose".

"I said don't worry Doctor" she looked up at him with the typical Tyler stubbornness in her eyes "I thought we were..." she struggled to find the right word "I dunno friends, I thought we had something special but I guess I got it wrong, but don't worry, if you were just gonna leave me behind anyway then it's better I know how you feel before I go".

"I wasn't going to leave you behind" his grip tightened on her arm "I won't".

"But you were so close to Sarah-Jane and you just left her behind...it just makes me wonder you know?" she dropped her gaze to avoid his.

"Rose I don't age, I just regenerate, humans will decay, you wither and you die, imagine watching that happen to someone that you..." he trailed off before he could let the cat out of the bag.

Rose shivered, even though she had already been through this conversation once, that moment made her heart race. "Doctor..."

"You can spend the rest of your life with me...but I can't spend the rest of mine with you" he sounded choked like he was almost in tears and it broke her heart to have to keep her secret from him "I have to live on...alone, the curse of the"-

"Doctor" Rose stopped him in his tracks by placing her hand on his cheek "I know that you believe you can't get close to people and you try to distance them but just think for a minute, you give us the opportunity of a lifetime and we are only a select few out of the whole planets population and we are so grateful that you chose us, I am so grateful that you chose me".

"But I take away your lives" the Doctor shook his head and spluttered "I selfishly bring you with me so that I am not alone and I ignore the consequences".

"I will never regret our adventures Doctor" Rose shook her head at him "I'm sure Sarah-Jane doesn't either, you don't take away our lives you give us them, proper lives, not sitting around watching tellie and eating chips, we get to see the splendour of the universe and we get to be a part of it, it's a gift Doctor".

"But what about when you can't anymore, when you're weak and tired?"

"That part doesn't matter, yes it happens but why dwell on it when we can enjoy right now?" she asked hoping that he would see the love in her eyes.

"But I can't watch that happen!" he exclaimed with a lot more emotion then she expected him to release "I can't watch you wither while I stay the same".

"Well maybe you won't have to" Rose shrugged.

"What do you mean by that..." he trailed off with a horrified look on his face "Rose Tyler if you die on one of our adventures I will personally make sure whatever caused it never gets a peaceful day in its life!"

"Hey calm down I didn't mean that, don't get so pessimistic" she moved the hand on his cheek and gave him a light slap to bring him out of his ramble.

"Sorry" he shrugged and grinned at her "Timelords can be a bit emotionally unstable".

Suddenly one of the Krillitanes came swooping at them from above narrowly missing their heads. "Was that a Krillitane?" asked Sarah-Jane breathlessly as it flew off silhouetted against the moonlight.

"Yeah" the Doctor watched is it and Mr Finch, who had been perched up on a ledge across the street, flew away into the night "Come on then, I think we better get some sleep and deal with this again tomorrow, Sarah you take K9 back to your house and we'll meet you there".

"Alright" Sarah nodded and hurried back over to her car as the others went back inside and into the TARDIS.

Rose and Mickey fell asleep quickly but the Doctor couldn't sleep, they were all in the library in sleeping bags and Sarah-Jane was sitting on one of the other lounges. Rose's head was resting in the Doctor's lap as he read one of his books.

Sarah-Jane looked over at the position of the Doctor and Rose and smiled "I suppose this I a common occurrence?" she couldn't help but smile as she gestured to Rose.

The Doctor smiled as well and nodded "Yeah, I chase away her nightmares".

"And does she chase away yours?" Sarah asked fondly.

The Doctor nodded again "She really helped me after the time war had ended and everyone was gone" he explained, his voice was slightly shaky "She brought me back and no matter how many times I thank her for it she still doesn't acknowledge that it was her".

"And you're besotted with her" Sarah-Jane smiled almost sadly.

The looked up at her and swallowed hard "Yeah well there's not much I can do about that".

"At least you admitted it" she shut her book and put it down on the coffee table "Why don't you allow yourself to love?"

"You know why" he mumbled, fiddling aimlessly with Rose's hair.

"Yes but Doctor everyone has to go through that on Earth, well half of every couple will have to face that".

"But I'm not a human and it would be much too soon to lose her if I gave in to my feelings" he sighed "I'm an alien anyway, not that that bothers most people but to be in a relationship with one? I can just imagine the slaps I'd get from her mother" he let out a small laugh.

"From what she's told me I know that she loves you Doctor" Sarah-Jane shook her head "Technically she's given her life for you, well the best part of it so why don't you return the favour and give her a little piece of your hearts?"

"Because it would break me when she...when she..."

"Some things are worth getting your heart broken for" Sarah-Jane stood up "Anyway I'm just going to pop out into my house and have a sleep, tiring stuff this adventuring" she laughed and ruffled his hair as she went, leaving him to think about what she'd just said.

When morning came the Doctor woke up alone and realised that he had slept the whole night with Rose on his lap. He looked around the room just as Rose appeared in the doorway with two cups of tea. The mere sight of her after the conversation he'd had with Sarah-Jane made him nervous and he felt a rush of adrenaline as she sat down beside him.

"Sleep well?" she asked cheekily.

"I didn't even realise I'd fallen asleep" he said taking the mug off her and sipping the tea.

"It was one of the few times I've ever seen you actually sleep" she laughed "All the times we've shared a room you've usually been up first".

"Yeah well I don't usually sleep that much...unless your there" he smiled at her and she felt warmed somehow.

"You saying I'm that boring?" she joked.

"Definitely not" he laughed nudging her shoulder with his. Hey looked at each other and it was like one of those moments where everything changes to slow motion, like in movies when the two people are just about to kiss for the first time, but it was real.

"Hey Rose" Mickey's voice made them spring apart and Rose blushed bright red. He'd just walked blindly in the door like he always did and he had ruined the moment.

"Mickey, don't scare me like that" Rose huffed at him, holding her hand to her chest.

"Right sorry, anyway" he continued, still oblivious to what was about to happen before he walked in "I was wondering if you wanted bacon and eggs or not".

'Really?!' Rose thought to herself 'that's all he interrupted for?! Oh Mickey you are an'-

"Rose?"

"Sorry" she gave her head a bit of a shake "No thanks I'll come and make some banana pancakes in a minute".

The Doctor grinned at that, he loved how much she had become like him in the habits she had and the tastes she had, though he was sure banana pancakes would taste much better to him then to her, him with his superior senses.

"Alright then" he nodded and left the room.

"What're you smirking at?" Rose asked the Doctor when she caught him looking at her.

"You" he laughed and drained his cup of tea "Right come on Rose Tyler" he offered her his hand.

"Why do you use my full name all the time?" she asked, taking his hand and letting him pull her up.

"Why so many questions?" he pulled her out of the room and down the hall to the kitchen.

After everyone had eaten breakfast and they were ready to go, the Doctor moved the TARDIS near the school. Mickey had driven with Sarah-Jane but Rose had insisted on coming with him in the TARDIS. They waited in the carp park as the students flooded into the school; unaware that they were being used to further a group of aliens plan to take over the universe.

When the others arrived they walked towards the school together "Alright Rose and Sarah I want you to go the maths room and crack open those computers, I want to see the hardware inside. Here you might need this" he placed his sonic screwdriver carefully in Rose's hand taking her completely by surprise. "Mickey, surveillance, I want you outside".

"What just stand out here?" Mickey asked in disbelief.

"Keep K9 company for me would you?" Sarah-Jane tossed him the keys.

Mickey continued to yell but Rose tuned out "So what're you gonna do?"

"It's time I had a word with Mr Finch" he swept down the corridor and up the stairs with the crowd so students, leaving Sarah-Jane and Rose to do their job.

The entered the classroom and Rose sat down on the floor as Sarah-Jane had a try at the computer with the screwdriver "It's just not working" she hit it on her palm "It used to work first time in my day".

"Here" Rose held out her hand "Do you want me to have a go?"

"Be my guest" the older woman handed it to her and sat down beside her "Rose?"

"Yeah" she was pretty sure she knew what was coming but she held her tongue.

"I really don't want to seem like I'm intruding but...well why can't you tell the Doctor about your 'powers' as you call them. He'd be so happy to know that he never has to be alone, I'm sure he would".

This surprised Rose and she sat up beside her "I'm not allowed to until I live through our separation, it's one of the rules my friend told me I had to go by, otherwise I might just break his heart, you know, him finding out I'll live as long as him then me being sucked away again, well...I know I'd be heartbroken".

Sarah-Jane sighed "I suppose your right, just make sure that you tell him as soon as you can".

"Don't worry, I will" she patted her on the arm "You know I could make it so that you live forever" the thought had suddenly struck her.

"Oh" Sarah-Jane was taken aback "Oh no I wouldn't want that, that part of my life is over and I really don't think I could do it you know, living through the lives of my children and grandchildren".

"Yeah well...I guess I'll be the one who's stuck with the Doctor" she laughed "And all of his quirks".

"And he has many of those" Sarah-Jane laughed.

"With you, did he do that thing where he'd explain something at like ninety miles per hour then you'd go what and he'd look at you like you just dribbled on your shirt?"

"All the time" Sarah-Jane burst into a fit of giggles "Does he still stroke bits of the TARDIS?"

Rose laughed "Yes!" they both kept giggling "I'm like, do you two wanna be alone?" the laughter continued.

The Doctor chose that precise moment to arrive "How's it going?"

When they saw him they just burst out laughing even harder "What?" he asked totally serious, causing them to clutch their sides "Listen I need to find out what's programed inside these...what? Stop it" but he could stop them as they continued to laugh.

Rose let the Doctor try and get into the computer and watched the door as the student tried to come in early "No you lot, this room's out of bounds so go down to the south hall".

Sarah-Jane examined who of the computers as a green screen flashed up "You wanted the program".

The Doctor looked up at the biggest screen as the numbers and codes flashed on it; some of it was in different languages. "It can't be...they're trying to crack the Skasas Paradigm".

"And what's that?" asked Sarah-Jane.

"The God-maker, the universal theory, crack that and you control the building blocks of the universe. You control time and space and matter to do as you wish".

"So the kids are the computer and they've been feeding them that oil in their food to make them more intelligent".

"My guess it was on the chips" he nodded "I didn't really like the taste of them but they never made a difference to my brain".

"Of course not" Rose rolled her eyes "But I've been eating them" her eyes went wide and she looked at him, terrified. Everything went black and she felt herself slip away.

"Hi Jack" she waved casually to him, it was becoming a common occurrence for there to be glitches so as soon as she felt herself slipping away she'd make sure she was in a safe place where there were no objects that could harm her and after dropping a glass of water everywhere she soon learned to make sure she wasn't holding anything.

"Hey Rose" he got up and gave her a hug "You and the Doctor sure have made some moves in your relationship aye?"

"Not really" she shrugged before hugging him back "Oh Jack you have no idea how much it is hurting me not to be able to tell him".

"I'm sorry and I know...if I could let you then I would I promise...but I can't, rules are rules".

"I know" she pulled away and looked around "You've changed the place a bit".

"Well it's been a couple of days since the last glitch so you just haven't been here to admire my decorating skills" he grinned and she rolled her eyes again.

"This glitch won't be as long as the others so no movie this time...well we could start one but you'd probably be gone by the time the starting credits finish".

"So should I be ready to run or what?"

"Oh I dunno, you should probably come to when you're outside and the school's about to blow up".

"Good" she nodded "I wouldn't want something to go wrong and them capture me, who knows what they could do if they had the power inside me. They certainly wouldn't need to crack the Skasas paradigm that's for sure".

"Don't you get all cocky about your powers now Rosie" he laughed "Even though you're right, you can't always depend on them and it's going to take you an awful lot of training when I can't monitor you anymore".

She laughed "I'm sorry it's just...well it's amazing really, you just can't imagine what it's like until you experience it".

"Well from what I've felt in here it feels similar to how I feel when I get 'killed'".

"You know if it wasn't for Eva I'd still feel sorry for doing that a second time" she smiled sadly.

"Yeah well if you hadn't then I wouldn't even have been here to send you back in the first place".

"Well there you go then, now I'm glad" she grinned.

"So am I" he walked over to his other desk and leaned against it "You fading away yet? I can feel it you know, so it won't be long".

"Yeah, soon I'll be back to reliving my adventures" she sighed.

"Isn't it fun though? You know what happens".

"Yeah some bits are fun but then there's the deaths, I feel like such a failure if I don't manage to save them but sometimes I just...can't I suppose. Sometimes it would affect the timelines a little too much or it was just impossible, you know you saw it all".

"Yeah but I also saw you doing the best you could to try and save those innocent lives, besides I heard you and the Doctor's little dream communication and I think he's pretty proud of your efforts so far"

That made Rose smile "Oh I miss him so much, this version of him just doesn't feel quite the same, I mean don't get me wrong I'm still head over heels for him but I just feel like...I really can't wait until he's back...oh I dunno if you understand but really for me it's like this Doctor is just like a clone or something".

"Yeah well that was bound to happen and hey don't worry it's perfectly understandable" he walked over to her and placed his hands on her shoulders "Don't let me tease you into doing anything rash with this Doctor ok? I know I joke but you really do know that your Doctor is just waiting for you at the other end and he loves you very much".

"Thanks Jack" she pulled him in for a hug "I think they both do".

"And they will both let you know it before the end" he grinned.

"Since when did you become so...wise and so...enigmatic?"

"Oh I dunno" he winked at her. It was the last thing she saw before she was ripped back to reality just in time to see the school go up in flames.

She turned to see the Doctor with his arm around Sarah-Jane, she was trying her best not to break down but Rose could tell she was heartbroken. She walked over to them and gave Sarah-Jane a quick hug, not wanting to interrupt their moment.

She walked back over to Mickey would wrapped an arm around her shoulders "How you going?" he asked grinning down at her "You were a little bit confused back there".

"Yeah well re-living your timeline come with its problems" she sighed "There's these glitches and for a while I go to a place where Jack is inside my head" she saw his confused expression and laughed "It's difficult to explain but basically I black out and the past version of me takes over, sort of like an autopilot".

"That's why you sometimes act like we're still together" he nodded his head sadly.

"Mickey I"-

"Rose" the Doctor came up behind them and made Rose jump when he placed a hand on the small of her back, not that he could tap her on the shoulder with Mickey's arms there.

"What's wrong Doctor?"

"I'll be gone for about fifteen minutes" he nodded his head "I have to go and get Sarah-Jane a new puppy" he smiled at her "It'll take about three hours really but I'll come back here fifteen minutes from now and pick you guys up so please be careful" he placed one hand on the side of her face and kissed her forehead gently.

When he'd walked out of earshot Mickey spoke up "So are you sure there isn't anything actually going on between you two?"

"Mickey..."

"No don't worry about me I'm fine if there is but hey I thought you might like to talk to someone about it".

She grinned "Well thanks Mickey but Its fine, the Doctor and I are good friends and I don't wanna ruin that".

"Oh but you wish you could" he nudged her with his elbow.

"Do you want to come with us?" she asked out of impulse.

"Uh...yeah, yeah sure" he looked absolutely delighted "I mean as long as you're ok with it".

"Of course I am Mickey" she wrapped her arm around his middle and squeezed him close to her "Where would I be if I didn't have mates like you?"

"Well probably back in the TARDIS with your tongue down a certain alien's throat" he raised an eyebrow.

"Mickey Smith!" she slapped him repeatedly on the arm "You know I'm not like that".

"Oh well I dunno" he laughed and she shoved him again making him fall back.

"Come on" she linked their arms "I think a nice walk in the park would be good".

They set off through the sweet smelling flowers and Rose just listened to the sounds of the birds and the water trickling from the fountain. She glanced up at Mickey occasionally to see him watching her "What?" she asked when she could bare it no longer.

"Oh I was just thinking...what's your life gonna be like when we're gone?" he asked seriously.

Rose's eyes automatically brimmed with tears "What do you mean?"

"I mean when you've used up every possible second you could spend with us, when we die Rose then what will you do?"

"I'll..." she felt as though the words were choking her and she had to cough them out quickly "I'll have the Doctor...and Jack and Eva. I really don't want to talk about that, Mickey" she looked tearfully up at him.

"But it will happen".

"Yeah Mickey" she sniffed loudly and wiped away some of her tears "It will but I'm not gonna waste a second of my time with you guys worrying about it".

"Rose?" the Doctor's voice echoed through the park as she spotted him on the little bridge over the stream watching them closely.

"Doctor" she mumbled and ran to hug him.

"Rose what's wrong?" he asked kissing her forehead again and wrapping her up in his arms.

"Don't worry Doctor" she smiled up at him "It doesn't matter now" she wiped her eyes again and looked to where the TARDIS was parked "Did Sarah-Jane already leave?"

"Yeah" he reached up to rub the back of his neck "She said goodbye to both of you and she wanted me to tell you specifically that if you ever need her, all you have to do is call her".

"I will make sure I do that" Rose smiled "By the way Doctor?"

"Oh no I know that face" he cringed "What is it?"

"Can Mickey come along? He just wants to give it a go and who am I to decide, after all you are the designated driver".

The Doctor had to take a deep breath in order to hold in his disappointment. Of course Rose would want Mickey to come, she said they'd broken up but of course she still had feelings for him. He let out the breath he'd been holding slowly and plastered a grin on his face "Of course! The more the merrier!"

"Aye thanks Doc" Mickey slapped him on the back and started to move towards the TARDIS.

"Are you sure it's alright?" Rose asked as they lingered behind.

"Oh yeah why not?" the Doctor grinned at her but the look she gave him made his grin fade "What?"

She shook her head and smiled "Don't look so disappointed Doctor, it's only one or two trips and it doesn't mean we won't make banana pancakes".

"But he's there" the Doctor gave in and decided to have his whinge "He'll eat them all and we'll never get a moments peace let alone at night time" he glowered "Do you really think he'll let you stay in my room at night or me in yours?"

"Oh come off it Doctor" she shook her head and laughed at him "It's not like he's still my boyfriend, I can do whatever I like and besides it's perfectly innocent anyway so..." she shrugged "And you are a big scary timelord so he can't exactly tell you what to do now can he?"

"I suppose not" he sighed and then a true smile broke over his face "You Rose Tyler are Amazing".

"No I just tell you what you want to hear" she cocked an eyebrow "But in all seriousness you're amazing too Doctor".

They walked back to the TARDIS hand in hand, before the Doctor opened the door he paused for a moment, this was going to be interesting.

Alright so Rose is getting some even more interesting powers, telepathic powers ;) Mickey still had to come with them because this next chapter (TGITF) wouldn't be quite as fun without him. Please feel free to tell me what you think, i'm keen to hear how I handled this chapter. :)
