Oh, Kitty's not related to Ember. Sorry for the confusion, BS Lewis
Previously...
Danny and Amber walk down the street together with Danny looking anywhere but Amber as if he did, he would only get blood on his nose...again. They didn't take the bus since it was still early and because Amber didn't want anybody to think that she and him lived in the same street or in the same house in fear of getting into more trouble with you know who.
And as they turn around a corner, a little 5-year-old girl with soft and shiny curly blonde hair spots her favorite big sister, though they weren't actually related. "Ember!"
Amber turns around toward the voice. A grin lights up her face. "Oh hey, Kitty!"
Chapter 14: Thanks for the Fun
~Amity Park - Tuesday 6:16 am - 1972~
Danny looks at the little girl as she runs and embraces the older blonde. Her face was so familiar. And when what Amber had said register in his mind, his baby blue eyes widen. "Wait, did you just say Kitty?" Then his eyes widen even more as he looks at the said little girl. "Wait, did you just call her Ember?!" Danny was almost having his mind blown again.
Amber looks at the dipstick with a raised eyebrow. "What's wrong with Ember? Out of all the nicknames people had given me, I like it the most."
Danny just looks at her as the information sinks in.
She shrugs. "Besides, Kitty can't say my name right. She always confuses Amber with Ember. Right, Kitty."
"Ember. Ember." Kitty giggles.
Danny just nods. "Oh, okay."
Kitty tilts her head sideways as she stares at the boy with her hazel eyes. She then shifts them between the boy and her big sister. She tugs Amber's skirt, pointing at Danny. "Ember, is that your boyfriend?"
Amber frowns. "No, he is not my boyfriend."
Danny blushes as he remembers what Amber's Mom had said to him last night about allowing him to court her daughter. "I'm not courting her. Amber and I are just friends."
Kitty looks at him, then at Amber, and then back at him again. "Aw, but you look so perfect together."
Amber was about to deny that statement, but stops as an old man comes along their way.
"Grandpa!" Kitty runs to him, jumping up and down, as she giggles. "Grandpa! Ember has a boyfriend!"
Amber facepalms.
Kitty's grandfather just chuckles. He then looks at Amber. "Good morning, Amberline Rose. How are you today?"
She smiles weakly. "Good morning to you too, Gramps. I'm fine. Mom is too."
"That's good to hear." He looks at Danny. "Hello there, young man. I've never seen you before in town. What's your name?"
"Uh, I'm Danny, sir."
He smiles. "Danny. You seem to be a really nice young man. I hope you treat her well."
Danny looks at Amber, and Amber sighs in defeat.
Kitty giggles.
Amber just rolls her eyes. "Kitty, don't you have your stupid academics to go to."
She sticks her tongue out.
"Katherine White Fisher," her grandfather says in a warning tone.
She cringes at the full use of her name. "Umm, sorry, Ember. But it is too early. Besides, I'm waiting for—" She then gasps. "Oh, there he is!"
Across the street riding a skateboard was none other than Jake. The same Jake that was put to detention with Danny and Amber yesterday. But he wasn't the one Kitty was looking at. It was actually the six-year-old boy riding in a bicycle behind him.
She sighs, locking her fingers together. "Johnny's so cool. I wish someday I could ride with him behind his bicycle."
Amber looks at the younger blonde. 'For a five-year-old girl, she's already a hopeless romantic. And I don't even wanna know what she'll turn out to be like ten years from now.'
Jake arrives first with Johnny following behind. He holds out a fist, and Johnny grins as he fist bumps it. "Almost passed you, big brother."
Jake pats the helmet on Johnny's head. "In your dreams, little bro."
Johnny grins and takes off his helmet, revealing short light brown hair. He then wipes the sweat from his brow, which makes Kitty sigh dreamily. Johnny looks at her and blushes slightly. "Uh, h-hi there, Katherine."
"H-Hey, Jonathan." She blushes as well, twiddling with her thumbs.
Her grandpa chuckles at the scene, while Amber and Jake had large grins on their faces. But as this was happening, Danny stood at the background, watching the events unfold. Not only did he meet Kitty's human self, but also Johnny 13's. It was weird seeing them acting so...normal. They were human. They were alive. And they were just kids! A small smile lights his face. 'It's so obvious that the two really like each other. I just wish that Johnny doesn't go around chasing other girls in the future.'
"What do you think, dipstick?"
'Maybe I could...'
"Dipstick?"
'No, it would just change time more. I gotta be careful or else—'
Danny was shaken out of his thoughts as he feels someone shaking his shoulder.
"Dipstick. Hey, are you even listening?"
"Wh-What?" He shakes his head.
Amber looks at him worriedly. "Hey, are you okay?" She puts a hand on his forehead.
Danny unconsciously puts his hand atop hers. He smiles. "Yeah, I'm fine, Amber."
She smirks. "That's good to know."
A moment seems to pass by the two. A moment that was unintentionally ruined by a certain 5-year-old blonde little girl squealing. Danny and Amber jolt from their gaze as they stare incredulously at Kitty, the two of them putting their hands down.
Grandpa Fisher pats his granddaughter's head, trying to calm down the cute little blonde bundle of hopeless romantic joy. "Come now, Katherine White. Let's get you and young Jonathan Peter to school."
"Aw, but it's still too errwy." Kitty complains.
"It's okay, Kitten." Johnny smiles, taking her hand, which makes Kitty red. "We'll get ice cream on the way." He then looks at her grandpa. "Is that okay, Mr. Fisher?"
He nods, smiling. "We'll all get ice cream." He then turns to the three teens. "Well, I'll be taking these two. You youngsters better get to school."
"We will," Amber says.
"See you later, Ember!" Kitty waves her hand.
As the two kids and grandpa were out of hearing range, Jake lets out a whistle as the trio walk towards Casper High. "Wow, only six-years-old and my little brother already gots himself a girlfriend." He turns toward Amber, wiggling his brows. "So, how about it, Lambs. Wanna hook up with the Jakester?"
She punches his arm. "In your dreams, dipstick."
He scowls at her, clutching his arm. "Ow. Tomboy."
She glares at him.
Jake holds up his hands. "Kidding. Kidding. Sheesh. If I didn't know any better, I'd be punched to heavens by now, Amy."
Amber huffs, walking on ahead.
"Hey, was it something I said?" He looks at Danny who only replies with a shrug, and then catches up with Amber. Jake soon follows, carrying his board. "That was awesome yesterday when you stood up to the Queen Bee and her gang. Everybody's talking about you, Amy."
Amber sighs, "Yeah, I noticed. And my name's not Amy. It's Amber."
"Oh, yeah. I knew that hehe." He rubs the back of his head.
She rolls her eyes, and then walks on ahead. Danny and Jake soon follow.
"So Jake was it." Danny starts. "You're Johnny's older brother."
He nods. "Uh huh, he's my only brother. I also have three younger sisters."
"Wow, you have a large family."
"Yeah, but they're really a handful. You know, sisters." He then grins. "So do you have any siblings?"
Danny smiles. "I do. But only one. I have an older sister."
Jake's eyes light up. He puts his hand on his chin. "Oh, where's your sister now?" He then adds. "Is she cute? Is she foxy?"
Danny just looks at him, not really knowing how or what to say to that. "Uh..."
In front of them, Amber groans. "Ugh, I hope Johnny doesn't end up a flirt like you."
"Hey!" Jake pouts. He then walks in front of her, stopping her advance. "I'm a young healthy cool looking available male. If I had a girlfriend, then I wouldn't be searching high and low for the perfect woman." He looks at her as he said all that.
Amber just looks at him, and then walks on ahead.
"Hey, I'm talking to you."
"And I'm not interested." She shoots back.
Jake pauses for a bit, thinking of a comeback. "Well I...well...if I were to ask you out, would you be interested?" As those words left his mouth, Danny and Amber's eyes widen. Even Jake was surprised as he puts his hand on his mouth, red in the face. "I'm sorry. I didn't...I..." He then facepalms, running on ahead on his skateboard.
Danny and Amber watches Jake's silhouette until it was out of sight.
"Well that was...surprising." Danny comments.
"Y-Yeah." Amber blushes, looking to the side.
Danny notices it, and he feels a weird feeling in the pit of his stomach at seeing her blush like that.
He didn't like it.
"Amber."
"Hmm."
"D-Do you like...like Jake?"
Amber blushes even more. "N-No. Wh-Why would I like the dipstick?" She looks at him. "Besides, he's not really my type."
Danny would usually drop the subject, and not pry any further, but the uneasy feeling in his stomach returns again. "Are you sure? You seem to blush whenever I mention Jake."
She blushes again, further alarming Danny. 'Wait, why do I feel this way? I shouldn't care who Amber likes, right? She can date anyone she li—'
Danny's train of thought was suddenly cut off when Amber punches him in the gut. "Stop embarrassing me, dipstick! I'm blushing because I'm not used with all this attention."
Danny clutches his stomach, the uneasy feeling way gone.
~Casper High - Tuesday 6:59 am - 1972~
Mr. Lancer walks inside the classroom. He looks over at his students and notices that Ms. McLain and Mr. Phantom were talking with each other. He smiles. 'Looks like young Amberline finally took one of my words to heart. Plus, she's not late today.' His face then turns back to its depressing state. 'I just wish she would do the same with her academics.'
The school bell starts.
"Alright, everyone. Let's start with the attendance," the teacher says.
As Mr. Lancer calls off the names, Danny takes a glance around the room, looking if there were more wormholes popping around anytime. So far, he absorbed one.
"Mr. Adams."
"Here, Mr. L," the buff guy in a black jacket says.
"Ms. Fitch."
"Present," Ashley says.
"Mr. Hales."
"Yo," Jake says.
"Ms. Hooper."
"Right here," Melissa says.
"Ms. Jones."
...no answer.
"Ms. Jones?" Mr. Lancer looks at the seat behind Danny. It was empty.
"Mr. Lancer, Veronica's not feeling good," Melissa says. She takes a glance at Ashley, glaring at her.
Ashley sees it. "But I told you already! I didn't do anything! I don't even remember what happened yesterday!"
"Yeah, you're really living up to your hair color." She sneers.
The students laugh.
Mr. Lancer tries to calm things down, while Danny and Amber look to see Ashley pouting and her eyes turning watery.
"Damn, I didn't know bee number three would fall from grace. You know, I kinda pity her."
Danny nods his head, looking back at the blonde castaway. He feels guilty for overshadowing the girl.
~Casper High - Tuesday 11:13 am - 1972~
It was lunch time again at the cafeteria, and Danny and Amber were sitting together and eating their lunch, minding their own business, although Amber's brow was constantly twitching.
"You see. They are together."
"What? Who are you talking about?"
"That new guy and uh...what's her name again?"
"I think her name is Amy, or maybe Amberly."
"Do you think she has something to do with the Queen Bee absent today?"
"Maybe. You know, I heard that she..."
Amber tunes off their conversation. She heaves a sigh.
"Don't listen to them?" Danny says.
She nods lightly. "I know. I just can't believe people are gossiping about me. It's a new feeling, you know."
"Yeah." He smiles, remembering his own days when he was made public enemy number one. Walker made sure that Danny Phantom was a menace of Amity Park.
As the two continue eating, Danny notices Ashley sitting all alone with her food not even touched. He feels guilty all over again. 'Should I talk to her? It's kinda my fault that she's at the bottom of the food chain. Then again, she was one of Veronica's drones. But she's not anymore, right?'
...
Ultimately, the hero in him wins.
Danny stands up.
Amber looks at him. "Where are you going, dipstick?"
He looks at her, and then at where Ashley was.
Amber raises an eyebrow. "What? You're going pick up the lost puppy?"
Danny nods.
"But that's crazy." Amber looks around to see the two of the students nearby whispering to the other as they look at them. She rolls her eyes, turning to them and crossing her arms with a pissed off expression. "Don't you guys have something else to do?"
They look surprised at being caught, and then turn away sheepishly.
Amber huffs, before looking back to see Danny walking to Ashley. She scowls, and then follows after him.
Ashley sighs again for the umpthteenth time. Why? Because her so called BFFs just suddenly snubbed her and kicked her off the group. And she couldn't for the life of her understand why! She sighs again, completing the cycle and starting anew with the question why. But suddenly, a shadow casts over her. She looks up, and there he was. The man that captivated her heart.
At first, she didn't believe in the saying 'First love, First sight'. But when she saw him the first time only just yesterday, she was struck by cupid's arrow that she fell from heaven to be with this beautiful mortal man.
'Oh how poetic,' she inwardly sighs. The only reason she pretended that she wasn't interested in him is because of her best friend, Veronica. Although, she knew she only liked him because of his looks, not because of love. Another boy toy to her collection.
Ashley Fitch wasn't stupid. Just because her natural hair color is blonde doesn't mean that she's automatically dumb. Idiotic stereotyping. But now that she thinks about it, she wonders why of all people, her crush stands in front of her right when she's down at her lowest.
"Hey, can I sit down?" He smiles at her.
His voice was like a god to her. And his smile...there was nothing near to describe it.
Ashley weakly nods, but squealing in delight inside. 'OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH! OH MY GOSH!' But that magic euphoria was soon lived as she sees Amberline Rose McLain approaching. Judging from her stance, the strawberry blonde a bit uneasy. 'Completely understandable really from the way I treated her when I was with Ver. Even though I was pretending, it still wasn't nice.'
"Hey there uh, Ashley." Amber rubs her arm.
"Hey, Amberline." She then looks at her crush, blushing a bit. "Hey, Danny."
Danny didn't notice it as he was busy wracking his brain on what to say. Amber sits down beside Danny and thought she saw Ashley's eyes flare up a second. Sweat drips from her brow.
Danny just notices the tension between the two girls. He coughs, getting both girl's attention and the tension to stop. He looks at the blonde. "Ashley, umm...I just wanted to say that I'm sorry for what happened. I mean, what I saw earlier..."
While Danny was explaining things and saying stuff, Ashley stares on, skipping in lala land. A goofy smile pastes her face. But Amber snaps her fingers, making the blonde jolt out of her dreaming state. "Huh? What? What happened?" She looks at the two to see Amber trying to hold a laugh, while Danny looks down, blushing.
"You were dreaming. And you were mumbling stuff." Amber snickers.
"Stuff?"
The strawberry blonde tries to contain her laugher. "Stuff about love, happiness, and you and the dipstick together forever. Oh, and you wanting him in your—"
"Amber!" Danny covers her mouth, his face redder than ever.
Ashley seems to follow as her face matches Danny's, as well as paling at the same time if that's even possible. "W-Wait a minute. Did I just...d-did I just confess my f-feelings?"
Amber nods an affirmative with Danny's hand still covering her mouth.
Danny didn't know if it was possible to pale even more. But after seeing it face to face, he couldn't deny how the blonde turned whiter than a ghost.
She faints, followed by a loud thud.
~Casper High - Tuesday 11:31 pm - 1972~
After Danny and Amber had dragged the unconscious Ashley and had given her to the nurse, the two sat down on a bench nearby the clinic. Amber leans back on the wall, closing her eyes. Danny does the same.
The two teens stayed like that in comfortable silence. It was only broken by stifled giggling coming from Amber.
Danny looks at her, smiling. "Why are you laughing? What's so funny?"
Amber tries to stop, though failing miserably as she continues her giggling fits.
While this was happening, Danny couldn't help but be entranced. 'I think this is the first time I've seen her laugh like this. It's so...cute. Amber giggling. That's something hard to imagine on Ember, though I guess it's not that hard as both have the same face and are really the same person depending in time. And did I mention that she's cute...wait, what?'
Amber's laugh gradually stops, and she looks at Danny in the eyes, still with a smile on her face.
The halfa's eyes land on her eyes too. 'Wow, are her eyes really that emerald green.' He smiles.
The two continues their stare. It was Amber who broke it first with a question.
"What are you thinking, dipstick?"
Danny blinks his eyes. "Huh?"
"What are you thinking?"
"Uh." He scratches the side of his head.
Amber giggles at his confused expression, putting a hand by her lips. "You're such a dipstick, you know that."
Danny looks at her, and then smiles. 'Oh, now I get it. I think the reason why she asked me that question is because she wants me to ask her that question.' He returns her question. "What were you thinking about, Amber?"
The strawberry blonde grins. She looks ahead at nothing in particular. "Me? Well, I was just thinking how funny it was how the two of us found out about Jake's crush on me and Ashley's crush on you all in the same day."
Danny grins. "About their accidental confession."
"Yeah ahahaha." She wipes a tear in her eye.
Danny laughs too.
The two teens continue their laugh. But their happy moment was soiled when the buff guy in a black jacket stands in front of them with his boys. "Aw, look at that, guys. The geek and the newbie are lovebirds."
His boys laugh.
Amber glares at him. She crosses her arms. "What do you want, Andrew?"
"Nothing much, just a beating in waiting, courtesy of Veronica." He punches a fist in his open palm.
Danny and Amber stand up from their seat as Andrew and the A-Listers close in.
Warning bells ring inside Amber's head, and she was about to run away when suddenly, she feels a cool hand on hers. She looks down to see Danny's hand holding her. Shifting her gaze, she sees him smiling at her, reassuring her that it's going to be okay. She nods.
Danny nods as well, and then looks at the A-Lister boys. "We don't want any trouble. So please, just leave us alone."
"Not gonna happen, dipstick." Andrew sneers. He then nods at his companions, and they charge.
Amber closes her eyes, ready for the beating to come, but Danny wasn't gonna let that happen. He smirks as they close in. He reaches deep down inside him, accessing his ghost powers.
The boys crash on the bench with Danny phasing through, pulling Amber with him.
Andrew's eyes widen, and then they turn angry. "The chumps are right there! Get them!"
Amber runs for her life, eyes still closed, just trusting her friend wherever he takes her. She could hear shouts being thrown by Andrew and his buddies. Just then, they stop, and Danny gradually comes from running to walking, and then stopping all together.
Slowly, Amber opens her eyes. She looks around. "Are they gone?"
"I think so—"
"There they are!" One of the boys points down the corridor.
Amber jolts. "Oh, sh—"
"C'mon!" Danny pulls her.
The two run down the hallway, passing by a nerdy-looking redheaded hallway monitor. "Hey, no running in the hall—"
"Out of my way!" Andrew pushes the boy down, followed by his boys. "Go around the other side! Circle around!"
Danny and Amber turns around a corner only to find one of the A-Listers waiting for them. They run down the opposite, but it was blocked too.
Amber looks around for a place to hide. She spots the female's locker room. "Dipstick!" She points.
Danny looks where she was pointing at, and he blushes. "B-But."
"There's no time! C'mon!" Amber pulls him inside, shutting the door and sitting down by the wall. The two hold their breath as the A-Listers pass them by. And when everything was quiet, they heave a sigh.
"That was close," Danny says.
"Yeah." Amber nods. She then grins. "But you know, it was kinda fun haha."
Danny just looks at her like she grew another head. "Really?"
She looks at him. "Well, yeah." She giggles. "This is the first time in a long time I've been chased around the school. It's kinda exciting, you know."
"Hmm, well I guess."
"My life has always been miserable or boring. But after yesterday's food fight and today's chase, I'm happy and bubbling all over. I kinda wish it's like this every day." She then blushes. "You don't think that's weird, do you?"
He shakes his head, smiling. "No. I don't think it's weird." He rubs the back of his neck. "To tell you the truth, I kinda enjoyed it too."
"Really?"
He nods.
Amber laughs, and Danny does too.
As their laughs dies down, Amber nudges him with her elbow. "Thanks."
"Thanks for what?"
"Thanks for the fun."
Danny smiles.
She then looks ahead, blushing a bit. "And thanks for being my friend...Danny."
