Derek's clawed hand swiped through the air where the female Alpha had stood mockingly only a few moments earlier. Venting a growl of frustration, Derek pivoted forwards towards her and attempted a second swipe. Faster than I'd ever seen Derek move, his adversary shot out a clawed hand and caught Derek's arm before it travelled half the distance to it's target. Grimacing, the two Alphas retained their positions as they struggled for Derek's arm before the female shoved it brutally to the side. Immediately, she clawed the air towards Derek's gut but the Alpha swiveled his torso sideways and answered with a downward strike. The arm was caught again and the female managed to slice Derek's side whilst he was preoccupied reclaiming his limb.
The Alpha roared in retaliation but the she-wolf paid no heed, thrusting her knee into Derek's stomach. Derek growled and cut forwards, forcing his opponent to retreat enough to grant him sufficient room to shove her backwards. The female Alpha bared her fangs and executed a perfect backflip, her toe-claws whistling dangerously close to Derek's face. As he jumped backwards, her right leg shot out towards his thigh, propelling him downwards into the water.
The female Alpha leapt towards him and pulled him upwards by a fistful of his hair, her other arm wrapped around his neck.
'We have to do something,' I hissed desperately.
'I already texted Cora,' Boyd growled, his eyes glowing yellow as he fought the urge to protect Derek.
Ms. Blake screamed as the Derek received another wound from the female Alpha. The shrill sound echoed around the loft.
'Are she going to make it in time?' I asked the betas.
'Hopefully,' Isaac replied grimly.
BRRRR
Isaac's phone vibrated and his screen lit up.
'They made it in time,' he said shortly before he tugged Boyd and I towards Ms. Blake at a dead sprint.
'Keep us dry!' he hollered to me.
I felt a pull in my gut as I willed all the water off Derek. Seconds later, I felt rather than saw a rush of electricity that travelled almost instantaneously throughout the room of water. Simultaneously, Isaac and I reached Ms. Blake and he held her in a protective grip, the twins no longer there as they took priority over their female pack member, moving towards her aide as they spotted Boyd who hand decided to move towards her instead of following Isaac.
Only one of the twins reached Boyd by the time the power came back on; the other tethered precariously on the edge of the last step leading towards the waters edge, aware of the consequences.
The water lit up sporadically like the world's largest strobe light. Unfortunately, three alphas and one beta fell to the watery floor as electricity surged through their body.
Unfortunately, my powers only worked to an extent – I'd kept Derek and Boyd dry, but not the Alphas who had been restraining them moments before the water lit up. I'd forgotten that the human body was a conductor; the electricity that surged through the female Alpha and one of the twins surged through their hands into Boyd and Derek.
Incredibly, irritably, the female and twin alpha stood up from the water, the electricity apparently leaving them less affected than Derek and Boyd. The female bared her fangs in frustration
'Hold him!' she ordered, pointing a clawed finger at Derek.
Obediently, the two teens held Derek by his hands, forcing his claws skywards.
'What are they doing?' I breathed out, collapsed on the concrete steps.
'Don't watch,' Isaac gasped out, 'there's nothing we can do or else we'll receive the same fate'.
'What?' I hissed, 'what do you mean?'
'Don't watch'.
Ms. Blake whimpered.
The female alpha lifted Boyd's weak form off the floor and dropped him onto Derek's forcibly outstretched claws. I stared, frozen where I was, Isaac's hand gripping my arm in case I decided to storm the Alphas.
Boyd choked as Derek's eyes glowed a bright red before falling still. The Alpha's let him drop to the ground.
'I'm giving you till the next full moon Derek,' the female called out as she walked towards us; leaving the Derek and the twins with Boyd's body, 'make the smart choice'.
The twins left Derek and followed their pack-member, 'join the pack,' she paused and spun to face him, 'or next time I'm killing all of you,' she glanced down at me, 'even your newest… recruit'.
The Alpha pack walked out the door.
