Chapter fourteen: A fight for her honour

"Ok Ichigo I'm heading out!" Sakura called as she checked her handbag to make sure she had her purse and mobile.

"Ok mum see you later!" Ichigo called back from the living room. Her mother was heading out food shopping once again as Ichigo's increased appetite and food cravings were clearing out the cupboards. "Oh, don't forget the watermelon!" Ichigo shouted.

"I won't," Sakura called back before shutting the front door behind her. Ichigo leaned back against the sofa and flipped through her birthing book. She was almost eight months pregnant and there was the real chance that she could give birth early to a premature baby. Ichigo glanced at the clock on the wall. Kishu had promised to come over while her parents were out to discuss naming the baby. Ichigo put her book down and ran over some ideas in her head. Their baby would have to have a boy's name of course.

The doorbell ringing brought Ichigo out of her thoughts. Kishu knew to just walk in and it was still twenty minutes before he was due to arrive. Ichigo sighed as she stood up and waddled over to the front door. Her back was really starting to hurt as her son grew bigger and heavier. Ichigo opened the door to see none other than Masaya. "M-Masaya…" Ichigo stuttered in shock. She hadn't seen him since their argument two weeks ago.

"I see you've grown quite a bit since the last time I saw you." Masaya glanced down at her belly and Ichigo fought the urge to wrap her arms around her stomach. This was Masaya, he'd never hurt her.

"I thought you went back to America." Ichigo blurted out.

"I quit," Masaya shrugged. Ichigo stared at her ex-boyfriend in shock. Going to America was Masaya's big chance to become a doctor like he'd always wanted. She couldn't believe he'd give that up. Masaya still hadn't looked her in the eye as he was still staring at her stomach. Ichigo crossed her arm over her stomach and Masaya raised his gaze and smirked. Ichigo felt her heart pound. Masaya had never smirked before. "Do I frighten you Ichigo?"

"Masaya, what happened to you? You're not the Masaya I once knew anymore." Ichigo stepped back slightly. Masaya laughed making Ichigo tense.

"You're asking me what happened. I'll tell you what happened; my girlfriend, no, the love of my life was stolen from me by a filthy alien!" Masaya stepped in close making Ichigo tense further. "I'll free you Ichigo, I'll free you from the prison that alien has locked you up in. I'll set you free and then you'll see clearly!"

"Masaya I don't know –"

"You don't know what I'm talking about?" Masaya interrupted. "That's because Kishu has you under a spell! He'll make sure you're his loyal follower as he tears this world apart. Don't think I haven't noticed how friendly the other aliens are getting with the other mews, sneaking in under the radar and using the fact that their enemies are female to gain an advantage." Masaya spat, in clear contempt.

"You're wrong!" Ichigo yelled making Masaya take a step backwards in surprise. "They are not lying to us and they're not our enemies! They want peace between our worlds and we're helping them make that dream a reality. So what if they are falling in love with the mews? Doesn't that prove that humans and aliens can co-exist in this world?" Ichigo glared at the boy who used to occupy her every waking moment and who she thought she would love forever more. But right now she saw nothing of the kind hearted boy she had fallen in love with.

"This is the alien's trickery can't you see?" Masaya pleaded but Ichigo shook her head.

"No Masaya, I'm sorry you feel this way and I'm sorry that I'm at the centre of your anger. But you need to let this go. Go back to America, finish your studies, and find someone new who can love you the way you deserve. But there is no longer a 'we'." Ichigo held out her left hand and Masaya's eyes widened at the sight of the engagement ring.

"So he's entrapped you firmly in his web of lies, huh?" Masaya chuckled but the sound was without humour. He stepped back shaking his head. "I will withdraw for today but know this Ichigo: I will return, I will win your heart again and I will free you from that alien's curse." With that said Masaya turned and walked away.

Ichigo watched Masaya go until she could no longer see him. Turning, she shut the front door and walked slowly back to the living room. She sat down on the sofa and stared at the wall. The clock ticked but Ichigo didn't move as the silence filled the room like a poisons gas, heavy and thick. It wasn't until her baby kicked that Ichigo moved, placing a hand on her belly. He hates me. Ichigo broke down and cried.

:-:

The café mew mew was busy as always with young couples sitting together eating cakes and enjoying each other's company. Only one person seemed depressed in the happy atmosphere. Mint moved around like a ghost, her head hanging and lifelessly handing out food and drink without even looking at the person she was serving. Zakuro crossed her arms and pursed her lips in thought. Something is wrong, she thought. Deciding it was time for a one-on-one girl talk, Zakuro strode across the café and, taking Mint's arm, pulled her into the changing rooms before Mint could protest.

"Zakuro, what's wrong?" Mint asked in confusion.

"Nothing is wrong with me but there's defiantly something wrong with you." Zakuro answered shortly. Mint looked away.

"There isn't anything wrong with me." Mint answered but Zakuro could tell she was lying.

"That's total bull and you know it." Mint jumped and blinked in surprise wondering if she had heard right. Zakuro never swore. "Mint, problems don't go away if you wallow in them without letting people help you out."

"Zakuro this is none of your business ok?" Mint went to storm past Zakuro but the older girl grabbed her arm to stop her.

"I thought I was like an older sister to you Mint, don't sisters tell each other their problems when they're feeling down?" Zakuro's voice was gentle and Mint's shoulders dropped. Zakuro released Mint's arm confident that she wasn't going to try and run away again.

"Big sister…" Mint trailed off.

"Yes Mint?" Zakuro prompted gently.

"I just…I just feel left out, that's all." Mint sighed and looked away. Zakuro led Mint over to the benches and sat her down before sitting next to her.

"What do you feel left out of?" Zakuro had a feeling she already knew the answer but she wanted to hear Mint say it.

"I don't want to sound bitter but, you have Akasaka, Ichigo has Kishu, they're even engaged now, Lettuce has Pai and even Pudding has Taruto. Yet I have no one." Mint twisted her apron in her hands. It was just as Zakuro had expected.

"Mint, just because you don't have a boyfriend doesn't mean you're not still a part of the group. There's no reason to feel left out." Zakuro laid a hand on Mint's shoulder and Mint sighed.

"I know that but in the evenings everyone goes out with their boyfriend and I'm left sitting at home alone. I'm glad for you, really I am, but I just wish I had someone who cared about me." Mint trailed off and Zakuro could see that the younger girl was close to tears.

"How about you and me go out tonight since it's a Friday?" Zakuro offered and Mint looked up in surprise. "I know this really nice place that allows sixteen year olds in as it doesn't sell alcohol, it has really good music and loads of people your age. Maybe we'll find someone for you there?" Mint stared at Zakuro for a moment before throwing her arms around Zakuro's neck making the older girl gasp in surprise.

"Thank you so much, sister."

"You are welcome little sister. Now I believe there are customers out there waiting to eat." Zakuro grinned at Mint who nodded and stood up, smoothing down her dress before marching out of the room in a very Mint-like manner. "Now that's much better," Zakuro said to herself as she also stood and followed Mint back out into the café. She headed to the kitchen to tell Keiichiro that she had plans for that night.

Kishu was almost bouncing on his way to Ichigo's house. He had been side tracked by Taruto as he left his room and as such was late for his meeting with Ichigo to discuss baby names. He was already thinking of an apology that would work best. Maybe I should kiss her? That usually works, Kishu chuckled to himself. He would be flying but Pai had warned him and Taruto that if they wanted to integrate into human society they should start now, which meant no teleporting or flying.

When Ichigo's house came into view Kishu sped up and walked straight in. Ichigo had told him just to come in as it was quite an effort for her to get up and down these days. "Ichigo, it's me, are you here?" Kishu pushed open the door and stepped inside. His sharp ears heard the sound of Ichigo's breathing but she didn't answer him. Kishu panicked wondering if something bad had happened, and rushed into the living room. He found Ichigo sitting on the sofa with her knees drawn up against her belly and her arms wrapped around her legs. She looked so small and dejected. "Ichigo, are you ok?" Kishu dropped to his knees in front of Ichigo and she gave a start as if woken from a deep sleep.

"Kishu, is that you?" Ichigo looked up and Kishu could see that she'd been crying.

"Yes it's me my love. Are you alright? Is the baby alright?" Kishu laid a hand on Ichigo's tummy.

"I'm ok Kishu," Ichigo sat up straight and wiped her eyes. Kishu moved to sit next to her and took her hand in his gently.

"Ichigo, what happened?" Kishu asked softly and Ichigo glanced at him her lips trembling. She averted her gaze but Kishu gently turned her head to face him. "Tell me what happened." Kishu gathered Ichigo in his arms and she buried her face into his chest. Ichigo took a deep breath and told Kishu everything, about how Masaya had visited her before and again today, what he said to her and what she said in return. Kishu stayed silent as Ichigo talked and gently rubbed her back with his hand.

"Kishu I was so happy about our baby but now I, I almost wish I wasn't having one." Ichigo hiccupped. Kishu took Ichigo's face in his hands and looked her in the eye.

"Ichigo, this baby is the best thing that's ever happened to me in my life. I know you feel the same too. This is the life that we created through our love for each other. Nothing created by love can be anything other than a miracle." Kishu kissed Ichigo on the cheek and she smiled.

"You're right of course," Ichigo wiped away her tears, "this is our baby created by our love. The stupid hormones are making me emotional." Ichigo laughed softly as her baby moved and kicked inside her.

"Why didn't you tell me that Masaya was back?" Kishu asked gently laying his hand on Ichigo's stomach and smiling as his son kicked again.

"I didn't want you to go after him and beat him up or something." Ichigo narrowed her eyes at Kishu. "You're not going to are you?"

"I'm thinking about it." Kishu answered honestly.

"He's upset and hurting Kishu." Ichigo defended Masaya gently. "Please leave him be, for me." Kishu sighed and nodded. "Thank you," Ichigo kissed Kishu gently. "Now I believe you are here to discuss baby names. Our son will be here in six weeks."

"That soon, how time flies." Kishu bent down to press a kiss to Ichigo's belly.

"I was born three weeks early so there's always a chance he'll come early too." Ichigo smiled as Kishu stared at her in panic.

"How did you survive?"

"Oh Kishu, three weeks is nothing these days. I was just a little small that's all. I went home within a few days of being born."

"Human medicine is really impressive." Kishu said in wonder.

"So do you have any ideas for a name yet?" Ichigo steered the conversation back on track.

"How about you go first?"

"OK," Ichigo paused to think for a moment," what about Kasai? It means fire in Japanese."

"It would be fitting if he had your red hair," Kishu smiled as he ran his fingers through Ichigo's hair.

"Your turn now," Ichigo shifted so she was facing Kishu with her legs crossed underneath her.

"What do you think of the name Daichi?" Kishu suggested but Ichigo shook her head.

"No I don't really like that one. What about Tei which means air?"

"I think that's more of a girl's name than a boy's. Maybe something short like Zuro?"

"That sounds like an anime character." Ichigo shook her head.

"What about Naruto?"

"Too weird," Ichigo answered.

"Damian," Kishu suggested but Ichigo sighed heavily.

"There's something missing."

"What do you mean?" Kishu asked with a frown.

"I don't know but something keeps coming to me then slips away before I can grasp it. But I know it would be the perfect name for our son."

"What about Kei, that means strong. That would be a good name for a boy." Kishu offered but Ichigo shook her head. "Does Daisuke sound any good?" Ichigo shook her head again and Kishu's shoulders slumped. "This naming thing is harder than I thought. It's going to take a miracle for us to think of something."

"That's it!" Ichigo shot up as if she'd been electrocuted making Kishu jump. "Kishu, do you remember you said that our baby was a miracle?" Kishu nodded still looking unsure as to where Ichigo was going with this. "Kiseki means miracle, it was the name I was thinking of but couldn't grasp. I think we should call him Kiseki."

"Kiseki, I like that name too. He's our little miracle," Kishu laughed as he placed a hand on Ichigo's stomach and felt his son kick. "He likes it too." Ichigo covered Kishu's hand with her own and entwined their fingers.

"Kiseki," they said together and started laughing.

:-:

Kishu left Ichigo's house late that evening. After deciding a name Ichigo had called all her friends to give them the news. Pai and Taruto had been at the café with the mews and had demanded to talk to Kishu, so he ended up stuck on the phone for hours. Then Sakura came home with the shopping. While Kishu helped Ichigo's mother with the bags Ichigo told her their name choice. Sakura had felt the name was very fitting and hugged them both hard. His rib's still hurt from Sakura's painful squeeze. As Shintaro wasn't coming home till late Kishu had made his excuses and left to avoid any confrontation. Although Shintaro seemed to be tolerating his presence, Kishu didn't want to cause any tension.

The sun was sinking behind the horizon casting black shadows and the street lamps were flicking on casting warm pools of orange light. Kishu stuffed his hands in his pockets and walked down the path through the park enjoying the night air before teleporting home. He hadn't gone far when he sensed he was being followed. His neck prickled and Kishu tensed up. Whipping around Kishu narrowed his eyes and gazed into the darkness. "I can see you, stop hiding and come out and face me." Kishu glared as a shadow detached from behind a tree and stepped into a pool of light. "What the hell do you want scum bag?"

"That's rich coming from you, alien." Masaya sneered.

"You made Ichigo cry which makes you the worst of the worst. How could you say those things to her?" Kishu tensed as he felt Masaya's powers start to build.

"You're the one lying to her and confusing her mind with tricks and magic. Why else would she have left me for something like you?"

"Something," Kishu echoed in disdain, "this something happens to be twice the man you'll ever be. I'm going to be a father, I'm going to marry Ichigo and you're not going to stop me." Kishu reached out and his swords appeared in his hands.

"In your lowly pathetic dreams, alien scum." Masaya transformed into the Blue Knight and raised his sword to the attack position. The two circled each other, eyes narrowed, as they waited for the other to make the first move. Masaya leaped forward suddenly and Kishu crossed his knives to block the attack. Their weapons met in a ringing clash of steal and sparks flew. Masaya snarled and pushed Kishu back while Kishu twisted to the side and leaped out of range. Masaya spun around to keep Kishu in his sights and charged again. Kishu jumped straight up into the air and swiped at Masaya's head. Masaya ducked, twisted and lashed out to cut Kishu's left leg.

"Oww, damn you Masaya!" Kishu hissed glancing at the spread of blood over his leg. "These jeans were brand new!"

"You won't need them once you're dead!" Masaya smirked and jumped into the air to slash at Kishu again. Everything seemed to fade into the background as the two males lunged and parried attacks. Sparks flew into the sky and the air rippled with the sound of clashing steal. A full force attack from Masaya caused the two to fly backwards from each other. Sweat was pouring down Kishu's forehead and dripping into his eyes. He took a few precious seconds to wipe it away. At least Masaya seemed just as exhausted as he did. The Blue Knight's chest was rising and falling rapidly. "You're not doing badly alien, but even your best isn't good enough to beat me!"

"I've had enough of this. Ichigo, please forgive me." Kishu tightened his grip on his swords and crossed them. Blue light gathered in the centre of the swords and grew outwards as Kishu gathered his powers to him. Masaya leapt forward to try and attack Kishu before the spell was complete but Kishu was faster. The light blew outward in the shape of a ball from Kishu's swords and struck Masaya in the chest sending him flying backwards. Masaya crashed into a tree trunk and lay sprawled on the cold grass trying to catch his breath. Kishu stood still, panting heavily, as he watched Masaya struggle to rise.

"You haven't won yet," Masaya spat out a mouth full of blood.

"Face it Masaya, I've won this battle and the war. Ichigo is carrying my baby not yours and she's going to marry me. If you loved her at all you would leave her alone and give her a chance to be happy." Kishu glared at Masaya who glared right back.

"How could she possibly be happy when you have her under a love spell?" Masaya shouted at Kishu. Kishu blinked in confusion and frowned at Masaya.

"What are you talking about? What love spell?"

"Don't take the innocent act with me!" Masaya laughed. "I know you made a love potion and made her drink it. You most likely forced her but your twisted drug made her think she consented."

"I have no idea what you're going on about Masaya." Kishu answered and it was Masaya's turn to look confused. "I have no idea how to make a love potion and I doubt such a thing even exists."

"You're lying! I was told –" Masaya cut himself off and Kishu's frown deepened.

"What were you told? Who told you this nonsense?" Kishu stepped closer. Suddenly a ball of energy flew out of sky and hit Kishu square between the shoulder blades. Kishu didn't even have time to cry out before he was catapulted forwards and cracked his head against a tree. Kishu groaned once before he slumped, unconscious, to the ground.

"Who is there?" Masaya struggled to his feet and jerked backwards when Nikki appeared in front of him.

"What the hell are you playing at?" Nikki hissed in anger. "Have you forgotten the plan already?"

"Your plan is stupid. Why should I have to wait fifteen years when I can kill Kishu now?" Masaya started towards Kishu's slumped body but Nikki grabbed his arm.

"The mews are on their way so we've got to go!"

"I never pegged you for a gutless coward Nikki." Masaya smirked then he flinched as Nikki's golden eyes glowed in anger.

"Don't you ever call me a coward ever again, do you understand me? I have a flawless plan and if you mess it up I will get rid of you. I know my plan requires time and patience but that is the whole point. Time makes people peaceful, complacent and forgetful. And while they relax and laugh we'll be building our army, getting stronger and waiting for our chance to strike." Nikki tightened her grip on Masaya's arm until it was painful. "But now we have to leave." Nikki teleported the two of them away just as Zakuro and the other mews ran around the corner in their mew gear.

"Look its Kishu!" Pudding pointed to Kishu's motionless body. Zakuro ran over in panic and pressed her fingers to his neck in search of a pulse.

"He's alive," Zakuro breathed in relief.

"Who could have done this to Kishu?" Mint glanced around with narrowed eyes. "As much as I dislike the guy he's a good fighter. Anyone who can kick his ass presents a threat to us." Lettuce shivered and took Pudding's hand.

"And where did that person go?" Lettuce added as the wind moaned through the trees in the empty park.

"There isn't anything we can do about it right now. We're not far from Ichigo's house so let's take Kishu there and call Pai to meet us." Zakuro and Lettuce picked up Kishu to carry him back to Ichigo's house while Mint and Pudding followed keeping an eye out.

:-:

"I can't see why you were so afraid of the mews. They're not much of a threat in all honesty." Masaya grumbled as Nikki tended to his wounds.

"I'm not afraid of them," Nikki replied darkly as she poked Masaya's wound to make him yelp. "If they know I'm here it will cause problems. They would come looking for me and attempt to defeat me. They would also let their new allies know about me and it's vital they know nothing." Masaya frowned but said nothing and turned to look out of his bedroom window.

"Kishu defeated me," Masaya said after a moment.

"I noticed," Nikki replied with barely supressed humour.

"I thought your training was supposed the make me stronger! So far I haven't seen many results!" Masaya snapped.

"Your training has only just started." Nikki sat back and glanced at her handy work. She stood up and flicked her hair back over her shoulder. "If you had waited until I told you to go after Kishu then you would have defeated him easily."

"You've already said I told you so." Masaya growled.

"It never hurts to say it twice." Nikki smirked. "Don't worry human, I will make you the most powerful person on the planet. You'll be powerful enough to defeat Kishu without breaking a sweat, and take back what was stolen from you."
