14. Sleeping beauty in the thorns of lies.

Slowly I open my eyes but because I was blinded by the light I closed them once more.

Then I heard some voices from outside the room I was in, which after I confirmed to be my room, say: - So, Nishida-sensei*, how is Lucinda today?

"Mom?" I thought as I tried to open my eyes again, this time I succeeded.

- She's like all the other days, your Majesty - answered another voice.

"Is that Nishida-sensei?" I wondered as I sat up. "What does he mean by 'like all the other days'? What's going on?"

- Prince Shade explained to us that he saw Princess Lucinda use her magic and that's why she's in that state.

- I told her many times to not use her magic but like always she's so stubborn.

"Who do you think I got my stubbornness from?" I thought as I glared at the door, hoping to be actually glaring at my mother.

- I shall be going now, your Majesty.

- Yes and thanks for coming Nishida-sensei.

- Not to worry, your Majesty, I will come tomorrow and if the princess wakes up please feel free to call me whenever.

Feeling still sleepy I decided to lie down and get more sleep.

A couple of hours later.

"What time is it?" I wondered while I searched for my phone.

I found it on the nightstand, grabbed it and looked at the time.

15:02 p.m.

When I was about to open it to see what day it was, I heard voices from outside my room.

- Your Majesty... - said the person.

"Shade!?"

- Ah! Prince Shade, welcome back. I'm sure you're here to see Lucinda, but unfortunately she's still sleeping - answered my mother.

- Uhm... I see.. - he said, sounding down.

- But don't worry I'm sure she's going to wake up soon.

- Your Majesty, may I ask a question?

- You can call me Serenity.

"So it isa family trait to want to be called by the first name.."

- Serenity-sama...?

- Yes, what did you want to ask?

- Ah, yes... I wanted to ask: 'why did Lucinda faint after using her magic?'

- That's because... Her body is weak and it can't sustain the stress of using magic.

- Does she know this?!

- She's been aware of this fact since she was little.

- Then why did she use her magic to help me? Even if she knew it would affect her.

- We don't know but you must be someone special if she used it to help you - replied a new voice.

"Is that Dad?" I thought looking at the door.

- Can I see her? - Shade asked.

"Oh no! What should I do?! Ah! I will pretend to be sleeping.." I thought as I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep.

The sound of the door opening and closing, I heard it very clearly even with my loud heartbeat resounding in my ears.

Footsteps and then I felt a weight on my bed. He had sat on my bed!

Then he did something unexpected, and I had to use all my will power to not open my eyes or let that shiver ran down my spine.

He had caressed my cheek with the palm of his hand.

- Just like the sleeping beauty... The only difference is that she probably won't wake up if I kissed her - he mumbled.

- Shade? - I called trying to get his attention, I couldn't pretend to be sleeping with him there.

He didn't respond.

- Shade - I called once again, louder this time.

- Lucinda? - he asked snapping out of his trance.

- Who else? - I teased.

- Good evening.

- How many days have I been asleep? - I asked as I sat up, forgetting what he said a minute ago.

- 2 weeks.

- WHAT? NANI? COSA? ¿QUÉ? - I shouted.

I just shouted 'what' in four languages. Wow, I'm quite awesome.

SBUM

Was the door just opened or was it blown up?

- I heard a scream and I knew for certain that it was Lucinda - explained Lucia entering my room.

- Lucia, stop joking, but in a certain sense you are right - agreed Rose with small chuckle.

- You heard that? Even Rose is saying that I am right.

- Stop making fun of me, the both of you! - I retorted, offended.

- Okay, okay - they chorused.

"They don't sound convincing at all.." I thought giving them a glare.

- LUCINDA-NECHAN! - shouted Endy running inside the room.

- Endy! Come here - I said as I opened my arms.

- Nechan! - he shouted before jumping in my arms.

"He got a little heavier... Must be the sweets for breakfast.." I concluded, hugging him tightly.

- Lucinda.. You seem to be as health as a fish! - remarked my mother entering the room.

- I wouldn't say a fish but I am in a quiet good shape.

- That's good to hear - commented my father from the door.

- Well, we will be going now so that you can change in peace - said Lucia pushing everyone out of my room.

- Wai.. - I started but was interrupted by her.

- Don't worry, we will bring Prince Shade to the tea room so that you can finish talking.

"Why do people always know what I want to say or ask?" I wondered as I watched my sister drag Shade out of the room.

- It's because your face is easy to read! - she shouted before closing the door behind her.

I stared at the door for a couple of minutes with a dumbfounded expression before I brushed off the thought that I was too easy to read and started getting ready.

While brushing my hair, I noticed a vase of red roses sitting neatly in one of the night stands.

"Who could have sent it?" I thought as I looked over it, later then finding a note signed: "From Neo-Queen Mars and King Jadeite".

"I must remember to tell Shade to thank them" I thought as I finished dressing.

I was wearing a milky-colored high collar shirt with a squared skirt, black long stockings and brown boots. I let my hair down since it was too troublesome to tie them in the usual pigtails.

"The palace's corridors sure are wide and long but luckily I always have a map with me.." I thought as I walked down a corridor, occasionally reading the map in my hand.

Finally I arrived in front of the tea room.

I open the door and looked around for Shade. Spotted him near a crystal table with two tea cups and a plate with a couple of pastries.

- Sorry I made you wait - I said as I walked towards him.

- It's nothing - he answered as he helped me sit down and then sat himself.

"He's such a nice guy!" I squealed like a fan-girl inwardly but remained the same outside.

- How are you feeling? - he asked as he helped himself with some strawberry cream puffs.

- A lot better now - I answered as I munched on one of those cream puffs.

- So... I heard from your mother about your health problems and the effect magic does to you.

"That's only half of the story.." I thought bitterly, looking down for a second.

- That's true...

- Then why did you use your magic even thought you knew it would affect YOUR life? - he shouted with anger, abruptly standing up.

- I did it for... My revenge.. - I replied, looking away.

- Lucinda, I've known you for a short period of time but I know that you're lying... But even though I know I still don't understand why you're lying about something this important.

- I'm really sorry Shade but... I can't tell you why I used my magic powers..

"Because it's easy to understand... I did in order to protect you.." was what I wanted to say but I couldn't find the courage in me to say it.

- I see, I understand... I understand that you don't trust me enough to tell me about the reason that made you use your magic... - he said and he started to walk away.

- Where.. are you going? - I asked as I too stood up.

- I'm going home.. - he answered without stopping as he continued to walk to the door.

- Wait, Shade! - I shouted.

He stopped but didn't turn around.

I sighed relieved, he stopped, and asked: - What was the thing that you wanted to say at the party?

- ... It doesn't matter anymore - he responded with a cold and distant tone.

"He... hates me?" I thought shocked, something beginning to crack inside of me.

The sound of the door opening and closing, I didn't hear it even with the silence of the empty room.

I walked to the door and pressed my back against it, sobbing while doing so. He was gone.

- Why…am I… such…an idiot? - I sobbed.

"I feel like an idiot… I probably am one.." I thought sarcastically.

Suddenly I felt a rush of determination and stood up saying: - No more crying! I will go to him and tell him the truth!

I was about to open the door when I sensed the use of magic.

"Shade?" I thought, immediately opening the door.

There was the faint trace of a light column right in front of the door.

- He already went… But I can always pay him a little visit - I said out loud, smiling.
