Oddly enough, Emmett met up with me as I was leaving my last class.
"Nikki!"
I turned around with a raised eyebrow. "Oh, hey Emmett. I figured you'd be with your girlfriend."
He shrugged. "She's talking to Alice about girl things. I got bored."
I didn't believe him but, I was just ready to leave so, I didn't question it. "Oh okay then." I muttered as I grabbed things from my locker.
Emmett leaned against the locker beside me. He seemed to be looking out for something or someone.
I soon heard someone stop behind me and Emmett tensed up beside me. Feeling confused, I turned around to find out it was the douche from the last time I was at school. The one who wouldn't just go away when told to.
"So, you have a body guard now?" He asked with a scowl. "What? Can't protect yourself?"
I rolled my eyes as Emmett moved closer to me. "You just don't understand what fuck off means, do you?"
Then I realized that Emmett knew this was going to happen. How? I don't know, maybe because of his mind reading brother or his future seeing sister. But, that is why he was with me right now. He must have known that I can't really protect myself with how my body temperature is. I was actually glad of that. Last thing I wanted was to have to move again. I would miss the people here, surprisingly.
Emmett grabbed the guys shoulder with a glare. "Leave now, Trevor."
Trevor scoffed before storming off.
A sigh of relief escaped my lips. "You knew he was going to do that and that's why you're here right now."
A small smile crossed his lips. "I'm just helping a friend out. Last thing I wanted was you having to leave Forks."
"Yeah, that would suck. Although," I started. "It would be nice to see the sunlight again."
Emmett rolled his eyes. "You would miss me too much."
I scoffed. "No, you'd miss me too much. It would be way too boring here without me."
He threw an arm around my shoulders with a loud laugh as we walked outside. "Of course it would be boring without you around!"
I noticed Paul looking at Emmett and me with a scowl. So, I moved from underneath Emmett's arm. "Thanks again for helping me out."
Emmett grinned when he noticed Paul. "Is the mutt jealous?"
A smirk grew on my lips. "And just why would he be jealous of you?"
He sent me a look that made my smirk grow. "I mean, look at me! You have to admit, I'm hot as hell."
"Oh really? I hadn't noticed." I laughed slightly as I walked away.
Paul and I were planning on going to hang out on the beach. But, a call from Samira changed that. The Guardians were at the house and they were looking for me. It couldn't be good but, I wouldn't tell Paul that.
We soon pulled into the drive way and a sigh escaped my lips. "I'll see you later, Paul."
A hand gripped my wrist, "I'm not letting you go in there alone."
I raised an eyebrow. "I won't be alone, Paul. My brothers are in there too."
He shook his head. "I'm going in there with you."
I finally gave in. "Fine⦠just don't say anything."
We both went inside, Paul acting overprotective. I haven't done anything wrong, so I don't know why they want to see me. Possibly for what happened with Vinnie and Elaine.
As we entered the dining room, there sat and stood six professionally dressed elementals.
"Ah, Nikkole, you've arrived." The Guardian known as Helen (an air elemental) noted, and then her eyes shifted over to Paul. "And you've brought another supernatural friend."
I rolled my eyes and the short woman that tried much too hard to be intimating. "He insisted to come."
Nicolai (the fire elemental) sighed loudly. "I am not trying to stay here longer than necessary, Helen. Let's just get to the damn point."
"For once, I agree with him." Jasmine, the water elemental, muttered.
A friendly smile came from Tyler, the last of the group and the earth elemental. "Take a seat, Nikkole."
I nodded; keeping my mouth shut and sat down. Paul stood behind me. "Can I ask what this is about?"
"It's about that family dispute." Helen told me while only looking at me, almost accusing me of starting it.
I couldn't stop myself from speaking. "Why are you all looking at me like I caused this? I didn't! Elaine was doing this behind all of our backs. As far as I knew, Vinnie was long gone and finally got it through his thick skull that he needed to leave me, us alone."
"So, what you're saying, Nikkole is that Elaine and Vinnie came after you?" Jasmine asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes! That's exactly what it was. Why do you always want to point the finger at me?" My temperature was rising by the minute and I was like a ticking time bomb.
"Because, whenever trouble happens, it's somehow connected to you." Nicolai hissed through his teeth.
I couldn't take it anymore; I quickly stood up while knocking over my chair in the process. "Are you fucking serious?"
"Nikkole, show them your respect!" Samira yelled.
"No! Out of all the guardians, I thought you would understand! I've gone all this time, keeping my temper under control the best I can. I've never let anyone that isn't supernatural have contact with my skin. I have never told a human about us! And all it takes is some crazy ex to come after me, again, for you to come after me?"
