Sam nervously paced back and forth across the floor as Miracle and Mercedes put together a Spiderman puzzle on the kitchen table. The blonde chewed on the side of his fingernail as he made his way to the couch and finally plopped down with a sigh. Mercedes glanced over at him and then looked at Mira who was staring right back at her. The older woman pasted on a smile and swallowed down the bile that was in the back of her throat. She was just as nervous as Sam was, but she was obviously better at hiding it than her partner. The little girl held up a piece in her hand and looked at the puzzle pieces that they already had put together. She got up from her seat, which was across from Mercedes, and slowly walked over to the woman before climbing into her lap to see the puzzle from that angle. Mira placed the puzzle piece down where she thought it went and then began laughing when it was placed, "Mercy, look! It's Spiderman's butt!" She squealed in between her fits of laughter. "I touched his butt!" Mercedes couldn't help but laugh along with the infectious giggle and hugged the child to her chest.

"Mira, you're so silly." She smiled and picked up another piece. Miracle followed suit and picked up another piece as well. "Hmm, where should this one go?" Mercedes mused out loud as she studied the developing picture. She could see Miracle turn her head to look at her from the corner of her eyes. She turned her own head and looked down at the small child.

Mira's eyes widened and her tongue peaked out from the corner of her mouth, Mercedes knew she was about to ask her something, "Mercy?"

"Mira?"

Miracle smiled and then her face grew serious, "You have a mommy, a daddy, and a baby brother...right?" Mercedes smiled warmly at her.

"Sort of, he's not a baby anymore, but he certainly acts like one." Miracle nodded and then looked at her father who was now lying down on the couch, staring at the ceiling.

"Oh...I get it now. I thought daddy was scared of a baby, a very big baby!" She giggled and placed the piece in the wrong place, trying to force it to fit. Mercedes gently lifted the child's hand and redirected her to the correct spot. "What's your mommy like?"

Mercedes was thrown off by the question and cleared her throat before she looked over in Sam's direction. She could see him slightly looking at her before his eyes rolled back up towards the ceiling. "Um...my mom is a very strong lady."

"Like the Hulk?!" Miracle smiled widely, brandishing her little white teeth.

"Uh...kind of, she can be really nice sometimes, but when she's upset, she turns into a she-Hulk, without turning green or anything."

Miracle thought this over, "Does she get really really big!? And smash everything!?"

Mercedes grinned, "Eh, only when she doesn't have coffee..." Miracle laughed and nodded her head. "And then my daddy is always very nice, when I was really little we use to have feet matches, where I'd sit on one end of the couch and he'd sit on the other side. We'd put our fee together and push..." Mercedes laughed at the memory, "Somehow I always won."

"Daddy and I tried that! But then he tooted and we never did it again...I was too scared." Mercedes laughed at the image and she could hear Sam groaning from the living room in embarrassment. "Who's your baby brother?"

Mercedes stopped laughing and wiped her eyes, "His name is Malcolm and he fixes cars, he's like my mom that he can turn into the Hulk really fast, but he's also like my dad where he can be so sweet." She paused for a moment as Miracle moved another puzzle piece in the right place. This time is was Spiderman's hand. She looked at the little girl, then glanced at Sam who had suddenly dozed off, and made a decision. "I had a sister too..." She said softly. Miracle picked up another piece and looked at Mercedes.

"You have a sister?!" She exclaimed excitedly. Mercedes nodded slowly. "Is she pretty like you?"

Mercedes gave her a sad smile, "Oh no Jane was much much prettier than I was."

The little girl cocked her head to the side, "Is she coming too with your baby brother?" Mercedes shook her head.

"No, Jane's not here on Earth anymore, she's an angel now. So that means she watches over everything and everyone I love." She squeezed Miracle and kissed the side of her head.

Miracle nodded, "Oh, does she watch me too?" Her eyes widened, "Sometimes I eat chips when I'm not supposed to before dinner time, does she see that?" Mercedes laughed.

"Yes, but I think she's okay with you eating one or two chips before dinner, but no more than that okay?" Mira nodded with a smile.

"You got it dude!" Miracle turned her body against Mercedes and nestled into her arms. "Mercy, I love you." She said quietly, "Can you be my family with daddy too?" Mercedes felt her heart melt as the small child rested against her.

Mercedes sighed happily, "Yes, I'll be your family if you want me to be and my family can be your family too...so you can call my mom grandma and my dad grandpa, and my brother uncle Malcolm if you want..."

Miracle giggled, "Yay, now I have two families!" Just then a knock sounded at Sam's front door. He bolted upright and almost looked a little bit lost. The blonde stared at Mercedes and then got up from the couch to open the door.

"Who is it?" He asked as he peered through the peep hole.

"Barack Obama!" The voice sounded from the other side of the door. Mercedes rolled her eyes and Miracle stared at her dad. Not being old enough to understand the reference, she tried to connect to something that sounded similar to what the stranger had said.

"A llama?!" She lit up and ran to her dad's side to see. He picked her up and held her with one arm, while he opened the door with his other hand. Standing in front of him was a shorter man holding a large teddy bear in his hand. Both father and daughter stared at Malcolm in surprise. "You're not a llama!" She raised one eyebrow as Sam took a step back to let Mercedes' brother in. By then she had walked over to the group by the door.

Malcolm laughed and then feigned surprise, "I'm not? Are you sure?" Miracle looked him up and down as if to make sure and then nodded. "Well I'm sorry. I might not be a llama, but I did bring a friend for you." He held out the bear that was as big as she was, if not bigger. Miracle looked at her father for permission. He smiled at her and nodded before she leaned forward and hugged the bear to her body.

"Thank you mister." Her voice was muffled in the bear's fur. Sam put her down on the ground and she walked over to Mercedes to show her. "Look Mercy!" Mercedes ooed and awed over the furry animal before shaking his paw and introducing herself.

"Oh hi there mister bear!"

"She's a girl Mercy, her name is Tiana."

"Oh my apologies." Mercedes laughed and then glanced at her brother. "Well Mira, this is my brother Malcolm."

Miracle smiled up at the other man, "Hi Uncle Malcolm, do you want to see my toys?" Malcolm's eyes widened at the 'uncle' part and Sam whipped his head in Mercedes direction.

Mercedes cleared her throat, "Miracle asked me to be part of her family, so I told her that she could be a part of mine too. So she can call Malcolm uncle if she wanted to."

"I have bajillions of uncles right daddy?! There's uncle Kurt who gives me pretty dresses, and there's uncle Artie who rolls me around when my feet get tired, and there's uncle Puck who taught me how to hold my breath for a really long time, wanna see?" She took a deep breath to hold it in, but Sam tickled her. "Daddy!"

"Don't do that, or you'll grow a mohawk like your uncle Puck did." Miracle gasped and touched her thick hair with one hand. "Exactly. But okay, go show Malcolm your toys."

She reached out and grabbed her uncle's hand before dragging him into her room. Their dog followed after them, continuously sniffing out the stranger to make sure his little owner was safe. Mercedes stared at the little girl's room before turning her attention to Sam. He took her hand, pulled her against him and into a hug. He wrapped his arms around her tightly as she went on to her tip toes to give him a soft kiss on the lips. "Mercy, we need a night away from all of this...even if it's like ten minutes or something." He sighed, "I just want to be relaxed with you by my side." He mumbled against her neck.

She kissed the side of his head and nodded, "Let's do it. We can see if Quinn can babysit maybe and just be alone for a little bit." Sam pulled back and kissed her again, more deeply, and a bit more urgent.

"I like that idea. But let's not go far, just in case Mira gets sick again." He looked towards his daughter's bedroom where he could hear his daughter talking animatedly and then he looked down at his girlfriend.

"Agreed." She smiled up at him and kissed the corner of his mouth. After a few moments, they heard amused laughter coming from Mira's room. They walked over and found Mira wearing a large tea hat, sitting on the floor across from her uncle who was wearing a floral scarf around his neck and sipping pretend tea, with his finger in the air. "Um..." Mercedes blinked slowly.

"We're having a tea party with dragon berry tea, it's uncle Malcolm's favourite tea, but he said he likes..."she looked back at her uncle with a confused expression, "Conona? Better."

Sam raised a brow, "Corona?" He cleared his throat and looked at Malcolm who was dying of laughter as he pretended to drink his tea. "Well Mira that's only adult tea okay?"

Mira nodded, "Okay daddy. Do you want some dragon berry tea, it's fresh!" She looked over at Malcolm, "Uncle Malcolm drank soooo much! I think he burned his tongue." Her uncle pretended to fan his tongue from the hot imaginary tea which made the little girl giggle. "You're so silly!" Malcolm smiled at her and then mimed that he was opening something. "What's that?!" she asked in wonder.

Malcolm pretended to put a tray down on the ground and then lay down on the carpet to rest on his side. "What do you mean what's that? These are chocolate chunky gooey marshamallowy soft cookies. The best of the best." He smiled at her as her eyes widened. It was as if he could see her imagination run crazy with the image of the cookies.

She nodded and stared at where the cookies were supposed to be, "Oh! I see it now! They're ginormous! Almost as big as your head uncle!" Mercedes couldn't help but snort at the comment and ignored the side eye Malcolm gave her. She pretended to pick one up and take a bite, "Spwinkles, I love spwinkles." She said as she mimed that her mouth was full.

Malcolm smiled at the little girl, "Ah sorry, yea I forgot there were sprinkles." He mimed that he was eating one as well, and he took a sip of his pretend tea to wash it down. Sam and Mercedes looked at each other and then smiled before leaving to make a snack in the kitchen for everyone. Watching all the fake eating was enough to make anyone hungry. They cut up carrots, celery, and put some dip in a bowl. When everyone was finished eating, Sam began cleaning up and Mercedes took Miracle to bed. Malcolm sat quietly at the kitchen table watching the blonde. Sam could feel the stares on his back and finally turned around to look at the man behind him.

"So." Malcolm began before he extended a foot and pushed out the chair that was across from him. Sam eyed it for a moment prior to washing off his hands and settling down in the chair across from his girlfriend's brother. "What do you do exactly?"

Sam raised a brow, "Occupationally?" Malcolm nodded his head, "I'm a teacher...I work at Miracle's school actually." He shrugged, "I figured that I'd keep her there for a bit and then let her go somewhere else when she gets older, I don't want her to be embarrassed that her dad could be her friend's teacher or something."

"Uh huh...you make a lot of money teaching?" Malcolm cocked his head to the side.

Sam shrugged, "I make enough to take care of myself and Miracle if that's what you're asking."

"What about Mercedes?"

"What do you mean?"

Malcolm rolled his eyes, "Look man, my big sister is all into you and you're raising my niece. I need to know that you're good for them."

The blonde frowned, "I love my daughter a lot and I would do anything for her and Mercedes. Financially, Mercedes doesn't need me and if she did, I'd help her as best as I could."

Malcolm stared at Sam for a long moment, "You love my sister?"

Sam's face grew hot and he averted his eyes, "Um..." He lowered his voice so that Mercedes couldn't hear him from Mira's bedroom, "...yea I do. She means a lot to me and Miracle. She's a part of this family." He grinned sheepishly. "Things have happened really fast between us and we've gone through some messed up things together, but at the end of the day...I do love her, a lot."

Mercedes' brother's face registered no emotion, "Does she know that?"

Sam shook his head, "No, not yet."

Malcolm raised a brow, "Why not? What you waiting for?"

The blonde let out a sarcastic laugh, "I don't know, was I supposed to tell her after my daughter got sick, or when she found out that my kid was her niece, or hmm maybe when your mom threatened to take my daughter away from me?" He frowned, "There really hasn't been a good time."

"Yea, I got you." Malcolm looked back towards the door where his sister and niece were, "Are you going to tell Miracle about her family?"

"When she's ready to find out yea, but she's a baby...she doesn't need her world turned upside down right now. I think it'd be a lot for her to handle. Plus...as Mercedes said, she wants to warm up to the idea of you and your parents as family...once that happens, it might soften the blow of it all." Sam shrugged, "Or maybe not, but right now, all I want to do is protect my daughter and this is the only way I can think of doing that."

Malcolm sighed and dragged his nail across the table, "I want her to know who we are. I want her to know who Jane was." He glanced at Sam, "She needs to know her mom wanted the best for her or something."

Sam nodded, "You're right." He took a deep breath, "And I'll ask you or Mercedes to fill in the blanks as she gets older, but right now I just have to figure out how to protect her and keep her here with me." His eyes bore into Malcolm's, "If your mom takes this court, it's going to get ugly and it's going to destroy lives Malcolm...it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I want Mira to embrace her mother's family and I am more than willing to accept that. If your parents wanted her to stay with them for the summers, or for her to see them every weekend then I would do my damn best to ensure that would happen."

Malcolm bit his lip and thought about it for a few minutes, "Alright."

Sam narrowed his eyes, "But if your mom tries to take her, then I'm going to perceive her as a threat and I will do anything to keep my daughter safe. Do you understand me?" His voice slightly shook, "My daughter's my life..." His eyes began to well up and he looked away. "I don't know what decision you'll make...who knows maybe this conversation has made you even surer that taking her away from me is what's best..."

"My sister says that you're a good guy, that you're a good dad...but don't you think you're being selfish? I feel like you just calling all the shots, I mean what if Miracle wants to be with her family?"

"I want what's best for my kid and taking her away from a stable home life, uprooting her from everything she knows so that she can live with strangers is what's selfish. Even if we don't share the same blood doesn't mean I'm not her family. And just because you do, doesn't mean that you're hers."

The two men looked at each other for a long time until Malcolm put his head in his hands and sat that way for awhile. Sam looked around, feeling slightly uncomfortable. Mercedes walked out of Miracle's room and approached them with a concerned look on her face. "What's...what's going on?" She placed her hand on her brother's shoulder and glanced nervously at Sam.

Her brother looked up and cleared his throat. He stared at Sam, but spoke to his sister, "I'm going to talk to mom...and I'm going to ask her to shut this court shit down."

Margaret Jones sat in her living room drinking a glass of wine as she stared blankly at the television screen. Her husband walked up behind her and leaned over the back of the armchair to kiss her tenderly on the cheek. She sighed at his touch and turned her head so that he could properly kiss her. "Hi." She smiled against his mouth.

"Hello there. Will you be joining me in bed?" His voice deep as he placed gentle kisses over her face. She grinned and then leaned back to look at him.

"Of course, I'm just waiting on a call and then I'll be right up." Her husband groaned. She rolled her eyes and cupped his face before kissing him again. "Go warm up the bed for us and don't fall asleep."

"Maggie come on, you're telling me that this can't wait until the morning?"

"That's exactly what I'm telling you and I love you so much for being so understanding." She smiled up at him.

He rolled his eyes, "Mhm, this is what you call neglect! If you're not up there in ten minutes, then I'm starting this party without you." He muttered as he retreated to the stairs.

"Terry if you start the Diff'rent Strokes marathon without me I'm not going to be happy!" She yelled up at him.

"Ten minutes!" He yelled back, "Now you've got nine." She stared at her phone for a moment willing it to ring, but when it didn't she got up from her seat and closed the bottle of wine. She was about to head to the kitchen when she heard the vibrations of the cell against the table. The words Private caller flashed across her screen.

"Good evening." She cleared her throat and sat on the arm of the couch. "Thank you for calling me at such short notice."

"Of course, anything for you Mags. Now what can I help you with?"

Maggie sighed, "Well, I've been trying to make headway on this case with my granddaughter, but I'm being blocked at every single turn by her guardian's lawyer...it's a mess to be honest. But between my job and this I don't have time to do any...'research'."

"Uhuh, they're trying to give you the old run around eh? Well don't worry. I've got you covered. I will do whatever I can to make sure that you're ten steps ahead of these rookies."

Margaret closed her eyes and smiled, "You're amazing, I owe you one."

The voice on the other end laughed, "Of course you do, but we'll talk more about that later. I might need you to do some work for me."

Mercedes' mother nodded although the caller couldn't see her. "You got it. Alright, I have to go. I'll send you the details tomorrow morning so that you can start bright and early."

"Alright Mags, I'll keep you in the loop." With that the caller hung up. Maggie stared at the phone and smiled widely. The theme song for Diff'rent Strokes sounded from their room upstairs.

"Dammit Terry!" She growled as she turned off all the lights and ran up the stairs to join her husband in the bedroom.

Sam held Mercedes' hand as they strolled down a busy street not far from his sister's house. She was drinking white hot chocolate and he drank a regular one with chocolate chips. When she had placed the order, he had wiggled his eyebrows at her, which resulted in a playful smack to the arm. She was bundled up in a heavy red coat with earmuffs and gloves. He donned a long black jacket and had a grey hat pulled down on his head to cover his ears from the cold weather. There wasn't snow, but it was still a pretty cold night. "I'm so happy that we were able to do this." She laughed as she sipped her hot drink, "I feel like we haven't had a night to ourselves in weeks."

Sam nodded and glanced at her. "That's because we haven't." He laughed as they walked. "I've been too nervous to leave Mira and you've been working double time at the hospital." He squeezed her hand, "I feel like you've grown at least an inch since I last saw you."

Mercedes narrowed her eyes at him, "You're walking on some thin ice here Evans," She attempted to look annoyed with him, but couldn't help but laugh when he pressed his cold lips against hers. She couldn't tell if the sweetness was from her hot chocolate or his.

"Well I know that you'd save me if I fell through, so that's a comforting thought." He kissed her again, cupping her face with his free hand as he did so. She leaned into him and explored the mouth that she had missed over the drama of the past few weeks. After Malcolm had told them that he was going to speak to their mother soon and tell her to call everything off, it had seemed like a small weight had been lifted. With less support to take Miracle away, the better it would be for everyone. "god, I've missed this." He muttered against her mouth before kissing her again.

She kissed him back just as hungrily, but stopped to pull back. She couldn't help but smile at his reddened cheeks and lips. "I've missed kissing you too, but not enough to go to jail for public indecency."Mercedes laughed and placed one more kiss to his lips. She looked around and spotted a woman speaking on her phone not too far from where they stood. There were others milling around, but Mercedes had seen that same woman at the cafe that they had bought their drinks from.

"I remember when you used to be fun." Sam laughed before placing cold kisses against her eyelids, her forehead, and cheeks.

"Whatever, I'm still fun." She sighed at the attention and couldn't help but feel mesmerized by his touch. "Sam...what are you doing to me?" He pulled her closer and rubbed his hand down her back.

"I'm just trying to warm you up..." His voice got deeper and lower as he continued to kiss her face. He sighed and kissed her neck, "I love you." He mumbled against her skin.

Mercedes' eyes flew open and she moved her head to look at him. Sam looked at her in confusion. "What?"

Sam laughed, "What what?"

Mercedes bit her lip, "What'd you just say?" Sam's face grew red and he looked around. "Sam?"

He cleared his throat and nervously looked at her, "I love you. I know we've only been together a few months, but it's felt like I've known you much longer." Mercedes smiled up at him and went on her tip toes to kiss him deeply, knocking Sam's hot chocolate out of his hands in the process.

"Oh I'm sorry." She laughed, "I love you too Sam...I love you and Miracle." Sam beamed and hugged her close. "And Scoots." He laughed against her neck and the puffs of hot air against her cold skin felt nice.

"Good, because we want to keep you." He smiled before kissing her once again. They were too lost in their own happiness to notice that the woman who had been on the phone had walked up to them.

"Good god, can't you two just get a room? It's hard to be all inconspicuous when you're making out like horny teenagers right in the damn open. Just because most children are asleep at this time, doesn't mean everyone else wants to view this pornographic display." The couple stared over at the tall blonde woman glaring at them.

Sam cleared his throat and glared back at her. He moved Mercedes so that she was behind him, "Last time I checked, this was a free country."

The woman had a smug look, "Apparently it is Sam Evans. The United States of America, a place where you can kidnap innocent babies and pass them off as your own. You'd know a lot about that now wouldn't you?" Sam's eyes widened.

"Who the fuck are you?" He looked around as if looking for answers.

"Oh how rude of me, I guess I forgot to mention my name in my attempts not to heave at your disgusting PDA. I'm Sue Sylvester." She smiled, "And you my friend are Sam Evans and you're little lady back there is Mercedes Jones." She laughed, "Your mother and I go way back."

"What are you doing here? What do you want?" Mercedes stepped out from behind Sam and stood beside him.

"I'm here to find out some information about your little boy toy here with the gigantic lips."

"Screw you!" Sam fumed, "I'm not telling you anything about me."

The woman named Sue smiled, "Eh either you tell me or I'll just find out, it doesn't make a difference to me." She clucked her tongue, "I do find it odd that you've left the kidnapped child so soon after her recovery, doesn't sound like top notch parenting if you ask me." She cocked her head to the side, "Especially with Quinn Evans who already seems to have enough on her plate."

"Get the hell out of here and you tell my mom that she better back off or else!" Mercedes held on to Sam's arm, she could feel him tensing up under her touch.

"From what your mother told me, you had a DNA test done somehow, but it wasn't documented at the hospital you work at...so I wonder if it was even legally done...and if it wasn't legal then..." Sue shrugged, "Someone's likely to get fired, especially if someone makes a stink about it." She smirked and looked at Sam. "Anyhow, the night is still young and I still have a mister..."she pulled out a notepad and looked at it. "...Noah Puckerman to speak to, I know that you two have been friends for quite some time and he has quite an interesting record with the police department." She tutted, "Not a very appropriate environment for children...well in my opinion at least, no telling what the judge will say." Sam clenched his fists. Sue looked at him and smiled, "Quick to get angry too? All very interesting. Well have a great night lovebirds." She laughed and walked past them.

Sam's chest heaved up and down as he stared after the blonde. Mercedes shook her head in disbelief, "What an absolute monster." She breathed out and touched Sam's shoulder. He shrugged her off and walked off in the opposite direction. "Sam where are you going?" She chased after him and grabbed his arm. Again he shook her off.

"Please...don't touch me right now." He stared at the ground and refused to meet her eyes. "I just want to get my daughter and go home."

Mercedes bit her lip, "Sam I get that your mad, but we're going to figure this out, once Malcolm talks to my mom then s-"

"Mercedes, I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear anything about your family right now. In fact, I don't even want to talk." He rubbed his face and continued walking quickly towards where she had parked her car.

She fought back the tears in her eyes and followed, "You're not being fair right now." She muttered as her tears fell down her cheeks once she had reached the car. Sam stopped in his tracks and turned to look at her.

"Are you serious?! Are you for real? That woman is going to comb through not only my life but the lives of my friends, she's going to harass us. I'm probably going to have to get a restraining order against her for myself and Miracle all thanks to your psychotic mother!" He shook his head, "And I'm not being fair?!"

Mercedes glared at him, "Oh you're right, because this has been so easy for me. I'm sorry that I've been so whiny and unsupportive. I'm a horrible girlfriend for cutting my family off in support of you, I'm such a cow for agreeing not to tell Miracle anything about me or the truth about her mom even though it tears me up inside, no one asked me how I've been dealing with this! No one asked me if it was easy for me to see my brother feel like he was losing a part of his family all over again. So screw you! You're not the only heart that's hurting Sam! It's not all about you. I love her too!" They stared at each other for what seemed like ages before she unlocked the car doors and slid into the driver's seat.

Sam stared straight ahead and ground his teeth. He closed his eyes and took deep breaths. Mercedes was doing the same technique to calm down before she started to drive. "Mercedes..." She turned her face to look at him. He glanced at her and then shook his head. "Never mind."

"Great, I'm not in the mood to talk to you anyways."

Sam scoffed, "Awesome."

Mercedes rolled her eyes, "Stop talking to me." She put the car in drive and headed off to get Miracle from Quinn's house. She kept swallowing as she drove and sang church songs in her head to distract her from the memory of them being so happy less than an hour ago. When she got to Quinn's, Sam hopped out of his seat, bundled Miracle up and brought her to the car. She was fast asleep.

Fortunately, it wasn't an exceptionally long drive back to his apartment from there, which she preferred. He picked up his daughter from the back seat and slung her over his shoulder.

"Thank you." He muttered before closing the door. Mercedes locked the doors and drove off to her apartment without so much as an acknowledgement or a word to the blonde man who stood outside in the cold watching after her.

He sighed as he watched her drive away, "Shit."

Malcolm stepped into the garage the next morning with a lot on his mind. Mercedes had called him late the night before to tell him everything that had happened between Sam and the woman named Sue. She had tried calling their mother, but kept getting sent to voicemail which made her all the more agitated. Malcolm promised to speak to their mother after work to hopefully get her to back off. Their mother could be ruthless, but she had already lost one child, had stopped talking to her second child, and would probably have a fit if her last born threatened to stop talking to her too. He sighed as he swiped his card into the system. "Yo Mal, you okay man? Look a bit out of it." Malcolm turned towards his boss and grinned.

"Nah, I'm alright. Just family drama as always." He forced a laugh and shook his head, "I swear, I'm going to book a flight to Cuba or something and just disappear for a bit."

His boss typed something into his computer and then glanced at Malcolm, "Alright, well make sure you book off and don't up and disappear like Brian did last month."

Malcolm raised a brow as he clicked through the system of the cars they had to repair for that day, "Who's Brian?"

His boss laughed and gave him a look, "Exactly! Now make sure you book off or some other mechanic will be coming up in here asking, 'Who's Malcolm?" He clapped Malcolm on the shoulder and headed off to check on the cars that needed extra attention. Malcolm laughed and shook his head. He had been there for two years and couldn't have asked for a better place to work. He printed off some paperwork for a particularly tricky car and headed out to find it.

It was off in the corner and someone had already set it up on steel blocks so that it was elevated. Otherwise Malcolm wouldn't have been able to slide in under it. "Hey Mal! You should have seen this sexy chick who came in to drop her car off yesterday man, she was looking for you." His co-worker Carlos yelled out to him from the other side of the shop. He wiggled his eyebrows, "She had some very nice airbags my friend." Malcolm rolled his eyes and laughed as Carlos worked on a Honda that had been raised high above his head so he could check it out.

"Next time give her my cellphone number then." Malcolm grabbed his tools and his trolley to slide under the car.

Carlos shook his head, "Company policy says no." He grinned.

"Uh huh you and I both know you gave her your crusty number." Malcolm laughed before he slid in beneath the car. He had his flashlight with him and read over the report again before tinkering around below. He had been under there for half an hour when a cold feeling covered him. Malcolm began to hear a creaking sound from under the car and then there was a loud cracking snapping noise. His first thought was to move out from under the vehicle, but before he could even slide out, he felt the car's weight drop down against his body. His head hit the ground as the cold metal pressed into him. Everything was completely silent as he lay there pinned beneath the car. He tried to breathe but could not take in air nor release it. He felt a cool hand touch his face. He tried to focus on who it was and saw the familiar smile and dimples. "Jane?" He sighed out as she looked at him, "help me..."he whispered as his eyes fluttered shut as everything around him faded to a quiet, cold, black.
