"It was in my dreams." She repeated, "I don't know how it got there but it was there anyways." She rubbed her arms and leaned on the door, back facing the cold hard wood.
Loki turned his back against her and rubbed his temples as if stressed, then turned back to her, "How did it look like?" he asked.
She sighed, "I was in a really dark place, no light, just pitch black, then it appeared." She fidgeted but Loki nodded, signalling her to continue, she sighed again.
"It didn't have a face, it had these misty wings and it emitted this cold feeling. It had a hood too which made it a lot creepier. It spoke about sickness, pestilence, and me joining him and facing the consequences if I refused to." she remembered her parents faces, failed to be merged together.
She didn't look at Loki who was looking at her intently, she knew he understood her, but he asked her coldly, "Can you elaborate the part about you joining him?"
She looked up this time, "It's a he?" he nodded, "Wait, you know a lot about this guy?" she asked, curiosity coating her voice.
He was about to nod again but shook his head sadly, "He is although, a historical creature in Asgardian history."
Tenma always liked learning about history, even as she grew older, "Tell me about it." She said with a small hint of excitement.
Loki took a deep breath, "There was a war before, when Odin used to go to battle and rule at the same time." he spat at the mere mention of the god's name, but continued, "Odin fought him, the figure you met in your dreams, Pesta, and Pesta lost. But the battle ended with thousands of death, even affecting Midgard and that was when Odin made a deal with him that if he won't attack the Aesirs ever again, he would not mind him, even if he tries to take over other worlds. Odin now, refuses to help Midgard because he is scared, scared he will be blamed for the hundreds of deaths again, scared because he is now old and weak he could not stop Pesta. He calls Earth's Mightiest heroes powerful enough as a sore excuse for him not to enter battle."
Loki spoke the history with a voice of half hatred and half enthusiasm, proud of his knowledge and at the same time hating to speak his adoptive father's name.
"Now, tell me about the part where he asked you to join him." He asked Tenma who was still deep in thought about the short history lesson she just received.
She bit her lip, she walked to the bed and flopped over it, "Do I have to?" She asked in a serious tone despite her position.
Loki sat on the bed, turning his head to Tenma who was lying on it, face down on the mattress.
"Yes, it is necessary." He smiled a bit at her current state and as she groaned, she rolled over, face up, then rolled back, face down.
"He told me to join him because I was special." She said in a muffled voice, but Loki understood.
She rolled back up, and closed her eyes, she didn't want to tell him what she exactly saw.
"He told me I was destined not to die at that moment because I thought I was dead, after that he told me I should join him, something like I was destined to…" she stopped and turned to Loki who was looking at her with expressionless eyes, she still knew though that he was taking in every word she said.
She let out a breathy laugh, "He used the word "destiny" a lot."
Loki scooted closer to her, she looked at him and rose back up into sitting position, "I don't believe that was all you saw." He told her.
She chuckled, "Yeah, it wasn't…" How could she lie to the God of Lies himself?
"He, well, he told me if I do not join him, and I eventually will meet him, there will be consequences." She breathed in as she remembered her parent's faces again, they had the sad look of despair, wanting to moan but couldn't because of their deformity.
"What consequences?" he asked seriously and scooted a bit closer, but he was still about half an arm length away.
She looked at him, top to bottom, "Dude." She said, "Why are you coming closer to me?"
"I'm interested." He merely said, dropping his gaze.
She continued, "He told me to look underneath his hood, at first there was nothing, no face, just darkness. I then said to him that there was nothing that I could see. He then pulled his hood of and then… Well…" it seemed grotesque and awkward to say.
"Well?" Loki asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Well, it was a horrifying view of my parent's faces, tried to be merged together, like a failed experiment." She breathed in, and sighed, she was used to violence, no biggy.
Loki looked at her, "I don't know what to say." He said with only a hint of emotion in his voice.
She chuckled, "It's okay, silvertongue got rusty?" she mocked, he chuckled as well.
"So, is that all" he asked her, "Yep." She said.
He nodded, "Your case is special, many humans back then used to plagued as well by Pesta but he never showed himself in his true form to them, instead, he made them have the most horrifying, realistic, gruesome nightmares by using past experiences and loved ones then twisting them in their mind as they slept. This caused some humans to never wake up, experiencing death in their sleep."
Her brows furrowed then looked at him, "Guess that means I'm special… Oh wait, I am." she smiled.
He laughed quietly "Yes, yes you are." She laughed as well, "I'm a special little mortal." She said sarcastically.
"Right again." He said to her, she smiled.
They held their gaze for a while, until Tenma lunged onto Loki and hugged him.
"We should really stop ending our private conversations like this." He said but awkwardly put his arms around her as well.
"Nah." She said, still hugging him, "You don't seem to mind."
He laughed breathily, "I do, in fact, I mind a lot."
"You're just, always listening and I never expected you to." She sighed, still hugging him, she didn't know why, but she didn't want to let go.
He broke from the hug and held her shoulders and looked at her straight in the eyes, "I listen because you stayed and entertained me, I am merely returning the favour."
Inside, she felt kind off hurt, but took it as a compliment, she smirked, "I'll take that as a compliment, because I think that's the best I can get out of you."
"How many times are you right in a day again?" he sarcastically asked.
"Always." She replied.
"You just broke your streak." He arched an eyebrow, she laughed, he was right, she was actually never right about 60% of the day.
Suddenly, a very drunk Tony burst into the room. What a way to ruin a moment.
"Tony! Don't interrupt them! They might be doing the "it"!" They both heard Steve call from out of the room.
"Whatever! I'm joining them!" Tony shouted back, for some reason, he was wearing sunglasses.
Tony turned to them, a bottle in his hand, he tilted his glasses down with one finger, "You guys ain't doin' the "it"!" he said in an unusually high voice.
"You're drunk, Stark." Loki said, back to his bored, un- expressive voice, obviously annoyed at Tony's sudden entrance.
"And we are not, doing the "it"." Tenma said, she was slightly blushing at the thought.
Steve ran inside the room and tried to grapple Tony out, then he turned to them as well.
"You're not doing the "it"?" he asked politely, tilting his head a bit in confusion.
"No!" they both answered at the same time, Tenma though, was blushing a bit harder.
"I'm sure they were ABOUT to do it!" Clint shouted from outside the room.
"Oh god Clint!" they heard Natasha asked in a slightly slurry voice, obviously drunk, "Don't disturb them! Unless you want to do what they were about to do…" she flirtatiously said, Clint blushed and gulped.
Loki snorted and stood up, shoving Steve and Tony who were wrestling by the door.
Tenma just watched him walk out, her brows furrowed. Why did he walk out on her as if nothing happened? They were the closest of friends at first and now as if they never even met and he just seemed to forget why he was with her and left.
"Closest of friends…" she thought to herself and snorted, then did a smirk. She had to admit, she thought of him as a friend, a really close one and yes, she also had to admit that she care-
She stopped, then frowned. No, she won't care for him, just as he said, he was just returning the favour.
"You! Why are you sulking!" a drunk Tony barged into the room again, successfully losing himself from Steve's grasp.
Tenma stood up, "I am not." Then straightened her shirt.
Tony broke into a grin, "You thinkin' about Reindeergames." And gulped down another bottled, straight from the spout.
She couldn't help but smile a bit, "Oh shut up Stark, you're drunk." She jokingly shoved him aside to exit the room.
Tony watched her leave, gulping down again from his bottle, he chuckled, "Whaddya' think Capsicle?" he asked Steve, who gave up on wrestling Tony, seeing he wasn't being much of an annoyance.
"About what?" Steve asked, going to Tony's side.
"Them." He pointed out to Tenma who was approaching Loki by the mini bar and started chatting with him and pouring drinks in shot glasses.
Steve smiled, "They are both stubborn."
"True." He offered the bottle he drank from to Steve who politely waved his hand at the offer.
"It's kind of… cute." Steve stated shyly.
"Prince of Darkness and Rogue Chick? I mean, Tenma, yeah, but Prince of Darkness? Really?" Tony asked in a less drunk manner.
Steve smiled, "Come on Anthony, you have to agree."
"Hmm… I'm gonna ask Clint and Natasha." He turned on his heel until Steve stopped him.
"N-no don't go to them!" he said with a slight blush.
"Why?" Tony said, jerking Steve's hand away which was holding his shoulder.
Steve bit his lip, "They're doing the "it"." He said through clenched teeth.
Tony broke into a grin, he knew just what to do. He sprinted through the hall to the elevator to Natasha's room, because that's where he knew she would lead him.
*Meanwhile on the Stark minibar not very far away from the shocked Steve Rogers*
Tenma poured herself some more alcohol and gulped it down lazily, slamming the shot glass on the table.
"These are pretty strong stuff." She said hiccupping, "Why aren't you drunk?" she slurred as she turned to Loki who was calmly sipping his what it seemed to be 17th shot and was trying to avoid Thor's flailing arm from his storytelling to the surprisingly, interested Bruce.
Loki sipped again before answering, "I'm a god remember? Or has our friendship pushed that thought away?
Tenma's eyebrows furrowed, "Just a minute ago and you were nice, hugging me even. When Tony came barging in, you became grumpy again and left me as if nothing just happened! Is there something wrong and that you're not telling me?" she asked in a slightly intimidating tone although she slurred at the end.
Loki looked at her as he sipped his 18th shot, "You initiated the hug which I should've avoided."
"You didn't mind the last time!"
"I swore to myself it would be the first and the last." He retorted, raising his voice.
"Why? Because I'm a mortal and I'm not allowed to make physical contact to you because you're a god?!" she asked with a tone of sarcasm and slight anger.
He glared at her, she glared back, both drinking their shots in one gulp, competing on who will be the first one to speak.
Loki won, "The hug was sudden, we're barely friends and just a step over the stage of being acquaintances, I despise mortals and that disgust still bears in me. You think of us as the closest of friends but we are not, our friendship was brought about by these circumstances. Do not take me as someone you fully know and understand." He said sternly and quickly, light green eyes glared into dark hazel eyes and back.
Tenma glared at him, lip twitching, she wanted to say something but something at the back of her mind she shouldn't. She frowned and her eyes lost the perky energy, "You said I was special, special for a mortal."
Loki sighed, not drinking from his shot and turned back to her, "You are." He said uncharacteristically.
"You're lying." She said, "You're the God of Lies, you're bound to lie to a mortal like me." She spat.
"I lie when I need too, I use the skill at the right time." He said, as if not noticing her angered state.
She quickly drank from her shot glass, "And in the room, after you knew my true identity, wasn't that just the right time for you to lie?" she narrowed her eyes and tilted her head closer to him, emphasising her sarcasm and un satisfaction.
She quickly tilted back to her seat and drank another shot, she slammed it down on the table so hard that the shot glass cracked. She stepped off her seat angrily and stormed off to the room she and Loki were just in and slammed the door.
Loki's face was scrunched up into an angry scowl. He slid his shot glass to the other side of the bar and stomped away angrily but was pulled back by Thor.
"Brother, unlucky in love again?" Thor asked with a small grin on his face which Loki wanted to smack off.
Loki didn't look at Thor as he spoke, "I should've never have acquainted her, I'm already even starting to think that she is just like the others, just like any idiotic mortal." He spoke with anger in his voice.
Thor pouted, "Brother, you shouldn't talk about your lady like that!"
Loki inhaled deeply, and narrowed his eyes at Thor, "I am not your brother and she is not my lady."
He swatted of Thor's hand from his shoulder and brisk walked to the room he and Tenma stayed in on the first day they came to the Stark Tower.
Thor stood there, watching Loki slam the door. Thor didn't know what to say but he knew deep inside that Loki cared for her, he never showed these feelings to any of the women back in Asgard when he left them or they left him.
Instead, Thor smiled and shook his head, he walked back to Bruce who was sitting patiently on a stool and has also happened to watch the whole scene unfold.
"What happened?" he asked Thor who sighed as he sat down beside him.
"Nothing to worry about Banner, just Loki being slightly less unlucky in love." He smiled but Bruce just tilted his head in confusion.
"That's not what I saw." Bruce said as he pushed his glasses back up.
"You do not know Loki, this is actually an improvement!" Thor beamed, he still truly loved his 'brother' despite all he has done.
"I can't imagine worse." Bruce bit his lip and made a hissing sound before he drank his cup of chamomile tea.
Thor chuckled, "No need to worry about my brother, he gets a bit moody sometimes when he feels disregarded, either as a friend or as a lover."
Bruce put down his cup, "So, Loki had lovers back in Asgard?"
Thor beamed at the topic, "Quite, but not as much as mine." He gave a laugh before he continued, "Loki never really was serious, just like all Asgardian men. Loki knew though that the women were never serious as well, so, he played with them as they played with him."
Bruce put on a face of disgust, he couldn't imagine Loki with a bunch of women wearing skimpy clothing, hoping Thor didn't mean to make him think that way, he sipped his tea again.
Thor yawned and stretched, he finished his large bottle of beer in one gulp and slammed it on the table, making Bruce's tea plate wobble.
"Friend Bruce, I guess it is time for rest. I shall bid you a pleasant evening." Thor was about to walk away but Bruce called him, making him turn around.
"Do you think Loki will be okay tomorrow? He might get grumpy and…. Well… You know, we need him in his normal mood…." Bruce sheepishly asked, trying not to sound caring.
Thor beamed again, "Not to worry Banner, Loki is a strong man, no woman can weaken his heart or mind."
Bruce smiled back, even though Loki was their enemy, well, used to be, he had a slight touch of regard for him, as a team mate or an ally, it has been one of Bruce's greatest points, adaptation to ones surroundings and people.
Loki is just being a grumpy dude and maybe Tenma is going under her period (who knows, not me)
