Chapter 14: Goldenrod Rumble! Part 3
At the Goldenrod gym a fierce tag battle had been taking place between our Water and grass duo, Rain and Lilly, and Whitney and her shadow loving assistant, Damien. Lilly's oddly named battle combo lead to the discovery of a new move, Lunar Beam. Despite this, Leafeon and Vaporeon were able to take down his Umbreon. Miltank is the only one left and Whitney isn't going down without a fight as the three pokemon's attacks collided. Only moments later, Miltank, and Vaporeon fly into walls on the opposite ends of the battlefield. Leafeon is the only one who wasn't sent through the air.
"Woah." From the stands, Janic says enjoying the battle with the gang. "I can't believe Leafeon is still standing." Blaze rolls her eyes before tapping Janic on the shoulder, he turns his head.
"Look at Leafeon's feet." She says and he notices that Leafeon's paws are in the ground. "To put it simply, Leafeon used Ingrain a mere second before the collision." Janic looks confused.
"I didn't hear Lilly say anything." Blaze shakes her head.
"She didn't have to, Leafeon knew what to do and did it." Janic nods as they turn their attention back to the battlefield as Miltank has stood back up. The Ref sees Rain returning Vaporeon.
"I see I didn't have to say anything." Rain nods.
"Lilly, it looks like its up to you, sorry." Lilly gives the thumbs up.
"I will not lose this battle." Rain smiles at that though she knows Leafeon can no longer move due to rooting herself into the ground with Ingrain. Whitney looks happy as well as the Sunny Day wears off.
"I can't wait to see how you little lady get yourself out of this one, Miltank its Milk Drink time!" Miltank begins to drink some of its own milk to heal as everyone looks weird out by how it can bend its head down to drink from its own udders. Damien, and Parker even look weird out.
"No matter how many times we see it, we can't get used to it." Parker says to everyone in the stand. Ash nods.
"Yeah even my Miltank doesn't drink her own milk like that." Ash comments while Lilly's eyes fill with confidence.
"Its time for this flower to bloom." The battlers look ready to carry on the fight. Zero looks around and notices that his brother, Zane, and Theo have disappeared so he goes over to Ash.
"Did you see where my brother or Zane or Theo went?" Ash glances around also noticing there aren't here anymore.
"Sorry, Zero. I don't know but I'm sure they'll be back." Zero smiles as he goes back to where he was sitting as they all turn their attention back to the battle.
A couple streets away from the Gym happens to be the Johto Battle Arcade, a place of amusement and challenge worth conquering as Silver, Zane, Theo walk though the doors, they gather attention rather quickly.
"OMG its Black Flame Zane!" Some girls squeal than faint just merely looking at Zane. Theo gets some attention too though Silver has everyone keeping their distance. Zane looks at Silver.
"I guess it not a bad thing to be in your company, Psychic Destroyer." Silver doesn't respond to Zane's comment as he gets his pokedex scanned for the registration he challenge of the Battle Frontier and not just to play a bunch of arcade games. The attendant nods.
"You are all clear Sir, and I must say, you have defeated so many of the Faculties, are you sure you aren't a Frontier yourself?" Silver shakes his head.
"Don't worry, I'm not one and that is mostly because I don't think the world is ready for the unbeatable Frontier Brain." Silver snickers a little as the attendant looks over at Zane and Theo.
"Gentlemen, if you would, please put your pokedexs on here to verify eligibility and to complete registration if eligible." Zane and Theo do as instructed and three seconds later, the attendant smiles.
"Thank you both, please head to the elevator with the attendant wearing the green uniform, she will gladly care for your valuables while you are battling today." They walk over to the attendant and give her their bags and the three pokemon they wouldn't be using. They get on the elevator. Theo lets out a yawn.
"Something tells me, we have to go through these formalities because we aren't the only ones challenging the Arcade Star today." Silver quickly nods.
"For the sake of time, they are five other trainers down there and Zane has battled one of them quite recently. Also I know a few of them." Zane raises an eyebrow.
"Really? The only people I've battle lately was Team Rocket, your brother, you, and…hmm…" They all begin to laugh.
"I don't think we will be disappointed." Theo says before the elevator doors open to a dark room with a DDR panel floor. Silver steps on one of them and the whole floor lights up, revealing the five other trainers. One of them is Alexandria, the water type expert from the Cosplay Tournament in Azalea Town, unlike before she is dressed in relatively normal white sundress with a blue ribbon tied around her waist and a grey one tied in her hair. She sees Zane makes his way over with Silver and Theo so she moves cooler to mister black leather jacket.
"Interesting company you keep, Black Flame." Zane shrugs.
"Hello Alexandria, its nice to see you again though I wasn't expecting to meet so soon." He says.
"Why aren't you calling me by my title? And from they way you said that, it sounds as if you didn't want to see me again." He smirks.
"I don't think you have lived up to your title just yet…" He than pats her on the shoulder. "Also I'm glad to see you." He spoke softly in her ear, which made her blush as she forgot to make a rebuttal for what he said first. Only a few feet away, Silver and a girl with royal purple hair dressed like an Japanese high school student are just looking at one another. Theo seems out of place.
"Um, Silver do you know her?" A brief moment of silence occurs after Theo asked the question and it is ended by the girl falling on her butt.
"You have improved, though you are still far from mastering your powers." Silver speaks. Theo begins to feel a little left out as the girl gets up.
"I am humbled that you have praised me, Psychic Destroyer."
"Not a problem, Psyche, The Man Breaker." She gets a little annoyed at the title Silver said as Theo looks shocked.
"Wait. I thought her title was the Mind Breaker?" She looks at Theo.
"Nope, I really am called the Man Breaker." She than takes a breath upon realizing who she was talking to. "You're Thea's twin brother, I believe a proper introduction is in order. I am Psyche, and I am an expert in the use of Psychic pokemon…I also have psychic powers." Silver snickers.
"Which she uses to bend men over." Psyche's cheeks pucker out of frustration. Theo nods.
"I see, I am Theo, and I happen to be an expert in the use of both Psychic and Fairy type Pokemon." He says.
"I guess we both known each other before actually meeting one another." She says and he nods.
"Yeah and I must say, you aren't anything like the rumors say you are." She rolls her eyes.
"Don't get me started on those rumors, the dag' media keeps portraying me as some man manipulating succubus on the hunt for good looking boys to use and abuse."
"It is the truth." Silver chimes in. Psyche has a huge blush on her face. Theo begins to chuckle.
"Somebody is embarrassed." Psyche hits Theo in the arm and Silver laughs.
"You should have opened your mouth, she had every right to hit you." Silver said. The floor light's color changed to a neon green as Dahila struts her way into the room. She looks around at everyone.
"Eight of you huh? You boys and girls do realize that not all of you will be able to challenge me, I'm not some gym leaders. As a Frontier Brain, you must be more than just skilled pokemon trainer, and here in the Battle Arcade…you got to get your game on!" She points as a monitor drops down from the ceiling. Silver rolls his eyes as he has just foreseen what is about to come.
'Adaptability is being tested with these games first and foremost…and as we play this games we'll be matched up with opponents for tedious battles that give her an excuse to examine us and to weed out the crowd. Cleaver yet bothersome…' Silver thinks as the panels on the floor get arrows on them. Psyche looks over at Silver.
'I seriously wish I was able to read his mind, he probably got a clearer image of what is about to happen than I did…I still wonder how his psychic powers are so immense at his age, its inconceivable.' Psyche gets a flustered look on her face before music begins to play. Dahila smiles.
"I love this track." The monitor starts to show the dance steps and which spots need to touched. Everyone begins to move for the first minute, it is smooth sailing. But than, the tempo of song speeds up and images on the monitor move faster as well. Zane begins to notice something off as he sees he isn't in the same spot he started and suddenly the music stops. Dahila turns around to see the eight trainers are standing in pairs. Zane and a Roughneck looking dude are match up one, Psyche and Theo are match up two, Silver and so Geeky looking dude is match up three, and finally Alexandria is matched up with some chick in a purple business suit and is carrying around a handbag that is styled to look like a book.
'Darn it, I wanted to battle Black Flame and not…wait a minute, blonde woman in a business suit with one of those Le Book Handbag…Margery The Witch.' Alexandria readies for a battle as all of the pairs disappear. Dahila stands there alone.
'Psyche the Man Breaker, Psychic Destroyer Silver, Black Flame Zane, Empathic Knight Theo, The Witch Margery, Alexandria The Extinguisher…so many talented young trainers all here at once. I'll have a battle on my hands with anyone of them.' Dahila thinks as she takes a look at the monitor which has different feeds from each of the battlefields, each field is based off Arcade games.
Silver and his geeky foe are in the middle of a cliché Mortal Kombat stage, Silver has a smirk.
"Fatality, what a wonderful word it is. I'll show you how wonderful it can be." Silver says as his Zoroark appears, not using its Illusion ability. His foe sends out a Magnezone.
Over in a Pacman battlefield, it is decked out with all of the neat little touches, even the ghosts and power ups are around. Psyche sighs.
"I wonder how this will affect the battle." Theo gets a glint of confidence in his eye.
'Pacman always needed to dodge the ghost so he wouldn't lose lives…maybe if our pokemon touch the ghost they take damage…I hope my hunch is right.' His Shiny Kirlia appears and it is met by her Espeon.
Zane and his opponent's pokemon seem to be in a classic boxing game. Zane's Machoke delivers a mean Dynamic Punch to the Gut of the Roughneck's Conkeldur.
"Sorry but I got to much pride in my skills as a trainer so don't expect me to lose this battle." Zane declares as his Machoke dodges the powerful Stone Edge attack of Conkelldur.
Last but certainly not least, in a cryptic graveyard, Alexandria and her Marill are repealing hordes of zombies and Magery's Spiritomb's Willow Wisp and Shadow Balls.
"Hydro Pump!" Marill unleashes a blast of water five times her size out of her mouth and Spiritomb was able to dodge but Magery was soaked. She gets a nasty look on her face.
"Do I look like some Wicket Witch? Its going to take more than just water to stop my spell binding Pokemon!" With those words, Spiritomb disappeared and Alexandria grinds her teeth.
'If that amount won't work, I'll just have to drown you until you vanish.' Alexandria says to herself as simulated moans fill the air. Dahila watches all of them battle, and she still has a happy look on her face.
Back at the gym, Lilly and Rain are jumping with joy for Miltank has finally went down. Whitney looks happy as well.
"Congratulations girls. I'll have your Plain Badges in a second." Whitney leaves the room as Damien heads back to the battlefield and offers his hand for a shake.
"It was a good battle, I could have done better." He says as Lilly shakes his hand.
"It was fun, and if you want a rematch, we should be around for a couple days." He shakes his head.
"I should be able to find you guys very easy." He than offers his hand to Rain, she shakes hands with him.
"Well Demon, I look forward to a one on one match."
"Please stop calling me Demon. If you want to give me a nickname, call me Nightshade or something like that." Damien says with slight aggravation in voice. Whitney comes back with the badges in hand.
"Here girls, your badges." She hands Lilly and Rain their badges. Lilly jumps for joy again.
"Thank you!" Rain bows humbly.
"I thank you for the battle." Whitney gives them a thumbs up.
"It seems like you girls enjoyed the battle and I can see you both developing into fierce trainers in the future." She says as the girls put away their badges. "And with that, I am done battling for the day." Whitney says as the gang gather around Lilly and Rain. Parker walks up to Whitney.
"Ma'am, would it be alright if I had a battle in here before we close up?" He asks and she pats him on the head.
"I don't mind and I'll even referee for you." Parker looks at Janic.
"Hey Janic, didn't you say something about wanting to battle me earlier?" Janic nods though he still doesn't seem fully like himself.
"Yeah, I remember asking if you want to." Parker pulls out a poke ball.
"You and me, in this gym, right now." Upon him saying that, Lilly's mind twists that her face gets a naughty look on her face. Rain face palms as she makes water splash on Lilly.
"I swear I better not have make a hobbit of this." Lilly sighs.
"I wasn't going to say anything I swear." Suddenly Parker raises a finger.
"That is a lie you were going to make a comment that would have twisted the meaning of what I had said to Janic and also what is wrong with you?!"
"Excuse me!" Lilly and Parker begin glaring each other down as Ash and Misty walk over to Janic.
"I don't think you are getting that battle, Janice." Misty says as Ash sighs.
"His name is Janic, not Janice dear." Janic looks gloomy again as Parker and Lilly are restrained by Rain and Damien.
Back over at the Battle Arcade, Silver and Zane have finished their first battles and they are once again dancing to the DDR game as they wait for either Psyche, Theo, Alexandria, or Margery to appear. Silver is laughing.
"What is wrong Zane? You don't want to battle me again." Zane shakes his head.
"Its not that, I'm waiting to see if she beats that Witch." Silver continues to laugh.
"The Irony of this is that Margery really is a Witch, she happens to be a Maiden." Zane has a stunned look on his face.
"Wait how old is she?" Zane asks.
"She happens to be twenty." Alexandria appears saying as Silver nods while Zane tries to hides his joy.
"Good Job defeating the witch, I don't think she would have wanted to tango with me." Silver says. Alexandria uses the next few seconds to move herself near Zane by following the dance steps. The music pauses and Dahila appears on the monitor.
"Sorry for the interruption, I have some good news and bad news…Bad News, Theo and Psyche's battle has just ended in a tie thanks to a good old Destiny Bond." The three of them don't look bugged by the bad news. Dahila holds up a timer and a remote switch. "This is the good news, you three will still be able to earn a chance to a battle me, the game is simple, find me in the Arcade with one hour time limit…and you can battle each other while trying to find me." Silver looks up at the monitor more intently.
"So I'm guessing that switch is my Mother's Nullifier Prototype?" Dahila nods.
"Yep, I have several different experimental devices being tested here, why else would I have built a larger Battle Arcade?" Silver has that I know I'm a bad ass look on his face.
"Hmm…you wanted a larger playground that the one you have in Sinnoh so you used your influence and your unused wealth to bring more tourist to the tourism trap of Johto and now you get to play around with anyone who wants to prove themselves in the Battle Frontier especially since this Dimension Simulator Prototype is the best one yet and I must say money well spent, now enough games and let us battle properly." Dahila shakes her head.
"Enough games you say? Look where you are. This an arcade, there are never enough games!" She flips the switch and suddenly they appear to be back in the lobby and Zane doesn't seem alright.
"Are you okay?" Alexandria asks as Zane shakes his head.
"I feel like my fire has been suffocated." Silver turns around.
"Nullification, you're unnatural powers will not be at full strength so its nature for you to feel like that." Zane rolls his eyes.
"Great…So is this thing affecting you too?" Silver walks way without answering Zane. 'I'm going to take that as a he is never going to tell me the truth.' Zane scratches his head as Alexandria twiddles her fingers.
"I guess this means we are alone now."
"So?" Zane asks bluntly, she blushes.
"Um…do you think you would ever go out with a girl like me?" Zane grabs his chin and looks at her.
"Its possible." Alexandria's face glows at those words. "If this girl like you is able to prove their self."
"Huh?!" She began to grind her teeth. "If it's a battle you want, than it's a battle you get!" Her Marill bursts out and growls as Machoke pops out of Zane's poke ball. "Again with no using a fire type! This is getting annoying!" Is the last thing she said before the two pokemon growl.
"Marill use Play Rough with Body Slam!" Marill charges at Machoke belly first as he has a Cross Chop ready to intercept the small blue pokemon.
A couple floors up inside of an office, Dahila sits with her Blaziken, Empoleon, and Liepard waiting around a desk as Silver burst through the door. She begins to clap her hands.
"Three minutes and thirty two seconds, that is amazingly fast. This must mean your powers can't be nullified below a certain level than." Silver shakes his head.
"I must thank you for giving me some relief from hearing all of the thoughts of people around here, I usually just block them out." Silver says so coy. Dahila stands up.
"I'm glad I can help. Now shall we head somewhere a little more roomy for out battle?" Silver shrugs.
"Whatever you want since we are no longer on the floor where you have that dimension simulator." He follows the frontier brain and her pokemon to a battle field.
"So when did you realize that I left that floor?"
"The moment you first showed yourself, I foresaw what was going to happen up until now." Dahila stops.
"Okay that means you weren't able to see who wins our battle." Silver smirks as they enter a room which is to be the site of their battle. Several Monitors are aligned around the room.
"I don't need to see the future to know who is going to win." Dahila and her pokemon look eager to prove Silver wrong. Silver's Zoroark growls out of excitement. "Lets begin." Dahila nods with her Liepard, who jumps onto the battlefield to be Zoroark's first opponent.
"You got it, Liepard use Fake Out!" Liepard pounces at Zoroark but the moment it makes contact, Zoroark fades away. "What the heck?" Dahila says as Zoroark eerily reappears behind Liepard and smacks it against the room.
"I can't blame you for looking shocked. You know how Zoroark's ability is Illusion, I trained my Zoroark to be able to use its Illusion in ways that most trainers would never be able to get one to do." Silver explains.
"Basically you are saying that your Zoroark could launch an attack from one place but me and my pokemon will not see where it is truly coming from." Silver nods. Zoroark readies to attack as Liepard stands still as it tries to gage were Zoroark is. "Liepard use Sucker Punch and Feint Attack together when the opportunity is available to you!"
"Zoroark use Fury Swipes with Slash and Night Slash!" Silver commands as Liepard and Zoroark's attacks began to collide with one another. The sparks fly from the two dark types.
"Not bad Silver but an Illusion still is only an Illusion, your trickery will not get you far with me." Silver doesn't respond as the real Zoroark appears behind Liepard and delivers a Brick Break that forces it to the ground. "But how?!" The Zoroark who was using the going toe to toe with Liepard vanishes. Silver has a look of confidence in his eyes.
"I told you, these are no ordinary illusions." Zoroark backs away from Liepard who gets up.
"Time for Rapid Fire Shadow Ball!" Dahila commands and Shadow Balls roar out of Liepard's mouth. They explode on impact causing both trainers to lose site of their pokemon. A moment later, the smoke clears and Zoroark stands over a KO'd Liepard. Dahila returns Liepard to its poke ball.
"I should have listened to you. I will not make that mistake again, Blaziken use Flare Blitzing High Jump Kick!" Upon Dahila's command, Blaziken lungs onto the battlefield, its body completely veiled in blue flames as it charges foot first at Zoroark. A huge blast of flames knocks into Zoroark and blows around to where it almost could have made contact with Silver though he looks unfazed while his Zoroark smirks.
"Night Daze!" Zoroark casts a deluge of dark energy from its arms that bursts out into a dome, Blaziken is caught up in the attack due to the speed of delivery. Dahila's hair is blown all around from the force of the Night Daze. Blaziken is still on its feet but it slightly pants. Silver and Zoroark begin to glare blankly at Dahila, she gets a little unnerved by this.
'How is his Zoroark this fierce? I heard he was dangerous but I would have never thought that he would be like this!' Zoroark sends Blaziken flying to the wall and Blaziken uses the wall as a spring board to attempt to strike back with a Fire Punch. Zoroark blocks with one Shadow Claw and slashes Blaziken down with the other claw. "Return Blaziken." Dahila returns the defeated Blaziken and her Empoleon walks out onto the battlefield to be Zoroark's final foe. "Empoleon use Aqua Jet, Metal Claw and Drill Peck together!" Dahila tries to fight back with one heck of a combo that has Empoleon encased in a spinning geyser of water. Zoroark dodges it with ease as Silver snaps his fingers.
"I think I'll stop using the Illusions, Zoroark use Brick Break with Quick Attack!" Zoroark's arms glow and than the two pokemon begin to clash and collide over and over. Each hit creates a loud thumb. Dahila sees that Empoleon is starting to slow down as is Zoroark.
'Its now slowing down, his Zoroark has unusually high stamina and it can take a hit.' Empoleon and Zoroark pause their attacks. "Hydro Pump!"
"Night Daze!" Empoleon spits out a deluge of water at Zoroark as it launches a blast of dark energy stop the water. Each side isn't giving an inch as the ground beneath the pokemon begins to break and they sink a bit.
"Change to Hydro Cannon!" Silver smirks as the water glows and becomes like a fire hose's stream.
"Mirror Coat!" Night Daze disappears as Zoroark's body becomes reflective and the Hydro Cannon hits than is bounced back at Empoleon even stronger. It was unable to avoid it as it gets send into the wall and falls to the ground. Silver pulls out three yellow rock looking things.
"Thank you for the battle, Zoroark hasn't been this close to defeat in a long time." Zoroark is panting violently before Silver returns him. Dahila sighs.
"I really wasn't expecting such raw power from only one of your pokemon." She says as he has made his way over.
"Most are surprised like you are, here are some Max Revives for your pokemon." He gives her the Max Revives.
"Thank you for them, and if you would please follow me again, I'll give you the Frontier Symbol and the Certificate Print as prove of defeating me."
"Alright, there is something else I want to talk to you about?" They begin to head to the elevator.
Back in the lobby of the Arcade, Theo and Psyche are sitting with each other's backs to another.
"Why can't I get you to do what I want?" Psyche says.
"Because I'm not some desperate guy hoping to get in your pants so you can't manipulate me." Psyche grinds her teeth.
"Lucky you're an empath who knows how to control his emotions." Psyche sighs after saying that. Theo stands up.
"My sister is still stronger than I am when it comes to being an empath." Psyche nods.
"Yeah, she does know how to use emotions to her advantage." She sighs again. "I really don't get why we got mad at each other in the first place."
"Because we let the adrenaline get to us and how the battle ended didn't help matters any." Theo gives his opinion. Psyche nods.
"You sounded like your sister just now. No wonder you are twins, both of you are intelligent and good looking." Theo modestly nods.
"I guess so." Theo scratches his head as Zane and Alexandria walk out of the Elevator, holding hands. Theo looks a bit shocked.
"Oh come on, you come here to battle and leave with a girl on your arm." Alexandria giggles.
"Looks like somebody is jealous that he can't make his foes fall for him." Theo holds his finger up before quickly coming over to Zane and Alexandria.
"When your opponent is called The Man Breaker, I won't complain if I don't have her on my arm." Theo whispers but Psyche still heard him and tosses her shoe at his head.
"Jerk!" Theo can feel how enraged he just made Psyche and when she retrieves her shoe, she smacks him again before leaving. Zane chuckles.
"It seem that you have your own way with the ladies." Theo glares at Zane.
"That isn't funny. We already had a conflict before you guys sounded up, now I have to figure out what I can do to apologize cause I know I said something I should have waited to say when Silver was around." Zane pats Theo on the shoulder.
"I'm sure we will see her again." Alexandria nods.
"Yeah, she is a popular trainer like you guys and she has won a few contests in Sinnoh's Contest Season though she wasn't able to get into the Sinnoh Grand Festival." Alexandria says as Zane nods.
'She is a psychic like Silver…well not on his level still more people appearing with abilities that are far from natural…what is going on?' As he thought that Silver appears.
"I have defeated the Arcade Star and had my fill of battling for a while, so you three can do what ever you want, I'm going to find us a hotel to stay at." He says that before disappearing again. Theo shakes his head.
"I have a feeling that he'll be finding a hotel for most of us so he can have personal space." Zane shrugs.
"Who knows. Lets go enjoy the casino while we are here." Alexandria gives the thumbs up.
"Sure, anything but Craps, I don't know how to play that yet." Theo laughs.
"Is that because of the name is so close to crap?" She nods and they all share a laugh as they head into Casino area of the Arcade.
Okay, this Rumble is really going good and who enjoyed Silver vs. Dahila? I did… Anyway, you know how there are always new questions needing to be asked and they are: What did Silver had to talk to Dahila about on the way to get his reward for beating her? How will Lilly react to Zane not being the 'single' hunk she adores? Did Janic and Parker have their battle? Why did I decide to bring in Poke-Witches into the Story? That one is easy to answer, my editor asked me if I could work them in and he reminded me of what they could do so I said what the heck, I'm putting them in.
