Chapter 14
Enjoy!
Legolas groaned, as the pain slowly registered. He heard muffled voices around him, but couldn't understand what they were saying.
"Legolas?" Aragorn said anxiously, "Mellon-nin can you hear me?"
The ranger sat down on the edge of the bed and was quickly followed by Elladan and Elrohir.
Legolas opened his blue eyes slightly, blinking sluggishly against the harsh light. He then fully opened his eyes and looked around. He was lying on a clean bed, his wounds were treated to and bandaged, and light was streaming in through a window somewhere in the room.
The elf turned his head as he felt someone sit down on his bed, and was greeted with the smiling faces of his friends.
"How are you feeling?" Elrohir asked.
"Fine," came the wood elf's quick reply.
"Of course, but how are you actually feeling?" Elladan persisted, not about to let Legolas get away with the false answer.
"Sore, but better," he said, smiling up at his friends.
Aragorn rolled his eyes, and smiled, "I am glad you are awake Mellon-nin."
"Me too," Legolas said and attempted to bring himself to a sitting position.
"No!" All three brothers yelled at once, and jumped up to pushed the wood elf back down.
"You most certainly cannot sit up, especially not with out our help," came a calm voice from the door way.
"Lord Elrond!" Legolas said sheepishly.
"How do you feel?" He asked, just like Aragorn had only moments before.
"My back hurts," Legolas finally concluded.
"Well you won't be getting out of bed for a while..." The Lord Of Rivendell continued, looking accusingly at the elf.
Legolas sighed, "can I at least sit up?" He asked, slightly embarrassed at having to ask permission to do such a simple thing.
Lord Elrond walked over and gently helped his patient into a sitting position, leaning him up against some pillows.
"I can do it myself," Legolas mumbled under his breath.
Elrond ignored the statement, and instead turned to his youngest son who was desperately trying to catch his attention.
Aragorn pulled his father away from the bed, and asked in a low whisper.
"How is the antidote coming?" Concern growing in his grey eyes.
"I have made progress but I still cannot take away the poison completely, I am worried about how long he will last if we don't get rid of the poison soon."
"He will be fine," Aragorn stated, a determined look creeping into his eyes.
Elrond sighed, glancing quickly over to the bed, where the wounded elf lay. A smile glazed Legolas's face and he was laughing and joking with the twins. Only someone who knew him very well would be able to see the pain and inner-struggles that this young elf was facing. As much as the Lord of Rivendell wanted to tell his adopted son that the prince of Mirkwood would be fine, he wouldn't instill false hope, even if it was about Aragorns best friend. So he simply said, "He is strong, and he will fight this as much as possible." Which was most certainly the truth.
Walking back over to the other side of the room, Elrond asked, "Legolas can you tell me the symptoms of this poison?"
"I have dizziness, when I try and stand up, and of course I have sometimes fallen back down."
As if in response to that statement elf's body went limp, and his hands fell from the side of the bed, to limply swinging in the air.
"It's getting worse," Legolas added, "it happen more frequently and for longer periods of time..."
Elrond sat on the edge of the bed recording the time that Legolas was still. He then nodded and left the room, not allow others to see his inner-frustration. If he didn't come up with an antidote soon then Legolas would never be able to walk properly again.
The cure for normal problems similar to this one was constantly exercising and practicing those muscles. But Legolas also has been poisoned, and he would have to extract the poison before the wood elf could begin to excercise his muscles. Lord Elrond would have to get a blood sample to begin to treat the poison.
The healer walked calm towards the healing room and made his way towards Legolas. He stood at the doorway then slowly stepped in.
"Legolas, I am just going to take a quick blood sample." He stated, and poked the needle into one of the poison wounds, noting the flash of pain etched across the princes face.
"I am sorry, I know this hurts but it has to be done." Elrond said, he hated hurting people, but it often had to be done to in the healing process.
"Good, hannon le," (thank you,) Elrond said taking the needle out. "Would you like something for the pain?" He asked thinking of how Legolas had winced.
"No I'll be fine," was the wood elf's usual reply. Elrond smiled and walked away, closing the door softly behind him. At least Legolas's had the same attitude, he always had to make the healing process as difficult for healers as possible.
The Lord Of Rivendell chuckled under his breath, and went into his study carrying the blood sample tightly in his hand. He would hate to drop it and then have to repeat the whole process over again, Elrond would cause his patients as little pain as possible.
Lord Elrond lay the blood sample down on the table and compared it to one of normal elf blood. After studying the two for quite some time, he recognized the difference. It was quite like another orc poison he had treated, but it served a different purpose.
He took down the ingredients needed for that antidote, and crushed them into a tea. Elrond would just have to hope that this antidote would serve the same purpose, and cleared the poison. That and lots of muscle exercise.
Lord Elrond rushed down the hall and into he healing rooms.
"Ada!" (Dad!) Aragorn cried and jumped up from the chair he was resting in, "is something wrong?" He asked nervously.
"No ion-nin, (my son,) sit back down. I think this antidote may work, but I cannot be sure until Legolas drinks it."
Stepping closer and seeing Legolas asleep, he left the tea nearby and slowly left the room.
"Let him sleep," Elrond whispered quietly, "he needs it." And with that he left the room, they would have to wait until morning to see if the antidote would work...
